Glad I got to come to this Scottsdale hotspot. The decor was awesome, It's like a fancy nightclub. The lights made it look like you were surrounded by the night sky. The drinks here were nice and strong with some nice flavor follow through. The Maple Bacon Rye had a nice sweetness once you let the bacon sit in that whiskey. The Summer set cocktail was delicious through and through. The food was a refreshing twist on some classics. The chicken was good but the dip that came with it was even better. I haven't had a citrus coleslaw before but it was accompanied by it and it was delicious. I will say, the ceviche was a bit salty but all the other elements tasted good. I finished everything off with a strawberry shortcake. I through my diet out the window for that one but I had to have it. It was worth every bite. read more

Came here for a friend's birthday dinner. My first impression was that it looked super fancy with the large windows, dim lighting, and decor. It was on the more expensive side and I feel like you're paying for the ambiance more than quality. I got the chicken calabrese, which is a chicken sandwich with mushrooms, bell peppers, and onions. It also came with same veggies and fries. It was a good chicken sandwich, but at $14, I did not feel like it was 3-4x better than a fast food chicken sandwich. We had a large group, and I think our server handled that well, but we also got some unnecessary attitude (ex: my bf said he was good with just water, and the server said something like "well, the water is right there" (it was already on the table) in a tone like he was annoyed that he didn't order alcohol). There's a parking garage next to the restaurant (we didn't know this beforehand so we had to drive all the way around) so that's convenient. Given the service and prices here, it's unlikely I would come back. read more

Had an awesome dinner. Our server was AMAZING (I forgot his name). We sat on the patio and had a great view of the nice pavilion. We started with Hell's Fire Chips. These were prepared as stated, the bleu cheese was a little strong for those of us at the table. We ordered entrees, 2 cheeseburgers, 1 hamburger and the AZ88 chicken sandwich. All came with waffle fries and fresh fruit. Everyone enjoyed their food and the atmosphere was superb. This place is really about ambiance. We ordered the Golden Gate Cake for dessert. Absolutely love this restaurant but the manager Tim is an absolute A**Hole. I have worked in far too many restaurants to understand costumer service not only as a server but a server,host, busser, expo and Private event server & when I tell you he lacked every quality in a manger FOR A RESTAURANT is insane. We allllll know restaurant managers are miserable with their lives but to take it out on innocent guest is uncalled for. I came into AZ88 with some friends and had moved inside from the patio, we were sitting for about 10 minutes & still weren't greeted by a new server, I had asked Tim if we could get some help and he replied "you just sat" I said "no, actually We've been here for 7-10 minutes waiting, can we just get a server to order some food please" and he replied with "probably not" and walks away. Completely uncalled for and so unprofessional. I work for a FOX CONCEPT & TopGolf, I know my 33 steps of standards with service and managers. TIM should have never been hired as a manager, he is clearly incompetent & needs help. read more

