After 50 years of hand quilting, my hands will just no longer allow it. Upon recommendation for several "total strangers" at 2 different fabric stores I thought I would stop by A1, and just check out a couple machines. I left that day with my very first brand new sewing machine, an Elna, because I knew they were good. While talking to Peter and realizing how far behind the times my 50+ year old Elna way, he also showed me the Janome 1500, it was very overwhelming, but nice to know I could trade in the new Elna I just bought at anytime to upgrade to the Janome. I got the new Elna home, used it over the weekend, loved it and was amazed at everything it could do. After 3 days I thought, well if this Elna can do all that, what can the Janome Memory Craft 1500 do? I returned to the store, ( I took the Elna just in case) ...... and left with the Janome. Everyone in the store is so knowledgeable on all the machines. The classes are a huge plus. I would and I have recommend A1 Vacuum & Sewing to several of my friends and family. If you haven't been there, you are really missing out not only on Sewing Machines, but the selection of Vacuums and repair service they offer is top of the line. read more

Peter and Jeanne are wonderful! My first experience at A-1 was a repair on my vacuum. It was an excellent experience and I was impressed with their customer service.. As a result of this service, I had my sewing machine serviced. This was much needed as I did not want to have the service done by the dealer. Each time I went into their store they tried to sell me a new machine. Selling machines is their top priority and I eventually quit going into their shop for anything. I never felt I could run into their shop for a spool of thread or a piece of fabric because I knew I would get pressured to look at a new machine., When I started considering a new machine it was a given that I would purchase a Babylock from A-1. The shopping experience was excellent and I never feel pressured to purchase more than I wanted or needed when I shopped at A-1.. Since learning to sew a few years ago, I have not only purchased a sewing machine and serger, but have referred my family and friends to Peter for his excellent knowledge and the best prices. This is the first time I've ever reviewed a company online. However, these people are amazing! I am new to sewing, and had an issue with my Brother so my husband and I brought it in for repair. The gentleman who runs the shop was SO nice, and fixed it right there in front of me! He didn't even charge me, as it was a minor bobbin issue due to user error. This is above and beyond what he had to do, and it is much appreciated. I will definitely be purchasing here from now on before going online, or to one of the local sewing/hobby/craft stores. I have purchased machines for myself and others. I have been shopping at A1 for as long as it's been in Reno. The reason is the service. Peter is attentive and so are Jeanie and patrick. I haven't found the willngness to explain and genuinely spend time with me until I'm comfortable any where else. The classes after purchase are excellent you aren't limited to 2 or three classes. I have purchased my embroidery machine and have nothing but praise for their integrity and friendly staff. Their classes are great too I have now purchased a vacuum cleaner from A-1 and I have never had any vacuum do such a great job. I have a very hairy Shepard and have no problems getting the carpet clean. They're service is super and everyone is so sweet and personable. Patrick was extremely helpful and educated us in all things vacuums. Came in looking at a Miele but with his help ended up with a less expense Sebo D4 Premium to replace our Dyson. Bought sewing machine with me on getaway to catch-up on some projects during down time. Got material caught in bobbin feed and yanked "OH,Yes I Did". Found A1 in phone book. Got a check up with my repair for one price and was done in hours. Great job , great service and great people. I bought an Elna 760 there and have been very happy. Jeanne, Peter and Patrick are always friendly and helpful. I would recommend that anyone who buys a new machine take a multi week class that teaches you the many things your new machine can do. This gets you used to using different stitches and "feet" on your machine. I was lucky enough to take a class taught by Donna Rash and have learned so much and now have new friends. read more
