The best new restaurant of the season, bar none! Alice B's is a much needed breath of fresh air to the desert dining experience. The menu is a beautiful expression of Fall flavors with some of the freshest, highest quality ingredients you'll see served in town. Go for the biscuits and stay for the tahini ice cream! The service is excellent. Nathan runs a very tight ship, and every server we've had in the half dozen or so times we've been has taken great care of us. You're best off making reservations as even the table in the bar/lounge can be booked in advance. That said, they've always found a place for us as long as we've arrived before 6pm. By far, the nicest place to sit is on the patio. The heaters keep it very comfortable, even on cool desert evenings. The interior is comfortable, but can be quite noisy during peak times. Really, after over a decade of being based in the desert, we had despaired over getting a really good place to go to dinner with friends that's not all about being flashy like many of the other places in town. Alice B's is about locals and visitors alike enjoying a good meal with good company. Susan and Mary Sue (and Lance!) have totally hit it out of the park with this one. This was our first time to Alice B., and it won't be our last. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by the nicest and most personable maître d', we knew the dinner would be special. Our waiter was helpful and attentive, and the meal was perfectly prepared. The branzino filet was excellent: crispy skin outside and so moist and flaky inside. Delicious, Friendly, Welcoming is the best way to summarize the experience at Alice Bs. Staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. I ordered the Frittata and it was delicious, had just the right amount of vegetables without being overwhelming. For dessert, I tried the biscuit of the day and it was warm and the perfect amount of sweet. I brought three out-of-town friends who are well-traveled and know good food and we all agreed this meal was exceptional. I've lived in this city for 7 years and find most restaurants overpriced and underwhelming. It had free valet, a lively atmosphere, fresh seasonal ingredients, and an attentive wait staff. The food is simple but elegant, showcasing high-quality, healthy ingredients. We had 3 starters, 4 entrees, 2 desserts, 2 cocktails and the bills was around $262 before tax & tip. The interior decor is a little stuffy in that it resembles a corporate hotel restaurant, but the chairs are incredibly comfortable. As others have noted, it can get quite loud, so opt for an early dinner if that bothers you. The only unfortunate thing happened when the server quickly listed the menu changes and specials; she didn't list a pork ingredient in the succotash. She asked if there were any food allergies, so take that as an opportunity to note any dietary restrictions related to items not detailed on the menu. Once I realized this, I alerted a server who had the cooks quickly remake the base for me without wasting the beautiful salmon fillet on top. This is now my #1 spot to bring out-of-town guests who appreciate great food. The prix fixe Sunday Supper looks like a great deal, too. read more

This is the best new restaurant I have experienced in Palm Springs in the 6 years I have been here. Food: The food at Alice B delicious AND creative! Let that sink in... I often (almost always) find that restaurants here in Palm Springs fall very far short when they try to do new creative things... You end up with a disappointing result and often with a hefty pricetag. I have eaten at Alice B at least 6 times and have tried almost everything on the menu. There is attention to detail, fresh ingredients and exciting flavor combinations. THIS is the reason I keep coming back and bringing my friends. Creative food crafted with very fresh ingredients and presented beautifully. Service: The last couple of times I have dined the restaurant was at capacity. Typically this is where you see things start fray at the edges from a service perspective... Not so at Alice B. I have no idea what sort of training they put their front of house staff through but kudos to the team because it is working! Service has always been friendly and quick without being stuffy or drowning in pretense. Bottom line the service is great! Ambiance: The location has a self assured low-key vibe which I appreciate. There is no in your face decoration that screams out "FANCY" or makes a false play at appearing hip. I recommend dining on the patio where you are under the stars (and surrounded by heaters right now in January). Inside of the main dining room it can get a little loud although I understand that there are acoustic measures planned to mitigate this. Make sure to allow time to check out the art which is a delight in that it is REAL ART instead of the boring opinionless pieces you most often see in dining establishments. Alice B is a space which isn't pretending to be anything else except what it is. Noise level in the dining room can be improved. After reading through other reviews it seems like a lot of people are having trouble pinning Alice B into a dining stereotype... Fine dining? Casual? Farm to table? California??? My recommendation is to stop trying to categorize it and to book a table (because they will sell out) then go and ENJOY a wonderful creative meal at the amazing restaurant that is Alice B. read more

