After 30 years in law enforcement, I know everyone has off days and deserves second chances. But accountability matters when no effort is made to fix things. I've been a customer at Ventura and Oxnard American Tire Depot. Recently, I purchased a new set of tires for our Volkswagen Jetta, assisted by store manager Larry Rodriguez. I planned to replace one tire, but after an inspection, Larry suggested additional services, including brakes, which I declined. Later, with a discount, I agreed, appreciating his effort to build trust. The Tire Rotation Incident On February 11, 2025, I visited the store for a tire rotation on my 2007 Chevy Silverado, which has mild modifications. At the counter, Carlos F. (CF470) courteously informed me they were short-staffed but encouraged me to set an appointment for later. Since I had a flexible schedule, I agreed to return at 2:00 PM. When I arrived, Carlos was gone. Instead, I spoke with Larry Rodriguez, who seemed noticeably different from our last interaction. When I requested the tire rotation, he acknowledged my white truck outside but immediately said they couldn't do it. I explained that I was told to return at 2:00 PM and that the person who scheduled the appointment would be back from lunch. Larry's response: "The guy who set up the appointment doesn't work here." Confused, I asked if Carlos was filling in from the Ventura store, and Larry confirmed this. Then, out of nowhere, he said: "I'm going to have to decline you the service." When I asked why, he replied: "Trust me, you don't want these two guys working on your truck." At the time, I could see one employee repairing a tire and another replacing brake pads on a subcompact car. He continued, "I don't trust them working on your truck; it's too nice, and I don't want to have to pay for new rims if they scratch them. You have nice rims on it." Odd, since Larry knew my truck had stock 2017 Chevy Tahoe rims. His refusal to service my vehicle made me suspicious. Larry then suggested we inspect the truck together. After confirming the wheels were stock, clean, and undamaged, he still said: "Yeah, I don't want to chance it. I don't trust these guys." Questioning the Logic I challenged his reasoning: "So you trust them to disassemble the braking system on that compact car on the rack, but not to perform a simple tire rotation--something any high school auto shop student can do?" Instead of answering, he shifted the blame: "We've had people in the past claim damage to their rims, and we had to pay out." Now, it felt like he was implying I'd make a false claim. I pressed further: "As a manager, your job is to identify potential problems that could impact ATD, right?" Larry quickly agreed. "And as a manager, part of problem-solving is being able to think on your feet?" Again, he agreed. "So why wouldn't you just take pictures of the wheels before any work is done to protect yourself and the company from false claims?" His response? "I have a smartphone, but it's my personal phone, and my employees don't have smartphones." Then, he checked his smartwatch and abruptly ended: "Hey, I have things to do." My response? "Yes, and I have things to do as well, including writing a letter to your corporate office." He replied: "That's fine if you want to try to get me fired." Before I left, he suggested I take my truck to Big Brand Tires, a sister company of ATD, and offered a handshake. Attempting to Contact Corporate After leaving, instead of writing a letter, I called the district manager. I reached out to the corporate office's 800 number and was told district manager Nick Norbutas was unavailable. An employee promised to pass along my message. The next morning, Larry called me unexpectedly, saying he now had two competent employees available and that I could bring my truck in at 9:00 AM. I told him I had already reached out to Nick and was waiting for a response. After multiple follow-ups, including a message left with an employee named David, no one called back. Five days later, still no response. At this point, I assume Larry dismissed my concerns to Nick. Final Thoughts When a manager doesn't trust his own employees to perform a simple tire rotation, why are they working there? And why would he voice that lack of confidence to a customer? Would you trust this company with your vehicle? I certainly won't. My truck is heading straight to America's Tires! P.S. My personal opinion? After Larry inspected my truck and saw the Wilwood big brake kit installed, he realized they don't stock replacement parts for that system. Since there was no opportunity for an upsell--no new tires or brakes to sell me--he simply chose not to bother. BE~ read more

Elario even went above and beyond to help me by calling Kia to ask if there was a way they misplaced it after a recent service! They finally found it in the hood of my car, and were very fast and efficient in fixing the tire! Will be coming back for any other tire problems I run into. read more

I went in to the the Vineyard store and spoke with a man named Larry. I had a flat and the tire needed to be replaced. I had purchased their warranty when I purchased the set of new tires. I also asked for the tires to be rotated which is a service included in the warranty. When Larry called me that afternoon, he told me that my car needed new "shocks and struts" to the tune of $1800.00 dollars. When I said I can't do that right now, his attitude changed drastically. He was dismissive and rude. When I called my own mechanic to ask about the shocks, he laughed and said no, you do not need new shocks on a car with such low mileage. When I picked up the car, the tires had not been rotated and they left the donut tire just laying in the trunk area without putting it back into the space it belonged. Was this retaliation for not purchasing unnessary and expensive services? I don't know. I called their customer service and was told that the district manager would reach out within 48 hours. I waited 2 weeks. I called again and was told there was nothing that could be done. I would give 0 stars if I could. read more

Appreciate American Tire Depot flexibility for their schedule. I had another appt with at another place and they were rushing me on the phone and hours were the same but were not willing to budge for a schedule time that I couldn't make even with trying or meet in the middle and told me well that's what you get for a holiday weekend. Despite everything he has going on that day, he was so patient with me as I asked a million questions and even left and came back. He worked with me and gave me a great price for my issues and even honored a discount that one of his colleagues told me incorrectly over the phone. I was able to get in, get a free brake check, then ultimately leave the car, and pick up same day. Definitely recommend this place and would come back. Let me talk about customer service. The man is a gem. He helped us get four brand new tires for our car and understand the time are tough and worked with us to find something perfectly in our budget.
