The only dish I wasn't really impressed with was the chicken fried steak was kinda mehhh. But everything else great which you would think they would get right but nope Went this past week August 3 2022 and ordered the fried chicken dang it was so juicy and crispy. Hadn't had fried chicken in over 6months and this hit the spot with all the family style sides and warm biscuits. AMAZING chicken. The chicken was flavorful and crunchy. We ordered a bunch of food to try, but remember and order of the chicken or main entree comes with ALL the sides. We ordered two chicken meals, tenders and the chicken fried steak. The only disappointing thing I would say was the chicken fried steak, so you can feel free to skip it unless you want to try it. Nothing really bad about it, but it was very bready and not enough steak. The sides were great, mashed potato, green beans, corn, gravy and biscuits. ALL very good. If you have extra biscuits left, you can add that to the leftover gravy. Nothing to complain about here, just remember most of it is family style, very large portions. read more

We ate at this place on the recommendation of the stadium usher at the Texas Rangers game. He told us that they serve great chicken and all you can eat sides, so this was right up our alley. Well, he was correct. The chicken was some of the best any of us have ever tried. The sides were all great (we especially liked the corn, green beans, biscuits, and salad), but what keeps this from a five star rating is the gravy. All three of us agreed that it was too thin and lacked the taste we expected from a home-style white gravy. With that being said, this is a place that is very much worth the visit. It doesn't matter which Babe's we go to in the DFW area, they are all fantastic. I maintain that Babe's has the best fried chicken I've had and their sides aren't anything to discredit either. I would have to say that I found the idea of small town, Texas, forming the perimeter of the Arlington Babe's, the most eye catching yet of all the Babe's interiors we've seen so far. We hadn't been to a Babe's Chicken Dinner House in a long time. I was curious about this location and now I can say, I'm satisfied on all counts. It was a 30 minute wait on a Saturday night and we got there about 7:30. They were full up on entry and the place was rocking and as with all Babe's, so very loud. I noted several Birthday parties with the dreaded chicken hat for the celebrant and observed only one waitstaff line dance while I was there. They looked none too enthused about dancing an hour before closing. Our waitress was perfect. She was smiling and efficient. We are well schooled in the ways of Babe's. I no longer order my own entree. Haven't for years and if you have sense, you will get a consensus of what people want to order BEFORE you order at any Babe's. If you all want fried chicken, do not each order fried chicken! Share chicken. Each order is four pieces, two white and two dark for $15 and so is the smoked chicken. Nearly all of the entrees are $15 and you will have a $60 bill just for fried chicken, for four people, and still not have ordered drinks or dessert. Share the catfish fillets, chicken fried steaks and chicken tender platters. You'll have plenty of food to go around. The sides - a lettuce salad, mashed potatoes and cream gravy, cream corn, green beans and biscuits are unlimited, so you can feed an army for less if you are smart. Otherwise, prepare for sticker shock. That's how Babe's has built an empire. So I always order the Babe's vegetable plate. ($9.50) It used to be a better bargain than it is now - a couple dollars cheaper. I think other people realized having mounds of leftover food and a huge bill may not be the way to go, so the demand for veggie plates went up and so has Babe's price. The food that night was on point for Babe's. We ordered the smoked chicken this time and it was smoky, tender and very tasty. Every single side here was also good. A big surprise because often the mashed potatoes are just okay, the green beans too salty and mushy, and the lettuce limp and drowning in their sweet tangy dressing. But no!!! All was good this late in the evening and we'll remember! We always ask for Jalapeños, too. If you are also a lover of them, they are free of charge. A biscuit, buttered and sticky with molasses, is always my dessert. We are full and usually content at that point and ready to waddle on out. That night, we stayed to take photos and take a little walk around this area north of UTA. The old Arlington downtown is an interesting place. Check it out. Downsides for Babe's - the noise level, the crowded together tables and chairs, sticky or greasy condiments and table edges and chairs and that idiotic dancing. It has ceased to be amusing. Food was tasty but service was AWFUL! waitress brought sides out and we asked for more, took 30 minutes and we were already finished with our food. I asked for honey mustard 3 different times and she brought out some spicy sweet sauce. Then we ordered desserts, completely forgot one of them. We just had a family gathering at this restaurant. The reason we chose it was because we had been there many times before. We left very disappointed with the quality and taste of the food. The chicken pieces were very small. The green beans were very salty with no taste and looked more like over cooked collard greens. The corn and mashed potatoes were equally disappointing. This place is pretty much like going to one of your friend's moms house to have a delicious home-cooked meal. It's BYOB so you can literally bring whatever you want to drink and just ask for a cup of ice or whatever it may be to drink your own preference of alcoholic beverage. The way the menu works is that you simply order either fried chicken, roasted chicken, or catfish and then they bring you unlimited salad, biscuits, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, and greens. My husband and I had lunch at this restaurant today. We ordered the catfish, and I don't know if the grease was old but it smelled terrible. Green beans had similar smell and burnt. Have only ever had take out from here, had it a couple of times now. They do a good job of packing everything up separately- which is especially good in this current (covid) times. I love Babe's. It's one of my favorite restaurants in the US. The atmosphere is fun and the food is great.

