While it's one of their signature treats, my least liked: - Ube Cruffin ($7) They also offer sample tastes (and purchase) of their 2 olive oils: The Lorenzo (lighter) and The Brooklyn (darker). The staff was impressively positive and friendly, appreciatively patient (especially during this 1st visit), helpful, and efficient. They offer only outdoor seating in a narrow section in front and a fenced in section on the side of their shop. In addition, it's all parallel street parking. I parked at Lacy & Vance (about a 5 minute walk away, according to Google Maps -- I didn't time myself); my walk to/from the shop was very enjoyable along the quiet streets of this peaceful neighborhood, reminding me to be mindful and enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of the plants that surrounded me. The chewiest foccacia I've ever had! I also liked the monkey kougin aman and their chocolate chip cookie was great. The few times I have visited, it's always pretty busy with a line. The inside is beautiful! There is not much seating area at all and can feel a bit packed, definitely a grab and go. I would recommend coming on a weekday as the lines can be long and finding parking can take some time. Make sure you polish up on your parallel parking skills. Everything on the menu is incredible, so go with a party, wait in line and try everything! The service is quick, with extremely friendly staff along with a great vibe within the small space. This has been a place I've always wanted to visit, but they're only open from Thursday to Sunday 8-1pm. I wanted to go on a weekday so it's not too crowded, but I didn't want to get a day off for it so we ended up going on a Saturday. We got there 10 minutes before they opened and there was already a good sized line outside. By the time they opened, it only took us 20 minutes to get inside. It wasn't as long as I thought since people usually just grab and go. They have outdoor seating if you want to linger. I wanted to try the Croque Monsieur Croissant, but it was already sold out. The Tomato Cheese Croissant had a nice flakey texture and tasted similar to pizza. The Egg Salad Sandwich was very sweet and the bread is a little dry. The prices surprised me, my matcha came out to be $9, before tax. The interesting thing is that it's not hand whisked and prebatched. It was a good matcha, but not best I've had for the price point. My total was about $31 for three items, I understand it's made daily and takes a lot of preparation and quality ingredients, but this is more of a once in awhile treat for me. I feel like having gone a few times now, I can safely make the review that 61hundred Bread has a really great local bakery in the Santa Ana area that is worth the wait and drive! 61hundred Bread is located in a new section of Santa Ana filled with new shops/eats. We usually get there around 9-10AM and the line has been as long as 45 minutes (January) to as short as 20 minutes (April) so your time may vary. We found the wait to be not bad at all with a lot of friendly people in line. And sometimes, the staff comes out with samples which is always tasty and welcome. Getting into 61hundred Bread, you'll have a small breather seeing all of the pastries available on the counter as well as all of the workers creating all the lovely pastries. You'll usually see the sourdough first followed by the sweet pastries and cookies/smaller items at the end. Coming around 9-10AM, did want to note that usually 1-2 items were sold out by that point (like the Japanese milk bread). Our favorites include: *Pain au chocolat *Croissant *Sundried tomato croissant *Focaccia *Sourdough and blue corn sourdough These were all excellent and baked really well. We use the sourdough for all sorts of items at home and was great with wine and cheese nights. We personally didn't enjoy as much the ube cruffin and the cookies so far. Just a bit too sweet and not as strong as the other pastry options! My one early negative was that the coffee was a bit so-so, but it looks like the bakery is addressing this with an expanded barista menu with more options. My friend recently got the latte and said it wasn't bad and need to try it out myself as well. They had some other items as well to the side such as wines which were a neat touch. Right outside there's a small seating area as well as in front of the bakery where there are usually spots available. My friends all asked if this was worth it and if the hype is real... in my opinion it is!! I didn't get to try all their items yet but they are pretty solid in the bread and pastry department. 61hundred Bread is located in downtown Santa Ana in an unassuming location huddled in between a steel company and local residences, but that has not detracted anyone from lining up prior to open, eager to try some of Karlo Evaristo's beautiful creations. I arrived on a Sunday morning right before Memorial Day at around 9:20 AM and there was a decently long line. I thought some reviews may have been exaggerating a bit on how quick the line moves, but it is incredible how efficient the staff is. From getting in line to receiving my bread I waited only 15 minutes, and maybe another less than 10 mins to wait for my drink. The owner took my order and he was all smiles, and good vibes all around. I ordered the Rosemary Focaccia ($8) and some Ube Cruffins ($7) to share with friends. Incredibly reasonable prices for the quality and quantity they are outputting. The focaccia was phenomenal, super fluffy bread with a well-seasoned crust that dug through all the layers. And the ube cruffin deserves every ounce of hype it is getting. My Filipinos know how hit or miss ube is always here in the US, but of course Karlo did his hometown justice. Super flaky and sugary crust on the cruffin with an indulgent ube filling in the center topped with toasted marshmallow. I mean come on. I could go on and on, but I'll save it for the number of times I'm coming back here until I try every baked good here hahaha I will say one thing though is that my group ordered several drinks: Pistachio Latte, Matcha Latte w Vanilla Cold Foam, and Cold Brew with Ube Cold Foam. None of the drinks we got were particularly spectacular. The pistachio in the latte is definitely more forward if that's what you're into. The matcha latte, despite using Rocky's matcha, fell a little flat and maybe needs to adjust the milk ratio. Both drinks lighter on the sugar, so if you'd like it sweet make sure to let them know in your order. The ube cold foam on my cold brew was pretty much unnoticeable throughout any sips of my drink. Stopping by here is a highlight of my week! The breads are all wonderful - it took me a few weeks to realize you can ask for them to be sliced, so FYI if that appeals to you! The classic sourdough is just what you'd expect from an artisan loaf. The blue corn is so unique, with some sweetness. The sourdough milk bread is absolutely delightful, probably my favorite, but my daughter SWEARS by the giant focaccia slices - decadent and delicious. (The rolls and baguette are good, although not as much bang for your buck IMO.) The sweet sourdough focaccia is a fun sweet treat, too. Then, you get to the pastries! Our current favorites are the chocolate croissant, monkey bread, and the almond-raspberry pastry. It can be a little hard to see everything in the case, but the employees are always patient about answering questions or giving you a moment to look down the line, so don't be shy! I've also been known to add one more thing as I get to the register if I spot something after I've ordered, and they're always kind about that, too. Everything gets nicely packaged and bagged, and then when you hit the register, you can add drinks. The drink specials are always a treat, with house-made syrups and additions that make them special. As for logistics, yes, parking is a pain. You might have to drive around a bit and squeeze into a spot - I'm not a great parallel park-er, but I always manage. There is often a line (not much of one closer to 8, but by 9-10 it can look long), but it moves pretty fast and is usually filled with friendly people - we're all here for delicious treats; it's a nice crowd. There are a few tables out front, but a lot of people seem to miss that there is a nice seating area off to the side, too!
