Im guessing 5i Pho have read the not so favorable reviews cause I had a pretty good experience. The service was fine. Friendly and punctual. The food was tasty and was served within a reasonable time frame. Plus the price was pretty average to what you would expect to pay for Pho. I tried the small bowl of Pho That Cam. Rare steak, brisket, tendon, beef and tripe. Im a fan of all that so it hit the spot! The broth was packed with flavor and you're given a pretty good amount of greens to add to your soup. I paired the Pho with a Thai ice tea that was filled to the brim. Mmmmm tasty! It all came in came under $12. Id say the only thing still in progress is the decor. But hey!...you're not there to lick the walls or eat paint chips. Again, its a work in progress. Its about the food IMO. Another wrinkle is the parking situation. The private lot is limited in spaces but its worth the effort to circle the lot at least once or you could try the street. I came in because of the banner sign "GRAND OPENING", not Yelp. Hmmmm...who does that without consulting Yelp FIRST nowadays? Well, a "Grand Opening" can apparently be for 4+ months (and counting)? 91 reviews, too. How new can this still be? The walls are bitterly plain white, no art, no nothing. The flat-screen TV isn't yet installed, but at least a hole has been cut out of the wall with a cable wire sticking out of it -- good start. Hmmmm, again. Do they need a ladder to finish off everything? If so, I have one that can be borrowed. The menu is an eclectic mix of Indonesian, Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese. The menu isn't enough of any one thing to be known distinct. I live for dumplings, but they have only 4 kinds. Pho seems to be a popular dish here, 4/5 dentists surveyed prefer Pho over other leading items on the menu. I ventured for 2 types of dumplings: chicken gyoza ($5/6 pcs), and pork/shrimp shu mai $4, 4 pcs), and the orange chicken ($9). 1. Both dumplings were a little better than okay. The pork/shu mai was the better of the two, but truly not special. I doctored them both up with an arsenal of sauces available at the end of my table. 2. The orange chicken, well, was quite jaw-dropping in size. For $9, it was a mammoth portion; 2-3x the size of "normal". Problem was the orange sauce was wet without any kind of flavor whatsoever. The batter resembled little bits of fried chicken -- much too thick. So, in the end -- nice service in an area of town that needs something new to offer. As for me, I don't think I'd return. Decent place for pho if you live in the Culver City area. I know it's hard to find a good pho place on the Westside. This place is good enough for me. This place has a pretty big menu. You can order pho, noodles, rice dishes, and meat dishes. I only come here and order their spicy beef pho. I really enjoy it! The soup has a nice subtle spiciness. The noodles are ok. Cute little unassuming Asian fusion restaurant with two of my favorite things; Vietnamese food (pho) and Dim Sum. The decor is modern but tasteful, the bathrooms cleaner than any I've seen in Los Angeles. The servers were friendly and very inquisitive as to my experience today, ostensibly hoping to fine tune any recipes by taking constructive feedback. Reasonably priced, and they take credit cards (many Vietnamese places are notorious for not doing so). I had the goi cuon (fresh summer rolls) and the pho ga (chicken soup) today, and both were quite tasty. The rolls were a bit less tightly wrapped than some I've had, just a personal preference, but wrapping them tighter makes them a bit easier to eat. Also, the rice noodle paper wasn't the softest. Flavors were really quite spot-on though. The pho was about the best I've had in LA, perhaps second only to Pho Cafe in Silverlake, which is in all fairness my favorite Vietnamese place in California, so a bar set quite high. They're off to a great start, and with a few minor tweaks, which they're apparently in the process of completing, it'll be even better. 4.5 stars really, but I'm going to round up because I hope they are successful, I teach just up the hill and am sick of the Hawaiian BBQ down the street... read more

We been standing in the cold for more than 20 minutes for 2 pho (they said 15 to 20 minutes). It should have been a warning when you see Chinese and Vietnamese food being served at a "Indonesian" restaurant. #154 - Charbroiled Shrimp Bun aka Bun Tom Nuong ($8) - charbroiled shrimp, bean sprouts, lettuce, and vermicelli topped with ground peanuts. I had to ask for two sauce bowls to toss in my bowl and it was STILL bland. the only thing with flavor was the shrimp... on another note, the shrimp were small. This is Culver City's little secret. I came on a Wednesday around 7 PM. Barely any customers. I've passed by this restaurant sitting in traffic and so glad a friend introduced this to me. You can park in their lot and they have a $12 card minimum I believe. It's not beautiful on the outside but the food is delicious. Food: A+ All I get is their shrimp spring rolls and pho for about $15. Their spring rolls ($5~) come with sliced of cucumber and pickled daikon. Their peanut dipping sauce is the best all around. Some restaurants peanut sauce just doesn't hit the spot you know? Pho (large is $9.25) broth is delicious!! Clean and not oily with film. Everything is super authentic and legit. I dont know why the reviews are terrible. When I go to a pho spot I just care that my