The taste of the espresso itself was just okay, pretty standard and not worth how pricey the drink was. Service was curt and felt unwelcoming. They also don't have non-dairy milk alternatives here... ? Expensive, average coffee with unfriendly service.. there are many other great coffee shops in East Village / Manhattan that are much better, kinder, and satisfying. We came at 11 am on a Saturday. Pretty crowded but not too long of a wait to order. The iced latte is very creamy and the espresso comes through well. Seating is sparse inside but there are some picnic tables set up outside for extra but crowded seating. Iced latte is definitely worth coming back for. read more

Many praise Abraço for its ambiance, its excellent espresso, and its famous olive oil cake. So I had to stop by when I happened to be in the neighborhood. Maybe it's the fact that I'm not a big coffee drinker and don't appreciate the perfectly balanced shots of in-house roasted espresso. Or the fact that I am not East Village (dare I say, ~hipster~?) enough to blend in to this laptop-free, dairy substitute-free, and no WiFi café. Whatever the case may be, my experience at Abraço was not as enthusiastic as others'. I tried the olive oil cake. It was pleasant, but what sugary, baked good isn't? As a big fan of olives, I was hoping for more pungent and pronounced flavors of olives - the fruity, peppery, and bitterness - to shine through. Granted, I went in with a really high expectation, which probably didn't help, but it made me wonder if these mediocre cakes actually deserve all the accolades and mentions. Speaking to some of my friends who adore this place, they recommended the olive oil cookies - supposedly you can taste the olives a bit more. They only accept cash, and I didn't see an ATM within the store either. This inconvenience would personally deter, if not prevent, me from frequenting here. I was told the coffee is also organic, if this is true, then yes everything they serve is organic ,which for someone like me, you will have my loyalty. My latte was fantastic, incredible flavor. They only have a small sign and hard to notice if you are just passing by...but it's really hard not to notice the long waiting line lol. I saw people waiting in line and got curious what they are lining up for. After 1 min search, I found the small sign . TIP: BRING CASH! They only take cash. This adorable coffee shop is so cute and it's bustling among New Yorkers! It's always pretty busy, but there are seating and standing options. I was paying for my cortado when a baker brought out warm, delicious cinnamon buns! It made my mouth water! Everything in the coffee shop is FRESH, which I obviously love. So we went out of our way to try Abraço on the way back to the train stop. You might be wondering if you're a coffee aficionado if you'd be remiss in not going out of your way to try Abraço given the Yelp reviews. As TI famously said to Cardi on Rhythm & Flow, Season 1: "You'll be fiiiine. You'll be FIIIIIINE." It's just a coffee shop, as many others said. It was mentioned in other reviews that they are cash only but they take credit cards now. A gentleman behind us in line asked if there's an online ordering system. Very fair question. There is online ordering available but for everything but the actual beverages from what I saw. Please correct me if I'm wrong. If not, weird flex but ok. If they're trying to generate intrigue through lines or think it's too bourgeois to have online ordering, blahhh, I fell for it! Anyway, I got a cortado and the bf got an espresso macchiato. The cortado was average. The bf said his drink was fine but nothing mind-blowing. Maybe I would have got the hype had I ordered the olive oil cake. I'd like to think if a place is known for their coffee, I should be excited by their coffee first and foremost though. Abraço was fine. It didn't taste too different from Starbucks honestly but I'll be darned if I didn't feel cooler standing out there in line for coffee with everyone in their combat boots. I headed out to Abraço in the East Village on a Sun morning after reading an interview with a prominent Broadway actor the prior night who claimed it had the best coffee in the city. The coffee is impressive and certainly popular, with significant lines of students and others waiting to order (cash only) from a singular counter and bakery display case. The latte had a mild, non-acidic, well balanced smoothness quality to it without being sweet. A good drink that complemented a slice of their banana bread, as I went for something simple. I am very disappointed in this spot because I really liked the vibe when I first walked in. It seemed so cute. My friend and I walked in on a Sunday afternoon, and ordered some beverages and took a seat. It was packed, but seating is first come first serve like in most cafes. After one hour, one of the baristas approached us and said that we need to leave soon to make room as there's several people waiting. He seemed annoyed. We said okay. After 10 minutes, the same barista came back and said, with an angry undertone, "Guys, you need to leave now, there's people waiting." We figured we were being kicked out because we had finished our drinks, but looked around and saw that there were several folks with empty beverages were NOT being kicked out. The barista's behavior towards us seemed unfair and rude. I figured I'd just to buy another drink so that we could keep our table and continue talking, especially because we had only been an hour while others had been there for 2-3 hours or more. I approached the register and the same barista who approached us earlier looked at me with dismay and as if I was one of the world's most hated. I placed my order and he said to me, very rudely, "we're going to seat people with you at this point, and after you drink this you need to go." Threatening to seat others in a small two person booth is so disrespectful on so many levels. How can you say this in a first come first serve cafe to customers who are paying, haven't even stayed very long, and are literally buying more stuff just to be able to talk a little longer? I told the barista that I'm good, don't want the drink, and that we're leaving. I rather sit outside in the cold than deal with these staff again. I've never been treated so poorly, and at a cafe out of all places. We are paying customers, we were kind, and we were like the several others sitting and chatting while we were the only ones threatened to be kicked out, and have others sit in our small booth. This place is really small and gets quite packed. There is no seating, just some counter space. It's more of a grab and go type shop. You will notice many customers enjoying their treats outside the coffee shop. The employees are incredibly friendly and quick. They do a great job preparing your drinks. Their baked goods are equally delicious. The Olive Oil Cake ($3) was soft, slightly sweet and filled with olive oil goodness. We went to this place because of all the reviews. We asked for two iced mochas and they said they cant make it. Since it was 93 degree and there was no place to seat (because of Covid-19) we asked for a hot mochas with separate cups of ice so we can drink our mochas cold but they refused to give me ice! My colleague (who's the coffee freak) discovered this place after experiencing a lot of frustration and despair while trying to find top-notch well-rosted coffee in NYC. Seems like a cute place if you're wanting more than just coffee and want to catch up with a friend hang etc. but maybe my LA is showing with this comment but was pretty surprised they don't offer any alternative milks (only whole milk) ended up getting a black iced coffee and thought it was just ok.
