Al's is high-quality food. We have eaten at both the Ponte Vedra and the Baymeadows locations. The pizza is really good, specifically the crust, which is nice and thin. The entrees are large portions and also very good. I have enjoyed the Chicken Parm and my wife the Egg Plant Parm. I have also greatly enjoyed a chicken parm sub. Highly recommend. read more

Admittedly, I haven't tried a lot of entrees (the cheese ravioli is really good) since I'm more of a pizza gal. And Al's Pizza is one of my faves. Thin, lots of cheese, not too crisp, not too soft. The side salad is nice, too, which sounds weird but a lot of Italian restaurants (mostly pizza places) give you a plate of iceberg, a quarter of a tomato and lame dressing. Baked ravioli appetizer is really good. Appetizer sampler is HUGE. My main complaint is that when I order a salad and a slice, I barely have time to eat the salad before the pizza comes out. Al's Pizza is one of Jacksonville's most well-known, well-respected local pizzerias. They have a lot of locations all over the city, but this one in particular is located in the Five Points neighborhood, an artistic and eclectic historical part of town with a lot of shops, bars, and restaurants within walking distance. So, that in particular, the great location, makes this a great place to dine. The food is definitely good. Not awesome, in my opinion. I don't think it is the best pizza joint in town, but the pizza is definitely tasty and the other offerings are a little more extensive than your average pizza place, so that kind of adds to its appeal. They make great pasta dishes, salads, and sandwiches, as well. This is a great place to go for lunch due to their awesome lunch specials. You can get lunch sized portions of almost every pasta for a really low price of $4.99, or you can get a slice of pizza [$1.99 for cheese + $0.39 a topping] and a side salad for $3.89. The atmosphere is nice, full of gray marble and wooden booths. They also have a nice bar if you are looking to grab a quick solo bite, or gather for a drink with friends. I wouldn't say this is a hot night spot, but there is always a small crowd at the bar. A great Jacksonville spot. read more

I've been to 3 different Al's Pizza restaurants in the area and find the quality of the ingredients they use are excellent. They have probably the best pizza in town and the other meals are comprable. Are servers are always well trained and polite. One extra that I love is that the food is always served hot. read more

Tried Al's while we were traveling had it delivered , the wait time was normal for delivery. Tried two different items a pizza and an eggplant calzone both were very good. The delivery guy was super nice not to mention they brought plates,napkins , utensils and extra parmigiana cheese for the pizza. This was a surprise to me usually a guy shows up and hands you a box and leaves, not here. I would definitely recommend and eat here again next time I am in town. read more

Good food. I got the cheese ravioli and my niece got the fettuccine alfredo. Both were tasty, but not extraordinary. The side salad with red wine vinegrette was noteworthy. I started off by giving this place 5 stars, then I deducted stars and added stars. I deducted three stars for the following reasons: - 2 stars. Both of sets of silverware were dirty. My second set was dirtier than my first. The fork was actually syrupy sticky. My third set of silverware was still dirty, but I wiped off the stuff on the fork and ate with it anyway. Should have asked for plastic after my second dirty fork. - 1 star. For a place that specializes in Italian food...it was good, but obviously not made by a trained chef. I swear I've had that same red sauce at other Italian restaurants...almost like it was pre-made and directly out of a can. I added a star for the following reason: + 1 star. The side salad was amazing. The veggies were fresh and ripe and the size was satisfying. The red wine vinegrette was obviously prepared well in advance because the wine, vinegrette and oil had separated in the container. I just used my dirty fork to stir it up. Overall...a satisfying meal, but ask for plastic utensils. read more

We have visited Al's Pizza oonce but plan on returning soon. The pizza was pretty good but the staff were great. We were eating outside when a massive thunderstorm developed. They were VERY busy, but managed to move us inside as quickly as possible. Then the power went out. Oh Al's. I think I've reviewed at least two of the other locations, but they are honestly all completely different personalities that should be reviewed separately. This one is walking distance to me so I am there a lot. Let's get this out of the way first - the hallmark of Al's is the Thursday wine and beer deal, and I admit that I am there the majority of Thursdays to partake for a few hours. As you would imagine, it gets pretty damn crowded especially as the night goes on because you can't beat dollar beer and dollar wine, especially since the beer is Yuengling and the house wine really isn't too bad either. As long as you are there before 8 or so it is easy to get a table in the dining room area, but it is REALLY difficult to find seating in the bar area past 5 or so. This isn't really a huge problem, but on days when you don't feel like carb loading and just want some drinks and maybe a slice or splitting something with a partner, you feel like a complete jackass taking up a dining room table. Therefore, unless I plan on ordering a substantial amount of food, I try to sit in the bar so as not to take up a whole table for drinks. Now that my essay on Thursday night is over, on to the food. I've never been blown away by the food, but it is always consistent and good. I've had a large portion of the menu - pizza by the slice, pizza by the pie, almost every appetizer, pastas, entrees, dessert, and I don't think I've ever been disappointed. The only thing that kind of blows is the pizza by the pie is WAY better than the slices, but that is to be expected since they obviously have the slice pizza prepped and ready to be heated when ordered. The pie pizza is thicker and less thin NY style compared to by the slice. A standout for me are the parm subs - they are always really good. The service is always friendly here as well. Usually always very quick with whatever you ordered, which can be impressive because like I mentioned it gets pretty crazy on Thursdays. Also, special shoutout to Blake the hostess because she seriously started remembering my girlfriend and I after us going there like once. When the bartender sees us, he goes ahead and makes our drinks. I'm sure there are a lot of people who go on Thursdays a lot which makes it easy to remember faces and orders, but it makes you feel at home there. I was there last night, and I'm probably lying to myself if I say I won't be there next Thursday as well. read more

Pizza is decent, always busy and usually a wait during weekends. Delivery sucks, only do takeout. Ordered delivery twice, both times received the food literally cold. We live less than a 10 minute drive from them. Also wrote to management to remedy the issue and never received a reply. read more

Great local pizza place. The cheesy garlic bread is perfect, as are the pizzas and entrees. I've only had one bad meal here over the years (cold chicken Marsala). Everything else has been enjoyable. I do wish they rotated the craft beer selection. I dropped in on a whim never heard anything about this place before. But the ambience looked inviting so I thought I'd check it out. Ordered the eggplant Parmesan entrée and was extremely disappointed. The tomato sauce tasted like it came directly out of the canyon was no attempt to spice it up for flavor it at all. Extremely bland! I could not even eat it and ended up exchanging it for a Greek pizza, which looked good but totally and NATO all precooked ingredients except for some small slivers of red onion. There was nothing fresh about this pie, meaning no fresh vegetables.! I took a few bites and ended up giving it to my neighbors and promptly got my check and told them I would never return! This place is not really Italian even though they are a so called pizza joint, there are so much better Italian places all around this neighborhood save your money and your time! read more
