Super Bowl 60 Edition: On Super Bowl Sunday over 100 million slices of cheese pizza will be consumed in the USA.Being born and raised in San Francisco there is lots of nostalgia and a lot of changes happening in San Francisco especially going to Downtown San Francisco. It's like times changed and it doesn't look quite the same with the closure of the Westfield Mall there is no more . One place a few blocks away to grab a slice of pizza was Blondies Pizza . This was the spot where both locals and tourist would go by the Powell cable car stop. Today it is no longer there on Powell street. The same owners of Blondies did open a pizza spot a few years ago and it's located a few blocks where the old Blondies is and it's called Abe's. On a Super Bowl stroll on Market street in downtown San Francisco I went to Abe's Pizza. Inside it has vintage Blondie's pizza vibes. I got the pepperoni slice and it as a bit saucy and very cheesy like some in SF. The taste was buttery and savory and the pepperoni was crispy. This tasted like the classic Blondies Pizza I remembered by the cable car turnaround. So the Blondies pizza and the Westfield Mall closed and the Blondies at Stonestown Mall are about to leave and the last place grab a taste of nostalgia when it comes to Blondies Pizza is in Downtown San Francisco pizza at Abe's. Simply put, this pizza is delicious! My friend and I stumbled on this place on our way to a movie and had time to grab a bite first. I went with a simple slice, pepperoni. I ordered on their self service machine or you can also order at the counter. The slice came out fairly quickly and it was crispy, cheesy and I loved the fresh garlic on the crust. Delicious! I think it totally depends on who you get at the register BUT for the most part, it's a pizza spot. I LOVE the Yelp offer here, and it's still a good pizza. Great crispy crust, garlic buttered edge crust and of course you can always add more Parmesan cheese, chili pepper flakes AND if you really like garlic, you can special request the garlic powder they keep on the side. This is the EXACT same pizza you get from Blondie's, for the exact same price with 1 difference...the Yelp app comes through for you here and not at Blondie's. I went here on a Sunday evening and will say that I was pleasantly surprised by this locale. I had passed it from time to time, but had never walked in. Located on Market Street on the same block as the Powell Street BART station, this place boasts a wide variety of pizzas and options on its menu. Heads up that this place does not have indoor seating, so everyone there was standing. I came in to redeem the "check-in" offer where if you check-in, according to the Yelp page, you get a free slice of pizza. The cashier quickly corrected me when I thought that that was the case. He said that the offer is actually a Buy One, Get One (just as a heads up). I think that Abe's (or as the box said Blondie's Pizza, and as I read in reviews) is actually one of the better pizza joints in the city (and I've visited a good number of places here in San Francisco). I was happy with the 2 pepperoni slices that I received. Both were a good size, perfectly crispy and just the right amount of bread to sauce to cheese to topping ratio. I think that this place does hit hard on the price ($7 for a pepperoni slice is much higher, almost 2x the price of other places), but you do get bang for buck on the slice. read more

I have avoided this place for a reason. Due to BLONDIE'S Pizza being shutdown, my sister and I went to Abe's the brother of Blondies. I ordered a medium pepperoni pizza $23, so when I tried to pay 2x with one of my credit cards it declined. So now I hear and see the two Latino guys laughing and speaking in Spanish but mind you I do understand and speak a little regardless of my race (Black). I spoke up and explained i understand everything they were saying and yes I have enough credit cards to pay for my transaction. These two gentlemen thought I was broke due to the location. I felt offended but still paid using a different card, transaction went through. No comment from them. Now my sister is ordering their biggest pizza called the GODZILLA ($47) for her 5 children, the man didn't want to take all her money, which I felt uncomfortable. There going back and forth, she canceled her order. Now he wants to kick her out, hold up we walked in together, she stays and I'm thinking my pizza was in the oven all this time (20 min). I see other pizzas coming out the oven, I inquired how long, but now I'm seeing my pizza go inside the oven. I'm confused and upset at this point, I asked for a refund. In the pizza hierarchy, Abe's lands firming in the middle. It's serves what I believe is it's intended purpose, which is a quick slice of pizza for lunch at a reasonable price. This pizza to me isn't the type to order a whole pizza and take home. It's a very thick crusted, utility grade slices of pizza. With check in on Yelp, you can get a free slice. Also on their website is a lunch deal for one slice of any pizza along with a can soda for $5. I ended up getting a slice of pepperoni and one mushroom. Just FYI, they will charge for the pizza box as well as charge a fee for using a credit card. The employees were very nice people. In SF for work, I despise SF btw. Anyways, I wanted something close to the hotel I was staying at so I did a quick search of what was around me and Abe's Pizza popped up less than a block away. I read the reviews and figured it's just pizza, even bad pizza is usually acceptable so I didn't really have any expectations. When I walked in there were two guys making pizzas behind the counter and specials board offering a slice and a coke for $10.00 being able to find anything to eat in SF for $10.00 or less is nearly impossible. I asked the guy for a slice of pepperoni and a coke to go, their idea of a slice was a as big as a regular pizza, it was huge! And filled a pizza box meant for a small pizza! I got back to my room, cracked opened my coke which was ice cold and opened the pizza box. The smells of that slice with the pepperoni, cheese and sauce was inviting. First bite, wow! That's a tasty slice! Sauce was enough without being too much, very tomatoey and a little spicy, the pepperoni was great and definitely didn't have that fake or weird cheap processed flavor. I'm glad I ordered just one slice and not two as I originally was planning as finishing the one slice was more than enough. Overall, while I try to avoid SF as much as possible, I will definitely be coming back to Abe's the next time I am. read more

Based on the smell alone I KNEW this pizza was going to be delicious, and I was right! Good pizza can be hard to find in SF, and Abe's is probably my new go-to. Everything about the pizza was delicious; the crust was thin but not too thin, the sauce was flavorful and a bit spicy, and the cheese and pepperoni were plentiful. As any native San Franciscan can tell you, a lot has changed. I know there are plenty great slices around but was devastated Blondie's Pizza was gone. It was tradition to grab a big cartoonish slice with the one of a kind pepperonis! I did a little more looking yesterday and it turns out the moved locations from Powell to Market and renamed as Abe's Pizza but everything else has remained the same, down to the slice and soda special and their quirky menus. The staff is just as friendly as ever. They ran out of pepperoni when I got there and a fresh pie was ready in 2-3 min tops so they still have great speedy counter service/super fresh giant slice experience that they were loved for. Definitely skip all the tourist trap food in the area and grab a slice on the way to The Warfield or after a day of shopping. read more

Coming to Abe's was a blast from the past that brought my childhood nostalgia back to life. While it may have a different name, this place is definitely Blondie's pizza. I remember the good old days when I ate Blondie's during the late 90s and early 2000 - 2010s as a must go to place for its vibrant atmosphere and large greasy on Powell Street. It was such a sad day to see this iconic pizzeria shut down in 2016, but seeing the same colors and great taste again brought me absolute joy to my heart. The place is a lot smaller than in the past, but it has the same friendly vibe and delicious smell. The staff workers are lovely people too. However, it seems that there were few people coming in to the place in comparison to it's other location in the Westfield mall food court. Finally a pizza I can completely eat and not have to throw away the crust. The bread and crust wasn't too burnt or crunchy. In fact it almost tasted like I was eating this from a loaf slice of bread. Pepperoni and garlic chicken was delicious and plenty of meat on it. Didn't over do it with the tomato sauce.
