Oh why am I such a glutton for punishment? I was on my lunch break and decided I was craving pho so I decided to give this place another try. Despite multiple attempts to eat here since my first review back in 2013, I continue to get horrible service here with sub-par food. Where do I start? My lunch took over an hour. They are grossly short-staffed and the staff that is working is slow and inefficient. On top of that, they are not very friendly or helpful. This staff really needs some training. We just came here for the first time because a lot of other places are closed for January 1 and had an incredible Pho craving!!! We are extremely impressed and don't quite get the reviews on yelp. 5i Pho would make me assume this establishment's claim to fame was their pho. This is absolutely not the case. This is my 2nd time ordering from them - the first time was to go and this time is delivery. I received my order in a reasonable amount of time, but food quality is terrible. I unfortunately picked up a cold/flu so decided to order Tom yum soup and pho. The pho had no flavor in the broth or noodles. Very bland and the soup wasn't hot. For the price, I would rather order from Pho Show and pay their $6 service charge just to get real tasting oho. The tom yum soup again had no flavor or heat. I requested hot and spicy but what I got was a bland tub of chicken broth with some chili oil. Will not be back or recommending this restaurant to others. Their grilled chicken salad is so delicious; it's crunchy and unique with different herbs and flavors than other places with good salads. It combines savory and an opposing flavor that's not sweet, like salads with fruit but is perfect. My kids love the pho. This restaurant really is a hidden gem, unassuming on the outside with great culinary talent inside. read more

A steaming hot bowl of "Meh" The Phò soup is brown, murky, and tastes weird. The beef is tough, and the tripe is crunchy. Seating area is bland and spartan. Servers are average. Vietnamese basil is brown......won't be returning. I'm not offended enough to blast the place or not tip, but there's SO MUCH other restaurants do right that this place doesn't bother to do. It'd be easy to drive (or even walk) by and completely overlook this small restaurant in a small strip mall at the corner of Sawtelle and Sepulveda. Parking is free. We had no problem finding a spot in front. * Salt 'n Pepper Tofu (Dau Hu Rang Muoi) $5 - I'm usually a fan of this spicy appetizer with Jalapenos and Onions, but the small bits of tofu were tough. I think I like rappers Salt n Pepa more. (2 stars) * Shrimp Spring Rolls (Gui Cuon Tom) $4.50 - Rice Paper rolls are classic Vietnamese starters stuffed with Lettuce, Bean Sprouts, and Shrimp. One order was 4 halves to share. (3 stars) * Har Gow (Shrimp Dumplings) $3.50 - These are served Dim Sum-style with 4 on a plate; however, the manager/owner made sure to tell us that these weren't there usual Har Gow, so, I'll give him a pass because these were pretty weak (2 stars) * Sui Mai (Shrimp and Pork Dumplings $3.50 - Four other Dim Sum-style dumplings were better (and apparently homemade). Served warm, these didn't last long on the table. (4 stars) * Pho Tai (Rare Steak Pho) $7 - I got a thing for Pho. I like it. I like it a lot. The fact 5i sells Pho and is convenient to my work means, I might become a regular. The noodles were fine and the broth a tad light, but it'll do. I also liked that they gave lots of Jalapeno slices, Vietnamese Mint, and Bean Sprouts (3 stars) * Dry Tom Yum Rice Noodles $8.50 - Our server recommended this dish of thin Vermicelli with Chicken, Onions, Eggs, and Jalapeno stir fried with Tom Yum Sauce. It probably could of used a bit more Yum Sauce; however, it was fine. I liked the spiciness. (3 stars) * Hoi Sin Fried Rice $8.50 - Shrimp, Imitation Crab, Fish, and Fish Eggs Fried Rice was the other suggestion from the waiter and this one was better. Decent Vietnamese for the West Side! Listen, people who expect to find pho like Westmini, SGV or Gardena, that is NEVER gonna happen. NEVER. There's not enough competition and the westside/southbay is lucky to even have any pho since these areas are mostly populated by non-asian people who think California rolls are authentic Japanese food. (I obviously live in the South Bay with these peepz and love it, I'm just keepin' it real.) In any case, this place is pretty good! As a Vietnamese person who eats a ton of Vietnamese food, this place is pretty decent and way better than Pho Show down the street. Pho Show is often missing some of the staple vietnamese accompanying sides, has super small/overpriced servings, and always has super slow service. One time I had to send my damn pho back cause it was not hot enough and my tai was not cooking (it was like grey from