The restaurant was not clean, the flies were bad. The frozen margaritas was more orange juice than margarita!! The street tacos were 1 very thin tortilla That you absolutely could not pick up! The onions were green onions cut up NOT grilled! NO THAnKs!

I've been here a few times but this last time takes the cake! This carne asada salad hit the spot! It is filled with beef, chicken, avocado, black beans, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and I topped mine with ranch dressing and that was the perfect dressing! I got this salad to go in the drive-thru and honestly I wasn't expecting a drive-thru salad to be great but this salad went beyond my expectations. Very filling, every bite full of flavor, lots of texture, they definitely didn't chinch out. Very quick service, I didn't have to wait very long. I have never been inside but I'm sure it matches the outside, which is very well manicured, flower bushes, and very colorful and inviting. I love Ay Chiwawa!

I just wanted to have a quick bite and I went through the drive thru. This was my first time and it was easy to order and there is better prices during lunch. I was there after 5pm so it's dinner menu. There is a great selection. The person at the drive thru was nice. I ordered and waited for the order. I enjoyed the food at home and it was great food. The green sauce was delicious better than the red sauce. I recommend this spot!

This is an amazing place to visit. This was my first time here, and I was very impressed. The service was amazing. Taste like my grandmother's cooking, brought back a plethora of memories. I had the tacos which were very good. The ice tea is spot on!! If you are in the area I encourage you to stop by, and give this place a chance. It is off the 1604 access rd on the way to Walmart and Costco.

Solid Mexican food in casual environment. Nice bar with sports on the TVs. Complimentary chips and salsa. Solid queso and a nice smokey salsa - they also have a mild salsa but I think it is too sweet. Handy location in front of walmart at 281/1604.I ordered the enchaladas de crema and they were fantastic! My husband ordered steak, potatoes and eggs ( it has a name but I don't recall it). Unfortunately the steak ordered rare and delivered a bit overcooked. He just ate it, did not talk to manager. Service is always good with friendly waitresses who check on you regularly.

Delicious food and very affordable. Lunch specials are unbeatable for what they offer! My wife and daughter really like this place.

Mango Chamoy Margarita

We dined at At Chiwawa Mexican Restaurant on 1604/281. The food is consistently very good and fast service. I ordered the chicken enchiladas con crema. The chicken was shredded fine and tender rolled in a soft corn tortilla, covered with a savory crema sauce topped with cilantro. My husbands beef enchiladas were moist, filled with plenty of seasoned ground beef, rolled in corn tortillas and topped with chili gravy and melted cheese. The rice and beans were both tasty. Our sons Al carbon tacos were diced finely and were tender. We both enjoyed our adults beverages. My mango Chamoy margarita was quite thick with swirls of liquid Chamoy and served with a Chamoy candy straw. Winner winner, very good and traditional Tex-Mex dinner!

Guisada Taco

Price gouging is an understatement! Very disappointed. The only positive thing I can say is the lemonade is the only reason to stop but other than that I should have gone somewhere else for tacos.

Sadly, this used to be my favorite place for quick Mexican food. However, the service is a little less impressive compared to before and the portion sizes have dwindled. As usual, ordering is quick and easy and paying is just a tap away with the little mobile tool they use. However, the staff doesn't come as often to check on you and they don't seem has happy or excited to serve you as before, adding to an overall lowered service experience. Note also that previous photos showed extras like lettuce and tomatoes that they no longer include. The chips servings are also smaller so be prepared to ask for more chips.

Just ate here.. ordered tex Mex enchilada plate and a margaritas on the rocks. Margarita tasted like lemon juice on the rocks, it wasnt drinkable. Enchiladas... lower mid at best. App was nachos... these basement level... just being real. Place mid

We ordered chips and salsa ($1.99) they came quickly. The salsa was tasty and not too spicy. I had Shrimp Nachos. There were plenty of them, lots of cheese and the guacamole was excellent, not a lot of stuff added to it. My husband had Carne Asada. It came with beans, tortillas and cheese enchilada. When he asked about barracho beans, Anthony brought them right away. The ice tea was strong and tasty and he kept our glasses filled. Everything was flavorful and beautifully presented. The building is new. It's very open with high ceilings, lots of windows and cement floors. There was plenty of outdoor seating. There were only a few parking spaces by the entrance. There was free parking on nearby side streets or paid parking in lots behind the restaurant. We would definitely go back when in San Antonio again. The drink menu looked fun! And they have a rooftop bar.

I didn't need extra fat from avocado after the corn cakes since it doesn't add much flavor to the dish. The corn cakes are good and I will order again but not as good as some other cornbread. It came with 2 cakes. One was undercooked and one has a crispy crust. The undercooked one was my favorite. It is more moist with soft in the middle. Tuna Al Pastor has a kick but nothing special. Tres Leches was beautiful. 4/5. I like the fresh fruits to cut down the sweetness. The cake was a bit in the dense side. The icing on top was thick. I wish it was a fluffy whip cream to cut down from all the sweetness. Overall it's still a better tres leches than other places in the area.

We kicked things off with the Diablitos, bacon-wrapped chicken with just the right amount of serrano heat, paired with a rich red salsa that had us reaching for "just one more bite." The Huitlacoche Empanadas were another standout, with crisp blue corn shells surrounding a creamy, comforting filling that was both earthy and slightly sweet. For the main course, the Tex-Mex Deluxe was everything you hope for: a mouthwatering pork tamal, two perfectly cheesy enchiladas, and tender, flavorful beef fajitas. We also ordered the Tacos de la Casa, and the fish was incredibly fresh, moist, and seasoned beautifully. Every plate felt like it had been made with care. Of course, no meal at La Fonda is complete without drinks. We spent the evening sipping what may be the best sangria in San Antonio, along with fresh, perfectly balanced margaritas that paired wonderfully with every course. A special shoutout goes to Mel, who made an already great meal exceptional. Her recommendations for both the food and drinks were spot on, she was attentive without ever hovering, and she genuinely made us feel like valued guests throughout the evening. To top it all off, we dined in the gorgeous courtyard. With its lush landscaping, charming atmosphere, and relaxed ambiance, it's one of the most beautiful patios in the city and the perfect setting for a leisurely dinner.
