I might be the only person that doesn't care for Mochi donuts but I bought some anyway. I bought some taro munchkins but I don't like the chewy texture. It was like chewing a piece of gum. Now, the cream puffs here are to die for. This is my second trip this week for their yummy milk & honey cream puffs. Might make another trip this weekend. I also had the lychee rose tea and the royal milk tea with mini boba which is not only visually stunning, but delicious. The royal milk tea is made with whole milk and they don't have any alternatives. I'm lactose intolerant and don't drink whole milk but ordered it anyway, and surprisingly it didn't give me any trouble. I'm so thankful because I was far from home lol It's a cute little dessert shop with yummy pastries and teas. My gf and I made a quick pit stop here after an amazing lunch in Chinatown. She told me the cream puffs are really good but didn't recommend the mochi donuts (which are better at Liliha Bakery in Hawaii...shhh!). If you're looking for a treat while in the Chinatown area, this is a solid grab and go choice. It's small but "aesthetic', and they have screens to order from. I went with a friend so we could try a variety. Everything we ordered was definitely more than enough for just 2 people. It was also hard to find a place to settle down to eat it comfortably. I'd recommend planning a head to bring your bounty to another location to sit down. Our order was prepared quickly and HOT. I enjoyed their cream puffs the most, with a very fluffy inside. My friend has been raving about the cream puffs here for a long time, so when I finally got the chance to visit her I knew we had to come here. We came on a Saturday around 3pm. There was a crowd around the storefront which had me worried that it would be quite a long wait, but I was really impressed by how efficient they were. There are 3 kiosks to order from, and they had our order ready in under a minute--so quick that we were second guessing whether it was even our order. We got the yuzu cream puff and the vietnamese coffee cream puff. The coffee puff comes with boba. I can't choose a favorite as both were so good in their own way: the yuzu cream was refreshing with the subtle yet somehow prominent citrus, whereas the vietnamese coffee was pleasantly strong with just the right amount of bitter. Both weren't overly sweet which is a huge plus. The only things I wish were different were the pearls, which weren't as satisfyingly chewy due to their small size, and the dough, which had a harder texture than I expected. Incredible and pretty cream puffs and drinks. Cream puffs are a delicacy that are best eaten as soon as they are filled or not too long thereafter. The outer shell of the puff degrades quickly once the existence of the cream is present in the shell and powdered sugar is sprinkled on top. In this way, similar to a cannoli, the crisp shell is no longer crisp the longer it continues to exist. The Matcha cream puff here is my favorite. There is so much matcha flavor in the cream and the size of each puff is more than enough for one, or two. The top of each shell has a crispy sugary coating and the rest of the exterior shell is thin. While I do have a favorite, I'd say try them all! While eating at Xi'ans, I was yelping any boba spots nearby and Alimama popped up with their hundreds of reviews, so we knew we had to check it out. Also, it was literally down the street, so that was convenient. They have outdoor seating right outside their storefront. It's a pretty small space, but very decorative. Their desserts all looked so yummy, but we eventually decided on their taro and matcha mocha munchies (8 for $4!), milk tea boba cream puff, their milk tea with mini boba, and earl grey lavender with mini boba. I'll admit, the first time we went, we didn't adjust the milk tea boba drink so it was so good! But with the earl grey lavender drink, I adjusted the sweetness and ice to 50% and it definitely tasted more herbal that I would have liked. So lesson learned is to just keep it original. Also, who can beat their decorating! The drinks all had dried roses in it with edible gold. Seriously, the prettiest drinks ever at this price point! Alimama is a place that I visit EVERY time I come to NYC, even if I'm extremely full, I will still buy some donuts and cream puffs to bring home. The texture of the mochi donuts are always perfect, it tastes fresh every time, even when you come in at almost closing time.