being in luke warm water.) Anyway, the food: Got the pho ga and goi cuon (beef). Beef was well seasoned, peanut sauce was good and came with the mandatory pickled veggies. Pho was decent and not over salty. I tried the Taiwanese noodles that people were raving about and those were okay...nothing super spectacular. Overall, the food I've tried here is good, the service is GREAT, they DELIVER and they are OPEN LATE (til 11). Driving by the old strip mall setting, I might never have tried the food, but we received a nice-looking menu at our Culver City home so we gave them a try. We placed an order and picked up. The wait on a Sunday evening was only 20 minutes and the food was ready a minute after my husband arrived. He said the restaurant was full, so they are doing something right. The beef spring rolls were very good, 2 for $4.50, with a plum or hoisin sauce. Steamed BBQ buns are sinfully carby. Next time my hubby wants 2 orders of these. 3 buns for $4. Now they are not like homemade by someone who knows, but to a couple of Irish people, they seem darn good. Lastly we had Singapore Noodle with chicken. The chicken was white meat, tender, and nice pieces like if you made it yourself. No mystery twisted rubbery bits. And enough pieces too. The noodles are extremely thin (glass noodles maybe?) and we got "very spicy" which was totally tolerable, not too hot. $8.50 I believe. There were 4 tables of customers including us: one table was obviously our waitress's family because she sat down with them and ignored the customers. So, so so dreadful. The service was non-existent and truly sad. The busboy literally looked like a boy/teenager and appeared sullen and sad. He looked miserable and acted like he wanted to be anywhere but here. Our server was not any better. She also looked pretty pathetic, barely cracked a smile and never asked about how we liked our food, or if we needed refills on our drinks. The food matched the service. I had pad thai with "chicken". The chicken didn't taste or look like real chicken. It seemed to be processed. I sliced it with my fork and couldn't see the strips of meat. It was mush. It tasted funny as well. None of my family would eat it. My daughter had the won ton soup and it had a horrible aftertaste - I think it was some Chinese all spice. It seemed like everyone else in the restaurant was eating pho so maybe this is what we should have had. Rating: 40/100 pts I've tried this place a couple times, but somehow always end up feeling that the quality of the food falls short of the prices. It's not terrible, but there are so many other restaurants that are cheaper, better, and more focused. I usually come in craving Vietnamese, and have tried both their dry vermicelli noodles and their pho. Here's the bad: the noodles have a cheap texture that lacks the resistant texture of authentic rice noodles. The last time I came I got the Pho Bo Spicy (brisket + rare beef + chili oil, which was being touted as the daily special). The meat was thin and scant, and the rare beef wasn't so tender (it was hard to distinguish it from the brisket). The broth lacked the depth that more authentic pho brings; although there was some kick from the chili oil, I undoubtedly felt some lingering wateriness. Prices have been raised slightly from their original menu printouts, so when eating in you end up paying around $10 for food that is slightly below par. Watching the video they've uploaded brings me to the good: it's clear that they pride themselves on having a diverse range of Southeast Asian dishes to choose from (Dim Sum, Singaporean, Indonesian, in addition to Vietnamese); although I find this admirable, it is far more common for places whose efforts are divided to underwhelm and lack that authentic charm than those committed to a specific cuisine, and unfortunately I'd say 5i Indochine is a prime example of this. read more

If you have never been down to Westminster then you would find this great but unfortunately, west side pho pales by comparison. One unusual thing though is that the chinese food here is great! Came in here earlier today for some lunch. We were in a group of 4 people and ordered 3 bowls of pho along with more than half a dozen items off the appetizer menu. First thing we noticed upon placing our orders was that that waitress simply listened as we shot out our orders. She had no pen nor paper to write everything down, but used her impeccable memory to relay the order to the cook. It was highly impressive to say the least. We received our food in a timely manner and were satisfied by the quality and presentation. I have to say that the food was definitely not 5-star quality, but was indeed decent and more around the 3-4-star quality range. I wouldn't ever give this place a 1-star review because the food was