Succotash, comes with corn pudding and scallops

I visited Alta yesterday. They just reopened with a new menu & newly decorated space. The space is gorgeous. The service feels more elevated than my last visit, too. It was good service before, but a bit more upscale this time. The menu, I believe, is completely redone. I didn't see any dishes that looked familiar. I do think if you loved Alta before you'll be a bit disappointed in this new menu. I was, even though I enjoyed what I tried. I actually came for happy hour at the wine shop and it was closed, so we decided to give the new menu at the restaurant a try. The cocktail menu is strong! We enjoyed everything we tried, especially the "sweet corn" which is their version of a whiskey sour. The food is good. I think I just wanted more items that reminded me of "soul food"? I see the connection though. The succotash with corn pudding. I love both of these and their version is fresh & flavorful. The scallops make it a unique dish. The sweet potato is simple but very good. Both amazing dishes. I see how it's California soul food... But why couldn't the black eyed pea fritters stay on? Or an updated version of the deviled eggs? I just wanted more of those items. I almost think they should rebrand with a new name as well because it's Alta 2.0 and some folks might still expect Alta. All in all, it was a good experience. They're not set up for happy hour so I would only come back for dinner. At the current menu prices, I want to enjoy a full meal, maybe a date night. So noted for myself for future visits. They mentioned the wine shop is opening in July so I'll come back to try that side as well.

Why this place has a rating of anything less than 4.5 is astonishing to me. We had a reservation for 5 at 11am and honestly when we walked in, it looked empty but turns out most of sitting is away from the bar area and on the other side of the restaurant. We had a warm welcome and our server answered any and all questions we had. The vibe is quintessential to the food they are serving. The playlist is as authentic as it gets and don't be surprised if you see people jamming out to the music as they enjoy the food. We started off with the fried chicken and buttermilk biscuits as a starter for the table. The fried chicken is juicy, very flavorful, and the crispy exterior without a heavy batter is truly top tier. Everyone at the table agreed on how delicious and outstanding the chicken was. The buttermilk biscuits were just as standout. Tender on the inside but a nice crust on the outside. The butter with the sprinkle of Maldon salt was chef kiss. And don't let me sleep on the red pepper hot sauce served with the fried chicken. It was the perfect amount of heat but packed big on flavor. Insane pairing with the fried chicken. The rest of food didn't disappoint either. Everyone's food was delicious. We tried everything. The oxtail and grits. Oh my jeans. Expand them suckers for these. Those grits were creamy and buttery but with a nice texture of grits. The oxtail was tender, smoky and delicious. The shrimp and grits just as delicious. The shrimp was cooked to perfection. Juicy with a hint of smokiness. The sauce was perfect bed for the grits. Fried catfish was crisp on the outside but moist and tender on the inside. Collard greens were traditionally served with a hint of smoked flavor and vinegar. Yall don't sleep on this place. If I lived here, I'd be a regular for sure. Definitely some of the best food I have enjoyed in a very long time.

The food here is phenomenal! West African themed restaurant. Michelin 2025 award for the best seasonal food served with intention. Chef Corbin has selected every detail on the menu from the wine local from Northern California to the seasonal vegetables offered. The service was wonderful, our server Marylyn and everyone one else were so pleasant and attentive to our needs and request. If you have the chance please pay them a visit, it's worth your while!!!

I'm going to assume the reason for the 3.5 stars is the lack of parking because everything else was wonderful! The ambiance is beautiful and I liked that there was lots of natural lighting. The service was great - even though I was a part of a big party (10) and it was quite busy, we were never forgotten and they always checked on us. As for the food and drinks - I really liked the dirty matcha, you can really taste the espresso and earthiness of the matcha. For food, the chicken and waffles were just perfect! I asked for hot sauce on the side which pairs really well with the buttery sweet sauce Overall would definitely come back to this place even if parking is a hassle.

We went here after the chef closed it for a few months to revamp the space and boy was I impressed! The new concept was described as African cuisine meets California style and I think it hit the nail on the head. From the sashimi to the little gems salad to the suya chicken, it was the perfect blend of California cuisine with African & global influence. Everything tasted like it was made with love but in the most elevated way. The staff was so friendly and helpful, the cocktails were to die for! We will be back!

For brunch some girlfriends and I went here and it was fabulous!!!! Customer service was spot on, food was spot on. Ambiance was great! My friends had the shrimp and grits and catfish and grits and they both liked them too. Will definitely be back.

I was super excited about hearing about this place but I always enjoy trying out new black owned restaurants that serve southern cuisine in Los Angeles. As everyone knows already, parking over here can be difficult which is a drag and it can take a minute to find parking without spending the money for valet. After looking at the menu, there seemed to be a decent amount of options and of course I'm aware this is a more upscale restaurant but the prices seemed very pricey for the food and amount provided. The brisket was decent and I tried the corn mill pancakes which I wanted to love but it really didn't do it for me along with the "syrup" they gave which really wasn't syrup. It also looked almost identical to the bbq sauce so that can be an easy mistake lol. I do want to give this another try but I'm not as enthused.

