Had reservation for 730pm on a Saturday night. Place was empty. We were sat in the back after numerous stares from employees w/o smiles!!?? Were we too late to eat there? Table was dirty with crumbs,and stains from last customer. Waited 14 minutes for waiter who never smiled. He brought menus, and then water.......warm, water??!!! After another 15 minutes, we ordered. Ordered a pasta dish, and a pizza. Waiter brought basket of bread...exactly 3 slices of cold, hard bread that it seemed like he got from another table.(really!!) (yuk). Waited 40 minutes for pizza, and dish.(forty!) Pizza was absolutely the worst we have ever experienced! Very small, with no cheese(none!), yet 50% crust !! (more bread?) Pasta was warm and flavorless. Insects and flies on or around our table. Water served was warm(room temp) again. We left without leaving tip, never to go back again! . We were highly disappointed with the Alder Wood Bistro, especially after how highly it was recommended by everyone we met in Sequim. The wine that was recommended was pretty poor (first bottle was corked, which they can't do much about, but they didn't have any other bottles chilled. They ended up substituting a different wine, which while not corked just tasted bad, and they also charged us for the more expensive bottle). The entree itself was cedar-planked salmon, but they unfortunately overcooked the salmon until it was dry and flavorless, and the heavy risotto they piled on top overpowered everything. Ultimately it was a big let-down, and poor value for the relatively high price. read more

Best restaurant I can find in Sequim. Really good hearty soup (split pea with ham hocks was a favorite) and delicious delicate fish and chips with slaw that I would eat by itself. Beet salad and their house made bread were both great. Loved it all the way around. read more

Nice people, but the pizza was super "eh" and super tiny. We ordered wild mushroom and heirloom tomato pizzas. Over $40 later we were starving and had to go get more food at another place. I enjoy a good gourmet pizza and don't mind spending extra for it, but this pizza did not satisfy anyone's taste buds or hunger. read more

I often travel to Victoria BC. When I pass through Sequim on the Olympic peninsula I always stop at the Alderwood Bistro. The chef there, Gabriel, is an absolute magician in the galley. His food is creative and absolutely delicious. I am never disappointed. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Alderwood Bistro. Every dish from hors d'oeuvres to dessert is unique. The only problem for me is that this restaurant spoils all the other restaurants that I frequent. read more

After reading the reviews, I was so excited to eat at the Alderwood Bistro, but what a huge disappointment. I wanted to start with a salad, but what I got was a small plate of lettuce for $7.00, that was the "salad" I ordered the chicken which came with corn, however, there wasn't a side of corn, there was just a wee bit of corn sprinkled over the dinner. hmmm. My ice tea was room temperature, I wanted some ice, but the server was too busy to check on us. Not once did we see her after she brought our food. I was still hungry when we left. read more

Nice little restaurant right off the main street in Sequim. They have a relatively small menu but are very creative with their offerings and they definitely take advantage of the local ingredients. Truly one of the worst meals I have had in years. Whie the fried oysters were good and it doesn't take much to make fried oysters, the meat loaf entree was worse than the worst nursing home/hospital/school cafeteria food I have ever had. The meat loaf had no texture, tasted only of salt, and was dried out and a horrible brown color. The gravy tasted like it was from a bottle. A good meatloaf is not that difficult to make and for the price of the entree I should have stayed home and invited six people over to have a much better meal. Next time I want meatloaf, that is what I will do or just go to Traylors in Port Angeles where the food is much better and less expensive. My partner had the steak frites for $25. While it was at least edible compared to the meat loaf, for $25 the steak should be special in a small town like Sequim where it is not difficult to get organically raised beef and vegetables. There is no reason to go to Alder Wood for a steak when you can get a better flat iron steak at Traylors for $13 that actually tastes better. My partner's second glass of wine was full of sediment and therefore not very appealing. I do not drink wine and having to see the glass with the sediment was very unappetizing. Our waiter was completely spaced out. We were served a bread basket of what was billed as bread so special that we would want to purchase a loaf to take home. The two slices of bread in the basket were tough, fairly flavorless, and accompanied by a hummos spread that was tasty enough but there was barely enough to spread on two half slices of bread. A comment card was placed in the folder with the check. My partner actually filled it out with many of the same comments I have posted. I observed the waiter reading the comments before bring the credit card receipt back for signature. He did not acknowledge the very negative comments. We were not looking for any mark down on the bill, didn't want a free dessert, or anything else that would have cost the restaurant anything but some acknowledgement that there were two very displeased customers would have been appropriate. read more

