The worst moving experience I have ever had (and I have had many): The list of failures is staggering: Items were broken, scratched, crushed, or smashed. Boxes were mislabeled to the point of being meaningless. Parts are missing from furniture and other belongings. Multiple lamps and shelves cannot be put back together. A $300 wall clock from Pottery Barn had the hands removed, and the clock mechanism was broken in the process, rendering the clock useless. Entire items cannot be located. My bed sheets and towels were used as packing material. Salt and pepper shakers were packed inside a box labeled "TOOLS." (One example of our inability to find anything, and packers just throwing items into anything they could find.) The truck arrived half-loaded already, leaving insufficient room for our belongings. As a result, items were removed from their original boxes (think Apple products packed in their original packing), items were taken apart, forced in, and crushed together with other items. Our hanging clothes were placed in flat boxes, instead of wardrobe boxes. They did the initial load into an already loaded truck! We had a four bedroom three bath home with office and full basement. Folded clothes were taken out of drawers and thrown into boxes. Our coffee maker was thrown in the laundry basket. We had to buy a new mattress because they folded my son's twin mattress into thirds. My expensive decorative tree was smashed down to a stick. Tools and pictures were packed together. Custom Pelican Case foam was shoved in a wicker outdoor table. Car windshield shades were folded in half. A box of my personal effects was thrown in a box marked "garga toils" - along with some oatmeal. The children's beds were improperly put together, which is incredibly unsafe and a HUGE liability. We were not aware of this until, again, our PROFESSIONAL movers pointed it out to us - that screws were missing and/or stripped. We had to use reinforcement measures when we reassembled the beds in our new home. This company and everyone they partner with are only concerned about getting as much money as possible from your employer. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HELLISH COMPANY. read more

Overpriced and they charged 2,500 per month for storage on top of 25k for relocation package. Then they contract another company to deliver your damage things. Not all but alot. I'm giving two stars (which is really 2.5) because the pack and load in Seattle was 5 stars and the unload and unpack in Southern CA was 1 star, or 0. In WA I felt the crew were great, friendly, careful, considerate. I can't say enough good things. Everything was on time, and I was feeling good that our items would arrive to storage safely. They were stored by ACE as we relocated to SoCal. Upon move in to our home in SoCal the nightmare began. The crew who arrived were mostly unprofessional. Comments were made like, this mattress is very heavy do we have to bring it upstairs to the bedroom? One guy said this was a top 10 worst moves of the year for him because we had too much furniture. The unpack was 1/2 done with NUMEROUS complaints from them about being tired and not wanting to unpack the full house. So much so we just decided to unpack the rest ourselves. They didn't even finish unpacking the items we requested. They also didn't finish putting together the queen bed or hall tree. For the bed he said he couldn't find the hardware, and the driver found it at the bottom of the parts box, then the mover asked if I was going to make him take the bed apart to finish putting it together. The hall tree they said they couldn't put together because they had already packed up their tools, so I passed them my own screwdriver. They would ask what room to take items too and then leave them downstairs or in the garage. When walking through I asked they be moved to the proper rooms, and one guy argued with me saying I never told him the right room in the first place and I was lying about asking to have items put in the upstairs office/loft. They made many jokes about how poorly they packed the crates for storing our items. Jokes about things being tossed in that would fall out as soon as the crate was opened (and they did). Jokes of who packed which one and whose crate was packed the worst. our i We had several damaged and missing items which will now have to go through their process of "deciding if the damage reported would be caused by moving" as I was told. read more

