My daughter and I had time to kill before she went to Universal. We were driving and found this cute, quaint restaurant on Burbank Blvd. The location is small but very intimate. Esthetically very appealing. She had seen the pictures from other reviews and wanted to try it. We came in and were greeted immediately and didn't wait for a table (wasn't busy when we got there). As we looked over the menu the server brought her a drink. She ordered a Mexican matcha, she picked the milk and flavor she wanted. The Matcha was made with oatmilk and mazapan flavor. The drink was delicious. We couldn't decide so we got chilaquiles with steak and eggs. The tortilla chips were crunchy and they were served on a bed of beans which was just the right touch. My daughter got the Frenchicano which was a delicious French toast that tastes great. The bread was nice and think. Overall this place is a hidden gem. Came here with a friend last weekend, didn't take a photo but I got the chilaquiles rojos and she did the green. Luckily we were seated immediately after being told there would a 20 min wait! However, the food was honesty not great unfortunately. The "Mexican matcha" was okay and the food was just okay as well, they did not have enough sauce at all, and were basically just tortilla chips. My friend and I found this little spot in Burbank and it was exceptional! The food seems like it's a mix between Mexican and Asian and I would say leans more towards Mexican. The service was fast and attentive which is always nice to have when a place is busy. The seating is mainly inside but there were two tables outside and we decided to sit outside. Inside had a really nice vibe and I loved the decor. I decided to go with the avocado toast and I usually never do but the description on the menu sold it to me. Bad service & no communication between the staff led to a very bad experience to a highly rated restaurant. We came here for lunch around 12 pm on Saturday 5/9 as a party of 5 (4 adults & 1 toddler). They sit us outside at 1 of the 3 tables. It just our table and another table next to us with one couple. The waiter comes to take our order for drinks and then disappears for about 10-15 minutes. A different waiter with our drinks passes our table & brings them to the wrong table. We wave down a third waiter and ask where our server is because we're ready and the response is "I'm not sure to be honest". This waiter starts taking my order and mid way while I'm ordering starts having a conversation with another guest walking by our table. It wasn't a simple "thanks for coming, see you again" they were discussing back and forth. The food comes, once again, passes by our tables and brings the food to the wrong table, plus, our order had a kids meal order with it. Our group felt neglected the whole time we were there and was just a miserable first experience here. When I initially attempted to order the aguachiles, they told me they didn't have the papa taquitos that go with it that day so I asked "what do you serve with it in place of the taquitos?" And the sever's response was "nothing," so I naturally asked "how do you eat aguachiles by itself?" She then went to the back and came back out and said that item was not available. The sever wasn't rude but she also wasn't overly pleasant or seemed largely welcoming with it being our first time there. I guess that was the icing on the cake for me. If you've been to Mirate in Atwater Village, you already know his drinks are top-tier. The Americano with café de olla syrup was bold, smooth, and absolutely delicious. The Mocktail de Aguachile was light, refreshing, and had the perfect hint of lime. Can't wait to try more of their mocktails! Oh, and all their syrups? Made in-house! I had the breakfast sandwich, and it was phenomenal -- easily one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. I asked for well-done bacon and well-done eggs (since I'm pregnant and couldn't have the cheese), and it still turned out incredible. The bacon was perfectly crispy, and every bite was so satisfying. I can only imagine how good it would be with the cheese included. We also shared the French toast, which was absolutely delicious. For drinks, I had a matcha latte with whole milk and an added sweetener the waiter recommended -- it was fantastic. You have NO IDEA, how excited my husband and I are that this place is officially open! My husband's favorite food is Mexican and his favorite meal of the day is breakfast, so the fact that we now have this Mexican Breakfast spot right across the street from where we live is LIFE CHANGING! You order at the counter and they give you a number and you can sit wherever there is space available (it was full when we went). Luckily a two-seater opened up right before we ordered, so we sat in the far back of the restaurant it was perfect for us because it wasn't too noisy there and we got a little bit of privacy because the line does get long at the counter for people trying to order, so if you're sitting next to the counter, it seems like it could get a little crowded with people hovering over you. The spot isn't too big, but perfect enough where you will most likely find a table to sit at. If you've been to Cafe de Olla nearby, you know how tiny that spot is and that is what causes to long wait times and for that reason alone, we don't go there as often as we would like. THANK YOU THANK YOU for opening another Mexican cafe and this one is even closer to us! My husband and I both ordered cafe de olla coffees but he got the hot version and I ordered the iced version. They ask you what kind of milk you prefer and I got it with whole milk (I think that's the default milk they use), but next time I'm going to order a less fattening milk option to compare. My husband ordered the breakfast sandwich which he said was lacking more protein, but still tasted great and I ordered the red chilaquiles and added chicken. They didn't offer to add a protein, so you definitely need to ask for it. Steak wasn't an option or else I would have added steak instead. It could be because we went during their soft opening, so maybe I'll ask if I can add steak on our next visit. The chilaquiles were perfect and I can't wait to try the other options on their menu. We ordered the chilaquiles verdes which were incredible. Salsa is great with the tiniest little kick of spice. Delish pickled onions, queso fresco, pinto beans, and crema!
