This is tough. Have you ever wanted to like a place so badly but you just couldn't? This is that place for me. I love shipping containers. Shipping container homes, Shipping container shops, shipping container bars. So, I wanted to love this place. It is a collection of shipping containers that make up a little complex of sorts. One is the coffee shop and there is another set that is the bar and its adjoining large patio. First off, cool super low key setup. large patio and a bunch of seating. Probably ideal in the summer. First trip, in the evening. Its fall so they are getting ready to close down the bar for the winter. Just a few folks out on the deck enjoying the last of the sunshine. I took a seat at the bar. One girl working when I sat down she was tending the bar, the deck, and running over and serving drive up and walk in guests at the coffee container. She was doing a great job considering it was just her and one other in the kitchen. She was super friendly and up beat, gave me some info on a couple of the local beers they had on tap. I ordered a local IPA and the fish and chips. The beer was good and the fish and chips were pretty good but it was literally a basket of fries with four little tiny pieces of fish on top. I don't usually like to complain about portion size because we could all stand a little less on our plates but this seemed silly. The pieces looked more like the bits that fall off a larger piece of fish than the main attraction. A bit heavily battered but the taste was fine. Just not much to eat. I would stop in again to grab a beer or maybe a coffee some time but I won't make it a point to return. Not going to bother with the food unless I want some fries. read more

Went here to grab some tea and a snack. Enjoyed sitting on the patio. Tea was good but there was too little guac provided with the chips and we would have been charged if we wanted more. Had to chase down our server to get our bill after waiting around 30 mins. We might try here again because other food items might have been good but service was lacking. read more

While this was a cute little place with very happy and welcoming employees, it was slow! It was on Easter that we went, however they were not super busy, as it was before the post church rush. However, they did have a new hire training, which can significantly slow down an operation. We got the Alaska Burrito and the Bacon burrito. They were pre-made, which is completely fine, however it was microwaved into a soggy mess. Slapping it on the griddle for a couple minutes would have vastly improved the texture, which was mostly just mush. However, the coffee was very well done! Service is prompt and friendly. It's a unique setup with enough space for a small line and a few eat-in customers. I've had hot drinks multiple times and they were good. I tried the halibut fish and chips and it was quite the disappointment. The fried fish was HEAVILY breaded and there was very little fish. I have come to this place a few times before without incident. This morning I waited over 20 minutes for the barista to casually and slowly make 2 small coffees of some kind for the 2 cars in front of me, spend the rest of her time ignoring customers who aren't male and not doing her job. I ordered the following: 1 small half caf nonfat white mocha 1 small BACON burrito, uncooked What I received: Spit infused Americano that is loaded with at least 5 full caffeine shots (I'm pregnant, so thanks for the shakes and BP spike, jerks) a "we're out of ham" AND a burned hand when the barista basically threw my coffee at me and then wouldn't give me a paper towel to wipe down the inside AND outside of my car and my burned hand. She also didn't give me a receipt and thought it was funny. I've heard that they are nothing more than an overpriced tourist trap and now I know that's exactly what they are, other than the fact that apparently they have no problem assaulting customers by burning them and intentionally over caffeinating pregnant women. If I have to go to the doctor because my heart rate won't quit, you best believe I'll be contacting the press and my attorney. Don't waste your time or money at this place, especially since my credit card was just overcharged. When he finally came to get my order, I decided just to get the redbull since the service wasn't promising... I told him what flavors I wanted and he just stared at me. This place is great! We visit from Texas and have been here 3 times now, the first two times I had gotten the reindeer dogs which are pretty good. The third time I tried to get the dogs we were told they aren't on the menu anymore, only on special occasions. You'll be in line for 20-30 minutes. Not a good set up. It's a drive thru coffee place but they also serve food from a kitchen in there like a restaurant that is in the parking lot. So if someone orders food in front of you you will wait forever for just a cup of coffee. The breakfast burrito I had was incredibly salty not very good. The coffee is just a'ight. We were "passing through" town as part of a cruise and pulled into Anchorage fairly late on a Sunday night. I pulled up Yelp and search for a nearby restaurant that was rated decently and within walking distance and, most importantly, open. There were very few choices and thank God this was one of them! We laughed when we realized it was a Tex-Mex place. Being from Texas, the last place we really wanted to eat while on vacation in Alaska was a place that served our native food. We were not however disappointed! Everybody raved that their dinners were fantastic. I can speak for the reindeer nachos. The reindeer was absolutely amazing with a perfect blend of flavor and spice. The queso and shredded cheese were a perfect blend as well. You will be sitting outside, on a patio, but the atmosphere is fun and the service was beyond friendly and inviting! I was extremely excited to try this place. Was hoping it would be like the food trucks I've eaten at in L.A., San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle. It had great reviews, the place looks cool, and I was craving fish tacos. Unfortunately, this was yet another case of AK YELP letting me down. I had the halibut tacos and my husband had the carne asada tacos. I love fish tacos, but these were dry and bland. Looking at them, there was no sauce! My husband lamented the same thing about his. I was also expecting the double corn tortillas, not single flour ones. The rice was dry or maybe old - it was crispy in some parts. The beans were straight out of the can. And we spent over $30 for the two of us. I am SO TIRED of hearing that that's just the price of living in Alaska. Uh, no it's not. After I left AK, I moved to cities that have much HIGHER costs of living, the last being Hawaii. Even in Hawaii, you can get lots of cheap eats that are really good! In Hawaii, electricity is over 2X as expensive, housing is 3-4X as expensive, and they get most of their food shipped in. We can do better, Alaska - don't accept mediocre food at high prices as being typical, or even good. This place has so much potential. It just needs to make better food and lower the cost. It looks like they spent more time and effort on the building, than on their chefs. I will admit when going there initially I was expecting to have a place to sit inside.The beer garden has a nice sitting area but its just a bit to cold once summer leaves Anchorage to want to sit outside. However I was also expecting them to only have Coffee, not Italian sodas so that was a nice surprise. I got a red bull peach coconut soda and my boyfriend got a dirty chai. We finished both of our drinks before we got the food but that's because they were delicious. We got halibut, carne and a taco in a bag, but they were out of chips, so just gave us reindeer tacos instead. score for us! AK Alchemist is a splendid experience if you're looking for a restaurant with an eccentric blend of Alaskan cuisine. I was amused by the apparent amalgamation of foods one can find just below the border -- south of Texas that is. I'm not fond of coffee trailers but came here with the family after reading all the great reviews and ordered food and white chocolate mocha. The food was amazing! And the white choc mocha was stronger than what I've had before and less sweet, to me perfect!!
