This bakery is open for you to go inside and select the bake goods you want. I needed a small birthday cake and ordered the black forest cake. The dark chocolate cake was moist and it was covered with the creamy icing with tart red cherries to contrast the sweetness of the cake and icing. In my opinion that really made it better. The sweetness was still more dominant while the cherries blended. I didn't feel blah after eating the sugar. The cake was large enough to get 5 or 6 slices to eat. The price was reasonable and I will definitely go back for more. The menu is good and there are several choices to choose from. If you are being lazy or don't have the cookware or skills to prepare your own cake then give 85 deg C a try. I'm sure you will enjoy whatever you select. I know I did. My family LOVES this bakery, particularly the young staff who are friendly and cheerful. Unfortunately, yesterday the manager came up to my 19 year-old college daughter, who is home for the summer, to tell her she needed to take her drink and leave vs chat with the employee while he was making the drinks. My daughter had been there only a couple minutes while he continued working on an unusually slow point in the day, and this is part of the enjoyment of coming to the café. As a business owner myself, when she recognized that my daughter is a regular customer directly to her, wouldn't you think that it would be better to show appreciation instead?! My daughter is very sensitive and careful not to slow the service down but if the manager had concerns, she could have redirected the employee. I don't believe the manager would've approached my daughter had I been in the café with her instead of a parent waiting outside. But my cheerful, kind daughter is her true customer! This manager needs a lot more training in customer service where the whole point is to build relationships with customers not break them. read more

Food: 5 stars I love the variety and how there's new items every few months. Love me some milk buns (all time favorite here is the taro swirl bun-- not the purple one but the one with the crunchy stringy puff pastry type of bread on top). Cakes here are also great- they're not too sweet and they often use the whipped icing. I'm also a huge fan of the sea salt coffee series and I'm impatiently waiting for the coupon book to come back. I found this place searching for a birthday cake for my daughter. They have ube, which she loves. The cake was lovely and delicious. Nothing was too sweet, and the icing wasn't that stuff that leaves a film in your mouth a la grocery store bakeries. After that, she and I went in to see what other things we could find. Of course, that was the day before Thanksgiving, so it was packed. The line moved pretty quickly and we found some treats for everyone in the house. I even grabbed a loaf of brioche for French toast. It snowed last night(yes its a big thing in Texas)and was excited in the morning and wanted to try a new place for breakfast and coffee so stopped by at 85. So many baked goods to pick and if you're first timer you get bit lost to choose which one to try Finally picked potato and cheese, sea salt coffee, one major drawback of this place is if you want to eat there they don't warm it up, personally I prefer warm, so when i tried it more than how it tasted, it was sticking to my mouth and making my mouth dry(it's butter, I guess) which I dint like it. About sea salt coffee, it's my first time trying it, at first sip I dint like it as it was more salty, warm(foam I think), so I stirred it up and added a bit more sugar and a splash of milk, then it tasted good but nothing wowwwed me, maybe it's just me as I have never tasted sea salt coffee and I dunno how it tastes. Customer service, they have to work a lot on it, i asked a couple of questions about pastries and it was like I m talking to a robot, they don't greet you, and answer in a single word and by the time you want to ask second question they're not making eye contact, it's a totally unfriendly place. When you stop by at the morning you expect a pleasant atmosphere and a welcoming customer service with a little smile on their face. And it's a way too PriCey! I love 85 degree bakery, it's a must for my family and I. The breads are always fresh and the boba drinks have never let me down, my kids always choose their birthday cake from here. I notice a lot of staff shortage around which include this bakery, so weekend there will be a long line and sometimes they do not have a large amount of bread out in display. If you do decide to check it out, just remember there's a shortage of staff and I am sure they are trying their best! The workers are always friendly to me and gives me top customer service! Good spot for some yummy baked goods. There are a good variety of baked pastries. You can find matcha bread, coffee bread, taro bread, cheesecake, milk bread, etc. There are so many to choose from. If you like egg custards, definitely get the Portuguese egg tarts. Those are always so delicious from this bakery. I have noticed, however, that while this bakery still offer a good selection, they don't offer as much variety as other 85 degree locations that I've been to. Perhaps they bake pastries based on popularity in that area? I would like to see more of the other types of pastries that is part of their menu. They also serve drinks which is a good pairing with these pastries. I usually get their rose milk tea. There are not too many Asian bakeries in Austin so I'm glad there is this one. read more

New location of 85 degrees. I never really like 85 degrees. The bread tastes of butter substitute, and is mediocre in general. Nevertheless, 99 Ranch is a far drive for Cedar Park people, so I guess this will suffice for them if they're craving Asian bread. Tous les Jours is inside H-Mart, but is pricey. Not much sitting space, nor any sofas. You just stand in line after you grab everything you want, and then leave. It'd be great if 85 degrees made themselves similar to a cafe. They've got the snacks and the drinks for it. Their drinks are actually pretty good for a bakery. The drinks are ironically better than the bread. 85 Degrees is next to H-mart. Prepare to struggle to find parking because you'll be competing with the H-mart shoppers. Weekends are the busiest time of the day along with nights. Early mornings and afternoons are the best time to visit. read more

