This place is the definition of hole in the wall. You walk in and there's only about ten stools for customers and the other half of the room is the kitchen. Art's cafe is not only a place for break, lunch, and a few select Korean food items, it's a place where you can watch a show! The Korean couple who have been here forever and the other workers they have slide seamlessly around each other to take orders and cook food in all but about two feet of aisle space!! I ordered the tofu juru which is four slices of tofu topped with marinated beef and comes with rice and a side salad or kimchee. The sauce they gave me complimented the tofu and beef very well. Even without it, the beef itself was pretty flavorful. It was a big portion and I'm always stuffed every time I leave. Super affordable as well because most dishes are under 10 dollars! Parking can be hard on the weekends so I would recommend coming in the early hours in the morning to avoid the hassle. This place is cash only! read more

This is not specially designed or a high-end Chef's table - it's just a result of limited space (think similar style to Swan Oyster Depot here in San Francisco, which is also able to deliver awesome food and service in spite of space issues!) Look no further for great breakfast food. Art's Cafe may be small but the food is mighty. We had their Chef's Special omelet and Grilled Banana French Toast and both were YUM. Yes, all-caps YUM! The Chef's Special omelet was flavorful, not greasy and the combo of meats it had were just right. My meal came with a crunchy (as requested well-done) hash brown and toast. The Grilled Banana French Toast was just as good even though I went without the whipped cream. Plus it came with walnuts! If the rave food review doesn't convince you, then knowing they have super friendly workers should. It was a busy Saturday so we knew to be patient and the wait was okay. Amazing hole-in-the-wall diner run by a lovely family. My friend took us here on our first visit to SF nearly 4 years ago, and neither of us forgot this place in the years since. My partner and I moved to the West Coast this year, and the first thing we did when returning to SF was eat back here! The hash browns are ENORMOUS -- the potatoes are shredded so finely and griddled to a perfectly-even golden-brown. There was just the right amount of hash layered over the contents (vegetables and/or meat of your choosing!), without the potatoes becoming too overwhelming and dense. This is a wonderful family run business - so friendly and most important so concerned about the customers - and let's not forget the food is great! They fully accommodated all of my allergies - which is so hard to do at breakfast. He worked with me and we created a plate that I can eat. He realized that the oil he uses was on my allergy list so he cleaned his grill before cooking my food. In talking to them, they have a separate grill for customers who do not eat meat so this type of accommodation is quite natural for this family. I loved being able to eat a tasty, hot breakfast. They incorporate Korean dishes into their meals which made their dishes a little bit more interesting. They have usual breakfast items such as eggs, bacon, hash browns. How fun is this place?! Get ready for nostalgia to hit when you walk in. It brings back classic diner vibes with coat hooks on the wall. And a long narrow walkway with counter seating only. You can watch the cook whip up your meal right in front of you. Classic diner foods meets Korean twist! I was able to order tofu bi bim bop! Finally I've been wanting this dish so bad but no one makes it without meat! I was so happy to have this dish. It was a nice big bowl of rice, vegetables, tofu and fried egg on top. Add the sauce on top and you are in heaven! It was so incredibly good! My bf was eyeing their hash brown burgers. Basically meat wrapped in a thin crispy hash brown blanket served with a side of butter toast and two eggs. I had a piece of the hash brown and it was really good. Fried on the flat top to a real crisp texture to hold the meat. Speedy service and great food. Doesn't get better than this. If you want classic diner food with a Korean twist come here. Inside seating is bar-style where food is prepared in front of you on the grill. Currently as of 3/16/21, the inside seating is limited to 25%. I enjoyed how the food is freshly cooked on the grill in front of you. Very clean food prep area. The owners were very attentive, helpful, and great to talk to. The menu was easy to follow, and prices were great! I love how they offer a choice of rice or hash browns with breakfast. I got both, because I like rice, & hash browns. The hash browns here were really good! The owner said they prepare it fresh, instead of using frozen/pre-made, and it definitely makes a huge difference as the hash browns were very tasty & cooked perfectly! Ordered the vegetarian omelette, and I enjoyed every bite of it. The vegetables were fresh, including the avocado. The portion was more than enough. We also got the pancakes & toast. The no-frills-great-tasting pancakes were fluffy & delicious. I would definitely recommend this cafe for breakfast! We'll be back not only for breakfast, but next time for lunch, so we can try out their Korean entrees! Great staff. It's a multi generational Korean and Korean American run restaurant with both American breakfast all day and also lunch and Korean items. Very friendly, good food, and beyond reasonable priced in a classic one row diner style bar seating. Connected with the mother as have spent quite a bit of time in Seoul. Service (.5 star): I came here on a Saturday morning and the wait wasn't too bad, I think we were arriving at the end of breakfast/brunch rush. We came with our pet so we requested outdoor seating - only really had to wait maybe 8-10 minutes, great. However, they have 3 tables that are directly in front gas powered heaters and 4 tables that are not. We kindly asked the waiter (before our food was out) if we could have one of the heated tables that a family had just left. The waiter checked the list and said that they couldn't because a party of 3 was going to be taking the table. I completely understood, those tables were larger (sat 4 people) and should probably be saved for larger parties. HOWEVER, it really irked me when not more than 2-5 minutes after I asked, the waiter sat 2 more parties (which came after us) in the other two heated tables which were both parties of only 2, like my partner and I. Other than that, the two waiters that alternated between our table's were friendly. Food (2 stars): I got the side order of pancakes with an order of ham, eggs, and hash brown. The eggs and ham were okay, nothing special. The hash browns were very crispy which was nice but I feel like they could've left them drip a little more because the amount of oil still soaked into them made it feel overly greasy compared to usually hash browns at other establishments. The pancakes were very good, light fluffy, and buttery. My partner had ordered the waffles and we both agreed that we should've just stuck to more pancakes. Ambiance (.5 star): It's very much a classic diner type of establishment. Nothing fancy but also didn't feel like it needed to be. I did appreciate that the table we had was clean - I know how difficult those outdoor steel patio tables can be to clean. Overall 3/5. I feel like the service might've just had a hiccup and maybe the hash browns weren't the best because of the end of the rush. All in all, if I went back I would stick to the pancakes or give another menu item a chance. The hash sandwiches sounded interesting, especially the bulgogi one. read more

This is amazing rare breakfast place that I have found in SF. When I first came I can feel here is the real original homemade breakfast. This is a very small shop and can be considered as a hole in the wall. Definitely a local commodity and luckily my friends were able to get here before a huge line showed up so we only had to wait 10 minutes. A really nice lady who I believe to be the owner or at least one of the owners came to take our order and I wasn't really paying attention so when she asked how I wanted my eggs, I accidentally said medium rare because I thought she was referring to the bulgogi which is weird overall because no one really asks how they want their bulgogi and I ended getting a subtle punch for not paying attention. I actually took no offense to it and I thought kind of funny and after that I had that homey feeling to the place. The place overall isn't large and essentially is long counter with seats. You are able to watch the cooks make the food right in front of you. I got an order of the Barbecued Beef that came with kimchi and rice and another order containing hash browns and scrambled eggs. The portions I thought were pretty fair and well done and all tasted well.