In addition to starring on The Food Network, Top Chef and publishing 5 cookbooks, Feniger and Milliken are recognized for changing Los Angeles's culinary landscape. Just a few things regarding ambience kept this place from being a five star review for me. First of all the food was very very good. We split the salad and I had the pork shoulder, which was amazing. We also had the broccolini and the smashed potatoes. The ice cream with chocolate sauce was also very good. Our waiter was excellent. Her name is Karen. Ask for her when you go. I know this place has been criticized for the ambience, and I will say the lighting was inconsistent and not very good. For a place with this kind of menu at these prices, I felt that the space should've been finished a little more. Tonight was my fourth trip to Alice B, and I have decided it is - hands down - the absolute pinnacle of fine dining in Palm Springs. This may be puzzling to those that find its location in a senior living center to be a bit intimidating. I think those folks need to get over here and give the food a try. Every bite is amazing. Tonight I started with their version of the classic Vieux Carre cocktail- bourbon, Benedictine, bitters, and in this instant Cocchi in place of vermouth. My entree- grilled asparagus - baby asparagus stalks with a nice grill-char served with an absolutely perfect romesco sauce and a sprinkling of goat cheese and Marcona almonds. For my main I had tonight's market fish - swordfish perfectly grilled so that it was not even a touch dry (if you can get fish cooked with this level of care in the CV you are really lucky!) over smashed potatoes covered in a sauce gribiche- an emulsion of hard boiled eggs, herbs, capers and some acid. The sauce worked well with both the potatoes and the fish and I used the last of the potatoes to mop up every bit. I saved a tiny bit of room for desert - tahini ice cream smothered in a decadent Mexican chocolate sauce, sprinkled with crispy sesame seed clusters. If you're sold on the food but still questioning the vibe, here are my tips: many nights they have live piano, and the piano man will not disappoint. Without the piano, the lounge area is a bit bright and hollow - but the main dining area is much more intimate and subdued. The service is very professional, personal, and attentive. If you've come more than a couple times, someone will remember you. So if you are in PS, you want a level of cooking you'd normally have to drive out to LA to find, in a comfortable and attentive atmosphere that does not require you to book a reservation a month or more out, come give Alice B a try. read more

This was my first visit to Alice B. and it won't be my last! Our server, Paul, was very accommodating and as soon as he took our cocktail order, he explained the evening's specials. The cosmos that we ordered were made to perfection! We were given plenty of time to enjoy them before ordering. We shared the biscuits which were the best I've ever had! I had the swordfish special and my friend had the duck. Both meals were absolutely delicious. The portions were nicely adequate so neither one of us left feeling like we had overeaten. We shared a salted caramel dessert which was the perfect ending to a lovely meal. If there was one thing I wish could be improved upon is the noise level within the restaurant. If every table is taken, there is a constant din that is, at times, hard to overlook; however, that won't stop me from going back. Alice B, especially for such a new restaurant, shines like a polished gem...though a rather expensive one (as most gems are). Start with the amazing biscuits but make sure you have enough delicious butter to go with the amazing honey mix...irresistible. Next up is the new beet salad which had plenty of everything and I also enjoyed the crudo with the inventively seasoned yellow-tail. The butternut squash risotto should be resized into a small plate from an entree since, though delicious, it's a bit one-note and in large quantities gets too repetitive. The tables tilt a bit too much as in they're not exactly stable though the chairs are super comfortable but it's kind of noisy when crowded. Lovely service I must say (thanks Nicole). $25 corkage fee and the glasses weren't correct for the varietal...but who would notice such a detail? Those minor detriments really result in a 4.5 rating depending on your level of annoyance with such but since there's no 1/2 steps in Yelp I'm voting the full 5-stars for the food quality: Delicious. read more

