Bought a Babylock serger and Elna sewing machine here over the last few years. I've brought them in multiple times now for servicing and repairs. When my serger broke in the middle of a project I was pretty disappointed but they got the part ordered and the machine fixed within a week! Best part? I took a used sewing machine that I just bought in for repair and servicing. The plastic bobbin case on my top loading, drop-in machine was chipped and needed to be replaced. I was charged $30 for a replacement bobbin case, after the man who helped me came down a slight bit in the price for servicing. He quoted me $150 for both the part and service and when I hesitated he came down to $130. My machine has been great since having it serviced so I can say that he did a good job there. But after driving down the street and consulting with Sierra Sewing Center on what they would've charged (not telling them I took it somewhere else, just asking their price) I realized I was overcharged by $25. No biggie but a little annoying. What really makes me feel taken advantage of tho is that after my first project I took my plate off to clean out my machine and when I pulled the bobbin case out it had the same chip in it with superglue holding the missing plastic piece in there!! I took my chipped case with me when I dropped my machine off so he must have had another broken one that was repaired with superglue hanging around. I would've been okay with it if he'd said something and not charged me $30 for a new case!!! Since I'm now debating on an embroidery machine or a serger or maybe even another sewing/embroidery machine with a larger throat space for quilting...or maybe even both a serger and another sewing machine this guy screwed himself. He had a great selection of used machines (no way I'm buying new for everything I want/need). I would've gone back to him and purchased machines as well as for servicing/repair if he'd not saved himself $5 on putting a broken/repaired part in my machine and charged me for a new part. If you're going here for vacuum repair beware...you may not see the superglued replacement part he's charging you full price for. read more

He doesn't repair. He just tells you he does on the phone. Then when you get there he says "Nah, you don't want to repair that. It will cost to much. Can't get parts, or some other bull!" Very happy with the service here! Brought my Husqvarna in for cleaning and service for birdsnesting, very happy with the price and speed returned, they only had it for less than a week! I had originally brought it to the other sewing shop in town that has been here for ages, actually where I bought it 16yrs ago, but after I had a less than friendly experience dropping it off and was also quoted a very high price for basic service and a 2 week turnaround time, I went right back in and said never mind, I needed it back sooner. Little cramped, a little dirty but GREAT PRODUCTS so who cares! the sales guy went out of his way to show and explain any thing i wanted! I only had 100 bucks to spend and this guy sold me a used vacuum that normally retails for 300 bucks! It was a riccar vacuum and OMG i will never buy a junk one from walmart again! This thing rocks! never ever go bagless there junk i have had them all from 50 dollar ones to 500 dollar ones! after 2 months the bag was full and still the sucktion on this was enough to pick up a large can of beans! The bags they sell are the same price on line so no waiting for UPS for me! Ill be going back for sure! read more

I have been sewing for many years. Many. I decided I needed a new basic embroidery machine. My husband talked to different dealers in the area and didn't feel we could work with them, He found A-1 Vacuum and Sewing in Reno. I won't go anywhere else. I'm up to three machines now (Embroidery, Serger, and Commercial) and each one I purchased in a no pressure atmosphere. I explained what I wanted and they showed me my options. Patrick is awesome. My old Wind Tunnel broke and was in shitty, sad shape when I decided I wanted to have it repaired and not pay for some fancy futuristic vacuum which didn't work well. The cord was messed up, the filter was fucked up, the on and off button was dead, and the press at the bottom broke so the vacuum didn't stand up. It just fell over. I've had the thing for 18 years and it worked well...it just needed surgery :). I read good things about A1 and they were close to me, so I took the vacuum down there. The gentleman ( I assume was the owner) did try to sell me a fancy shmancy German vacuum, and pointed out that the repairs to my vacuum were not going to be cheap...but I didn't feel like paying all that money ( which was still three times as much as the repairs) for that ugly ass modern vacuum. I paid up front for the services and within TWO DAYS, they called me and said it was repaired, with a new filter ( and an extra one too!) and everything was good! I was surprised at how fast the work was done. Yes, it wasn't cheap, but good craftsmanship and repairs never are. I now have a vacuum back that's as good as brand new. read more

Excellent! I went looking for an embroidery sewing machine and brought my husband for technical advice. They spent so much time with us. I had many sewing questions and looked at several models. My husband knows nothing about sewing but is very good with computers and programming. There was not an question they could not answer. The classes were excellent. Having checked out other stores where the sales person admits they know nothing about sewing, this place made me feel I was getting the product I needed and continued service. My wife and I took our Miele vacuum in for repair. Peter did an analysis and advised that the problem caused by the the broken bag was serious damage to the motor. We traded the damaged Miele with several extra filters and purchased the Red Velvet cannister type Miele. My wife tried the new Miele and it was a real problem for her to operate on our upgraded carpets and pads. So, we took it back and Peter demonstrated the best Simplicity model which really appealed to my wife as it was self-propelled. Peter was so kind and gracious and allowed us to exchange the Miele for the top-of-the-line two-speed Simplicity with at least a one year supply of bags. In April, 2019, took my Pfaff machine in for a cleaning and I told the owner that the machine worked fine except the foot didn't respond real well. He went into great detail telling me how the spring worked and that it needed to be replaced. He charged me extra for this ($139.00 total for spring, labor to replace, and cleaning). I paid. I received a call that my machine was ready and picked it up within a couple of weeks. (I live a distance from Reno). In December I got the machine out to sew decorations. The foot still did not respond properly. I took the machine back to Patrick (think his name was). First he said that it had been too long for him to guarantee the work. When he saw that it wasn't working for me he told me that he had some other people doing his work for 3 months and he couldn't guarantee their work. That was not working for me either. Then he said that Pfaff didn't make parts for my machine any longer. Then he said he fixed it. I asked how? He said he heated the oil around the screw with a heat gun. Then he said he couldn't get into the unit where the spring was and that I wouldn't be able to get into it either because it wasn't made to be accessed. I finally got so tired of hearing excuses that I asked for my machine. He then charged me another $30 to get my machine back. I can't believe he charged me $170 and all he did was clean my machine. I see that his company has a really high rating and that is why I took it there. I can not. recommend this company to anyone. Oh, by the way he left 2 screws out of the bobbin cover plate when he cleaned my machine. Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I came home, opened the top of the machine. Accessed the screw that controls the foot lever, oiled it and closed the machine. It works fine now. I feel like I"ve been scammed by this guy! Again, I will say BEWARE! read more