the Alder Wood Bistro is going to be the best food you'll get in sequim and port angeles. it might be the best food you'll get on the olympic peninsula. some reviewers say that the Alder Wood Bistro is expensive and you'll be paying "seattle prices"... whatever the hell that means. fact is: it's local, basically entirely organic, magnificently prepared and well-seasoned food. additionally, the owners are completely marvelous -- Gabe and Jess are some of the most lovely people you will ever meet. they make a point to travel for the majority of january to not only take some time for themselves (which is important!) but to also give them ideas to expand their menu. i've eaten nearly everything on the menu and it's all delicious. i'm glad to be visiting soon because now that i'm eating red meat again i will do my best to sample all things beef. also, if the apple pie is on the dessert menu do yourself a favor and get it. read more

This restaurant was okay and nothing special. Went on a Saturday, right when it opened. We ordered the special focaccia pizza, calamari, veggie panini, and the special moules et frites. The foccacia pizza was decent. It had a good amount of cheese, cherry tomato and scallions. It also came with a side salad. The calamari was also okay. I will note that it was cooked perfectly and was not chewy. The panini was again also okay. It was just a typical veggie panini. The fries were decent and more on the thinner side. The special moules et frites was good though! It came with chorizo and chickpeas. The sauce it was cooked it was similar to a coconut curry. Despite arriving there when it opened, the service was really slow. It took a while for us to just place our order, took awhile for the food to come, and took a while for the bill to come. The staff was super friendly, just slow. Overall food was okay and nothing special. read more

What a gem! Very fresh local foods with special flair from a Chef. Had the seasonal antipasti, not at all like the oily, heavy on meats. Every bite was exquisitely tasty. Got in from Port Townsend on short notice on a cold December night. The very nice wine list was well appreciated. My wife tried the house Chardonnay and was disappointed so they happily substituted another choice - one of the special pours for the evening - that was delightful. The bread and hummus starter was excellent and the food that followed was great. Their pizza crust is among the best we've had - thin, flaky and neither crisp nor chewy. The special entree of cedar plank salmon with duck confit was really excellent. In a land of overabundance of salmon dishes, this one stands out. The service was exemplary, even though they were operating short-handed. Danielle handled it as if it was not a problem at all. We were sorely tempted by the incredible looking apple pie but were able to resist - this time. All-in-all a really nice little place and worth a drive to try it out. read more

So good. So very good. We come here every summer when back in Sequim. It never disappoints. The salmon is always perfect. New to the menu- the mushroom Wellington is AMAZING! The mussels served in broth and the smoked salmon carbonara sauce were each distinct and wonderfully seasoned. The hummus appetizer, served with two types of bread, ranked among the best we have ever tasted and had a combination of seasoning that made it singularly delicious. We dined outside amid amid a well tended landscape. Each member of the staff was exceedingly receptive to our needs. We will remember the quality and pleasure of this meal for the rest of our lives. I was enchanted by the Alder Wood Grill. Each course shimmered with wonderful flavor and a sure eye for the beauty of the food. After the wonderful sourdough bread, the special calamari salad really rocked my world. The dressing was light and yet very flavorful. Kaffir lime leaves were an essential component, we were told by the amiable chef. He and his beautiful wife have created this lovely local gem and you can feel their devotion to their town, their neighbors and the beautiful food that grows all around them in Sequim. My boyfriend and I ate here a month ago when we were starting our vacation on the Peninsula. And we're still talking about how amazing our dinner was. Truly, it might be one of the top five meals I've ever had in my life. Truly. And to top it off, the service was amazing. Tonya (yes, I remember her name!) offered me her sweatshirt when she saw I was cold and then proceeded to give us all the local advice on what to see in the park. Do yourself a favor: come eat here (call for a reservation if possible), let the servers help you choose what to eat, and DON'T worry about the price. Very nice place. A house converted to a cozy and cute bistro. The food was great as the menu sports a lot of organic stuff. I had the grass fed beef burger and it was a hit. Portions are more european, meaning you will not go into a food coma if you finish your plate and although on the pricey side, we enjoyed it. make sure to sit in the backyard. read more