My absolute favorite restaurant in phoenix, Scottsdale area. It is my go-to night out place for some good food and drinks! Firt of all, I am not a huge burger person but you must try their burger. Hands down the best burger I have had. They have a great selection for appetite, and cocktails. So far, all the food I have tried there have not disappointed. For appetizers, love their ceviche, and bacon wrapped scallop potatoes. Oooh also best waffle fries in town imo! For their martinis... please do not drive lol these martinis are bigger than your usual martinis and they are very tasty! My favorites are St. Germaine, Espresso, and side car. Best espresso martini I have had! Just expect to wait depending on when you visit the restaurant. Although there is a wait every time I go on Fridays or Saturdays. It is worth the wait and there are close by places you can have drinks at while waiting. Also, love that you can see where you are in line, when they text you about the wait time. There was one time I was not happy with the service as my server was not attentive and just kept passing despite me trying to approach the server every time she was nearby. I've always loved AZ88, but today I had the strangest and most disrespectful experience. My mom and I ordered a round of espresso martinis by the bar when a nice woman around my mom's age started making small talk with us. When she finished cashing out, she made a joke to my mom that she better grab her spot even though it was warm since it was so busy. My mom sat down and I continued to stand when the bartender gets our attention and asks her to get up from the chair. I thought he was trying to make some sort of joke but then a man came up told my 60+ year old mom to get off of "his seat"!!!! It was so weird. I told him to not touch me (hand on my lower back, ew) and that we were already half way done w our drinks anyways and only needed a few more minutes but that I was not going to tell my mom to get up for him. He said he was "being nice" but that he would "make her" get up and he went back to the bartender where they both were looking at us, making comments, and pointing. The bartender came BACK to us and said it was first come first serve, to which I said yes, and looks like we've been here and we were here first, correct? We were literally talking to the woman in the seat prior. The whole vibe changed and it was so uncomfortable. I cannot imagine my dad or any grown man I respect randomly going up to a woman and telling her to move the way both the bartender and this guy did. I could maybe try to understand if we had swooped in last minute but we were there sipping on our drinks for a good 20 minutes prior to sitting. The fact that AZ88 was not only okay with some guy trying to kick my mom off her chair, but that the bartender encouraged it is unacceptable. Embarrassing behavior from both of them. TLDR: Random man told my 60+ year old mom to get up from her chair so he could sit and we thought it was ridiculous and the BARTENDER also told mymom to get up from her seat. A couple of us also split the Club Sandwich - there's an option to upgrade for $3.00 and get double the sides (fries, veggies and fruit) which made splitting the meal a perfect amount of food for what we were looking for. Since we were there early in the evening, the sun was still mostly out but we did get a glimpse into what it may look like at night and it seems like it would be a very fun spot! My friends burger was good and I tried the St Petersburg potatoes with salmon, sour cream, cucumber and onions. It was a light snack that wasn't too heavy and helped to offset the martini which I appreciated. Service was super friendly and kind as well as ample parking in the garage nearby. AZ88 is such a fun spot for food and drinks. I love coming here for lunch when hanging out in old town, or grabbing drinks with friends before a night out. They have a huge variety of drinks and the martinis are fantastic-- and huge! The other drinks are great too. The food is pretty good, it is pretty simple food but they do a great job. Walking up to AZ88 I wasn't sure if I was visiting a modern art museum or a restaurant. Tall and prominent glass windows and high ceilings give the interior a bright feel while the sculpture garden, visible through them, brings the outdoors in. I thought I was in for a real treat. An open and modern restaurant like this should surely have a fresh menu, but alas, that was not the case. A page of starters, comprised mostly of dishes based on fries or chips, was followed by burgers, salads, chicken sandwiches and a few entrees, all of which were fairly predictable and common place. If I'm being completely honest, I was actually caught off guard by the menu. I ended up ordering the Burger Au Poivre II which has Burgundy red onionsauce, blue cheese and thick cut bacon. I liked the note on top of the burger section that mentioned the butcher shop they'd been buying from for years and that helped me decide. Ultimately the burger came out medium, but it was still flavorful and juicy, so I let it slide. The waffle fries were impeccably crispsnf the fresh fruit and veg garnish was a nice touch. Almost as shocked as when I saw the bartender with the blowout sporting Rayban esque sunnies with yellow lenses behind the bar. That shock was topped by the waitress who was super friendly, but in that weird diner waitress kinda way, with the accent to boot. Again, pleasant, got all the details, took great care of us, but just a bit more brash and congenial than the atmosphere would suggest. I will say I was impressed they had a cocktail menu with a large wine and beer list. The cocktails were also basic and predictable, but the prices were fair because the spirits chosen were good, not great. After we'd ordered and eaten I took note of the other diners in the room and it stated to make sense. Most looked like older folks who enjoyed cruising through this area and had been dining here for years. That again helped explained a lot for me. You won't have a bad meal here. You won't be blown away. Prices are slightly higher due to the area. read more

This was our first time here and went on a recommendation from a bartender at another local establishment. For instance, servers dressed in white/black and ties as though you are at a fancy steakhouse ye the food is all pretty simple such as different burger and sandwich options. Just very random but maybe that is what they are going for. Oh, also check out the bathrooms - a little trippy. The espresso martini and both versions of the old fashioned were all very good. We had wings and then a chip dish that just had blue cheese and hot sauce on it (basically the same dish I make after a night of drinking). Pretty simple apps but good. The food we all had was just alright - I would not come back for the food. However, it was not bad so don't want to paint that picture. We had wraps, sandwiches, and burgers - they were all ok. My husband and I were so excited to check this place out. I really loved the vibe of this place but our waitress killed it. We placed our drink order first then she came back without our drinks so we decided to place an appetizer order. The appetizers came out and still no drinks. One drink only being a seltzer water and the other a martini. When the drinks were finally delivered, I went to order our entree's and she stopped me and told me "um, no you're going to have to wait" and walked away and didn't come back for another 10 minutes. Definitely, wasn't into ordering anymore food or drinks after that. I understand there are many things that come with being a waitress as I was once one and it is not an easy position to always balance. However, I watched her happily take other orders and deliver them in a timely manner. I gave 3 stars not only due to the waitress but also because the food. We were only able to try the St. Petersburg potatoes and shrimp ceviche. The potatoes were good but could've used more salmon.