Came here 7pm Saturday night it wasn't very busy but would pick up over time. I made a reservation and got sat immediately. There's $10 valet that you can Venmo if you don't want to look for street parking We had a new waitress whenever she was slippin this black male waiter was amazing to back her up Cornbread delicious with and without butter. Maybe even better without honestly. The deviled eggs had too much mustard for me but my date liked it. Food came out extra hot so much so i needed to take the yams out of their container for them to edible comfortably lol. Something as basic as rice & beans was even great too. They even found a way for basic fried potatoes under my black salmon (which was amazing) to stand out. Apetizers not coming out before the entree was a little different and the more packed it got the more it seemed there should've been another waiter for the whole section. The partnership with the "inkind" app gets 20% back instantly. I'll be back asap

Great soul food spot in West Adams which is one of my favorite areas in LA! Simple and great layout with a smooth vibe. The spot doesn't give soul food but the food matches the spot and makes sense as soon as you taste the food. It's a soul food that feels light and healthy which is rare lol. I had the Blackened Salmon, Fried/Smashed Potatoes, Mac & Cheese, Collard Greens and Candied Yams & Pecans. Everything was good, with a light taste/flavor, not to be confused with lacking taste/flavor but light lol. Staff was amazing as well.

I don't know how this doesn't have 5 ! We sat at the chef's counter and I'm so glad we did! The staff was incredibly warm and generous on our anniversary. They made it very special. I was blown away at how much flavor and intention went into the dishes, it was not overseasoned which I think can sometimes happen with soul food. They utilize smoke in various ways, everything is perfect. I can't say enough good things about them.

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for months and months and months maybe years... So one day when we were planning dinner I just said we're gonna go to Ulta right now. It was a Sunday and we live in walking distance so we walked and they were actually like closing up. It was like six and I'm like what and she's like. Yeah we just do a brunch. She's like I mean we do have a dinner. It's a prefixed menu and we're showing a movie. It's like dinner in a movie and I said well what's the movie she said boomerang I said oh my God yeah that sounds fun. How much is it so we got the price and we decided to go watch the movie and have some food let me tell you we had such a good time we forgot how funny that movie was. We forgot how nice it is to sit and just like be with other people laughing and talking. It was just a wonderful experience and I was so grateful that they were able to accommodate us and one of my needs, I really really wanted the okra stew and she was able to switch one of my mains from the prefix menu! And I hate that I did not get names... There was a little problem with some bills at the end of the day the manager took everything into her hands and made everything more than right. I cannot wait to go back and if you have not been, you must go every single thing that we ate was delicious. Every drink we had was scrumptious 5 1/2 stars. I would give it if I could.

I was excited to dine at a black owned eatery and I was very impressed. The food was good and served at a good temperature. Everyone loved their meal. Drinks seemed a bit pricey. The service was equally as good and they were very accommodating to our table of 6. All of the staff were very friendly. Very nice ambiance with indoor and outdoor patio seating. We chose to sit inside and the only issue was the music. The noise level was unbearable. The music is so loud that you can't hear the people at your own table. Had the volume of the music not been an issue, this would have been an exceptional experience. I will try again another time.

Went back for Brunch on a Saturday afternoon. Made a reservation, just in case but it wasn't very packed; although, their outdoor patio area was not available. (I'm not talking about the one on the side street.) I had eggs, chicken sausage and cornmeal pancakes. Everything was delicious and it was enough for me to take home seconds. My friend enjoyed her catfish and grits. We both had matchas...one hot and one cold. The hot comes in a small teacup; the amount seemed small. All in all we enjoyed it. Street parking was not as plentiful but I was able to find something across the street.

On multiple occasions, Elton has given me poor service and a noticeable attitude. I chose to overlook it at first, but eventually I brought it to management's attention because the treatment was consistent and unacceptable. After that complaint, the situation escalated. When I returned, Elton refused to serve me altogether. He would not look at me, acknowledge me, or take my order. I was left sitting there while being completely ignored. It became so obvious that other guests sitting next to me noticed and were concerned enough to step in and ask him why I wasn't being helped and to tell him to serve me. That should never have to happen. I then asked for the manager I had previously spoken to, Leo, because I wanted to understand what was going on. I still have not received any clear explanation. What's most concerning is that this behavior feels intentional. No employee in hospitality gets to decide who they will or will not serve based on personal feelings. If a staff member's feelings are "hurt" after a complaint, that does not justify refusing service to a guest. That is not professionalism--that is the opposite of hospitality. It was honestly disturbing enough that the people next to me told me directly that it didn't feel right and that I shouldn't come back because it seemed like I wasn't wanted there. That is not okay, especially at an establishment of this caliber. I am actively trying to get in touch with someone at the hotel who can properly address this situation, because this needs to be taken seriously. No guest should ever feel ignored, singled out, or unwelcome in this way.

I emailed the bar to make a reservation since the online system was down, and they emailed back immediately to confirm -- and even said they would surprise my mom with an extra birthday cake! Now all I had to do was wait 3 weeks until her visit so the experience could finally happen. The day arrived and I got my mom to Maybourne Bar with her none the wiser. From the moment we stepped through the door, the experience was a 1 million out of 10. Every course is unbelievable. This is a caviar tasting in the best way -- all nine courses are topped with generous helpings of delicious N25 caviar. You get sweet, salty, savory, comfort food, upscale dining, everything comes together in the absolute best way. I especially loved the deconstructed deviled egg and the lobster roll, and the ice cream was some of the best I've ever had. The chips and dip came with the cutest miniature potato chips (although I'll admit I could have used a few more), and the caviar salmon burger was super flavorful. And, true to their word, they surprised my mom with a birthday cake -- and then surprised us both with complimentary lychee cocktails! The service was impeccable as well. Each person on the waitstaff was kind, helpful, and accommodating. We loved how descriptive they were of each dish. It was also really nice of them to decide to give us an extra 2-top so we would have room for all of the courses. This is not only an incredible tasting menu, but made even more incredible by the price. 10 courses and a glass of champagne are $85. I was honestly shocked at how much we received for under $100. I cannot recommend this experience highly enough. This is a true gem in Beverly Hills. I'm already planning my next visit!