The biscuits are good. The rest, meh. Wanted to really like and support the new place as often as I do other restaurants in the area but likely won't be going back, On arrival, the guests at the table next to ours were sending the appetizers back. They looked over to us and said, "You better order everything at once, service is slow and everything is just off here." Ok, could just be growing pains I'm thinking. Eventually a server arrives. A bottle of wine is ordered, he doesn't want to take the food order yet. Ok, no big deal. Eventually my table orders. Our plates come out before the said table near us that ordered before we arrived. Food was ok. Nothing exciting. Definitely won't be taking business away from Johannes or other mid range and up places nearby. The table nearby eventually gets their entrees, each ordered different items. They each took a bite or two and were done. Waiter asked if they wanted the food boxed to go. They politely said no thank you, paid the bill, wished us all well and left. The atmosphere/decor just feels like an old hotel banquet hall. Have talked to other friends who have given it a try and they have like comments on food and ambience. If you go, opt for the bar to eat at. The piano player is good in that area and you're closer to the exit when time to go! Again, really wish the place/food was something to rave about but it just isn't. read more

Our friends moved in and invited us with friends for dinner at Alice B. As a Canadian, I was a bit shocked at the prices on the menu. Although we had made a reservation on Open Table, when we arrived, clearly they were not expecting us and no table was ready. However, we were early so they quickly pulled tables together and we got seated. Our waiter was proficient and the drink orders and food orders taken. I was ordering off the small plate menu so wanted my 3 small plates at the same time. When the food started, ALL the food for everyone arrived at the same time, not just mine. My friends main course arrived BEFORE their appetizers. They were removed and the waiter apologized and it was quickly sorted. I ordered the biscuits that I heard a lot about, the leek potato soup and the short rib croquettes. My partner, a vegetarian ordered the butternut squash risotto. I also had a nice signature cocktail. The portion on my leek potato soup was small (for the price) and it was just barely warm. The biscuits were good. I didn't like the short rib croquettes at all and could barely get through them, but determined to eat everything because it is expensive. My partner's risotto was just alright. The food was salty and I drank a lot of water at the restaurant and later that evening I drank and drank more water. What we ordered was disappointing. The noise level in the main restaurant is unacceptable, you need to SHOUT to hear the person sitting across from you. I won't be going back any time soon. read more

The food is pretty good but clearly they have to work out some service kinks which is to be expected for a restaurant that's less than a month old. Our food took a really long time and our server barely visited us. She also forgot to tell us about the specials. To the restaurant's credit, my glass of wine was comped because it took so long. The food was pretty good though the chef has a heavy hand with the salt. We had the hummus and labneh dips and the short rib croquettes. Both were very salty. For mains, we had the seeded chicken and the vegan sweet potato stew as well as a side of charred broccolini. These were much better than the starters. We didn't bother with dessert because we didn't want to wait any longer. Finally, the room is really loud despite all the carpeting and upholstery. I think it has to do with the very low ceilings. Only two days in, the service was solid... lots of smiles and a welcoming attitude. The food was awesome! You can't pass up the Corn Cheddar Biscuits or the Cauliflower and Roasted Leek soup! SO good. I enjoyed the Yellowtail Crudo and Seeded Chicken Cutlet as well. Everything was really tasty. I skipped desert, as I made a pig of myself... but certainly will try next time. I've dined at Alice B about a half a dozen times now. I want it to be a huge success! But I'm worried about the inconsistencies from the kitchen. Case in point: There is only one salad on the menu (go figure), a chicory salad that I loved on my first visit and have ordered twice since then, but it was terribly overdressed the second time, and the third time (tonight) the greens were limp and room temperature. I hope quality control isn't a continuing issue, because if it is, Alice B will lose a regular. read more

Loud, loud, loud! We almost left without ordering but decided to stay to see what all the hype was about. We went for Restaurant Week and ordered off that specail menu. In hindsight, and based on other reviews, we shouldhave ordered off the regular menu. It's a beautiful space and the service was very good. The food, not so much. The salad was okay. The soup was good but it was a small portion. I had the chicken cutlet and found it dry. I was disappointed that the only side dish with it was more salad. My companion had the salmon and said it was okay but nothing special. For desert we had the ice cream and the chocolate cake. The ice cream seemed pretty flavorless and the cake was dry. Our server, Paul, was a pro and we had several laughs with him. I doubt we'll go back. read more

We have been thrilled with this restaurant both times we have visited. The food was wonderful but the service was even better. We had our anniversary dinner there and were spoiled by the attention we got. Dinner included lamb shanks, chicory salad, cheddar biscuits, cauliflower and leek soup, and the broccolini. All were delicious! Signatures cocktails were excellent. We were able to meet Susan Feniger, chef/owner both times we were there and she was so sweet and hospitable. I could go back daily!! Go! Go!
