The server Sam made the best wine pairing suggestion with my fish tacos and delivered everything with a genuine smile. The fish tacos definitely have a KICK to them! I opted for the cod as it is my favorite :) and it was so very delicious... I ate the last two bites even though I was already full. The chowder was perfection. The size of the potatoes, the amount of clams, the nuanced herb flavors, temperature... PERFECT. And they carry San Pelligrino-- best water ever. :) The outdoor patio spot is the best as they have fireplaces going and clear tvs to hang out comfortably... We arrived after 8pm, after our flight got in. It was not terribly crowded, but a few diners. There were quite a few people outside with the fire pits. We were seated inside and initially we ordered drinks to start, but our drinks never came. I had to ask a gentleman to help me, apparently the previous staff just left, and we never got our drinks. Luckily this gentleman received help and then we had a very lovely and helpful waitress, she brought our drinks and comped them! She then took our order and was very prompt. We had ordered three starters (wings, dumplings and crab cakes) with our drinks, all of which were really delicious with a nice presentation. Got another drink, which was also comped. Our experience started out horribly, but our waitress and the remaining staff made up for it! We even came back the next day, since the restaurant was attached to our hotel. And had the same waitress, who was again, very helpful, courteous and friendly. Hardly anyone was there in the afternoon. read more

Back to try BTown for their "Raw Bar Night" during Happy Hour. It's been forever since I have been out much less for Happy Hour. Two of my girlfriends attended BTown's Wednesday HH. I came for the $1.50 shucked oysters that was advertised. Not sure what to expect since I haven't been dining in since March, but over all waiting staff seem to be handling the new mask requirements pretty well. Seating inside and outside were space a part. No bar seating at the bar as in the past, but there were tables in the bar area. The Wednesday "Raw Bar Night" menu consists of $1.50 shucked oysters, fresh sushi rolls, brussels sprouts, truffle fries, ahi poking bowl all price for around $10 a plate. I was told this Wednesday menu was a new thing they were trying so it's not offer daily. Also available were their regular menu which offers certain items on their regular menu a saving of $1-$3 off during the Happy Hours(3pm- 6pm). Personally I would have like a better discount during HH ie $5-$6 plates or smaller portion if needed instead of the $8-$10 plates. Or offer the $1.50 oysters daily during HH instead of just Wednesday. Maybe even offer $1.50 Tacos on Taco Tuesdays with $5-$6 margaritas specials during HH if they want to lure in more customers during their HH. What you might "lose" in the item that draws in the customers you make up in the drinks they order while they are there. My girlfriends and I definitely ordered more drinks then what we ordered in food. Tip 1: Make reservations-- even during this covid time. HH starts at 3pm til 6pm. Tip 2: If you want patio/outside seating..MAKE SURE you make note on your reservation or call to ensure you get an outside seating. If you don't you get inside seating by default. Tip 3: Don't come in hungry---even though they may be at limited capacity, kitchen is slow getting food order out. DO NOT BE DECEIVED WITH THE HOTEL RESTAURANT ASSUMPTION. This is truly one of the best seafood restaurants in Bellingham. I was booked to stay at this hotel for 10 days. I thought the atmosphere was nice for an after work drink on the lovely outdoor patio but had no intention of dining here. Bellingham has SO many great options to explore. I met two lovely local folks and shared the fire ring with them. They told me about the chef Andrew (Tucker) being a phenomenal chef and they come here often just for his cuisine. Really? This is kind of a mediocre hotel. The restaurant has no association with the hotel. The staff- Jay, Sidney, Kate and bartender Mark. The raw bar ( Ben) is outstanding. Oysters are more pricey than happy hour joints but lovely dipping sauces. The salmon sashimi was the absolutely best I have ever had! Again pricey but out of this world, melt in your mouth. I'm embarrassed to say that I ate here so many times in ten days. I can speak to many dishes. I did get to the other very renowned establishments in Bellingham but this little joint equals all. I'm floored. The green curry salmon should come with a spicy disclaimer. The salmon comes as you wish. For me, I choose medium rare the fish melted in the mouth and spice was decadent. I also had the pan seared halibut in coconut sauce. Again. I can say this was better than any in town. Both of these dishes shocked me and this will be my go to place for fish. I likely won't stay here again at the hotel but I will come here for dinner, absolutely. Tuna poke I had three times. The sushi rolls are all worth while. The bartender Mark, the raw chef Ben, nothing but accolades here. I am still shocked and surprise and want to share how fantastic the food is here. If you're into seafood. This is top of the list for Bellingham. I might add that the team was grossly understaffed but performed admirably! read more

