Was a little nervous that this was going to be just another over priced Japanese place with mediocre sushi. We went late, around 10:15, after a long day and honesty wasn't expecting much. Boy, were we wrong! We ordered the Lake Mary For Two. Silky, buttery and utterly fabulous sashimi. The sushi rice was superb and beautifully complimented by the various fish. Even the octopus was astounding! The three rolls, which I don't remember the name of, knocked me back - they were amazing! Nothing bad to say about it. Great Korean short ribs! Recently ate here with some of my family from out of town. They could not say enough good things about their food. Their hibachi on Sundays is unrivaled. Top-notch food meets rock-bottom prices for a combination that will keep both your stomach and your wallet full. Venturing out into the regular restaurant, although not as exciting, still leaves a pleasant taste in your mouth and isn't that much of a hit on your pockets. The sushi is typically Amura's patrons' favorite dish, and if that's your thing, well then I've heard very good things. I myself stick to the steak and the chicken, and they haven't failed me yet. MOOD: 5 stars. The mood is pretty fancy, and for the prices, it better be. The culture and ambiance of Lake Mary oozes throughout the restaurant and adds to the relaxing yet upscale environment. STAFF: 5 stars. The staff is typically very friendly. The owner and I are friends so perhaps I'm a little biased in that regard but I've truthfully never had a negative experience with the staff so I'll give high marks here. The sushi here is always on point. I come all the time and have never had a bad experience. It is hard to list my favorite rolls because there are so many. I will say the volcano roll is better than most places, and for a twist on a spicy tuna you must try the crunchy spicy tuna California style. If you are fiscally cheap this is not the place for you. Hibachi is pretty good but admittedly I frequent it very little. I have changed my rating for this place I have not been in a while. I have been twice in the last month and both times have been a disaster. Waiter was horrible dirty dishes, no silverware. Had to eat my app with my fingers. And then one person didn't get their food until 20 minutes after the other 5 people actually finished. The food is still great but service and attention to detail has gone down dramatically. Seriously the best restaurant we have been to in a LONG time. We have been on the road traveling for 6 weeks and have spent a lot of time in restaurants - in different states & cities between VA & FL. Very refreshing atmosphere after suffering through restaurants the past 2 years (stupid Covid killed all things hospitality). You walk in and the hostess is smiling and happy to see us (my husband, myself, & 4 small kids). We were quickly seated for hibachi they immediately brought us a high chair for our 1 year old and booster seats for 2 of our kids. They made us feel so welcomed which is rarely the case nowadays. Every 5 minutes we had one of our 2 waiter/waitress there at our table asking us if we needed anything, refilling our waters, chatting with our kids, etc. The hibachi chef was awesome. He put on quite a show but always asked before fire happened if our kids were okay or too scared. Very thoughtful! He also made sure our 3 year old understood the food was very hot so she wouldn't dive in and burn her mouth. When we finished the waiter boxed our food up for us which is always a nice touch. When we were leaving my 7 year old said "see you tomorrow" and my husband and I laughed because they just might! The food was AMAZING (the best hibachi and sushi we have had - and we eat a lot of hibachi & sushi) and the staff was SPECTACULAR! Job well done Amura! Keep it up! read more

After a long day of work I decided to pick up Amuras for dinner, by the time I got home at 9 pm, I realized my order was incorrect. I called back in to figure out how it could be corrected. The hostess was in La La Land the whole time and didn't really care that my 15 dollar order of soup was incorrect and that she had rang it in incorrectly. The manager Casey said all we can basically do, is if you drive back from Casselberry another 25 minutes back here we can exchange it for you but that's all we can do... even though our hostess ring in an your order incorrectly. Pros: think kobes with a little more style. Atmosphere: can be romantic and yet great for large groups. Lights are turned down making it a soft glow throughout. Service: very friendly and accommodating. I didn't want rice or noodles so they provided me with lots of extra vegies! Taste: very good, the meat is nicely flavored and the vegies are lightly seasoned. Best of all they have the famous white sauce that you can literally pour over everything.. Cons: my drink didn't stay refilled and you only get the option of soup or salad. Where the sushi bar is located makes it a little tight to get to the restrooms and so I wondered how some with a wheelchair would manage. read more

I have eaten at Amura numerous times over the years, but tonight we went and when the appetizers came, we asked for forks. He came back and said they did not have any forks but could give us chopsticks. I do not like using chopsticks but ate my appetizer with the chopsticks. Our entrees came and I again reauested a fork. Again, the server came back and said they had no forks and handed us two table spoons and two knives. I found it extremely hard to believe that in the hour or so we were there they could not come up with two forks. The server never really had an explanation as to why they had no forks but it was very disappointing eating my entree with a spoon. I loved the area, a little upscale hipster, but fun and relaxed. The sushi bar is incredible and has a well deserved zagat reputation. I had the lobster roll with caviar and it was possibly the best sushi I've ever eaten. I've had better hibachi but don't know if I can blame the chef, as the party I was sat with brought several small children who's family requested no fire at the table, and complained about the steam several times? (If safety was their concern, perhaps the 7 whiskey sours the mom drank may not have been the best idea ) But I can't blame the restaurant for the patrons. The sushi menu is huge, and the hibachi selections were pretty good. They have a "before 7 deal of $16.99" for hibachi which was a great deal,, but may pull in a little uncouth riftraf. The manager saw my uncomfortableness and did offer a discount if I wanted to come back. (I ended up having my food boxed up about the 3rd time the party mom dropped an F bomb at a 4 year old. But in all truthfulness, it was very good, even if consumed in my hotel room. I'm going to give it another shot this weekend and hope for a little better acting crowd,,, because that sushi is legit!! read more

