I go for outside seating because there is limited seating inside. HK milk tea: Light caffeinated taste. Not that sweet. A great to-go drink for brunch. (Sweet) Lemon Ice tea: Highly recommend get this as your go-to drink for HK breakfast. Similar taste to Lipton tea but more tea flavor. Premium Daily Breakfast Classic Noodle in Soup Lo Mein (Sausage/ Egg) (+Pineapple Bun): The soup base is pretty plain very light broth. First time trying Alice's Kitchen after hearing how good and popular it is. I had high expectations, but I give this place an overall average rating. The food was average (3.5 out of 5), nothing stood out. Sizzling Chicken: The flavor was alright, and the chicken was tender. However, there weren't many chickens, the pot was filled with other vegetables and preserved meat. The chickens seemed to be coated with flour which I didn't enjoy. Shrimp & Egg: A very simple and can't go wrong dish. I'm not sure if it's like this or if the restaurant was busy, the egg wasn't fully cooked (still had running egg liquid); thus the dish tastes bland and unpleasant. Baked Seafood in Cream Sauce: My friend ordered this and she thinks it's just alright. Still comes with a great amount of seafood. Sautéed Taishan Cauliflower: The cauliflower was fresh and nicely cooked. It comes with preserved meat, mushrooms, celery, and carrots. A great vegetable choice. Curry with Fried Fish Ball & Cuttlefish Ball: An iconic appetizer. Love how they offer this combo of two different fish ball. I grew up eating HK cafe, and been wanting to try its pineapple bun sandwich as Bo lo bao is one of my all time favorites. Pictures look great, but it wasn't as satisfying. Unfortunately it was too soggy, with it being drenched in mayo and butter. Was still good but too saucy and a bit messy to eat, I expected more from a traditional HK cafe. The chicken steak was pretty good with black garlic sauce, but I think other cafes have it with bigger portions. Must deduct a star because it can't be a legit Hong Kong style cafe without dishes like Beef Chow Fun and Singapore Style Fried Vermicelli! Tried their Beef Rice Roll which I believe is new and it was excellent. Their Baked Pork Chop Rice was still very tasty and the Sampan Congee was still very good. Their milk tea was on point. This Alice's Kitchen location can be found on Garvey with a small parking lot. But it seems like most patrons are parking in the neighborhood. We were lucky to get the last parking spot in their little lot. Because this Alice's Kitchen is dog friendly (the one in Temple City is not), my husband and I brought our little girl dog for breakfast this past Saturday, around 8:35 am. There was no line and were seated outside right away (there is a very nice large outdoor seating area that is covered at this location). After looking over the menu, we ended up ordering: Western Breakfast B Imitation Abalone & Ham, $13.75 prior to tax- With the western breakfast set, it is served with scrambled eggs, your choice of toast or bolo bun (pineapple bun) and your choice of noodle. I picked toast and flat rice noodle. The toast came very lightly buttered, which is nice because I don't like it when American breakfast places have toast heavily buttered. The imitation abalone and ham was not bad but my husband didn't really care for it. I liked the flat noodles and the broth itself was fine. The soup itself is rather plain but I don't mind it since it reminds me of the spam and macaroni soup that I had at previous Hong Kong cafes for breakfast when I was much younger. But my husband, who has never really had Hong Kong breakfast, didn't like it. Pork & Preserved Egg Congee, $12.50prior to tax- This meal comes with either a Chinese donut or steamed rice roll. My husband opted for the donut (you taio). The portion size of plenty for 2 people to have. I really liked this congee, especially the preserved egg. My husband thought it was good but feels that the congee he makes at home is better. Our meals come with a beverage, in which we both picked Hong Kong Style Milk Tea, but hot since it was a rather cold morning. Your drink at breakfast comes with 2 refills but you will be charged for a 3rd if you order one. I only had one refill but my husband had 2. --------------------------------- (Total= $28.94 after tax, prior to tip) I believe you can pay with credit card, once you meet a certain minimum (a previous Yelp member had mentioned $20) but I paid cash. Service was actually quite attentive, as I was not expecting so since we were sitting outside. Actually there were more people sitting outside than inside. Service was also friendly too. There were many great items on that menu that someone coming to this location would he frustrated are gone. Alice's Kitchen is our go-to for this kind of Macau/Hong Kong-style cafe grub. We've been going there ever since they sold off their Delicious Food Corner business place and decided to pack it in. Word is the owners missed the service life and ended up opening this place. Among many delicious many items, their Macau pork chop bun is the best among the Hong Kong cafe pantheon. Alice's Kitchen shmears a spread on their pork chop & egg sandwich that elevates above all others Their other menu items are equally good. The grub at Alice's Kitchen won't disappoint and their service staff is quick and efficient. The only issue with Alice's Kitchen?? Their parking. A lot of folks love this place for their food, but there's not a lot of parking. The sliver of lot on the restaurant's west side is only accessible from Garvey. There's no parking in the alley behind the restaurant. There's also outdoor seating under a large canopy-- a holdover from the pandemic days of outdoor dining, but we offer to eat inside. The store has its own parking lot; but it is undersized during peak demand. You may have to park on Garvey, or on one of the nearby side streets. The restaurant describes itself as a Hong Kong style café. I would describe the food here as Cantonese comfort food. On this visit, we ordered: the sautéed shrimp w/ XO sauce ($15.75); fish filet congee ($12.75); shredded pork chow mien ($12.99); hot tea ($1.95); and a coke ($2.75). With tax ($4.74), the ticket was $50.93 before gratuity. The chow mein is gravy with (for the most park) shredded pork and mushrooms poured over deep-fried egg noodles. You commonly find beef, chicken, or sea food Hong Kong style chow mein outside of the Asian community, so pork was a nice change. The congee was very good in its taste and texture. The