The lines can vary in length, but there is usually always a line of some kind. Thankfully, it goes pretty quickly. Given the amount of people that frequent this bakery, they may want to consider a little more indoor seating. But regardless, I've never had an issue thus far finding a place to sit and enjoy my goods. I generally grab about two bakery items, and I will order a hot tea along with it. My husband will usually get a coffee drink, a Boba tea or a Thai tea. we've never had any complaints, everything is always delicious. We will continue to frequent this location! read more

Why offer online ordering if you don't make it until someone comes in to pickup and says they have an online order? Then make them wait another 10 mins? This is how they operate consistently. Advice. I reviewed this establishment three years ago. Since that time an unfortunate change has taken place. It is now astonishingly slow and workers are either new or undertrained. I stand in line 10+ minutes while several employees try to figure out register functionality while two others stop their progress on drinks to come assist. Now FIVE employees are looking at the register while customers wait to be checked out or for drink orders. Visiting this location is now a painful reminder of how a once efficient and positive experience can turn for the worst. Came here after having dinner at Hmart to get some baked goods desserts. I got my usual chocolate buns and they were great. There wasn't much of a line here in the early evening and they even had some nice seating for the rest of my family to wait for me while I picked out some goodies. Very delicious and beautifully presented bakery goods, coffee and tea! The variety of buns, cakes and more are likely to please the most picky of eaters! The items are always individually wrapped and the drinks made to order. You can also custom order cakes and some desserts. The only reason I don't give it a 5 is because their app is not user friendly and they always seems to have "trouble" applying their promotions and coupons. Also, they definitely need to take better care of their restrooms because I don't know about other customers but I find that to be a reflection of how their kitchen and behind the scenes environment must be. Overall though I much rather buy in this bakery than the one in the grocery store in the same block. Better prices and quality imo. The milk tea bun is absolutely delicious. It's light and fluffy with a milk tea custard filling. I also tried the Black Forest slice which has whipped cream, chocolate cake, and cherry filling with chocolate shards on top. The Hokkaido custard bun was also amazing and the custard was more like a whipped cream filling but airy as well. It was dusted with a powdered sugar on top. I love 85 bakery! I will say that their price has increased and their bread has gotten smaller over the last few years, but that's almost every other place. I love their sea salt drink line, especially the green tea. It's sweet but has a hint of saltiness that makes me want to continue drinking more. Their mango slush is also very good and refreshing (I love getting this in the summer!) I've pretty much tried almost everything at this bakery. Some of my favorites are the milk tea bun, spinach danish, and egg tart. The milk tea bun is quite sweet but has a filling that includes tapioca! It's a unique texture that may not fit everyone's palate. I love warming up the spinach danish and having it for breakfast. It's the perfect amount of flakiness from the pastry and saltiness from the spinach filling. The egg tart here is one of the best I've had. Whether it's cold or hot, it tastes amazing. They keep on topping up their products in the display aisle. Since this is located next to an Asian supermarket 'H-Mart', the foot traffic at the business is always high. The chocolate croissant I tried was good, but not special. There are some savory pastry options as well. Unfortunately, the store has no way of heating up pastries they recommend heating before eating. For this reason, I would say they could drop the word cafe out of their name. They also have cakes and various other desserts in a cold case. I tired the Royal Chocolate Cup, and it was ok. The candies on top are bought, not made, which was disappointing. Now the coffee, that's what one of the things they do well! The Sea Salt Caramel coffee was very good. If you are looking for a wide variety of good pastries or a fantastic cup of coffee, then stop by. If you're looking for a cafe, keep looking. read more

