Pretty minimal on the inside. Tons of gluten free (but not vegan) donut options. I think this place is kinda cute and it's located along the main st area. I stopped by Alfafa to try their iced matcha latte. I would say that the latte has too much oat milk and honey, I couldnt taste the matcha at all sadly. And I only ordered this one, it took me so long to get my order. Looks like they messed up a lot of people's orders too. I witnessed one customer calmly raging and walked out saying he "not gonna come back again." Woops! Finally stopped by to try this spot for my morning beach walk! Tried the breakfast burrito, the eggs were really fluffy and had peppers and 2 kinds of cheese, manchego and queso oaxaca and I love queso oaxaca. The burrito came with tomatillo and spicy salsas which were really good and complimented the burrito well! So happy to have found this spot during my visit to Santa Monica! Needed a quick but delicious bite to eat and Alfalfa was exactly that! There was a bit of a line, so we ordered from the self-checkout kiosk (great option!) and did not have to wait long for our food at all. I have been craving a salad after eating unhealthy for the last few days, but was disappointed with the ones here. We ordered several salads -- Buffalo Goddess, Greek, and West Coast -- and none had alfalfa in them. All our salads were filled with lettuce only (1 star off) and way over-dressed (1 star off). Unfortunately, after opening the salads at home, the lettuce were already soggy after about 15 minutes (1 star off). FYI Goat cheese is the only available cheese, so for someone like me who does not like goat cheese, my only option was to leave it out. The place looked cute. The Peruvian chicken salad is easily one of my top 5 go to salads in the greater LA county and the chorizo breakfast burrito is a wonderful way to start your day. I took both items to go and they were still fresh and incredibly tasty even hours later. The restaurant has an outdoor dining patio out back that's conducive to social distancing and soaking up that Santa Monica sunshine! And honestly it is quite a gem and my preferred salad place (even over sweetgreen!) This time I came back to try the Santa Monica Sunrise salad they have with Paige Lindgren from TikTok. I was so excited when I saw this collaboration because I knew Alfalfa and followed Paige's TikTok journey to find the best salad in LA separately. So I knew this salad genuinely had to be delicious and I was definitely not let down! The ripe mangoes added a slight sweet element with the creaminess of the avocado and balanced well with the savory-ness of the red pepper whipped feta. I ate it so fast I... didn't even take a picture! (Next time hahaa) I also got the Bone Broth (large) and let me tell you this was one of the best bone broths I have ever tasted. I could tell it was stewed with plenty of vegetables and herbs that just added such a beautiful dimension to it. The hot broth was such a nice pairing with the salad. And honestly I have to give a shout out to the staff. Every time I have been here, they have been the most friendly people I have ever encountered. Working in the service industry is not the easiest sometimes but they always have a happy smile on their face and have such an upbeat positive attitude. I appreciate them always being welcoming!! I'm constantly on the hunt for better breakfast burritos across Los Angeles, and Alfalfa has brought a unique new contender into the mix that's worth your visit. Star 1: How was the Service and Atmosphere? You'd be hard pressed to find a better location in SM than what Alfalfa has locked down. Right in the midst of everything with abundant outdoor dining space and a cute little shop inside with super friendly folks behind the counter. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? It almost feels weird to say it, but I was surprised, very surprised, to be only paying $11.50 for a small to medium sized chorizo breakfast burrito at Alfalfa. A surprisingly low price point in this world of $15.00 burritos is a good thing, and an extra $2.50 for a doughnut was equally reasonable. Star. Stars 3 & 4: How was the food? This was good. Often my biggest gripe with breakfast burritos is that the ingredients get all segregated so you end up with a bite that's only egg and then a bite that's only potato or what have you. Alfalfa have solved this issue by essentially shredding all of the ingredients together, and it makes for some nice consistency and a nicely balanced flavor and texture profile. My only complaint was that there weren't any crispy potatoes in the mix, which to me is the hallmark of a good breakfast burrito. Props for the donut as well, which was genuinely a surprise.
