I honestly can't be mad at this place. Might be my favorite upscale Asian restaurant in the SGV. Third time visiting in 6 months and just keeps impressing me. Ordered what felt like half the menu for 5 of us and it was just delicious after delicious dish. Sean was our waiter and he was amazing. We had a private room and getting to have our conversations and enjoy each others company made all the difference. My one gripe, and I would Give a bad review because of it if the rest of the experience wasn't stellar, the room next to ours decided that they were above the law and could smoke cigarettes inside. We ended up being very uncomfortable with the smell but Sean did everything in his power to fix the problem. Will definitely be coming back soon. read more

The decor gives a very upscale vibe with dark moody lighting, artwork and waterfalls. The Peking duck lives up to the hype with the fire table side. The lobster with ginger and scallion was delicious and a favorite among the table. The chicken clay pot had wonderful flavor, however the chicken was cut where we were having difficulty bc we would get shards of bone. The service was a bit unorganized. Dishes weren't paced out properly so we kept running out of table space and then the last dish came out so much later we nearly forgot it was coming. We weren't offered to look at the dessert menu and after nearly 40 minutes of being done eating, we had to flag a waitstaff member down to request the pricey check. First off, this place isn't as bad as many reviews made it out to be haha. I was a bit scared at first but it turned out pretty good! My sis and I made reservations and the only weird thing was when we arrived, they were like we don't open until 12pm when our reservations were at 11:30am... but after that hiccup, it was good! We ordered the following: blueberry jelly-infused yam-a cute appetizer, a light little early dessert hot and sour fish with golden broth- this one is spicy haha but it was good! The fish was so so soft and smooth omg braised pork with quail eggs- one of my favorites. Very tender pork roast duck- the presentation is amazing and wonderful duck. However a bit disappointed they don't give you the rest of the duck to go, like the bones and such. It would have been great for porridge haha crispy prawns in plum sauce- crispy and better than Bistro Ana's braised pork and vegetable rice-one of my favorites. This place reminds me of Chang An in Tustin and Ji Rong Rosemead. During their grand opening promotional period, you can purchase the signature roasted Peking duck for $39; however, there's no flaming duck" presentation show-simply two plates of duck meat and the condiments (cucumber, sugar, onions, etc). We ordered the promotional pecking duck (who cares about the flame and show), jellyfish, and fish soup - all recommended items on yelp. Peking Duck - the presentation was not as enticing as Chang-An but definitely more "higher end" than Ji Rong. The duck skin was a bit thicker than Chang An so it was a bit more oily-or at least I can taste it. I preferred the duck skin thinner and crispier-personal preference. Besides the skin, it was decent. Soup - if you like szechuan style, you'll love this soup. It is a yellow broth with mustard greens and fish. I didn't like the taste as much because I was not a fan of this numbing and citrusy after taste. The fish was cooked to perfection. I just don't like the lingering aftertaste....insure if I would order it again. Jellyfish - it comes in this yuzu/soy sauce with tomatoes and cucumbers. This was my favorite and I'd definitely order it again-such a good side or appetizer dish. As for service-everyone here primarily speaks Chinese/Cantonese so it will take some time for them to find a waiter that speaks somewhat English. When I ordered, I just showed them pictures of Yelp and they confirmed it. Everything was delicious and flavorful. We were also well taken care of - staff was very accommodating to our special requests. As many have already noted, the atmosphere is tranquil and upscale. My aunt treated us to this meal at the upscale Chinese restaurant, Array 36. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by their beautiful decor and spacious seating. We sat down at the comfy booths and proceeded to order. My aunt ordered their House Special Duck, which they are currently having a special right now of buy one get one free for $98. You will get one duck now and you will you will receive a coupon to come back to get the other duck for free. It comes with all the condiments and the thin crêpe wrap. Their duck was flavorful and their wrap was light and delicate. We also ordered their fish in mustard green soup (which had Szechuan peppercorns for that bit of numbing flavor). it was a little salty for my taste but still good. We got their house special crispy shrimp, which was delicious and a must get. We also got their snow pea shoots with garlic, braise pork, Dan Dan Noodles, and house Noodles. I was very impressed with the decor and cleanliness of this Chinese restaurant. It did replicate the experience of a fine dining restaurant and the menu prices were definitely indicative of that. The Peking duck was great, flavorful, moist, delicious. Gripe was that they do not give you nearly enough side accompaniments needed to feed one person let alone two. They do offer to bring you more but at an additional cost, which draws a cheapening effect to a restaurant that wants to mimic fine dining. If the whole Peking duck (small sized, not sure if they offer different sizes but this portion sizing was for 2 ppl) costs over $120, I would like to think that the brown sugar, pears, and wraps should be enough to at least cover two people. However, the portion sizing is not consistent as some dishes ordered were much better, such as the beef slices in golden sour soup, the Shanghai crab roe in stewed tofu, and snow pea leaves. Fried rice plate could've been larger and the soups are baby individual portions and I would probably skip them. Beef slices and tofu was delicious and would def order again. Service was good but there was dirt on my tea cup and when asking for a new cup they asked for me to point out where the dirt was on the cup, and I had to awkwardly show them the multiple spots on the cup that were dirty. They tried to say it was tea leaves but again it's suppose to be a clean cup so why is there "tea leaves" on it. Unless the cup was previously used and not washed clean. Minor inconvenience. The drink prices are also quite high and not a huge variety unless you drink wine. And the actual wines on the list weren't that impressive and pretty up-charged- more than I would expect at a steakhouse like maestros or Alexander's. Additionally while they package your togo food for you, we didn't notice until the next day that they had not given us two of our leftovers. The beef slices which we had about 65% left and snow pea leaves were also leftout. Not entirely sure why those weren't in our takeout bag but I guess the staff forgot to pack them. Kinda disappointing, knowing we paid and didn't get the rest of our food. Overall, it's cool, I'd come again when I'm craving for Peking duck because the flavor was great but I'd have to wait for when I'm feeling like splurging considering I'd have to order additional sides of the accompaniments. read more

