We went to Angry crab shack and Jesus was our server. He was so attentive and such a friendly guy. We have been to the other location on Broadway and our service and food were unfortunately a 1/10. The Grant location had friendly staff and when our food was running behind (due to a larger party that ordered before us) Jesus kept us informed that the kitchen was running behind. My partner and I wanted seafood so we checked out Angry Crab for the first time for dinner last night. With music playing and nothing but hard surfaces, the restaurant ends up being very loud. It has a sports bar feel with wood tables/booths and customer graffiti all over the walls and booths. I wanted the fish and chips but they were out of fish so I settled for the crab cake. Note - I'm not a fan of shellfish but like fish. My husband ordered a boil with snow crab and naked shrimp. The food arrived and we realized we didn't have utensils. Our server apparently had a large group to tend to and was MIA for most of the evening. I asked another server to flag them down and the other server ended up bringing us utensils and a plate for my husband. He enjoyed the crab boil. He liked the flavor and the spice level was as expected. I wasn't a huge fan of my crab cake. My crab cake came on a toasted bun with coleslaw. The crab cake was pretty thin and didn't taste like crab very much. It was not something I would ever order again. After eating the majority of the crab cake, I noticed a sticker on the paper lining my basket and it said shrimp and crab cake. I pulled up the menu on my phone thinking maybe I missed something but no - the menu listed crab cake only and I was served a shrimp and crab cake. No wonder I wasn't a fan! When our server finally returned and we asked for the check, I asked about the sticker and the crab cake. He said it was all they had and the manager knows it's listed wrong on the menu. I told him I never would have ordered it had I known as I don't like shrimp and it's a serious issue to serve something with a major ingredient left out because what if someone had an allergy. Never going back again. 1. It took forever for anyone to meet-greet-seat us when we arrived (at 2:35 - well past the typical "lunch rush.") 2. Waited another 10 minutes for a waitress to bring menus and take our drink order (water with lemon. Which came as plain water, no lemon) 3. The food took quite a long time to be served. And it was disappointing. My cod lunch consisted of two small pieces of seriously overcooked breaded fried cod in a basket with Cajun fries. His two lobster rolls were served with ranch dressing (ranch dressing?) and were way more bread than lobster. No butter, which is how they should be made. And the lobster meat was chopped, minced and diced - not nice chunks like you'd expect for $30. 4. Loud! I mean REALLY LOUD! The music that was playing was way too loud for anyone to have a conversation. As a result, all the patrons were talking loudly in order to be heard over the music. And I'm not a fan of the choice of music they played. But that's beside the point. 5. My family and I love the angry crab! I'm thankful they have kid friendly options so we can go as a family and enjoy. You get to create and customize your own seafood boil which is the main reason we go. The boils are packed with such good flavors and spice! We love pouring it all out and making a whole experience out of it! It's pricy but that's totally expected in my opinion when it comes to seafood restaurants especially in AZ. This is my husband and I'd go-to restaurant when we want something indulgent. We always get the bag boils and something in the sausage is MAGIC, it's literally my favorite part of the whole bag next to the crab. First time coming here. We ordered the snow crab, shrimp and sausage in the boil with the trifecta and medium spice. Also ordered onion rings, lobster crostini and a burger. Food: Onion rings were ok but not worth us ordering again the next time. The lobster crostini was so good. I like that they packed on a lot of the lobster salad on the little baguettes, definitely worth the $10 I think. Hubs ordered the burger medium well and it was cooked to perfection. It was actually really good I was surprised. The boil was very good, I loved the sauce it came in and my favorite was the crab legs and sausage. The shrimp were ok, but I won't be getting them again. I got mild spice and it had a little bit of a kick to it I can't even imagine what the hottest is like. Service: We went around 230pm. There were only 3 other tables there when we got there and there were no employees in sight. We stood at the front for about 10-15 minutes and were about to leave when they finally sat us. Our waitress did a better job at getting us drinks and taking our order fairly quickly, but she never once refilled our cups through the almost 2 hours we were there! She kept checking up on us every 10 minutes after we got our food but never refilled our cups. Weird. (We had maybe less than a quarter of water left in our cups, and I didn't ask because I wanted to see if she'd do it herself) While we were waiting for our food, which took about 30 minutes to get (and they brought the appetizers with our entrees...which is weird to me) there was a couple who was waiting by the front to be seated. They were standing there for 15 minutes and the guy had to ask if it was a seat yourself establishment (which it is