B-Town puts on a pretty good Happy Hour with a wide variety of tasty food items and a decent wine list and reasonable selection of local and regional microbrews. B-Town also features a full bar with some wonderful signature cocktails. When I go somewhere for Happy Hour I typically order a glass of wine wine or something on tap. Tonight, we met a friend who lives nearby and is our "go-to" guy for rating an old fashioned and he gave this one very high marks. We've met friends here half a dozen times over the last year and both the service and food quality have earned consistently excellent ratings on each occasion. B-Town is conveniently located just off the freeway and not far from downtown. They have plenty of parking and lots of comfortable seating both inside and on the patio. The Patio is well lit and the fire pits and heat lamps keep everyone toasty warm even during the winter. read more

B-Town, located in the former Poppe's Bistro location, is a nice addition to the Bellingham happy hour scene. They have tons of seating indoors, as well as a giant heated patio with firepits which is the perfect place to gather with friends for a night on the town. They have an impressive tap list, featuring lots of local beer, plus a full bar (yes, they still have martini's like Poppe's was famous for). But my favorite-favorite-favorite thing to order here is their calamari! Only $8 during happy hour, this is my go-to. It's a huge dish, best shared with friends unless you're super hungry. The calamari is cooked to perfection and is super tender and tasty. They do a good order of sweet potato fries as well! The service has improved a lot since my first visit, which is a huge relief. On my most recent visits we were served promptly and efficiently. Since this is officially the closest happy hour to my place, I will definitely be going back! read more

Today I came here to meet friends for the happy hour, and I was quite disappointed by the service. Our waitress came by to take my drink order and disappeared for a while. As she was waiting on another table, she saw me and realized that I had ordered something but she could not remember what. Strike one. Also, I ordered the kalbi beef bao bun slider. When she brought out my order, it was not on bao buns. They went ahead and substituted bao buns with regular silder buns because they were out. Restaurants run out of things, I get that, but most waiters will at least tell you they are out so that you can order something else if needed. Strike two. Forgetting an order, I can let it slide. Swapping out (major) ingredients without letting us know is not acceptable. Overall, the food and the drink were fine. The sliders were very light on the meat, though. I don't know if it's because it's a happy hour deal (although it shouldn't). With the same amount of the meat and veggies, I'm sure it would have looked even worse on bao buns. With all of these, I cannot even give them 3 stars (i.e., ok) because the service was not ok at all. I rarely write negative reviews as you can clearly see in my rating distribution, but I have to give them 2 stars based on my experience today. Today we went to sit on the patio and watch football. We got a great table with an excellent view of the game. The fireplaces give it a wonderful ambiance. I was afraid it would be busy, but we were sat right away. Jillian was attentive with our food and drink orders. It was happy hour so we ordered off that menu. We ordered Caesar salad, truffle fries (5 each) and wings. All were delicious! Samantha, the manager, was also checking on tables and chatting with guests. B-Town is a hotel attached restaurant that is a bit of a luxurious surprise given it is sandwiched between a Fred Meyer and the freeway. Getting there proved a bit challenging and I ended up driving through the Fred Meyer parking lot because you can only access it from one lane of the two lane road. The interior has an upscale feel and the outdoor patio was nicely walled off so you are not staring at a bland view of a large parking lot. We opted for a patio table and the service from that point was excellent. But... We know there is a 'but' because this review only got two stars... The food. We ordered the bulgogi sliders off the happy hour menu and calamari to share. As both arrived they looked great! Looks in this case were deceiving. The sliders were not good. The flavor overall wasn't bad but the skirt steak was not edible. I knew there was a problem the moment I couldn't bite through it. I had to give up and use a knife and I had to take that first bite with a fork. It did not get better. It had the texture of a very chewy tripe/fat, or just imagine chewing on a thick rubber band. I couldn't eat it. At this point, trying the calamari was not an option because the verdict there was it was very chewy. They couldn't finish the calamari either. They were regulars and noted this was not normal. The server was very apologetic and offered to replace or refund, we declined both options and only mentioned it so the staff could adjust to the quality that earned so many previous positive reviews. read more

Okay, this isn't going to be your standard review. Just to get the basics out of the way, they have a very diverse menu, and all the food is good. They have a full bar, and a decent wine and beer list. The reason for the five stars is for their fabulous customer service. We continue to have major reservations about dining inside; B-Town has a large, well-ventilated and heated patio with three fire pits which we took advantage of twice recently, and both experiences were great. Recently about a dozen members of our wine group gathered there for lunch, and they quickly rearranged all the furniture to accommodate our group. Like other restaurants, they may be struggling with staffing, but they did a great job taking care of us. We are so happy to have found a place to dine that feels safe, has great food, and friendly service. We'll be back soon! read more

