I saw HealthyishDani talk about this place right before they opened and I've been wanting to try it ever since. FINALLY one day we were in the area at lunch time. I want to shout it from the rooftops, "THIS IS HOW YOU DO PIZZA"! I'm not Italian but was raised in an Italian household due to my stepfather. So Italian food is my love language. So you buy the pizza by the slices and they have certain kinds made. I think you can also order a custom one but anyway back to the slices, or should I say squares. This pizza was perfection! Crispy bottom but the crust wasn't paper thin. The crust was delicious and the ingredients were quality, you could taste it. And don't get me started on that sauce, this is wasn't an average pizza sauce. It was flavorful and could easily hold it own. Like someone's Nonna was cooking it up on a Sunday. The Spinach and Garlic one was so delicious as well. I usually steer away from white sauce pizza because they're often not much more than Alfredo sauce smeared on the crust. Not this one, it was garlicky and flavorful just like a good white sauce should be. I also eyed a loaf of fresh baked bread and asked if I could buy one and also grabbed a frozen container of pesto sauce. At this point I'll say that it's clear this place is still figuring some things out, and that the order/payment process isn't the clearest situation. The young man who took our order only seemed to be paying about 50% attention, and not just to us - there were maybe ten customers total there when we were and he kept trying to give the wrong items to the wrong people (including us) and didn't know who was eating in vs taking it to go. He also had to ask the men who were trying to cook for clarification on things more than once. That said, while I was originally excited to hear about Augusta Pizza, when I saw the pizza prices on their online menu I was hesitant *at first*. HOWEVER, I'm glad I decided to give it a try anyway because their pizzas are HUGE. Between that and the quality, more than worth the price. I had a vodka sauce pizza and it was delicious. My stepkid ordered rigatoni with vodka sauce and also enjoyed his dish. The restaurant itself is clean and they offer quite a few shakers of different toppings at the tables. I think if they can get a bit of a better handle on either, I don't know, employee training and/or their ordering/payment system this could really be a go-to pizza place! read more

Went here with my family on a Friday night and it wasn't super busy which was nice. We ordered 4 slices of pizza and a chicken parm sandwich inside and sat outside to wait. It took a pretty long time to get our food and when it finally came out, everything was just ok. Sauce on the pizza was really sweet, cheese and the rest of the toppings were bland. Chicken parm on the sandwich was thin and rubbery. If you're looking for huge slices of pizza to feed a crowd, this might be a good option but we will likely not be back. read more

Adding a new review after trying their NY style pizza. It would compete on par any day with any great NY pizza place. Excellent pizza. I talked with the owner. Very passionate about the quality of the dough and ingredients. Different flour for all their different pizza styles (Roman, Chicago, NY and now tavern too which is very thin crust it looks like. I can't say enough of how friendly the staff are. I love they have different pizza by the slice regularly. Ask what's on a new slice you haven't tried before. Break out of your norm toopings and try a slice of something new. I live am hour away and when in Greenville this is my only go to now. read more

