This is such a great classic place to grab some good food in Lodi. They have car shows during the summer. You can eat inside, order at the drive up and have them bring it out or go through the drive thru. Customer service is always great. The root beer is to die for. Normally, I would give this place five stars because I love their food, and still do. However after my experience today I might not be coming back for awhile. So I ordered two papa burger meals for the buy one get one free deal and I ordered one of the burgers plain for my wife. I said it clear as day but when they gave me my food, they didn't make it plain like I asked. I mentioned this to the guy who gave me my food and he says, "it looks like you didn't order a plain burger" but I told him that I did and the cashier just didn't hear me apparently. So they remake it for me, but it takes almost 15 minutes. At this point, I walk up to the counter and I can see the burger sitting there but they never gave it to me. So I asked the same gentlemen if it was ready and he finally grabs it for me and asked if that was all that I ordered. He clearly forgot about me or else he would've remembered that they got my order wrong. At the end of our meal, I go back to the counter to get our root beers refilled to go. The girl who refilled them for me gives me the cups but forgets to put the lid on one of them. So I ask, "can I get a lid??" And she says, "oh sorry I thought I gave it to you." Ridiculous, not to mention all the workers were just talking and laughing the whole time and barely even doing their jobs. They're lucky the food was good, or else I would've given an even worse review. read more

Still amazing after all this time! We were in Lodi visiting family and my wife wanted to stop in for a burger and a drink. The first thing you realize is that this is a small town and customer service is "different". The people behind the counter have a sense of community and genuinely care how your day is. Then to top it off everything is cooked fresh and tasted amazing. Best bacon cheeseburger I've had in a long time... Then the made fresh root beer... You just can't get it like this anymore! This A & W in Lodi is the way they all should be...the way A & W's used to be with all the covered car service drive-in slots, It was late when we stopped in, and to be honest, I don't know if they actually provide car service, but it reminded me of when I was a kid. As far as the food...we only had root beer served in a frosty glass mug, and it was delicious! It's definitely worth coming by if you are passing through Lodi or live in the area. read more

" She said she would get me someone to wipe the table but she didn't! My granddaughter said that she didn't get anyone yet to wipe the table so she came to wipe it and didn't even wipe the table! A&W is like an old friend. I grew up eating at A&W and it is still my favorite fast food restaurant in Lodi. You can get a hamburger anywhere, but there is no substitute for a good, cold mug of A&W root beer. The building has been remodeled and looks great. The food and service remains excellent. I seen they were having a special on Tuesdays, buy one papa burger combo get one FREE. So I decided to give it a try. Its been over 7years since I've visited this place and they have really made some changes. They took out the car hops and added a drive thru. Its a bit different because you order at a normal looking drive thru menu board but there is no window yet to pull up to. Instead someone will come out take your money then bring you your food. I really didnt mind their new set up. I just remember those classic car hops and them bringing your food out on skates. Something that will be missed. Anyways- back to the food. They burgers we ordered were quite well for fast food. Everything was hot and fresh. I also ordered a kids combo. My child liked it as well, kids combo comes with a free ice cream cone. I ended up paying$13.99 for the two papa burger combos (Tuesday special included) and a kids combo. For the price I'd say give it a try! read more

Great food and employees here. It's so good, that whenever my niece and nephew visit from out of town they ask to come here. This is the first A & W location where the burgers aren't bland. The root beer in the frosted mug is great. And the soft serve is the creamiest I've ever tasted. Love the memorabilia decor and the fact that we can buy root beer lollipops. A&W started in Lodi CA. Current location has been an A&W for a long long time. Inside A&W are displays of old A&W mugs and containers since the beginning of the business. The owner Pete is a great guy and makes an effort to offer events like Thursday Night Cruise Nights - come and see some very cool cars and motorcycles. I must say the root beer floats are delicious and the best around. The customer service however is contrary. I ordered a small rootbeer float and asked for just a bit more ice cream in it with a bit less rootbeer. The Guy walks over to the employee ABS says charge her in a condenseding way and made the girl at the register feel bad. Okay so here is the kicker THEY CHARGE ME 1$ EXTRA WHEN ITS THE SAME PRICE AS A LARGE. DIDNT EVEN SAY YOU CAN GET A MEDIUM FOR 20 CENTS! I can't believe he rolled his eyes too. When my wife and I visited this A & W, we were struck with how bland and predictable the food was, along with the indifferent attitude of the female behind the counter. She seemed as if she could care less about her job. This is definitely a fast food joint with no class, tasteless fare, and only a retro atomosphere to redeem itself. Have been going to A&W for 55 plus years here in Lodi and now that comes to a end. Tried to call my order in like I have hundreds of times but no answer. Called back a second time and no answer, so I left a message. I'm disabled and call my order in so I wouldn't have to wait. Never got a call back so I decided to call them today to see why. Was told by manager that if their busy they won't answer or return your call. So why leave a message? Sorry to say it, but their service has gone downhill and that's sad. Maybe they should take their phone out and save some money or hire another worker so you won't loose more business. read more