I love ACE relocation services for how well the move was coordinated: from the initial video assessment of my house/belongings, estimate, the packing of the my belongings (2 locations: house and work), the 3rd party service, the transportation of my vehicle across the country, to the unpacking of my belongings at the final destination. We used Ace for packing,storage and moving. Our actual cost came in under the original estimate based on weight. We had paid the final payment upon delivery and after their own review, they issued us a credit (which we would not have known we were entitled to). So they get an A+ for honesty and integrity! This is a update on our moving experience with ACE -- this update describes our experience with Ace in terms of claims. For the entire moving experience, pls see original review. So, after my yelp review was posted, a manager from ACE finally called me -- I think his name was Pete (can't quite remember). Anyway, he was very professional and courteous over the phone and told me that he wanted to make sure our claim process goes smoothly and to call him with any problems. Ok, not bad. Unfortunately, our dealings with Erica (who handled our claims) were less than impressive. My husband dealt with her mostly (he cc:ed me their correspondence). Here's the gist of what transpired: 1) Ace had broken a photo box during the move -- the lid doesn't close properly anymore. Erica said Ace would only reimburse half of the value of the item because it was a "cosmetic" damage. Hmm. Okay. Even though the lid doesn't close anymore. 2) Our floor lamp doesn't turn on anymore. It was working before the move, we changed the light bulb several times, tried different outlets -- still no luck. Erica said Ace would not honor the claim b/c and I quote "we are unable to accept liability for this item due to MCU (mechanical condition unknown). Without external damage to the lamp the damage is considered MCU and is therefore not transit related." So let me get this clear, Ace won't honor claims unless there is an external damage but when there is an external damage (such as in the case of the photo box) it is considered a cosmetic damage and therefore can only be reclaimed at half its value? Let me clarify that we purchase full protection insurance at a premium for our move. After my husband argued the case again with Erica over email and pointed out that we did not even make claims for a dresser which they dented and scratched during the move and for the special cleaning of our mattress which they dirtied because it was transported without proper protection, Ace relented and honored our claims in full. Still overall a very disappointing experience with Ace. I would not recommend this moving company. read more

I've had my fair share of moves over the last 15 years and this move from LA to NYC was the best. Between accepting a new job, selling my car, and all the other things that come with relocating, Ace made the actual moving part of it so easy. Anna and the move coordinators were extraordinary, going the extra mile to provide great service and just "be there" when I needed them. The two guys that showed up to pack (and unpack on the other end) were polite, professional, trustworthy and FAST. In all fairness, I didn't have that much stuff but they were in and out in under two hours on each side. Everything was accounted for and not a thing was broken or bruised. I've had a really bad experience moving with them. Firstly, they showed up about five hours late for pick up without telling me that they would be late. Then they weren't able to move my boxspring out of the house, even though obviously we were able to get it in the house, so I had to buy a new bed. They canceled my delivery appointment two days before their scheduled delivery, so I wasn't able to move in when I planned to move in. They rescheduled for 6pm for two days later, so that I could be there after work. Instead, I got a text from my roommate at 4:30 that they were already there, so I had to leave work early. I didn't receive my bike because they said that they put it on the wrong truck. They wouldn't respond to my email asking when I would receive my bike until after I left a message saying that I would file a claim for the missing bike. Even then, they gave me a very uncertain response. They gave me an update of a date when they could tell me an actual date they would drop off my bike. It is now after that date and I still have no idea when I'm getting the bike. read more

I've used these guys twice for cross country moves so I know whereof I speak, this company is great. They work in conjunction with Atlas, the big moving company. I've worked with Susan M. twice - once from Long Beach to Chicago and then Chicago to D.C.. They really bend over backwards to try to make the process as easy and painless as possible. I used the packing services on the second move and was very happy about the job done, the speed and thoroughness. I will can definitely say how happy I am with their service and professionalism. Susan worked with me to find the best possible delivery window. And I heaved another big sigh of relief when the truck pulled away - all my stuff arrived just fine. I've moved more than I've really cared to in the last 10 years - from Los Angeles to the Washington, DC area and back, and most recently from Los Angeles to the SF Bay Area. I moved with Ace Relocation the first time because my company used them, but I moved with them the following two times based on my previous experience. I can't say enough good things about the customer service. From the initial estimate (which usually met or beat anyone else) to the actual move itself and delivery, I had someone I could contact with any questions or concerns via email or landlline/mobile. Let's face it...moving is incredibly stressful and the last thing anyone needs is more anxiety about the process. Whether they packed me - or in the one case I packed myself - I had full confidence everything would arrive safely intact. In one case one of my boxes took a detour to London and Ace did everything they could to locate and then ship the box to me. The movers did a fantastic job in packing - I've never had anything broken or messed up - and were beyond (almost scary) fast in terms of loading up my stuff and unloading the delivery. I really hope I don't have to move again anytime soon, but if I do I would absolutely have Ace Relocation move me again. I've already recommended them to a friend of mine who had a great experience with a move across country, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone else. read more