decent, portions are satisfactory, and the service was great (almost like you're eating in a family-member's home). This is my go-to pho place on the westside (there needs to be more Vietnamese food where I live by the way). I get the regular size rare steak pho with buckwheat noodles ($7.25 + $2.00 for the buckwheat noodles). Their broth tastes great and the Asian girl who works there (probably the manager) is always really sweet! I've had other servers here that weren't all there in the head but I haven't had any real issues with customer service here. It's a good idea to take cash there if you're eating alone because the minimum charge for credit cards is $10.00. My work orders food from their website through Eat24 all the time (their minimum delivery order is $25.00). I've been ordering the # 151 which is the Charbroiled Chicken Bun ($7.00) and I am in looooveeeee!! It has vermicelli noodles, charbroiled chicken, fresh veggies (bean sprouts and lettuce), ground peanuts and topped with a delicious fish sauce which isn't overwhelmingly fishy. My boyfriend ordered a large combo pho, and I ordered a small. His large was almost $9, and looked pretty much like my small in a larger bowl. He didn't even have any tripe in his. We ask how long the wait will be and such, and the person had absolutely no idea. There was not a waiting list or anything. The lady just said, "maybe at least 20 minutes." After she said that, a bunch of tables finished and all the people waiting got tables. We shortly got one too, so the estimated wait time was far off. It was better than waiting for a long time though. :) We didn't get an actual restaurant menu, just a to-go menu to order our food. We ordered: Vege egg rolls- there were six 3" egg rolls, but there was pork in it. If we were vegetarian, that'd be a problem, but whatever. We didn't realize it a bit later, and we were deciding which egg rolls to get anyways. They were salty. BBQ Pork Buns - meh. They were decent. Lacking in flavor, but okay enough to satisfy cravings. Shiu Mai - very inconsistent and dry. They weren't horrible, but the consistency was different for each of the 4. Some didn't have visible shrimp. The pork was super dry. Har Gow (shrimp dumplings) - one was broken, but that didn't really affect the taste. They were decent, but on the dry side. Good enough to satisfy cravings. Vegetable Singapore noodles - we got the veggie one instead of the regular one because the bf is allergic to shrimp, and the vegetable one is a dollar cheaper. They aren't the best I've had, but it had a good mix of curried noodles (though not that flavorful), veggies (lil bok choy, broccoli, water chestnut, mushrooms), egg, and fried tofu. The order we received the food: shiu mai, Singapore noodles, har gow, egg rolls, BBQ pork buns. No water refills; we had to request everything. Might as well have the iPad ordering system here. I came here with great trepidation, because as someone who grew up in San Gabriel, I expect more out of pho than others. And just like everyone else, I've been waiting for the day that good pho comes to the Westside. And let me say something. This is legitimately good Pho. Not "good enough" for being nearby, but it is legitimately good. And yes, if there is a pho place West of La Cienega, I've tried it. This is the best one. My whole experience visiting here was a good one. The inside of the store was much cleaner and nicer than I expected for being in a dirty little strip mall, and pho places in general aren't the cleanest. I ordered a large Pho to go (the combo one with everything, number 101 on the menu), and the first thing I noticed was how good the broth smelled. As I get to my desk at work, I think, ah dangit I wish I had a bottle of sriracha and hoisin sauce to go with it. As I open the bag, what do i find inside but a packet of hot sauce and hoisin! (it wasn't sriracha, but still good). It's the little things like this that show restaurants that really care about the experience. Anyway, I can't wait to come back here and try the other dishes. Also, for those curious about price, my large combo pho came out to about 9 dollars after tax. Also, parking is plentiful. If you don't see any spots right in front there's a lot in the rear. After getting delivery from this place a couple times, I was curious and decided to check it out for myself. The interior space is boxy and plain. There's no room for privacy while you dine. I couldn't help but overhear someone else's conversation from across the room. Because of all the reviews I read, I decided to order pho. I have to say it's not bad! It has everything you'd want in a bowl of pho: the right taste of clear broth, well-cooked meat, chewy noodles, and the bean sprouts and seasoning. It didn't blow my mind away, but it was good. I also had the