As a frequent pizza consumer by default (having an 11-year-old basically makes it a food group in our house), I've eaten a lot of pizza around Greenville, and Augusta Street Pizza stands out in a big way! This is the kind of place that actually understands authentic Italian-style pizza, starting with the crust. The flour is imported from Italy so it's clean, too. No glyphosate, not enriched (so no folic acid.) It's perfectly cooked; light, airy, and structured without being doughy or underdone in the center like so many pizzas around here tend to be. No soggy middle, no raw-tasting bite, but instead a balanced, well-baked crust that holds the toppings without flopping. The sauce tastes fresh instead of overly sweet, the cheese is used thoughtfully (not piled on like a greasy blanket), and everything feels simple and high quality rather than overworked. It's the kind of pizza where each ingredient matters. I also had the joy of meeting one of the owners, Nick, and he welcomed me like I'd been coming in for years even though it was my first visit. My wife and I tried Augusta Street Pizza on Augusta Street in Greenville, South Carolina. Their tag line is "Roman-Style From Scratch." The little venue is in the corner of the strip behind the New York Butcher Shoppe and two doors down from Chicken Salad Chick on one of the most congested roads in Greenville. There's a big mural of their logo: an ancient Roman eating a square slice. I hope it's Augustus. The art is pretty well done. A Finley piece, it looks more crafted than clip art. All white walls and surfaces. Their text type logo (complete with a silhouette of the colosseum ruins) along with black paint line art with some deep (pizza sauce) red highlights. Economy of line. Love it. They even snuck in a Tiger and a Gamecock for the locals. (No Trailblazer, Paladin, nor Bruin.) When you walk in, you're immediately greeted by owners Carmine, Nick, and Peter. Three completely and totally authentic New Yorker Italians. Deese guys! Fortunately for them, they are also great with customers and kids, so they should acclimate to the Greenville sensibilities. Fortunately for us, they brought their family recipes, ethic and ethnic strengths, and make "da pies" right there in front of you. It's a snug shop. The pizza prep area is wide open for you to see the magic and takes up more than half the floor space. There are a few small red metal tables inside along the walls and a few tables outside on the sidewalk. "Roman-Style?" Okay, full-disclosure, I'm a southside Chicagoan, born and bred. We will fight you over good versus great pizza. I actually ate at the place that started the wrongly named "Chicago Style" deep dish pizza. It's a fine alternative, but real Chicagoans know "Chicago Style" is crispy, thin crust, covered in a tangy sauce, loaded with Italian sausage, and buried under a blanket of mozzarella cooked until golden brown on top and just a tiny bit scorched on the ends. Then cut into square pieces. As the owner of the iconic Vito & Nick's Pizzeria on Pulaski told Guy Fieri, "If ya wahnt bread, I'll maykyah bread, if ya want peetzah, the crust is thin like a crackahr!" Roman-Style is "pizza al taglio" (pie by the cut). You'll know it by the rectangular shape, similar to Sicilian but with a crust sometimes called "scocchiarella" for "crackling." It's a little hard on top, crispy on the bottom, but very airy and fluffy on the inside. This was a fine a crust! At Augusta Street, the front counter is all glass with their regular pies ready to cut you a slice and throw it back in the pizza oven to properly heat up again. You order at the counter, grab a can of Coke product from the cooler behind you for $1.50 each (or wisely spring for the two-liter for $4.50), wait for your pizza to be crafted, eat, and THEN pay. Augusta Street offers ready to eat choices by the slice. If you build your own pie, you pick your sauce: Tomato, Vodka, or Pesto. Pick your cheese. Then the standard meat & veggie offerings. The slices run $5 to $6.50. A whole medium starts at $33. A large pie starts at $40. There are also some pasta dishes starting at $13.99: And daily specialty sandwiches. Sides starting at $11.99. And a colorful rotating selection of Gelatos! One scoop for $3, two for $6. We figured we could get a medium sausage for $37 and take home some. It was ready in about 15 minutes. I'm guessing the wait was because there were only two empty tables when we got there at 4:40 pm on a Tuesday! The crew was working hard and fast on the orders. The pie that came to the table next to ours was so big, that's when we realized one: we'd have to move to a larger table and two: the "take some home" became "take five slices home." The pie got done, the worker said he was "giving itta coupla minutes t'cool off." Then he cut it with scissors (!) into square slices, each, I'm guessing, about 6"x6". Thick crust, thin layer of sauce, cheese, and hot sausage slices. We were given the choice of sweet or hot. The big metal plate came to our table with paper plates to serve ourselves. Carmine, Nick, or Peter asked if we needed anything else, we said no, and he replied, "Well if ya do, raise your hand, wave, or look over at me. I'll be watching for ya." Speaking my language. It was Yankee. It was familiar. It was sincere. Deese guys are here to serve you good food. The sausage slices were thick and cooked on top. The sauce was a thin layer, not a more soupy Sicilian kind. The cheese was fine, not as much as I'd like, but still had a good pull. The crust was like a hefty slice of homemade, straight from the oven loaf. Crusty, chewy, fluffy. By the second piece, I had the choice to be done or to be hurting. So, this morning, I had pizza for breakfast! Probably two more lunches as well! With tax, our meal was $43.20. The parking is a little tight, being a full-up strip mall. First off, I was dying to try this place. I called in an order for two subs. The lady asked me the same questions three times. Then she said it would be 40 minutes! I came in 30 and my food was already cold. One sub was $13.99 and the other was $14.99. It took her over four tries to type the order into the computer. Then she said my bill was $39.10! 4 people waiting to order, so I gave her $41.00 and said to keep it. The subs were served on pizza crust sliced in half-A little hard to eat without creating a mess. The sauce was very salty and one of the workers was eating a piece of pizza as he was serving out the food. I am not a complainer by nature. I hope they make it. They still don't have their online ordering set up. I hope they take my feedback to heart and work on making for a better experience or next time will be my last time. read more

It's a new concept for Greenville, but the food is "old country" good! The pizza is absolutely amazing. The crust differs from what we are used to in this area. The owners are very personable and are right there to make your visit enjoyable. The ambiance reminds me of being back in NYC. I highly recommend you give this place a try. read more