I love this little North Austin secret bakery! They have a HUGE selection of pastries and breads, along with smoothies and tea. My favorite is the Match bun with chocolate filling (around 500 calories though!). The pastries are slightly lower on the sugar side, which I personally prefer over extremely sweet pastries. Another good thing about the place is ample seating, parking, and cashiers on duty. I have always come here for to-go orders and every time it has been really fast! I am not really sure they have wi-fi to get work done here. Tip: come here early in the morning to grab your favorites, they usually thin out by afternoon. read more

I'm visiting from Arizona and my sister had always been talking about this spot. I was really enjoying the vibe so I apologize I did mot get photos. You essentially walk in, grab a clean tray and your own pair of tongs by the trays and go through all their baked goods that had names next to them so you get an idea of what you'll be tasting. I tried the chocolate bread, mocha roll, cheese and garlic bread as well as the egg tart. I was not at all disappointed. It was all flavorful and tasted fresh. The chocolate roll had chocolate chunks inside which pairs well with coffee. What could make this spot even better is if we can have the choice to heat up the baked goods so it's softer. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't stale at all, but if I had heated up the cheese and garlic bread, that would have made it even way better. However, now that I am vegan, I am very limited with my options as all of their bakery menu seems to be non-vegan and all but one (Tiger Boba Latte) milk teas can be substituted with soy milk. They have good coffee and bubble tea drinks. They also have a large selection of baked goods but the flavors are not particularly strong other than the coffee flavored ones. Their chocolate and taro breads are the color they should be but not very much the flavor. For example if you get the taro pastry or taro swirled breads they will vaguely have the scent of taro in their filling. And when you look and taste closely you will see that the taro fillings are actually made of sweetened white bean that is colored to look like taro. The same goes for their mocha breads etc. The colors are there but the flavors are not so much. The 85 Degrees bakeries don't usually have many flaws but the ones located in Austin seem to be having a bit of trouble getting their stuff together. This specific location still has a bit of trouble getting their drink orders out in a timely manner. They also do not have a barista station window where you would normally walk over to pick up your drinks. Instead you either have to wait by the cashier station (awkward) or wait for them to call your number - which in many times is not loud enough due to the amount of noise inside. I have also been there several times to find they ran out of the bread I stopped by for or stopped making them early. They also open late and close early compared to other locations I have been to all over the US. I hope they change some of these shortcomings. I know they don't have much competition but we should still be able to pick up a coffee before 10am, no? By the way if you're a mom with kids who wear diapers don't expect to change them here! They actually DON'T have a changing table in their restrooms! Parking is not a problem since they are in a plaza that is part of Hmart. read more

I LOVE that there is an 85°C Bakery Cafe in Austin. I used to have one right beside my office in California so I would go there frequently for snacks and drinks. I had no idea that there were locations outside of CA in the US but it was great news when I found out about it. My go to drink at most places that offer it is the taro slush + boba so I would regularly order it at 85 as well. Specific to 85 though, I really like to drink the iced sea salt jasmine tea - make sure you shake it up if you order a sea salt drink! If you're not really looking for something to drink, 85 has a variety of pastries and cakes too. The cakes that I've tried are very rich so they are perfect if you like sweets. They sell them as a whole or by the slice. The pastries are self-service so you can pick up as many as you'd like. read more

She brought me Taro bun from here the first time and i didnt eat it do to not knowing this place existed lol i thought she got it from some random place but after grabbing the same Taro Bun she tried to give me i felt embarrassed lol. I brought it home a tore it up ha ha....I also got a Mango Creme Brullee cake and i can not stop thinking about how good it was. Tried the bakery for the first time and both breads I bought were delicious! I am a huge fan of sweets and baked goods, so I was really excited to check a new place out. There were wide variety of brews, and I got two individually wrapped ones (chocolate and custard cream filled bread). I really loved the chocolate bread, and they were really generous about the fillings. The custard cream was also delicious and the bread part was fluffy. I inhaled both of them but didn't feel like they were heavy or greasy. If I am in the Austin area, I will definitely try more breads! read more

There are only a few things better than walking into a bread bakery. Walking into 85°C, the amazing smells of buttery sweet bread hits you. They make and display all the classic Asian inspired breads, including pork floss buns, pineapple buns, red bean buns, and green tea cream rolls. Clearly, their display cases are the stuff of my dreams! All the freshly made buns are wedged into the far right corner of the store, so accessing them for purchase is a little crowded. During this particular visit, I purchased the red bean bun and their famous egg tart. A whole display case is dedicated to the egg tart. The red bean bun, stuffed with paste, is so beautiful to look at. The bun is coated with butter that gets all over your fingers. It tasted slightly sour to me, I am not sure if that is how it's suppose to be. I prefer the bun without the sour taste. With the best flakey pie crust, the egg tart pretty good. I like thick and sweet egg custard, while this one fell out of the pie crust easily and was mild in taste. I am so excited to try all the buns! read more