minced chicken lettuce cups. The first few bites were delicious (maybe because I was starving). The last few bites made my tongue feel like it was covered with salt. I've also tried other menu items through delivery. Their Singapore noodle dish is exactly what other reviewers raved about - amazing! Their chow mein is pretty good too. I was pleased to see that the rare steak was actually rare when it was brought out to me. However, the broth was ungodly hot (there was so much steam coming out of it I felt like it was like vapors coming from a bucket of dry ice) and a little plain. Nothing to write home about. TOM YUM RICE NOODLES (with CHICKEN)- Yummy. Up to this I didn't know if I had just lost my taste buds since everything had tasted a little plain, but one bite of this reassured me that I was probably okay. This is actually stir-fried but not too dry the way I've found rice noodle dishes elsewhere, with a nice bold lemongrass flavor and moist chicken. My husband said that a new Vietnamese place opened up close to home. As we were driving over, I was hoping, wishing that 5i would become our go-to dinner spot. Finally, so GOOD Vietnamese?! Wrong, we'll have to keep on waiting. First of all, the small bowl of pho is $7. A bit on the higher side of prices versus South Bay, SGV, or Westminster. That wouldn't be an issue if it tasted as good as those places. Sadly, my tendon was crunchy, the meat was scant, the noodles were scant, and my broth tasted very watered down. I didn't drink too much of the broth, but I did notice that I was extremely thirsty after my extremely small bowl of pho. Heavy handed on the MSG, perhaps? This would have been a 3 star place, but what really drove it down a star was the portion size for my husband's bun (vermicelli bowl). If you leave an Asian hole-in-the-wall still hungry, that's a problem. That's a fail. Seriously, the bowl was smaller than the typical bun/pho bowl that you have imagined in your head. You can pick up the entire clump of noodles with 1 scoop of the chopsticks! Actually, in that 1 scoop of the chopsticks, I managed to pick up most of his veggies as well. Lettuce is cheap - it adds volume and makes it look like more food than it actually is. This is one of the few times that when the bowl was presented, it looked like it needed more lettuce. I'm a fan of this place. They offer all kinds of things here from Vietnamese food to Chinese food. It's an easy way to get Dim Sum without going all the way to Gardena, Alhambra, or Chinatown. Or Vietnamese food without going to Westminster. The food here is pretty good, prices are okay, and service is good. It usually isn't too busy and there's a huge lot to park in. Came here for cold bland noodles. Customer service was not what it should have been. This place was poppin for being located inside a ghetto strip mall. Literally the stores on either side have bars on the windows. So was a little sceptical at first. Also, no one greeted me or sat me when I first walked in. There were only two female employees working the front so you could tell they were overwhelmed. The female employees were not that friendly, but at the end of my meal, a guy came out from the back who asked how everything was and was very nice. on to the food, I got shrimp pho, egg rolls, and a Singapore noodle to go. Aside from sometimes forgetting what i ordered and bringing some items VERY late. The food is great! The menu makes them a winner. Its huge and they have alot on it for everyone. This place is great for big picky groups. its vietnamese, chinese blah blah blah it has everything. Pho to fried rice and dim sum. Not the greatest quality but worth visiting. I decided to try this local place after getting their menu in the mail. The pictures looked really good, it's right down the street, & they serve dim sum! Score! I was disappointed that they didn't have the color menu with pictures in the restaurant that I had received in the mail. Like most people, I mostly choose the items that have good looking pictures, so it took a while for me to figure out which items I chose at home from the other menu. Here's what I tried: 1. Passion Ice Tea: Really good, but pricey considering no refills. 2. Salt & Pepper Tofu: Good portion, well seasoned, & I like the bite sized pieces. I wished there was more of the chopped onion & garlic topping/spread. 3. Sui Mai: Big pieces (4) & tasty, but nothing exciting. 4. Har Gow (4 pieces): I was excited to see they served dim sum, but I really disappointed with these. I could tell they had clearly been overcooked as soon as the server put the plate on the table. The fillings had come out of the wrappers, which were falling apart and oversteamed. The shrimp filling tasted meh, but it was tough from being overcooked. 