We also ordered a bamboo soup which was ... just okay if you're hungry. The service: for an expensive "upscale" restaurant, the service is absolutely terrible. The soup came out without any bowls or spoons? Just a ladle? Are we suppose to use the ladle as a bowl and share that amongst everyone? The servers took forever to flag down to get refills on tea. Empty dishes were just accumulating and there were no space for new dishes yet no servers made the move to remove the empty dishes. They just kept trying to make room for new dishes?! So we had to try to ask them to remove empty dishes but they were all pretty much avoiding eye contact. The other groups around us were complaining about the lack of service. The bathroom: I think the women's bathroom has a one broken bathroom stall so someone was standing outside trying to guard their kid. The soap dispenser was broken... just an eh experience for a supposedly upscale restaurant. So while this wasn't what I was expecting for how much everything costs, +1 star for some good food (i.e. jellyfish). The ending bill was about 400 dollars. Would I recommend this place or come back? Definitely try this place if you want the chance to taste authentic Chinese cuisine. The flavors are different than what a lot of people imagine when they think of Chinese food and in the best way. We ordered the pickled fish, the beef, a couple of their chicken dishes, the carmelized shrimp and the fried rice. They were all delicious but my favorite was probably the shrimp. They fry it with the shell on but you barely notice because the crunch of the shell and the carmelization melt as one. All their dishes are presented nicely and cleanly which I appreciate because I think it adds to the dining experience. The restaurant was very busy when we came but the servers remembered everything we asked for. The place itself is very nice and reflective of it being a fine dining place. I liked the little touches of detail like the modern art pieces near the booths of the birds on wood, the plants, the projector scenes, etc. Most importantly, order the dessert! The ambiance is very lovely walking in for a fine dining Chinese restaurant. The lovely waterfall feel and small mountain islands with mists upon opening the intricate doors is a nice touch. They made the most out of space by spiraling the tables alongside each other. The lighting feels fancy as well. Before I tried this place, my friends did warn me about the lack of service/bad service where it's not quite like American service so that's fine and expected. Our service was actually pretty exceptional and our waitress gave us a lot of attention due to the 1.5 hr wait for the duck. We did hear the table next to us complain about the lack of service. When it comes to food, there were a few amazing dishes that got my hopes up from the bat like the yuzu jellyfish. I did go heavy on ordering lots of Shanghai dishes since I was born there and lived there. The braised pork was very tender and nice and the eel was perfection. The plum crispy shrimp had good interesting flavor, but the crisp wasn't perfect and we got this from the duck as well where they didn't give it a chance to crisp up and it ended up being oily instead. The wraps for the duck were very soggy, the duck sauce was not my favorite, and the portion is tiny for the price and wait. The squab flavor was not bad, but very dry compared to other restaurants in the area. The 蟹粉小笼包 did not use real crab meal and had a weird five spices taste to cover that up. The 生煎包 is so unauthentic it's a joke, just go to Kang Kangs. The lotus root is overly cooked and too soft but the osmanthus sauce is ok. The blueberry yams, yogurt bunny mousse are cute but not worth the price. Overall, the ambiance and service are highlights while the food was hit or miss. Not worth the price point for us and we don't see ourselves coming back. read more

I love the very clean and thoroughly planned interior design of the place. For public health safety, I enjoyed how they have two different set of chopsticks- one white pair for grabbing food and one black pair for eating. -Food came in a normal/decent amount of time. First, we ordered sea cucumber with thousand year old egg, yuzhu jelly fish, the spicy garlic shrimp, the peking duck, crab noodle, and crab steam egg. Lets start with the expensive stuff: The spicy garlic shrimp. The shrimp was mushy. It was not fresh. The peking duck. It was dry and gamey. We actually send it back. Never had gamey smell peking duck all my life. The jelly fish was touch and the yuzhu flavor was overpowering The sea cucumber with thousand year old egg was had almost zero sea cucumber. The duck was split into two plates for each of us to enjoy, nice classy touch. The yam and pumpkin vegetarian dish was good too. Laura was our server and she took care of us with exceptional service. We enjoyed the light music in the background and the corner booth seating was very comfortable and appreciated. Array 36 brings a new elevated, fine Chinese cuisine to the area not more than a few blocks from Bistro Na. It's a spacious restaurant with a bit of Vegas opulence flair that has a decent menu mixed with classics such as duck (reserve in advance if you can, more easily if you book a private room; otherwise get the duck at lunch as dinner will be difficult), pork belly (flavorful, good level of sweetness), fried shrimp (very delicious and loved the crisp outer texture and moist shrimp) and more. I expected service to be rough based on prior reviews but they must have stepped it up (or it being a week night) but our servers were great, attentive, and nice. Pacing was good outside of dessert (they have a durian dessert that's styled well and great if you're into durian). Plenty of plaza parking though can be busy (same plaza and ts emporium and oo kook). read more
