Here was the food we ordered: - Shishitos & Brussels - Small Wings (Sichuan Rub, Dragon Sauce) - Big on the Pig - Spicy Yakisoba (w/ Mushroom Trio) - Garlic Fried Rice (w/ Chicken) The food was extremely hit or miss. The overall trend was oily - everything was super heavy. I got extremely drowsy as soon as I got home and woke up the next morning groggy and fatigued. The shishitos & brussels were mostly good, but soaked in oil. The dish could have been excellent and delicious if it wasn't so fatty. The wings with Sichuan rub could have been great as well - loved the spices. But they didn't add enough salt. Big on the Pig was solidly good, as was the Garlic Fried Rice. But the Spicy Yakisoba was the lowlight of the evening. For the main dishes like Yakisoba and Fried Rice, you can pick which protein(s)/mains you want, so after all the other meat-based dishes we decided we wanted some mushrooms and picked the Mushroom Trio. Mushrooms are delicious: the texture, the flavor, everything is awesome - when cooked right. Unfortunately, the Mushroom Trio is sliced, breaded, and deep-fried, and seemingly inadequately drained. As a result, the Yakisoba dish was swimming in oil, and you couldn't even taste the mushrooms. Biting into a mushroom slice, you got a rough, sandy texture from the flour/breading. There was no flavor, just oil. Breading also wasn't adequately salted. It was absolutely disgusting. We had to pick out all the mushrooms and that left only the oily noodles, which reduced the bowl to like 50% of the original volume. 100% recommend avoiding the Mushroom Trio. I don't know why you would ruin mushrooms like that. Service was mostly good - our waiter was friendly and super attentive to our needs. I will echo another reviewer in that ordering via QR code on Toast Tab led to a strange experience, as my drink didn't come out until after I reminded them and it was already halfway through dinner. Ambiance was meh, it was really loud and rowdy for a "tea room" experience since the kitchen is open to the restaurant you constantly heard the sound of sizzling, clanging, chefs talking to each other, etc. etc. Definitely more of a place you go to grab quick bites with friends, not a place for important conversations. For a 40 minute ticket time to get yaki soba (sub par) and 50 minutes for fried rice (barely edible unless you're so hungry you're getting light headed, which I was) with a 30% full place and they do very few take out orders this was extremely disappointing. We sat upstairs in the Tea Room and got our weekend started with the DJ (the Tea Room has a DJ every night they are open). The Tea Room's menu & ambiance satisfied our adventurous palates with Chinese inspired plates & decor. Service was solid and GM Taylor & server Caleb ensured we had everything we needed while we dined. We started with some creative craft cocktails. The Lucky Dragon came in the coolest dragon cup that could be purchased along with the drink. We had a family style dinner & enjoyed several starters & dim sum plates, including steamed barbecue pork bao buns, tuna poke, Kobe beef dumpling, & pork soup dumplings. The Char Sui Bao were made with steamed barbecue pork bao bun, oyster sauce, scallion, daikon sprouts, furikake seasoning, & sambal hoisin. The buns were nice & fluffy. The Tuna Poke was light & fresh. The Kobe Beef Dumplings were made with ground Kobe beef, crispy onions, scallion, furikake seasoning, & miso Mongolian sauce. The Kobe beef made for savory bites. The Pork Xiao Long Bao was made with pork soup dumplings, sweet black vinegar, & chili oil (I loved these). For entrees we had the Short Rib Spicy Noodle which was so good. You order on your phone and the food/drinks come out exceptionally fast. We came in at the perfect time and they had happy hour with awesome choices. The baos were all like $8.50 or something. They have a nice variety of brews, all local on tap. This was such a fun experience! Firstly: if you're looking for traditional dim sum foods, this is not the place you'd want to go!! They're more fusion, taking twists on some classics (for example, fried shu mai??). That being said, everything was still tasty, and we enjoyed all the food when we removed any expectations of traditional flavors. We came during lunch on a weekday and it wasn't too busy. The tea room upstairs is only open in the evenings and weekends, I think. Their menu is accessed online, and we ordered directly on our phone, which was actually super convenient if you're into digital menus. (Not sure if this changes from daytime to nighttime/tea room to downstairs seating). It was also nice when we wanted to add some more stuff in the middle of our meal. As one of the most thriving cities in America, what the city of Denver lacks are great dim sum restaurants. Hence, when I heard about this place from my daughter, I had been dying to come. And I finally had a chance of doing so last night (11/26/2022.) Unfortunately, despite my expectation that this place would be exactly what I was expecting, I had somewhat a disappointing dining experience. Our waiter was nice, but he pointed out (when he brought our water) that more than several items on the menu were not available and they were mostly things like gyoza/potstickers, dumplings, shumai - pretty much everything that represents dim sum. Why weren't they available? Because one of the machines in the kitchen (steamer I believe) got busted the night before was what we heard from our waiter. What?? This restaurant's menu is not very extensive to begin with so if those things were not available, our choices would be limited. So so disappointed! We managed to find something that appealed to our eyes, so we ordered Short Rib Spicy Noodle, DIY Lettuce Wrap Veggie Roll and side Jasmine rice to start our dinner to see how full we'd get with these three items. DIY Lettuce Wrap was beautifully prepared/presented and yummy but I wasn't super impressed with it. It was good enough was what I could say about it. And the Short Rib Spicy Noodle? This dish is not spicy, it's salty! To be frank, it's salt overload. I'm not prone to heartburn but this dish gave me this unpleasant burning feeling in my esophagus. I'm sorry but I will never order this plate ever again if I come back. And the reason why we ordered the side rice was because we had a strong craving for good rice, I mean Jasmine rice to be exact (by the way, this side rice is whopping $7!; I have never seen a bowl of rice this priced high at any restaurants I had dined in the past!) Unfortunately, we never got out rice; our waiter forgot about it (another disappointing thing.) I'd like to say something positive about this restaurant though because it wasn't all bad. We enjoyed our cocktails. We had Smoke and Mirrors (mezcal based) and Hakuto (coconut rum based). Both have unique ingredients, and the bartender did a great job concocting them to perfect his bartending skills. We also liked the whole concept of this restaurant we could see in its decors and interiors. It's two-story (we sat at one of the tables right in front of the bar on the 2nd floor.) I have never thought that a dim sum place could have a cool club feel to it. The music that was being played in the background was exactly that of a typical club music. It was surprisingly fitting to the mostly red interior walls. Well, I'd like to dine again when everything is operating to its fullest so that I can order and eat what we couldn't eat last night. Update (Dec 9, 2022) The manager of the restaurant reached out to me and kindly extended an offer of $75 gift card because of the not-so-great experience several weeks ago. My biggest gripe is that they told us it was going to be a 2 hour wait (you heard me) and then within 30 minutes when we were elsewhere they said our table was ready. It's a quick turnover, dim sum is fast...that host needs to be retrained or talked to about quote times. We waited in the standing area on a Sunday for a while, pounding sake and excitedly looking at the dragon they have painted on the air conditioning vent. We were seated at 7 and ordered some appetizers. We ordered the Kobe beef dumplings, the mother clucking dumplings, the cheese Rangoon W/Colossal crab, shrimp shumai, and pork xiao long bao. Everything was delicious. Each of these appetizers came with 5 dumplings air pieces. The beef dumplings were absolutely decadent. They had a rich sweet sauce and the beef was succulent. The shrimp was alright but a little small. It came with fish eggs on top which brought a nice saltiness to each tiny bite. My friends and I shared the Peking duck and holy canolli, was this duck rich. The two dips that it comes with are so flavorful! The skin is crunchy and the meat is succulent. The marrow was sweet and really good dipped in the sauces from the appetizers. Honestly a 9.5/10 and the .5 was subtracted because of the minor wait. Also, serving size was kind of small for price. About an hour before the reservation I got a call from the restaurant telling us that they had changed us to bar seating instead of our original standard seating. My wife recently had it back injury and sitting at an elevated chair causes sciatica. Because of this I told them that a bar seat would not work. Started with a yummy Bee's Knees cocktail while I reviewed the menu. I went with the spicy duck noodle soup (subbed in rice noodles vs soba) and rounded it out with a side if skirt steak. THIS PLACE!!! We actually look for any excuse to fly out to Denver because of THIS PLACE. First you face the big majestic doors as you walk up the stairs from the street. You instantly sense that something wonderful is about to happen. The booths (there's only 2) are my favorite because we order an ungodly amount of food and require the space. But I'd sit on the floor if I had to. Each floor has its own different menu. And each menu is incredibly delicious. The service is great! We love the manager Michael who got us in upstairs the first time we ever came here. Everything downstairs was full. We had no reservations for we had just flown in and didn't understand the gravity of the situation. After the host said "sorry, can't fit you in", my hubby hunted down the master and he very willingly changed our dining fate that night. We were able to experience BAO. He seated us upstairs. It was gorgeous. Dark. Almost intimidating. But worth whatever risk we were about to take because what happened next would have been worth it. Fortunately, our only real danger was over-eating which we absolutely did.