5. Wonton soup: I was in a dim sum kind of mood, but I wanted to try their broth, so I ordered the Wonton soup. I really like their broth, but not the actual wontons. They were really small and had a much higher noodle to filling ratio. It also had pieces of chicken, shrimp, broccoli, & bok choy, so it was filling. 6. Pork Brown fried rice: I liked the brown rice option, but other than that, it wasn't very exciting. 7. Combo Chow Mein: Okay. Again, nothing exciting. I ended up taking home almost full cartons of the noodles & rice, but didn't bother with the almost half bowl of soup. The bill came out to about $38, but then again, we got A LOT of food. Overall, their extensive menu, attentive staff, & ample parking might persuade me to come back, but I wasn't amazed by the food. I like having another addition to the asian category in the westside, and it's better than some of the other stuff around here, but alas, I'll gladly travel eastbound for a more satisfied tummy. read more

I still remember coming here for the first time over two years ago when they first opened. After a recent visit I thought it was time for my review. 5i to me is a mix of good and bad. First off given their location I don't expect much in terms of Asian restaurants. The area is more akin to pizza and beer. That said the soups here are actually pretty good. Their pho while not spectacular is tasty. They also have a soup noodle special that I'd classify as a cross between beef stew and pho- tomato based broth. On the other hand, as good as the soups are at 5i rice and dry noodle dishes are not nearly as strong. In particular, a curry/singapore noodle stands out in my mind as particularly disappointing. All in all tho... for those of us who work nearby 5i is is the go-to place for Pho in the West La/Culver City/Playa Vista area. read more

This restaurant serves a variety of Asian dishes (Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Singaporean). The food tastes authentic and prices are decent though some dishes may be $1-2 more than what I usually pay. However, there's not many authentic Asian restaurants in Culver City so it's nice that they opened one. There's parking in their lot. 1. Walnut Shrimp- Good though I wished there were more walnuts. 2. Charbroiled Beef- Tender and tasty though there wasn't much. The cup-sized portion of rice was bigger than the meat. 3. Pho- Pretty good though I've had tastier broth. 4. Egg Rolls- Ok. I was excited to try them since they have taro in them, but they didn't taste much like anything. There were 6 of them so it was easy to share in our group. 5. Black Bean Fish- This probably one of my favorites. The fish was tasty and soft. Stir fried with some onion and green peppers. 6. Singapore Noodles- Thin dry noodles with chicken (and shrimp). Pretty good. 7. Pan friend noodles with beef- Both the noodles and beef were good. 8. Tried a few additional items on the menu. The broth for the Pho Bo Kho is REALLY good, but some of the pieces of beef that I had were a little tough. Their chicken wings are also very good, extra crispy and they come with jalapenos. I've also tried the steamed BBQ pork buns and they are really good also. The buns are soft and fresh. Thai iced tea also good. I usually see the same waitresses when I go and they are all so friendly and attentive. They check in to make sure everything is OK, and they've always gotten my order right, and the food has always gotten to me in a timely manner. read more

I've been here a few times, and every time I've walked out satisfied. I enjoy the food, the staff is accomodating, and the dishes are tasty. The reason I give it three stars is not because of anything 5i does wrong, but mostly because it isn't anything special. It delivers good, yet a little flavorless pho. The bun's are good, they give you generous portions of rice, though the appetizers can be hit or miss. The steamed veggies with tofu are deliciously healthy and fresh. My dad thought the fried chicken wings were extremely tasty. We also ordered rhe chicken bao, which while I appreciated the light fluffy texture of the flour coating, the meat on the inside was a little lackluster. My dad always orders the pho ga, and while decent the chicken is always a tad over done and chewy. I ordered the buckwheat Tom yum pho, which had a great flavor but lacked the noodle component. Tonight I got the 5i spicy shrimp with broccoli. And it was so delicious!!! Highly recommended. So in a nutshell, 5i is a good standard but, it's nothing wow tastic. I come here when I crave pho and don't feel like driving out to Cerritos. It satisfies, but doesn't blow your mind. Try it out! it won't be a bad experience. In fact, it will be a rather tasty meal, easy on your pocket book, and it has plenty of options to satisfy multiple palates. But don't expect to be mind blown.