My family has eaten here tons of times. I don't really have any complaints about the service itself. The food is OK, nothing spectacular. But the last several times we have been there, once we receive our food, gnats start flying all over the place while we're trying to eat. It's not just one annoying fly, these are little gnats and flies constantly having to be swatted away while we are trying to eat. We eat at restaurants all the time and this is never an issue. Clearly something is going on in the kitchen area that's not being kept clean to where they have bugs flying all over the restaurant. It's pretty disgusting at this point because it is ongoing and clearly Cleanliness in the restaurant must be an issue. read more

This is literally about 100 yards from my house, so I frequent it often. I can't give it 5 stars because I admittedly don't know enough about sushi yet. I've only been eating it for less than a year. However, the rolls are very good but they don't blow me away. The staff is very nice and it's typically not difficult to get a spot at the sushi bar. My family and I arrived around 9pm (I understand we were pushing it a little but we just needed a quick meal after 4 hours of driving) but we were quickly denied entry past the host stand. This place has a good sushi menu and sake menu. The volcano roll is very good. This place is more than sushi. They also have hibachi but lately the hibachi cooks lack the energy people crave with the hibachi experience. I've been more than 10 times and it stays the same on the energy level. If you pass the hibachi, I highly recommend ordering the yakisoba noodles. I promise you, it is so good. I add the white sauce on top of it, to give it the finish touch. This place is very nice inside, fits tons of people and is a great place for a special occasion. The prices are a little on the high side but it is what I expect for a higher end sushi restaurant. The sushi has all been great, very fresh and well made. If you go with a party the have different size sushi boats you can share. The martinis are pretty good (coming from a non martini dinner) and they often have specials. Dress up, spend some cash and take your special one out to dinner here one night. read more

It had been a few years since stopping in. Wished I had not at this point. Wait staff was inefficient and inattentive. We sat for extended periods of time. When half the table's food arrived, the salad with grilled chicken looked appetizing but after trying it, I found chicken was dry and burnt on underside. It was placed to side of bowl. Son ordered crispy chicken dinner. Asked for soba noodles instead of rice. "We can't do that but can give you plain noodles in addition for an extra $5 or so." Whatever... noodles/rice. Are they really that expensive to substitute? Sushi arrived 10 minutes after rest of food. It was decent and my son enjoyed it, definitely saved them a star. Restaurant was noisy and seemed disorganized. This used to be one of nicer restaurants in heathrow/lake Mary. Now it looks old and tired. For the price there are better options a short ride away. Sushi was really good but we got fried rice to go and were really let down looked like no one cooked it.

Came here with my boyfriend and his sister, they had come a few times before and it's been decent for them (my first time though). So she and I got the rainbow roll, and he got the godzilla roll. All of which made each and everyone of us sick. I took one bite of the godzilla roll and nearly puked all of what I had managed to get down, was not good at all. The staff were slow (and it was dead all except for 2-3 groups including our own), and the wait time for not only our drinks, but our food was close to 15 minutes or more. The waitress was nice but that's about it. Was really disappointed, and won't be going again. (At least not to this one). read more

I know, I know - it's AMURA... how can I give such great sushi two stars?! Well, the food is not what this review is about. It's about the service. This is yet another restaurant in Lake Mary that I get to try out during the bright day-light hours and I have to say, every time I've been here the service has absolutely, without doubt, SUCKED. I've gone with a group of 5 other girls - horrible service. Server seemed to forget about us. Drinks were never refilled. Took forever to get checks. I went with one guy and we sat ignored in a booth, couldn't get our server to come back, and ended up bugging someone else for our drinks, sauces and even checks. And finally, yesterday, I went with my boyfriend. To begin: Two hostesses couldn't figure out what was going on so we were getting seated, then we weren't, then we were. Then we did. Our table was disgusting - sticky, thick residue all over it. My sweet-tea tasted like the container hadn't been cleaned in a long, LONG time (how do I know that you ask? I worked in restaurants for like 6 years, I know that taste, it's gross.) But the kicker - our server was VISIBLY upset that his four-top had only two people at it. He didn't smile once and he looked at us like we were crazy for what we were ordering - we were actually uncomfortable in his presence. Now there was one saving grace to this last experience - I realized I had a meeting in 45 minutes so the server hustled our food out and we got it in like 10 minutes flat. For this, I tipped him well. But for every other time I've been, and everything else that went wrong, I can tell I won't be back to Amura's. There are TOO many other sushi places in the area to have to deal with this - and many of them are FAR less expensive, with equally good sushi. read more

Two weeks ago on a Sunday we went for a late lunch, we took my elderly mother with us who has Alzheimer's and doesn't eat very much. I requested a children's menu, but the waitress said that mom would have to order off of the regular menu. She asked the manager who also refused to accommodate us. He told the waitress to have us order a meal and share it with my mother. We were going to order drinks and dinner which probably would've came close to $60. Since the manager would not accommodate us we decided to leave. We always enjoy their food, but I will never return to this restaurant. Poor management skills!! He never even came to the table. We went across the street to Duffys got a child's menu for her with no problem and enjoyed a great meal with drinks. read more