Larry Buckle from Ace moved me a few weeks back based on a referral from a friend. They did a great job and I would highly recommend using them. They came in well under the quoted price and boxed up some stuff for me. Larry projected about 8 hours but I helped the movers and they were able to complete the move in 4.5 hours. They bill you a not to exceed number and refund you if they do it quicker. Its the best of both worlds. Before the move, they gave me a stack of used moving boxes so I didn't have to buy them and after the move they just asked me to return all the moving blankets that they used so I didn't have to unpack and unwrap everything that day. 2 things to realize, they charge the projected cost upfront and then refund you if they did it quicker than expected. Also, they may box up smaller items for you during the move, nothing is missing, it is just boxed up. Definitely call Larry 562-254-4932 if you need moved. read more

edit: when I wrote this I was frustrated because I thought they lost our couch. They actually ended up finding it and bringing it to our place the next day. Also they ended up reimbursing us and paying our rent and food for the weeks they were late. So they made a few mistakes but they really actually seemed to care about making it right. I've had moving companies who didn't care at all and Ace did. I suggest them! Are you looking for movers who will lose your stuff? Who will break your stuff? Who will move your broken and lost stuff much later than promised in your "binding contract" at a higher price than other companies? If so Ace Relocation Systems is for you! Facts about our recently completed move: -They lost half our sectional, recliner, and entry table. The sheer incompetence of this is actually kind of impressive (how do you lose a couch?). -They broke our coffee table. -They delivered it 50% later than promised in our "binding contract" -Their costs were much higher than other companies estimates but we went with them because of the reviews and the notion that higher cost would lead to higher quality service. We went with Ace because of the good reviews despite the higher cost. Stay away. They are just as bad as the other companies who will move your stuff much cheaper. I looked so long and hard for a mover. Read reviews, websites, even reports from the government (they regulate out-of-state moves). I thought I had it figured out. Their story sounded good. Everything (each box, piece of furniture, etc.) was supposed to be numbered, and you checked it off as it came in. What they didn't say was, if one (or three) of the numbered boxes are missing, too bad for you. I mean, I guess I can apply for some kind of compensation, but I don't want that. I want my stuff. Who even remembers everything that was in each box -- it's just when you have finished unpacking and you realize you can't find the music box your grandfather gave you 30 years ago that you think, "Oh, that must have been in one of the missing boxes." The driver also unpacked several of my boxes as they were loading (without my permission) so he could fit things into tiny corners, etc. Even though we came in at about the estimated weight, the truck had been overbooked and he seemed desperate to reduce the size of the load. All that stuff was delivered without numbers, so who knows what else might be gone? When they were finished delivering everything, and we were wrapping up the paperwork, my husband went out to the truck to check on things. He found a large bin, a box and my mom's antique cabinet sewing machine, all almost lost under a pile of moving pads. Thank goodness he went out and looked, or I would have six missing items instead of three. Here's my advice to you. Use a container service (like Pods) for your boxes. You pack the boxes, they should be easy to move into the pod, stack up, you lock it, it all gets to you. Use the movers for your furniture. read more