I wished I had tried the chicken. Everyone in our group raves about it. I got the catfish and it was served HOT and well seasoned. The biscuits are also served warm and made from scratch. Only with honey or butter. Would have loved these with some jelly. Several sides are included with your order and is served all family style. The plates are slippery so be careful with catfish if you pick plate up to grab you a piece. Four flew off the plate and landed in my lap. That was a bummer. Tonga would help resolve this issue with each of the main fish or chicken choices you are given. I also ordered a Diet Coke and there was some kind of chemical in my glass. As I took a sip I got a bad smell and quickly tasted it. Notified waitress who told her boss and he took it to the back.Never head anything else after that. Only other negative thing is the place is dark and gloomy. I don't know why they don't have better lighting. This place is so neat! Everyone starts off with salad and biscuits then you choose your meat and they bring you all the sides. When a side bowl is empty they bring you more til you say no. Our table got a variety of meats including chicken fried steak, catfish, fried chicken and roasted chicken. Everything was delicious and woo-we! those biscuits were out of this world. As for the sides they brought out corn, green beans, mashed potatoes and one more that I'm forgetting. This was a fun place and the food was so good, I was hurting because I was so full! Personally I won't be coming back. I was with 3 of my friends and 2 of them brought up going to Babe's so we all agreed. Parking, walking in, and being seated was great, I think the decorations as you walk in are so cool. Our server was terrible, she barely came by the table, wouldn't get empty plates out of our way, wouldn't refill our drinks (sodas and waters). We asked to see the "snake" and she said "sure let me go get it" and never brought it. I wasn't a big fan of the food, but I do like that it's buffet style. read more

The food is comfort fried chicken, country fried chicken and fried catfish with southern side dishes. The mashed potatoes were starchy, the corn seemed creamy, and the green beans were not good. They had molasses on them and they were burnt. I wouldn't feed them to my dogs much less my family. The ambiance was more so romantic rather than family setting. It was weird. I would prefer more light when dining with my family. I would also like to see what is being served. The service was wonderful Ella was very nice and very friendly with the grandchildren and even did a magic trick with a coloring book. This one cute. My favorite restaurant. I love the food and the way it it served to the table and they keep it coming. I love the light salad. I love the biscuits, butter, honey, and sorghum. The ambience however is what makes the real difference in the dining experience for me. This is in the top 3 of fried chicken places I've visited in the US. You enter a dark, communal dining area surrounded by 50's memorabilia representing in part, the buildings that were near downtown generations ago. The food is served family style in large bowls for sharing. The entrees are limited and in some locations they may or may not have an extra entree that is not chicken. But do yourself a favor if you're new to it, order the fried chicken. You'll get a platter of yummy fried yard bird, salad, corn, green beans mashed potatoes and a biscuit -- each executed like it came out of grandma's kitchen. (TIP: When you're ready to move on from the fowl the catfish here is great.) Annoyingly, the servers will sometimes break out into a choreographed line dance or loud birthday announcement. From what I understand this place is a must if you are in the greater Dallas/Ft Worth area, so we went. We actually drove by the original location earlier in the day near Justin, TX but since we were staying in Arlington we landed here. There was a wait (outside, and it was hot) so it was clear the place was popular. Once inside, we were seated in a large busy open dining area. The place is no frills, and family style. We were told there are five items you can pick from, everything else is a side and served family style -- fried chicken, grilled chicken, friend catfish, chicken fried steak or fried chicken fingers. I went with the chicken fingers my friend went with the fried chicken. First they brought us salad -- but it is really a bowl of ripped up iceberg lettuce and some sort of oil/vinegar dressing. The dressing was very good, kind of sweet -- but let's not call something a salad when it only has iceberg lettuce. They also brought us some of the biscuits and WOW did those make up for the "salad", I could eat those babies all day long. Not sure how they make them but they were scrumptious. The sides you get are green beans (good), corn (very good) and mashed potatoes (powdered) with some gravy. Look, if you are going to tout yourselves as home cooking -- don't use powered potatoes... but the chicken (and the biscuits) made up for the shock of putting powered potatoes in my moth. The coating on the chicken is divine... not too greasy, sort of light and delicious and the chicken was perfectly moist inside. The service was okay -- a bit on the slow side, which seems weird given the menu is uncomplicated. People that came after us were getting food way before us so I believe it was a server.