The atmosphere is very lovely with a local flora to greet you outside. We arrived late on a Friday night as we were passing through Sequim. Because there was no seating and it was late we chose the natural wood cut counter. Our food took 40 minutes to arrive, which was a little long, but both our dishes were baked and we were on the heels of a full house of orders. The beet salad was an outstanding blend of flavors. We will return next time we are passing through. I would probably say this is borderline a $$$ - three dollar sign stop. This restaurant is the best I have had in sequim. Excellent food, don't let the location put you off. We stared with the local cheese plate - not really a cheese plate, more of a warm salad with cheese shavings. The flavors were excellent though, with great beets and an incredible pan sauce, I had the porchetta, which was local, fat and perfectly cooked, served with a bitterish veg - rapini or some sort. Both were excellent. The pickled onions were a bit odd. My wife had the risotto, which had great flavor, but was a bit too toothy. Dessert was Apple pie, which was just what it sounds like - but I had an amazing local black currant brandy. The wine list is robust and1 well curated. The beer list is weak, given you are in WA state. Overall, some incredible food moments. read more

Alder Wood Bistro was recommended to us when a friend heard we were going to the Lavender Festival. We had the best meal out in years there, and have gone back for the past 2 festivals and each time was fantastic. Wonderful, delicious food locally and organically sourced, served by charming waitstaff in a nice but unpretentious setting and not dramatically overpriced. As a Seattle resident, those qualities can be pretty hard to come by all under one roof, which makes our experiences at Alder Wood Bistro in Sequim all the more memorable. read more

I am giving this five stars because not only was it really good, but everything is fresh, organic and locally sourced; an amazing combination! Definitely call ahead for seating. We ordered the calamari salad, which was incredible and had great flavor. We followed that with a mushroom flat-bread with an egg on top that was delicious. We finished with their signature fresh fish on a cedar plank. I actually enjoyed the vegetables that came with the entree so much that I ordered another side of vegetables just for myself. The owner was very attentive. However the server (there was only one)was terrible! Regardless of food quality, be prepared for selective service. We watched as some tables received excellent, prompt service. Others (especially with kids) were patently ignored. If you believe dining should be an experience, I can't recommend. Prepared with love and care the Slow Food way, with fresh local ingredients. The wines are lovely, the service rocks, and the ambiance is classy. For many years this was the one thing that was sorely missing from our beautiful little community. Service was excellent, we had a group of seven people and all of the food was timed perfectly. Food was fresh and tasty. I like the fact that the food is locally sourced. You might want to make reservations because they had a consistent flow of people coming in. This a charming place with amazing food and service. we spent about an hour and a half there having dinner. all of there ingredients are of the highest quality and local when possible. Alder Wood is a gem. It was well worth our boat ride from the San Juans. The wood-fired mussels were fantastic and only paled to the pickled beet salad. They make their own sausage which rivaled the fresh chorizos I've enjoyed in Teruel and Valladolid. The commitment to fresh, local ingredients is evident in the flavors. Keep your eye on these guys as they evolve. This is one of my favorite restaurants world wide. read more