Zero stars...Brought my elderly Mom's vacuum in for repair...Was told it could be fixed by day's end...I said due to obligations I would have to pick it up in about a week, as I lived a ways away...One week later: was told the vacuum needed a part...Two weeks later: part hadn't arrived...Three weeks later: vacuum still not repaired for whatever reason & was told that I would get a call when the vacuum was repaired & could be picked up...Seven weeks later: called to asked about the status of the vacuum, was told it was fixed & could be picked up (& I did)...poor communication, poor customer service & a lack of integrity...I will not go back read more

After numerous years of doing business with Peter, I will not be going back. Since he expanded and took on a partner, I really haven't had a good experience. This is review 1 of 2 visits just this year. I took my mom's vintage Elna to Peter in 2012 (before expansion) to get it running again. He told me he wanted to do everything right so he would take it to his home. He also said it would take some time and I was ok with that as I wasn't sure if it would be breaking the budget. Over the last 3 years, I would check in with him and he'd always say he couldn't find the part. In November 2015, he said he couldn't find the part and he would bring the machine to the shop for me to pick up. As I had a machine on layaway, I didn't rush right in as I knew I'd be there in a month or so. On January 14th, I made a layaway payment but Peter wasn't in to ask about the machine. I let Patrick know I would be back in 2 weeks to pay off the layaway and to let Peter know so he could bring my old machine in. I picked up the new one on the 28th but we didn't discuss my old one as the new machine purchase just became another problem for another review, so I left pretty disgusted. I had to return to the shop the next day as the display on the new one wasn't working. Peter let me know he "found" my old machine and would have someone bring it in (I thought it was at his house?). I asked him what the part was he couldn't find - he couldn't remember. He told me to come back the next Wednesday, February 3rd and he'd have it for me. I went in on the 4th and he walked over to the shelf where there was a case - no machine. My repair tag was on the empty case. He said he couldn't believe someone would bring him an empty case! (again, wasn't it at his house?). He told me to come back in 2 weeks as he was going on vacation. On February 18th, I returned to the shop. Peter wasn't there. I asked Patrick about the machine and showed him where the empty case sat 2 weeks ago. It was still empty. He looked around and found one similar and said, "here it is". I told him that wasn't it as it has the wrong kind of knee control lever. He tried to tell me it was the same but mine was missing the pin. Now mind you, I learned how to sew on that machine 45 years ago and he's going to tell me a bs story like that. When I got edgy, he said I had to wait for Peter who won't be in until next week. (I'm noticing a pattern here). During this visit there was a whole lot that went wrong with the other purchase (again) and I left very angry and told Patrick to let Peter know he better have my machine next week. I'm done with the run around. On February 25th , I returned for everything. Peter brings me the case for my mom's machine. I opened the case and voila, there's it is!! Yay! But wait - the knee lever to run the machine was missing. Peter tells me, "it has been misplaced". He didn't tell me it was missing before I opened the case so it was a good thing I looked before I left! I told him I need it to sew with the machine. He tells me, "if it doesn't run, you don't need it". Exact words. I told him I would get it running with the help from a Facebook group so I need it. Both Peter and Patrick kind of laughed at me. Peter said he'd get a replacement but it would take time (mm hmm, more time). He offered me a machine like my mom's no charge but I didn't want it - I wanted my mom's to run! My Facebook group helped me figure out what was wrong with it and, with their help and a very nice man in Missouri, I was able to locate the elusive part (a very common motor pulley wheel) and a knee control lever in about 15 minutes. On April 4th, I completed the repair, oiled and greased the machine and it runs like new. It took me 37 days from February 25th to get it running. Peter couldn't get it done in 3+ years. I have a full time job and other things to do. OH! And I am an amateur. But I got it running. Long story longer, Peter strung me along for 3+ years because I trusted him and his "knowledge". Never again. I checked with Peter today, 4/6, to see if they had the knee control. He said he had to check with Patrick who wasn't there. I'm seeing a pattern here! And here is a free tip for those of you choosing to do business with him. If you leave something for repair, have a documented inventory of what you are leaving - include pictures. If you buy something (maybe on layaway) and don't pick it up right away, inventory everything in the purchase. There are a lot of things getting "misplaced" at A1. read more

Peter is a fast talking salesman. My suction had slowed down on my house vac. He told me he could hear the bearings going out in the motor and it would cost as much to repair as to buy a new one. He installed the new one which got the same amount of suction. It wasn't my vacuum at all. It was a pipe under the house that had come undone. It cost me $1200 for a new vacuum I didn't even need. Last night, for the second time in a week, I waited for the repair person to show up and fix my central vac like he said he would. He stood me up, for the second time. He had been Johnny on the Spot when he wanted to SELL me the expensive vacuum, but he can't be bothered to come fix the thing when I need him to. He told me my original central vac was "crap" (I agree) and told me the brand he was selling me was great. I have now come to realize that what he sold me is crap too.