Do not use Ace! They overpromise and underdeliver, and once they have your business, getting them to fulfill their contract and give information to you is like prying a bone from a dog's mouth. The miscommunication started before we even moved, with mistakes in the contract sent to us. We were originally told one crew would pack up our stuff one day and another would move it out the next day, but a crew came on the first day and hauled away everything -- and in the middle of them moving it, I got a phone call from another driver saying they were coming by in the morning to take our stuff. Then, despite getting a written promise of a 2-12 day delivery window, our stuff took a MONTH to get to us -- and during the entire time, no one told us anything (we had to keep pestering them and got 1 call back for every 4 phone calls we made) and our Ace coordinator lied to us and blamed it on their parent, Atlas Van Lines... after we called Atlas' national office to complain, we were told that the Ace coordinator waited until literally the day before the move to put in a last-minute request for a driver that was rejected because there was no one available. When our stuff finally did arrive, every piece of furniture was scratched, despite having survived previous moves unscathed. And the miscommunication continued even during the delivery, when the Ace office frantically called us to say the drivers had arrived but no one was at home -- despite the fact that the drivers were almost done unloading all of our stuff and told us they never called Ace. Additionally, we paid for a complete pack and unpack, only to find out as our stuff was being unloaded that the "unpack" we paid for meant they took the mattresses out of the boxes, that's all. When we sent a complaint letter to Ace and Atlas, the Atlas person gave us a polite brushoff and the Ace guy never even responded. Apparently, once they have your money, they don't care about anything to do with serving you as a customer. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! I'll always make it a point to steer military folks and other family and friends from using this company. This company let us down and did us wrong! After a long and tedious claims process, there was a settlement. Unfortunately, it was a lose-win situation, with us being the losers and them keeping our possessions (they claim our boxes were probably accidentally given to another moving customer). The organization and work ethic of this company turned out to be substandard and unacceptable. SEVEN of our boxes were "lost" (if not stolen). Many of the items were replaceable (although we still were not given enough money in the settlement to replace them). Many of our items did not have monetary value: * My sister lost (if not stolen) EVERYTHING she owned!! * Military coins/awards that I had received from various officers and sergeants over the past 12 years of my Army career were lost (if not stolen). o Our wedding pictures (we were married in Iraq while serving in the Army). This company offered to pay less than 1/2 of what the items cost. Be Aware of what you are signing and what their policies/insurance will cover if your items are lost or damaged. Note: It does not make sense to compensate a customer $6 per pound if items are small and don't weigh much. Also, they don't weigh boxes in inventory, so how can they know exactly how much a box weighs once it's lost???? This is a shady practice that many companies use. Thank goodness for USAA. They recommended I keep paying my renter's insurance (previously lived in an apt.) until the move was complete. USAA is a company with integrity and really takes care of its customers. They picked up the slack for ACE Relocation Services. Loyal USAA customers. read more

Worst moving packers ever! This is my 5th move with the military and the worst. They packed and moved me from LA to DC. Had several items broken and not packed correctly. They even tried to repair a table they damaged at some point along the way by gluing the wood back on and sucking rubber bands to hold it. Worst part, when the packers came, they didnt have enough materials and skimped on the padding. Therefore items were broke upon arrival. The ACE guys who delivered my items in DC even made comments that the people who packed on the Long Beach side did a bad job. They could tell as they unwrapped things. If you have a choice, do not use ACE Long Beach, period. Go to another moving company. Putting in 6 claims with the government now to get reimbursed for broken items. read more

Avoid at all costs!!! They will give you an estimate, tell you they'll likely come in way under the estimate and then somehow find away to take way longer than their initial estimate. I was given an initial estimate of 8 hours, but told it likely wouldn't take more than 6. I moved a two bedroom apt literally half a mile down the block and it took 3 movers 11 HOURS to complete the move (and it cost me nearly $2K)!!! They took their sweet ass time, and then left boxes that were clearly marked with their proper destinations in whatever rooms were most convenient for them. On top of that the order form showed that the movers needed to take apart and reassemble a bed and crib and they showed up with no power tools! So one mover spent the entire day taking apart and putting together furniture with a hand held screw driver. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, I called to voice my frustrations and complaints and was essentially ignored with no attempt to make things right. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! I've moved 7 times in the past 11 years and this was far and away the worst experience I've ever had. You'd be better off using starving students or picking up guys at Home Depot. I'm not kidding. They'll get it done quicker and a hell of a lot cheaper. Moving is stressful enough. Don't add to that stress by using Ace. Trust me. read more

We moved from LA to Denver and had a terrible experience with Ace. We went with the company based on their excellent reviews, promise that they haul 90% of their shipments themselves and promise that customer service is their number one priority. I can tell you none of this is true. Our belongings arrived 2 weeks past the written arrival spread, which was extremely upsetting and frustrating. This was because Ace could not haul our shipment, and left it until the last minute to find a driver. They did not let us know. They offered no apologies or discounts for the delay. In fact, we had to call them 3 or 4 times to get a call back. They were dismissive and deceitful as to the details of our shipment. Do not be fooled by the positive reviews. This company over promises and under delivers. read more

