Visited for an early Saturday dinner and the place wasn't that packed. The music choice here is interesting, definitely more Korean throwbacks and less of the modern kpop haha. Service was good, there's a call button and the waiters were quick in bringing side dishes and our orders. We got cold noodles with whelks, fried chicken, and a spice seafood noodle. Overall, the food was surprisingly decent, definitely didn't expect this quality coming in and will visit again in the future. Parking is also easy, sharing a big lot with plenty of other businesses. It's very clean inside and the service is super friendly; you order at the counter, the food is brought to you. I was in plaza for something else and happened across 88 Hotdog & Pocha. This place is located in the old Tea Station location. I saw that they were selling some Korean street food, so decided to try a hotdog and a sausage and rice cake skewer. I chit chatted with the owner (?) and she told me that they had just opened last week. They had a good amount of street food to try and a variety of drinks. I ended up taking my order to-go, but they had seats inside and a few tables outside. As for the food itself, it was pretty good. I thought that the hot dog was light and crisy. It was not as good as some of the other chain restaurants, but it was fresh and tasty. The skewer was also super tasty (it was probably one of the best that I had). I really enjoyed the food because it was clearly freshly made and had a super home-y taste to it. I definitely want to come back. It looks like they are applying for a liquor license, so I think they are trying to make this into a night time street food location. I will definitely come back for that! Looks like they're still getting on their feet so I'm not sure how accurate this is. Nice to have so many caffeine free drink options and juices in a plaza very full of boba options. Watermelon pineapple was pleasant if sweet, the same way I feel about Taiwanese juices. I would get it less sweet next time but I'm not sure if that's an option. The Korean strawberry latte had no coffee and was effectively a strawberry milk. Full bar food menu and still applying for an alcohol license. Didn't look the cheapest and I was just there for a snack. The corndog menu is a little confusing with the first five items on the menu also serving as the filling for the other menu items. Hot Cheeto corndog was good although it only had some Cheeto dust on top not around the whole thing. The coating was nicely crunchy and chewy but the overall temperature was strangely just warm and not the burn my mouth I ate it too fast I expect of corn dogs. They also have a bell on your table in case you are unable to flag someone down. For food we ordered the kimchi fried rice and korean style chicken wings. Both have a slight spice to them and I believe you can even request to make the chicken wings spicier. The kimchi fried rice comes with an egg on top, cheese mixed in, chopped onions, and I think diced sausage. Although the cheese made it harder to scoop out, the fried rice had a good flavor in each bite, especially when you get all of the items in one spoonful. The chicken wings came out hot and came lathered in a red sauce which made it kind of messy to eat but didn't take away from the crispiness. Overall we enjoyed eating here. The food was good, the service was good, and the atmosphere was really welcoming. They had kpop music playing and an interesting decor with blue lights and emptied soju/beer bottles. And when it was delivered to our table, the server told us how to eat it: grab a slice of pork belly stack the chives and a jalapeño on top. Loved each bite of this. The Ra Bokki was great. They were super generous with the cheese on top too. There was rice cakes, ramen, fish cakes, and egg. The corn cheese had the best cheese pull. Tastes like your usual Korean spices with a good chew. It's hard to find places where they have baby octopus so I'm sooo happy they have this on the menu now. The seafood cream pasta was not bad. Overall it was good but too much of some kind of herb for me which I could've done without. Bestie said she thinks it wasn't creamy enough. There is plenty of seafood and frozen chopped veggies...if you're into that. Not bad. I'd still get it again if I was in the mood. I wanted to like this place more, but overall it isn't bad. True rating is closer to a 3.5, but Yelp doesn't allow half star ratings. Parking is easy at this location, as it's in a shared plaza with several other restaurants and Tokyo central. Do keep in mind that it is best to come into this location and NOT expect or compare it to a pocha in Korea or K-town, as you'd be bound to be disappointed. However, on its own, and compared to other establishments in the South Bay Area this place isn't bad Service was straight and to the point-you won't get the superficial bells and whistles from American restaurants where people make small talk with you and check on you to see how you are. There are two uncles running the place, and they will promptly seat you and bring you food. When you are ready to have your order taken or if you have any extra needs beyond the basics, there is a doorbell for you to push. I strongly prefer this method of dining-you get what you need and you don't have a waiter trying to befriend you for an extra tip. I have a soft spot for establishments run by older aunties and uncles too Food came out rather quickly, and we had some hits and misses: -Oden/Fish cake soup: this was probably my favorite item we ordered. The broth was good, and the fish cakes were cooked well and not mushy. I wish there was more variety to the fish cakes though. Seemed like they had just 1 of each type of fish cake in this -Spicy ramen: it was okay. Noodles were more cooked than I would have liked, and I'm not a huge fan of hot dogs in ramen personally. -rice cake+ sausage skewer: A winner for me. A fun place to feel like you are in K-town but in local Gardena! Place was packed by 7pm Friday night with 2-3 parties waiting to get in the rest of the evening at all times. Food service was prompt and great at all times - waiter and waitresses are responsive and great! Being a 'hakujin' I love having the table button to request service - never gets old to me... spicy squid here is always great. The best dish on the menu? The deep-fried chicken gizzards - beware dipping in the garlic sauce - even for you Koreans it's fiercely strong - you'll have gizzard dragon breadth all night - make sure your partner is also enjoying it or sleep on the couch tonight... soju and pitch of beer is our go to usually! We've also enjoyed the tteok bokki and fried rice in the past. We haven't had anything yet that disappointed.
