Many of the menu items here are absolutely excellent. The jerk chicken is my favorite by far but you can't go wrong with most things. I've had the jerk chicken, jerk salmon, jerk tofu, bbq chicken, plantations, beans and rice, tofu curry, and patties. All are very good. The pies are very good as well. They get very busy leading into dinner, and things get a bit hectic for the people working there, can't always get through on the phone and sometimes takeout orders take an extra 10-15 mins beyond expectations, but the food is always worth it. The Jerk Salmon plate ($13.95) was phenomenal. It comes with 2 heaping scoops of rice with beans and fried plantains, which are nicely caramelized and crispy and melt in your mouth. Delicious wings! Been waiting for this place to open ever since I saw their "Coming here soon Sign". Finally opened and I stopped by today for a quick bite. I ordered the Fried Chicken Wings and the Jerk Chicken Wings to go. Fried Chicken Wings were wonderfully crunchy on the outside and soft, juicy, tender and flavorful on the inside. My daughter stole some of my wings and she said they seemed a lot less oily than other fried chicken. They were very delicious!!! The Jerk Chicken Wings were covered in a nice spicy and flavorful coating and bbq or oven baked not quite sure. How ever they were made, they were made deliciously! I would come here if they just served wings, but can't wait to try the other foods they make. I'll try them tomorrow night. I'll include more on my review. It was hard and I could not get the meat out from the bone. Rice portion is not consistent. They need to work on the consistency of the cooking and portion. Jerk is a very flavorful and spicy Jamaican spice mix (like a Caribbean curry) that I was SO pleased to find here being a transplant from South Florida where jerk is easy to come by. Delicious food - I almost always opt for the pork since it's fatty and holds that jerk goodness perfectly. If you get the chicken I suggest dark meat - breast meat can get a little dry since it's so lean. The sides are also good - it's high praise to note the Key Lime pie is "close to genuine" outside of going to Key West to get the real deal! After the downtown location sadly closed (loved the decor there) our go-to is the location on Winchester...but they have a few others scattered around the area. Worth the drive! read more

This was my first time having Caribbean food and all I can say is wow!! I ordered the jerk salmon + pork combo plate and my boyfriend ordered the jerk chicken + oxtail combo plate. Every single thing that we got was phenomenal, even the rice & beans and the plantains on the side! Of the 4 proteins, my favorite were the chicken and pork. The chicken was super tender and flavorful and the skin is charred to perfection. Even in the combo with the oxtail, the portion of chicken was massive with a thigh and drumstick. The oxtail was tender as well and smothered in a gravy, so it was super saucy! The pork had good char and it was also really juicy and tender. I also liked the salmon, but I would probably get the chicken and pork over the salmon. The jerk sauce was a little salty for my taste, but the plantains helped a ton with the sweetness. The portions are also massive and we both couldn't finish our meals. All in all, I would definitely come back to Back A Yard, and I'm looking forward to trying other things on their menu! read more