I will never use Ace Relocation again. It was one of 3 choices from a bidding agency middleman, and the price was most reasonable so I went with them for my move from LA to Seattle. Wrong decision. Why? Lack of communication and damaged/missing items from the move due to sloppiness and an overly rushed mindset among the movers themselves. First, there are too many people handling different components of the move that no one actually claims full responsibility for anything when there is a problem. Expect to speak to at least 3 different offices, with multiple people at each office, repeating the same information to each. These 3 offices are in different geographies and do not communicate with each other, leading to an extremely inefficient process. There's the main office in Phoenix. Then there are the folks at your origin office and destination office. Levels of courtesy and professionalism vary from individual to individual -- for the most part they at least sound competent, except for Kim L. at the Phoenix office, who was completely unhelpful over the phone when I asked for a cost and delivery estimate while my items had been in transit for several days. She made it sound like I was completely unreasonable to ask about how much a service would cost and how long it would take -- this being AFTER all my stuff was in their hands. She had zero answers for me, so I bumped up to her manager Jessica G. who was more helpful. Probably the only reason why this isn't a 1-star review is because of a few nice folks like her who were willing to try to fix problems instead of trying to pass them on as not their problem. The movers themselves were friendly but were too rushed at origin (they said they wanted to beat rush-hour traffic, apparently at the expense of my belongings) and disorganized leading to damaged/lost items. Now six weeks post-move, I am still waiting for a claims process to get going on missing screws from a disassembled bookshelf that lies on the floor useless because the movers lost the assembly items in transit. I understand occasionally things get misplaced, but to drop the ball on following up to either fix the problem or compensate or replace the item is bad customer service. I've called and emailed multiple times, only to hear false promises with no true delivery. Other furniture came damaged also and I filed claims for each. I got tired of waiting so just got them replaced or fixed myself (wooden feet on sofa, bed frame supports, dresser). I highly discourage anyone from using their services. read more

I upgraded Ace to a 2 from my 1 based on my experience with their loss/damage and claims team and process. However, it must be mentioned that their claims process is conducted through their parent, Atlas Van Lines, so this may be more of a reflection of Atlas than on Ace. While they were unable to recover the lost boxes (which is still so frustrating!), we were reasonably compensated for the lost and damaged goods. We were also compensated fairly for the significant stay in the hotel due to their delay. The claims process was not a hassle at all and was (surprisingly) very stress free. It just took some time (about two months from date of delivery), which I expected. read more

This is the third time we have used Ace Relocation for a big move and we would never use anyone else. The drivers and workers are careful, they are punctual, they are polite. The office staff is very responsive. We have never had anything damaged and we're talking a full 4 bedroom house with 35+ years of STUFF. Moving is expensive no matter who you use, so we choose to use someone who takes good care of our STUFF, shows up on time and acts like they value our business. This move was a relatively short (100 miles) one out of storage into our house. The estimate turned out to be about 10% high and we got a credit two days later for the difference, without having to ask. Anyhow, we don't want to ever move again, getting too old. But if we do, and it isn't into a plot, we would use Ace Relocation again. read more

Update on initial review. All the above was legit and that's why I can't give them anything higher than a 4 or 5 stars. The estimated delivery was to be on Thursday. When I asked if they were sure about this so I could call off work, they couldn't guarantee it. Rather than taking off a day at work and risk them not showing up, I asked them what my options were. They told me they could store the furniture at a local warehouse and have it delivered by local movers for Saturday. Total EXTRA charge: $460. Furniture got there in there in good shape and reassembled. If you can find someone that can receive the delivery, you shouldn't have an issue with these guys. If not, you may want to do some research. read more

Just moved from LA to Portland, and used these guys. Service was excellent end-to-end. You really get what you pay for! Absolutely everything was moved perfectly -- nothing broken or scratched what so ever. Communication was top notch as my move coordinator was always available and gave me constant updates. Honestly after hearing so many people's stories about nightmares, I was expecting there were no good movers out there. I recently moved from Los Angeles to Nashville. The folks at Ace and at Atlas Van Lines took great care of me from start to finish. Anna Armstrong, my Ace agent, was so clear and helpful and even (this is not a guarantee she'll be able to do this for all her customers) set me up with most of the packing supplies I needed (she grabbed them from a recent commercial move job she'd handled). The movers themselves on both ends were prompt and courteous. I appreciated how everyone kept me well-informed at all times (the truck driver even called me a couple of days before the anticipated delivery date because he'd been caught in a blizzard; he wanted to let me know he'd be late). After writing my initial review, I was contacted again by my claim agent. He offered to pay for the estimate that was required. After going through the rest of the process and getting the estimate, we came to an acceptable solution for both parties involved. The initial claim process was arduous. After I had voiced displeasure, the tone and speed of the process was great improved. I would still be wary of moving your expensive electronics, but you will probably run into that with any moving company. read more