My husband and I came for dinner during our stay last weekend at the hotel. The restaurant looks newly remodeled and it is such a bummer that the inside is closed because of COVID. The patio outside though is fantastic! They have plenty of seating with nice fire pits, big TVs and ceiling heaters. They even had fresh clean blankets which definitely helped me stay warm. We went for a later dinner and had to wait for a table to open up. Most people were hanging out watching the playoff games but that was ok. The patio was full and only one server for the whole area. The hostess I think helped us out more than the server. They were working hard. We knew what we wanted and ordered everything right away. We ordered the sweet potato fries and brussel sprouts for starters which came out pretty fast, great we were hungry. The fries were excellent. The brussel sprouts were good to. My only critique on the sprouts for the chef, is to cut back on the soy sauce. WAY TOO MUCH SAUCE. It was drowning in it. Lucky the fries helped with that. For an entre we shared the Szechuan Prawns. They were nice and split the plate for us and the food looked beautiful. The waitress warned us that it was spicy and we said that is fine, we like spicy food. On a star scale of 1-5 these were a 7...holy cow she was not kidding. I was so sad as the prawns were cooked perfectly as well as the veggies but it was so spicy it was hardly edible. And this would be an easy fix...just don't make the sauce so spicy!! Also we had to ask for waters...so for those 3 reasons I give this place 4 stars. read more

Seriously great oysters. I've been a couple times now. Try going at Happy Hour as the oysters are nearly half price. They have a good variety of oysters to choose from. I prefer the lil meaty Kusshi, eaten raw from a half shell, grown in BC. I also love the calamari breaded "steak" - they cut it into strips and garnish with green olives & shaved parmesan AMAZING. You could share this one as it's a large portion of eating it as a side. Great local beer menu, service is on point, free parking, free wifi, very clean bathrooms. I have come to B-Town a couple times with my girlfriends and have had an amazing experience each time. All of the servers and hosts have been very friendly and accommodating for our requests. The raw bar chef was super helpful when I had questions about the types of rolls and oysters. He recommended a few rolls which we chose from as well as had thorough descriptors for the oysters. He is very personable, has great presentation on his food, and takes pride in his work. we even got to chatting a bit and found out our birthdays are one day apart! This is a top-notch bar with bartenders who know what they're doing not to mention personalities to match. We had the pleasure of having drinks there a few nights in a row with Olivia as our guide. Old fashioned done right - brown sugar bourbon, orange peel, bitters, large ice cube. Bees knees perfectly balanced. Her and the crew there are friendly, talented and fun. The only reason this isn't a one star review is because the food was very good when it finally came out. It was a Saturday night but the restaurant was only about half full. The majority, however, were two larger parties, maybe 10 people a piece. It was just my wife and I, and our server was also responsible for one of the parties. To say that the server could have cared less about our table would be an understatement. She spent the entire time taking care of the party adjacent to our table and came and went with her back to us all night. She failed to bring a cocktail my wife ordered. You think she'd be eager to bring us more drinks since the meal was taking a long time to come out, and that's just more money we'll be spending there. I've gotten better service at a Waffle House at 3 AM after the bar across the street closed. When the entrees came out, again, they were very good, however she didn't once come back to the table to check on us until we stopped her and handed her our method of payment. There were only 7 or 8 total tables of guests. An engaged front of house manager could have easily could have easily spotted a couple being ignored with empty drinks on their table and stepped in. Oh and we were told they were out of rice, which is the main starch in half the entrees. We were offered noodles instead or mixed greens which in no way could replace rice. Get some oversight in this place. read more

It'd be a 1-star review if the food hadn't been so good. I'd been past here a few times, and always wanted to go in. When they had their birthday bash, with fantastic specials, I cleared my night. It was packed - probably just for this event though, as it never looks too busy - but we were able to be seated pretty quickly. That's where the good service ends. Our server, while friendly, was absent minded and rushing around, and he simply started walking away several times in the middle of us ordering. The food was pretty awesome, though. That's why this gets 3 stars instead of 1, and the wings were probably the solid favorite. They were really quite good and the server didn't know what the sauce was, but it was some honey BBQ sesame concoction. Since pricing was pretty decent, we opted for the oysters (very small, skip them and go to Rock & Rye), the Char Siu and lumpia (get it at any hole in the wall Chinese place instead), the calamari (worth it - comes out like mozzarella sticks!), the burger and fries (decent). The happy hour menu doesn't seem bad, and perhaps when it's less busy it would have better service. read more

I have been excited to go to the new B-Town Kitchen & Raw Bar. I really liked this place when it used to be Poppies, and was excited to see the changes and have heard great things about it. Unfortunately, my experience didn't live up to the hype, and was really disappointed. The seating was great and had booths, high top tables in the bar area, and outdoor covered seating with fire pits, which looked really cozy. We came for dinner and drinks. The service wasn't great; to start we were given lunch menus, the server was not overly friendly, and drinks and food were slow to get after ordering. I ordered the Washington Raspberry, which was really good, and was served in its own martini shaker cup, just like Poppies used to. For the entire, I ordered the Grilled Lobster & Garlic Noodles, which sounded delicious but would never order again. I got the half lobster tail, which was grilled far too long and was tough and burned. I was able to scrap about three small bites out of the shell. The Noodles were overly cooked, and was a big gob of gooey Noodles with some garlic; it was actually really gross. I don't think I would come back here for dinner, but might give it one more chance and come back for happy hour to try a few appetizers. read more