serving of fish was appropriate for the size of the bowl. The shrimp was served with a bowl of white rice on the side; and part of me wished there was more shrimp in the serving. But I reconcile myself with the reminder that once upon a time, animal protein was a condiment to vegetables--not the primary part of the meal. We started with the small rice paper rolls cooked in the house peanut sauce. I've been craving for this comforting appetizer and it's so nice finally having it, just wishing it came with meat or Chinese doughnut sticks instead of the rice paper alone. Their HK Style Pineapple Bun should never be skipped. The crunchy sweet layer on top perfectly blended with the soft fluffy bun and savory stuffing. I had a spam and scrambled egg sandwich (Hong Kong style excludes the brown edge) and a satay beef vermicelli noodle and a lemon ice tea. Service was pleasant. The waiter took my order. My food came out very fast afterwards. The flat screen TV displays a Chinese station. The background music is not so loud. This is a very nice place to eat and relax in the afternoon. We opted to sit outside with a table close to the HK Taxi Cab. That was really cool to see that in the USA. It really transports you back to HK. I ordered a Jumbo HK Style Pineapple Bun with Egg and Pork Chop. The pineapple bun was very good. It was fresh with a moist and soft inside with a nice flaky crunch on the outside. It gets very messy eating the Bun with many crumbs falling onto your plate. You're not alone! The Pork Chop is cooked well and very juicy and tender. I highly recommend that you order this dish. The wife order some kind of combination of HK Noodle Soup. She really liked the flavor of the broth and really enjoyed the soup. I realized I was handed the wrong order when I got home and before I could even think about deciding what to do, Alice Kitchen already called me to ask if I would like to pick up the correct order. I like that they immediately took responsibility for handing me the wrong order and proactively called me. Kudos to them. I love HK cafes and the only thing I regret about my trip to Alice's Kitchen is not having enough stomach space to order more items. We came for weekend lunch so the tiny private lot was full and there was an online queue system we had to join. I like that it told you how long you had been waiting and how many parties were ahead of you. It helped me see just how quickly they were moving people in and out of the restaurant. We only waited about 20 minutes for 5 or 6 parties ahead of us. And thankfully there was plenty of street parking nearby. There are both indoor and outdoor tent seating options, and we sat outdoors. Service was quick, friendly, and accommodating. My party kept a menu with us because we kept ordering more, and everything came out super quickly, while being hot and fresh. The drinks were HUGE and not that pricey. I got a lemon tea which was so refreshing, the perfect blend of tart, sweet, and tea flavor. I also tried a bit of my friend's red bean and grass jelly drink and it was delish! For food, we started with curry fishballs, a pineapple bun sandwich with pork chop, and the ovaltine toast. The fishballs are such a comfort food for me, no notes! The pineapple bun sandwich was the dictionary definition of an indulgent dish. Two MASSIVE, perfectly tender pan-fried pork chops on the softest bun slathered with thousand island dressing and topped with a fried egg. Sweet, buttery, savory, rich flavors in every bite! Even split into fourths it was almost too rich for me to finish, but I loved each mouthful. The Ovaltine toast was amazing, moist without being soggy, and the bread had the perfect chew! It was not too sweet! We then got the stir-fried clams with black bean sauce. This was probably my least favorite dish that we ordered since it was too salty and there were some clams that weren't properly cleaned. Still, a good dish for sharing. We then got the mixed BBQ plate which came with your choice of rice v pasta (we got pasta), steak, fish filet, sausage, and chicken thigh. The dish comes with one sauce but our waiter allowed us to get two! We got the black pepper and mushroom sauces. The pasta was an Asian take on tomato sauce pasta, and it was subtly sweet and flavorful. Each protein was cooked to PERFECTION, well seasoned, and incredibly tender. The black pepper sauce was too strong for me but the mushroom was a hit with the whole table. The meat is honestly delicious by itself, but the mushroom sauce's subtle richness was a great addition to each bite. We had such a good time at Alice's kitchen, the food, service, and vibes were impeccable and all of the food + drinks were about $25 per person ! I love Alice's Kitchen. This location is harder to find parking than their other location but I always liked coming to this one. It's cozy and I liked their outside area. I love the food here my go-tos are the pork chop, peanut butter toast, milk tea, and bolo bun sandwiches. The staff is always hustling so you might need to flag someone down if you need something, but they're always happy to help. Apparently it's closed now, idk if they're planning on opening back up. I hope so! If they do, I highly recommend getting on their online waitlist ahead of time for dine in, especially on the weekends. Otherwise, the wait can be like an hour if not more. read more

First time trying Alice's Kitchen and it did not disappoint! I came on a rainy Saturday morning for their breakfast. There's a small parking lot with only a few spots, but I was able to find street parking. There's indoor and lots of outdoor seating so we only waited about 5-10 minutes for a table. We made it just on time for breakfast, which is from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM. We tried the following items: Pork and preserved egg porridge with Chinese donut. Also comes with a drink and I chose the HK style milk tea - $12.50 HK style noodle soup (flat rice noodle with HK Dan Dan Satay Base and your choice of 4 items/toppings) - $15.25 and comes in a big bowl! HK style Pineapple Bun with Butter - $4.99 for two Fried French Toast with Condense Milk - $7.75 (we basically ordered the Ovaltine French toast without the Ovaltine because we wanted a fried French toast and not a regular toast) Everything was so good! It was a lot of food for two people and we were stuffed at the end. I thought the pricing was fair, especially for the amount of food we had. The server was also nice and everything came out quickly.