The best part of 85 degrees is the eye appeal of their enormous selection of self service baked goods and beautiful window display of cakes and desserts. In practice, I've found only a few different treats that I will get more than once. Try the egg tart and berry tart. Lots of the baked goods are novel to try especially if you have not had Asian baked goods before but they are not really that good. Service and selection have definitely suffered here compared to the other locations, and they often run out of many of our favorite pastries. The store's design is also not as well laid out compared to the other locations. Still, 85 degrees is one of my favorite places to sit and have a coffee and a treat with a friend. Make sure you catch the buy one drink get one free deal on Mondays! I found this bakery by chance searching for a quick bite for breakfast and was absolutely blown away when I walked through the door. First of all, the incredibly delicious aroma of fresh coffee and pastries is intoxicating. I honestly wanted to try every single thing. The rose cheese bun was incredible and so was the ham and cheese. There were so many other ones I wanted to try. They also had a variety of boba teas, Thai tea, and a refreshing strawberry de leche drink which was delicious. I have to say...I'm usually underwhelmed by pastries at most coffee shops. But this bakery and coffee shop absolutely exceeded my expectations. We will be back simply for the fact that I want to try all of the pastries. I've had a good amount of their bakery bread before and they've always been very good! The bread tastes fresh and you can smell them as soon as you walk into the store. Some of my favorites are the pork sung bun, mango custard bun, and the coconut bun. Came to 85 this time to try one of their cakes and my brother and I settled on trying the mango creme brûlée. Not really sure which part of the cake was creme brûlée, but the cake and icing itself were light and not overly sweet (just the way I like it and why I'm a big fan of Asian cakes). Ok. I am raising my rating to five stars. In my last review - I could only sample a curry bun because I was caffeine-d out for the day. Today I was able to show up ready to do everything. I made off with a Chocolate Swiss Roll and their trademark Iced Caramel Sea Salt Coffee. Both were outstanding but in different ways. * * * Baked goods here are of an Asian persuasion. This means a) Look fantastic b) Very limited use of sugar. Maybe 20% as Sweet as a Western version of the same dish. c) Very subtle use of flavoring. This is actually how Asian desserts work in general. They are almost more savory than sweet. Once you tone down your American Biggo Piggo I Want My Sugar and My Chocolate and I Want It Now mentality ... The charm of Asian desserts becomes clear. These are subtle graceful pleasures to be held in the mouth and enjoyed - Rather than just wolfed down for the sucrose rush. At that level, I came to love my Chocolate Swiss Roll. (Note that archrival bakery Tous Les Jours caters more to American tastes. Their desserts are markedly sweeter.) * * * Whatever restraint 85 Degrees shows on desserts gets thrown out the window when it is coffee time. Asian Bubble Teas and Coffees are all-out over-the-top exercises in sugar madness. You CAN ask for less sugar and some people do. But that is like asking for less passion in romance. Their salted caramel coffee is an amazing winner. It has two components. One is a sweet but not at all cloying caramel coffee. That is better than any caramel coffee drink you will get at Starbucks or even at most Austin-independent coffee houses. Frankly, most coffee houses - corporate or wacko - simply don't do caramel well. 85 degrees nails it. But the caramel coffee is just the warm-up act. On top of the coffee is a thick layer of salted cream - practically a sour cream. Central American cooking buffs - You should recognize the topping as a classic salty Crema Salvadorena. Crema Salvadorena can be salty or acidic or both. This is both. I kill for Crema Salvadorena. I never would have dreamed of combining it with a caramel coffee. The combination will send you through the roof. I was happy for the rest of the day. * * * There are still a lot of things to try at 85 degrees. So many treats. So little time. read more

Very good bakery/cafe combo! Note: this review is for products purchased during their 'soft open' in early 2019. There should be more products and customer service as they 'fully' open in the Spring. 85C is located just around the corner from the Hmart, while being in the same building. It's got a reasonable selection of both sweet and savory pastries though I did notice that they were short on the really 'difficult' ones such as croissants or other elaborately folded treats. Service was fine and the location is pleasant if one wants to eat in and sip some of their excellent coffee. I took 3 desserts home: a tiramisu, chocolate mousse cake, and a salted caramel/coffee cake. A little pricey at ~3.50 a small slice, but these are delicate offerings. Of the bunch, the tiramisu is excellent, though it lacks a 'rum' flavor. The mousse cake is delish and appropriately chocolaty. The salted caramel cake tastes good, but it a little dry. On the whole, very good and I'll be stopping by to try them again! This place scores a 4 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. When you walk in, head to the right. Trays and tongs are held in a rack so you can help yourself. My first selection was a cinnamon stick, flakey pastry dough twisted and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. There were also Danish and other sweet treats too numerous to name were found. The next section were the breads. Both sweet and savory varieties lined the bins. There was a walnut sesame that called my name. Throughout my browsing, bakers were constantly coming out and refilling the bins and racks. Oh the aromas when they did. Decided I have enough of a sampling, I head to the checkout. Here is where the line was, unfortunately lingering long enough to view the cake display. Who put that chocolate mousse cake at eye level for me. Yep, I asked for one at the checkout. While checking out a gentleman behind the counter asked if I want a drink. Again a huge selection of coffees, teas, and smoothies. I passed this time.