not or doesn't seem like one) The thing is...it was a Monday in the afternoon and not busy. I guess they just stand around in the back. There's a sign that says "Smile you're on camera" yet they leave people standing at the front for a long time ?Can't they look at the cameras to see someone is there? If they were busy I guess I'd understand (I'd assume they'd have a hostess then) but they absolutely were not. The only other thing I have to say about the service is when we were leaving I noticed at the table next to us, the guy was waving his arm in the air trying to get a waitresses attention. Now this was around the time more employees came on, since new waitresses were walking around. He was waving for 5-7 minutes and 3 waitresses were just standing there, behind the bar area by a cooler just the right of the kitchen, talking. He finally got service only because another waitress was walking out of the kitchen. I'd understand if they were busy but they 100% were not. There was maybe 6 tables when we left but only a handful when we were first there. All in all yes I would return, but seriously, they need to work on their customer service, and according to other reviews I'm not the only one that thinks so. Appetizers: we had Cajun fries & fried calamari. The fries were amazing. The calamari was delicious but the texture wasn't there. I'm confident it was a fluke. Everything else that night was perfect. Dinner... I should start my food review with sharing that I'm not a seafood fan. But my whole family is. I do however love me some catfish & fries...which is what I ordered. So amazing ! Fries were cooked to perfection. Catfish was a tad bit spicy but in a throat burning way. My mouth never felt it. Each person at the table ordered different things. They were sharing food and loving it. Only complaint I heard was the struggle to get the meat from the lobster. I got the "smaller" lobster 1.5 lbs. , and a cluster of Dungeness crab, trifecta, 3 spice level. Lobster was really big! If I go again, I'd up the spice level (I like heat!). Service was a bit slow, but nothing crazy. Our bill for a party of six, 3 of us had boil bags, 1 couple shared, and 1 had chicken strips, plus a few drinks, was $387. This place was cool, young, vivrant vibe. We stayed at the Hyatt next door, so just walked over an hour prior to closing. You can autograph the wall and they played all kinds of music. The servers and host were friendly. I didn't notice much of a difference regarding safety for COVID, other than scanning a QR Code at the hostess station. They still give you menus when you're seated. Now to the food....I ordered the King crab. Would recommend and thinking about buying a pound before checkout tomorrow. I'm not sure of all of the sauces but got trifecta (wimpy) to be safe. I could've gone a little spicier. I was just nervous. Husband got the gumbo, don't ask me why I thought gumbo in Tucson would be a hit ‍. I would recommend it if your looking for a thick gravy, étouffée texture, and that's being kind. Went with a group of friends for dinner. We were disappointed in the service throughout our time there. It took a long time for our orders to be taken, to get our drinks and to get the dinner. In my case, what I had to eat was added to another person's bill. I don't know if others had that problem. They automatically added the tip (18%) to the bill also. The food choices were good. You have different options. They have the boil in the bag option where you order a pound of the chosen seafood (types of crab, shrimp and lobster) and then add the preferred sauce and level of spices. Those in our group that did that enjoyed their food. You are give a plastic bib and gloves as well a bucket to put the shells in. They have "angry baskets" with soft shell crab, shrimp, cod as options. They have some salads and sandwiches as well. I had the shrimp po boy with hush puppies. The coating was mildly spicy on the shrimp and the hush puppies and tasted good. The sandwich was on a pretty large roll-like a hoagie type and piled with lettuce, tomato, pickles sauce and plenty of fried shrimp. We requested silverware which they were out of but eventually got them. The sandwich was so loaded, it couldn't easily be closed to eat as a sandwich so the fork was helpful to eat some of the shrimp off the top first. The place has a good concept. It is large and was full of people. The food was good but they have some kinks to work out on the service for sure. read more

A friend I haven't seen in 30 years came to town and I took him to the Broadway location. What a fantastic experience! We both ordered soup and gumbo before the boil bags. The food was absolutely amazing, the crab was sweet and succulent. everything else was great too. Our server, Ashley, was hilarious and attentive. I'd come back just to sit at one her tables again. So I came in thinking this was the same chain as a place I had gone to in El Paso. Same concept, same menu. Nope: different place. I think I have been to one of these before in the Valley though. But we are not in the Valley. Someone made a miscalculation with the location here. This particular property has seen a whole range of places truck by throughout the years. Last I recall it was a weird Mexican restaurant. Meanwhile, to say the adjoining motel has gone downhill is an enormous understatement. This was never a good corner but 2022 finds it in a really bad place. So