food is delicious and clean. So I definitely recommend! The flavor of the Tom Yum Pho is delicious, they make it as spicy as you request for it to be. I was craving for some soup with noodles and so we picked this place nearby. The beef spring rolls were just okay. There was barely any beef inside and it really didn't match the price. As for the pho, I ordered the small chicken pho. The pho broth was decent - it could have been more flavorful. Came here for dinner on a weeknight with a friend. I'm happy to discover another pho place popping up in West LA. Although i didn't personally get the pho, the items that we did get were not too bad and decent for vietnamese food on the westside. They actually have a bit of a mix, fusion, pan asian cuisine going on here. My friend ordered the sesame chicken (which is a la carte). Nicely fried, not too oily, sauce not overwhelmingly tangy, it had a nice crunch to it. I enjoyed this. For myself, I ordered the Grilled Pork vermicelli: Personally for west side standards, the bun was actually not bad. The portions are a little small and some of the veggies not too authentic in taste, but overall not a bad plate. One thing that i was happy about was the fact that their fish sauce was actually good and tasted correct. Also, they accommodated my request with putting more lettuce rather than noodles. The last item that we shared was their shrimp spring rolls. Nothing fancy smancy, but decent spring rolls. A little expensive compared to prices in SGV or OC, but it's west LA and for the westside, the spring rolls were decent. I enjoyed the peanut dipping sauce which for some reason or another many fusion places just can get right. I was starting to really like this place too. Grrr!!! No amount of good food though, makes up for leaving angry. You just can't enjoy it after that. I used Yelp's tie-in to Eat24 to place my order online. Gave it the customary 10-15 minutes and then I drove over to pick up my food. Food, not ready. Order, just received. Okay, so I can deal with that since the online ordering thing is fairly new for them. But after standing around for 30 minutes in shorts and flipflops, watching other guests who arrived after me to eat sitdown meals get their food, now I'm pissed. The girl at the cashier is apologetic enough, but the explanation that online orders get cooked after sitdown orders is ridiculous. And when they finally get me my food, the owner/manager just drops it on the counter along with the bill and doesn't even bother to apologize for my inconvenience and wasting my time. I've been here two times with a friend who works nearby. He recommended that we try it for dinner since he often comes for lunch. The first time, we ordered the salt & pepper shrimp as well as various dim sums to split (we were super hungry), not to mention our own mains (I had the bun with pork and he had the pho). Everything was delicious - the bun which means vermicelli noodles was well cooked (the noodles were perfectly al dente), and the pork was well cooked - very flavorful and very tasty. His pho looked so good that I ordered that the 2nd time I came here. As for the dim sum, we had the Har Gow which was delicious - succulent and tender. The fresh roll was just ok - that's the one that I wouldn't order again. Going back to the Pho, it wasn't authentic (the broth lacked some seasoning and depth) but it was delicious none the less. The beef in the pho was thinly sliced and the accompaniments like the bean sprouts, lime, etc added to the soup. I thoroughly enjoyed it. One of the lounges I throw darts out of is in the same strip mall location so I've become a regular here, because after all, we all have to eat ... Anyway, for some reason, every time I've come in, it's always been on the chilly side, I've always been seated at the same table and I've always had Pho. Customer service is great. I never really know who my server is because the staff seems to just help anyone and everyone. I don't mind not knowing because they're all friendly and helpful. Parking can be tight and if it's dark, I wouldn't recommend parking in the back as it's not very well lit and even I have felt uncomfortable walking in the back alley a few times. I like the Pho. It's not the best I've had nor is it the worst. Consistent is the word that comes to mind. It hits the spot and when the dart season starts up again, I'm sure I'll find myself sitting there to enjoy another hot bowl. The only reason I give it a second star is that I should know better. Dim sum is always so much better in person. I ordered delivery. So my items were not fresh off the rolling cart. That said I can also recognize poor execution and lackluster ingredients. My steamed pork bun had barely enough filling for a baby's spoon, much less a whole bun. Once I did find the filling I was disappointed by the candy-sweet excuse for pork. The so-called potstickers were fried-wonton crispy but with less flavor. They would not stick to anything even with glue. The har gow had tiny pieces of pork bone and shrimp shell in it. The mushrooms did taste fresh but see above. We're very predictable, so you'll have to find out about anything else yourself. Since Pho is all about the broth, I will say that they get that right. Fragrant, with a complicated taste. Yes, they seem to have some staffing issues. Quick service one day, slower the next; but the wait staff are always friendly and attentive and seem to be doing their best.
