Best vegan Mediterranean dinner I've ever had! Immediately when walking in, the decor of the restaurant felt grand. The staff were also friendly and accommodating. The food was overall delicious. We had the 3 dip mezze combo of Taramasalata, Fire Roasted Eggplant, and Hummus Masabacha with the Layered Herb Bread. We then had the Crispy "Lamb" Cigars and the Kofta Kabob, and finally the Ekmek Kataifi for dessert. The dips were truly the stars of the show. They were great to eat with the bread but also with the lamb and kabob. My main criticism would be that while both the lamb and kabob were well-seasoned, on their own they were quite dense and not well balanced with the sauces they came with. I'd give this place 10 stars if I could! My girlfriend and I came here for our anniversary and we had a great experience. The service was perfect -- everyone was attentive and friendly, but not overly friendly in a way that seems fake. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and helped us work around a food allergy. The food was INCREDIBLE. Everything was really flavorful and fresh. My bf (non-vegan) and I went to this restaurant the day before valentines. Being that we were the first guest it was empty. We had a reservation as well which is recommended. The pita is made fresh in the oven so it is definitely worth the money and the "caviar" dip was tasty just the right amount of flavor. I particularly am hit or miss with beets. The citrus in the salad mixed w beets was amazing, but I personally only like beets in juices, so that was my least favorite dish, still good flavor pairings. The chicken skewer tasted a bit realistic I had my bf try and he loved it as well. We felt with everything we ordered we could've left out ordering the potatoes, which are my second least favorite dish. One piece was undercooked so I decided not to finish. The mushroom skewers were juicy, and I enjoyed the texture, im not a big fan of mushrooms but did enjoy this meal. The lamb poppers are a MUST! I am in love with the food here, and so was everybody else at my table, including the meat eaters. We were lucky to try lots of things, including the dip mezzes, the bourek, salmon tartare and dolmas, and the lamb and chicken kebabs. Skip the salmon, definitely get the dips, the dolmas, and the kebabs. I was told the lamb kebabs taste like real lamb (lifelong vegetarian here.) Will be dreaming about the layered herb bread for a long time, really amazing. I took off a star because it's really expensive- kebabs were $28 and had no sides, was basically a few pieces of "meat" on a skewer. They're trying to emulate middle eastern food (and did a great job taste wise) but if you go to a "regular" middle eastern restaurant it would come with at least rice. Ambiance is gorgeous, even by NYC standards. It's a great date spot. If I come back, it would be for the dips and the bread. read more

Just had the most incredible meal here. The eggplant today was I think one of the most delicious flatbread pizza like items I have ever had. The bread was soft and fluffy the toppings were so flavorful. Everything from the texture to the taste was amazing. The rose flaky pastry and cream dessert I had was one of the best desserts I have ever had. Again, the textures were fantastic the pastry was not overpoweringly sweet and very creamy. The atmosphere is something special - old world romance meets modern luxury. Anixi would be great for date night, or a meal with a group of friends at their large velvet booths. The menu is perfect for sharing - we ordered a number of dishes to share so we could try as much as possible. Started with the dip mezze (pictured) - the whipped 'ricotta' with apricots & saffron; and the roasted eggplant with mint & pomegranate with the pull apart bread and mixed vegetables. Following that we had the spinach & 'ricotta' borek (which was cut table side), 'beef' lahmacun, and the 'steak' kabob. Finishing with the rose water ice cream for dessert. Every single thing we got was so delicious it's hard for me to pick even 1. A couple of recommendations would be do not skip out on the bread it's SO worth it. Do not skip the goat cheese app (not real goat cheese) but SO good. I also got the Moussaka as my entree and really loved it. We ordered so much food and for the first time I did not leave a restaurant feeling bloated searching for my bed and for that alone I gave them 5 stars!! The ambiance is also really very nice. It makes you want to dress up nicely which I like. Service was also A+. I embarrassingly spilled my drink and broke the glass in the process and they quickly cleaned it up and gave me a new one. Amazing!! Went twice in the same week! Definitely make a reservation early because they get booked and reservations can be difficult. Once you have the reservation you are in for a great meal! As a vegan in NY, most plant based restaurants serve vegan junk food. Anixi has a variety of options that are not junk. All their dishes are flavorful and unique. We've had their spreads our favorites being the whipped ricotta and taramasalta. Of their hot mezze our favorite was the crispy lamb cigar and least favorite the artichoke tots. For entrees, their grilled chikn shish kabob is a must!! It truly looks and tastes like chicken kabobs. We tried the kofta kabob but we enjoyed the chickn more! On our second visit they had a steak entree that was amazing! It was the first time since being vegan we actually remember what steak tasted like! Their flatbreads are good however with all the other amazing food I would skip the flatbreads. Save room for dessert!!! Rose Malabi and the pistachio ice cream were our favorite. If you are a chocolate person the date cake is a must! Aside from their food the interior is beautiful! The service is also excellent- staff was able to provide detailed descriptions of all dishes. If we weren't so full we would have gotten an order to go. Then we had the Arak Cured "Salmon" which was my partner's favorite dish. We have no clue as to how they made this "not salmon" look feel and taste like salmon. It was delicious. Next on to the Chick'n Gyro Rolls. These were beautifully plated and were equally as yummy. Everything about Anixi was amazing, from food to service to ambiance. It was full on a Saturday night, but we were seated right at our reservation time for a table of two. The tables for two are small, so food is brought out about two dishes at a time. We ordered the Arak cured salmon, lamb pockets, spinach borek rolls, Chick'n shish kabob, and eggplant pide, plus the Ekmek Kataifi and pistachio ice cream for dessert. All were amazing, but my favorites were the salmon and lamb pockets, followed by the borek rolls in combination with the shish kabob, then the pide. The salmon, though tiny in portion, was packed with flavor and texture: served on pita chips, marinated to be lightly acidic but smoky and light, plus the creamy yogurt and spicy sweet harissa-- a must try. The lamb pockets were made with impossible but flavored to be earthy like lamb, some cumin spice to help with that. The roasted tomatoes and whipped butter really brought everything together perfectly. Next we had the kabob and the pide, and we ordered the borek rolls because we realized we'd still be hungry. The kabobs were pretty decent portion but don't come with rice or anything, so we ate it with the pide and later the borek rolls. The Chick'n was tender and seasoned super well, not super crisped up but smoky and great with the mint sauce drizzle. It complemented the sweet, rich pide, but went even better with the savory soft rolls. The rolls themselves were pretty mild in flavor-- just like a nice spinach flavor, soft texture (the crispy top just melts in your mouth so it's not the most texturally diverse). I would say for them to be better standing alone a little more feta flavor or roasted lemon would do wonders. But they were delicious and of course devoured. The dessert closed our meal perfectly. The Ekmek Kataifi was rich and crispy but also creamy and subtly pistachio-y. The dessert is room temp, but was excellent with cold pistachio ice cream, which cut through the sweetness and richness perfectly. I definitely recommend ordering the two together. All in all the damage came out to about $85 per person after tip and tax, and we did not order drinks. Definitely a splurge, but I would say on par with pre fixe experiences like Dirt Candy that charge even more. You should still go to Dirt Candy though. Just go here first :) read more

Feel so New York but it's vegan!! How insanely fabulous is that? Loved the food and drinks. Can't wait to go back and try everything else. The dips... taramasalata was delicious and so fun, whipped ricotta was perfect, kobacha squash was a good contrast.