you can park and walk in to get crab and ignore the American splendor around you, but are you saved on the inside? Is the food good? I don't think I am the market for these places. I love seafood but am super picky. I grew up on the Gulf Coast. I don't eat shellfish in Tucson. So I have come to these places because they have catfish. How was the catfish? Not good. It's way too crispy and had very little actual meat. I got fries and hush puppies as sides. Frozen, but I expected that. Served with "Cajun mayo" which was orange and tasted like oil. Picked it up to go. When I came in, I was assumed to be a dasher and ignored. Took a couple of tries for them to actually get someone to go look for my order, and they seemed upset when they realized I was an actual customer and not a dasher. And I was upset that I had left a 20% tip. The place inside looks like a rundown Mexican restaurant, complete with bar that seems pretty popular. They had some employees drinking there. Seemed to be off shift, but you should probably not get drunk at your own employer while wearing your work shirt. The bar is off to the side, because the building is so old that it's from when you used to have to hide the debauchery of the bar from the rest of the diners. It's not as large as I thought it was. There is a small patio out front but no one was seated out there due to the heat. The tables and chairs seemed very cheap. Lots of big groups with bibs on. My wife wanted to check out Angry Crab, I did too but was hesitant because of some of the reviews. Her birthday, Angry Crab, here we come. Nice open roomy, atmosphere, separate bar. We ordered off the regular menu at lunch. A m-f lunch menu is available. Wife ordered a lb of fresh crawfish with corn and potato. She choose the Sweet and Tangy sauce, medium, strange tasteing almost like Chile powder but she finished all ok. I ordered the Catfish Basket which came with one large piece of cornmeal crusted deep fried fresh fish ,(excellent), Cajun fries (alot and good) and coleslaw (vinegar based) $11.00. Service was prompt. Meals came together and within 10-25 minutes of ordering. Both meals w waters came to around $27.00 before tip. May return to try happy hour. read more

When I started writing this review, my daughter's food came out and was finished by the time my wife's bucket of crab came out. I had not received my food yet (Scallop Bowl with linguini in garlic sauce and no veggies) and my drink was empty with no refill in sight. Once my food came, there was a total of 5 scallops in the whole $16 dish. They were the most oiled, bland scallops I had ever consumed. My wife's crab bucket was in the same sauce and, to me, were also bland. Personally, I want flavor in my dish. I don't order spicy in restaurants because it equates to bland heat. Before I ordered, I read the reviews and someone else mentioned that the cajun was hot and bland. I mean how do you mess up cajun flavorings? The atmosphere is pretty good. The music is fun (currently playing "Waterfalls" by TLC and there were lots of other good music playing). Other customers seem happy but the waitstaff seemed busy and forgetful, the food came out at wrong times, and it is pretty loud (so that I couldn't hear my wife across the table from me). If you want a loud atmosphere with good music and bland, oily food, then by all means come here to The Angry Crab. Otherwise, there are much better (and more affordable) options here in Tucson. read more

We had to flag down our waitress multiple times to refill our drinks, our appetizer came out with our food, our Boil was missing the sausage. Our waitress never came back to see how everything was. The only time we saw her was when we'd flag her down to get a drink refill... it took about 30 mins of us waiting to get our check even though we asked 3 times for it. It was not busy, we could see our waitress standing there talking. The whole time we were there. I hope the new location has better service. And it's never cooked properly I've had to ask them to remake it 3x for being undercooked ( what are you trying to kill me ) ? Exaggerating obviously but it's seriously concerning! Here's another trifecta for you - crowded, expensive, and poor quality seafood. I was so excited for this place because the closest Cajun seafood boil restaurant is in Phoenix. Now I'm just disappointed. Let me just say crawfish and donuts are my favorite foods. Every birthday I have donuts for breakfast then for dinner eat some cajun boiled crawfish with friends. I'm sad that I'll have to keep driving the 3 hours to Phoenix. First of all the location is incredibly inconvenient. You must be south bound on I-10 to access the lot. Second of all the prices are exorbitant. I get it - it's not crawfish or crab season. And it's not like Tucson is a port city. But damn, $40 for 3 pounds (including shells) - you should just punch me in the head so I forget I ever wanted to come here. Third, the seafood was so bad. Like sitting on a dock for three days festering under the sun unattended bad. The crab meat was mushy. The crawfish was rubbery in both texture and taste. The oil-based seasoning is the only thing that had a chance of saving that food. Finally, it's way too crowded. The parking lot was full when I came in Friday at 7 pm and the wait for a table was 30-45 minutes. Lame. Sorry yeeps of Tucson. Angry crab is just not worth your time, money, or stomach. read more