We were craving jamacian food, but since they ain't partnered with Doordash we had no choice but to make the 5 min walk over. The Jerk Chicken Pieces come with 2 dinner rolls and about 4-5 pcs of chicken which was MORE of a MEAL than a snack. I would say this is a good bang for your buck. The jerk chicken was PACKED with FLAVOR and they even provide EXTRA sauce on the side if that's not enough. Don't forget to check in for the fried plantains and make sure they add them in your order! It was surprisingly a good amount of food for the price, have enough leftover for tomorrows lunch! -I really enjoyed both the jerk chicken and pork..can't decide which was better but i think im leaning more towards the pork. The chicken was on the dryer side but the flavor was pretty good. -The plantains were so cute, the plumpest plantains I've ever ate. -I liked the mac and cheese texture, very soft. -Collard greens! Back a yard offers wonderful proteins (oxtail, jerk chicken, salmon, pork, etc.) paired with their delicious rice and fried plantains. If you don't want it over rice, you can have it over their mixed greens too! Since I am often indecisive, so I really appreciate the Yard convo where you can have a mix of two proteins. I usually go with the Oxtail, chicken, and/or salmon. All of the plates come with their delicious, unique, flavorful jerk sauce! I don't know what's in it, but it never disappoints! It's worth getting extra, which you can keep to dip with other stuff :) They also offer vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options! So there's something for everyone. Though I'm glad there's a Back A Yard closer to me now, the food here still left me with something to be desired, which was different from my experience at the downtown location. We got the ribs, and the jerk chicken/ox tail combo. The portions were generous, something which I appreciated. All the meats were tender, but if you want good ribs, I'd recommend South Winchester down the street. The chicken and ox-tail both had good flavor and were relatively tender, the beans and rice was a little too mushy for me, and the fried plantains, while good, didn't have any crispy pieces to savor. The two of us finished half of the meal, but we demolished the tiny container of jerk sauce. I went to the counter where there was a big tub of jerk sauce sitting there along with the self-serve plastic utensils and napkins. As I was about to fill my tiny container, one of the servers filling new sauce containers just said "No." and wagged their finger at me. I was a little shocked and they didn't say anything else to me, so I just went back to the table to pack up our food. After reading a few reviews, I realize it costs extra to get more sauce. Bummer. The other thing is, even though we ate at the restaurant, all the serve ware was disposable. We ended up using my reusable chopsticks just to avoid using some of the plastic. read more

This is definitely a diamond in the rough. We love the jerk chicken plate with the plantains. The rice is very flavorful and perfectly complements the flavor of the chicken. The slightly sweet plantains mellows the piquant chicken making it a worthy combination. If you have not tried this, consider a bucket list modification. If you have, you already know. The jerk sauce can be purchased in a bottle. This is recommended as well. And their prices are reasonable and attractive during this time. I SO SO much wanted to give this place 5 stars and it pains me to write 3-star review but I really just had to be honest. I phoned in an order for the jerk chicken plate after reading rave reviews, went to the store and the pick up went very smoothly, friendly cashier and all but I could see that in the kitchen (I am assuming the chef/cook) wasn't even wearing a mask, just really made me feel uncomfortable as he's the one handling our food. I was tempted to just cancel the order but I didn't want to be "that guy" so I picked up the food anyway The food itself was good, wasn't mind-blowing amazing, the chicken with the sauce they gave was a good combo and the rice had beans and a coconut flavor to it, pretty good Fast forward to 4am at night, I wake up with excruciating stomach pain, I had such a bad stomach ache for about 4 hours until 8am and as I'm writing this now (2pm the next day) I'm still feeling a bit of the pain. There's a reason this place has several locations. The food was great! The jerk sauce had so much flavor and packs a really nice punch too. I ordered the jerk salmon plate and it came with rice & beans and fried plantains. Hubs ordered the jerk chicken plate and an extra side of plantains. The jerk chicken was a very generous portion and not some little pack of party wings. This was real chicken breast and wings. The jerk chicken was seasoned to perfection. The menu is relatively simple, but most of their food are well done. I order the following today: 1.) Caribbean Cobb Salad with Jerk Salmon - The salad is good. It is light and refreshing. It has chopped tomatoes, beacon bits, cheese, and avocado pieces added to the fresh greens. It serve with a pretty decent size of jerk salmon filet on top. I ask them to put both jerk sauce and range salad dressing on the side. The jerk sauce taste good and give good flavor to the salad. The jerk salmon is fresh and well fried that crispy outside. The flavor of the salmon is balanced too. 2.) Corn bread - The corn bread is good. It is moist, warm and soft. The texture of the bread is good and the taste is right on. 3.) The food here is very bland compared to other locations they're missing the salt, spices seasonings , spicy etc that carribean food usually has. I had this exact same dish at a Palo Alto / Menlo Park location I had and Capitol and it was incredible in flavor.
