Recently, on a Sunday morning, I raced up the hill to pick up half dozen bagels. There was no line so that was great!! I ordered more than just the bagels and before I knew it, I was up to 20 bucks so I pulled out my debit card and was told they don't take cards... Oh... I went over to the money machine and it was broken. So I went to a bank and took out some cash, went right back to pay and they had put it all back!!! What??? They said they thought I wasn't coming back!!! I see. Ok...so what's up here?? Who doesn't take cards?? Who has cash anymore? I use my card on everything.. When this happens, I just don't go back!!!! I just want everyone to know that I have never had such an awful experience in my entire life dealing with a food order. I placed a simple order for the office. When the order came back, two sandwiches were made incorrectly. When we called back to alert the guy of his mistake, he took responsibility and admitted the mistake on the sandwiches. For some odd reason, only ONE sandwich was made again and delivered. When we called back to alert that only one sandwich had been made, I got yelled at by the guy and was told to come get the sandwich myself because he didn't want to come back to the same place three times! If you don't want to come to deliver the same order three times, maybe you should make it correctly the first time!! I am never going back here again and will make damn sure that everyone knows about it!!! They will steal your money and not deliver the food you paid for!!! read more

Awful service. The women working were extremely rude and cold to us. First they wouldn't let us phone order because it was "busy" but we showed up to an empty store. Then they decided to tell us they turned the grill off, and we could only get a bagel with cream cheese. Then once we ordered they told us there was no cash and didn't have an atm to get cash. I'm on the fence on whether Bagel Boys should be a 2 or a 3 star review. I think it really depends on the day. Bagel Boys is the only local bagel shop I can think of on Aquidneck Island that has a good selection that isn't a Dunkin Donuts-charred in the toaster-Bagel. They have many types of bagels on the menu: Asiago, Cinnamon Sugar, Everything, Onion, Spinach to name a few. They have a few different types of cream cheese to choose from too. The counter staff really lay it on with the cream cheese, which is great for the cream cheese lovers but if you want a little less, you probably should ask for it on the side. They make decent sandwiches for lunch here too that you can get on a bagel or in a wrap. They carry Willow Tree Chicken Salad which is always an A+ in my book. I have to say it: the staff that work the counter here (high school/college age girls) are pretty rude. They've always been this way since I was young. They all have an attitude of getting your order as fast as they possibly can, which is nice in a sense, but when I literally walk in the door with people in front blocking the selection of today's bagels there is no way I'm going to be able to decide in 10 seconds what I want. Literally I can't think of a time that one of them had a smile on their face. I keep going because my bagels are always toasted right, and I enjoy the extra cream cheese. This place is close enough to the beach so you could run in and get a sandwich before you hit the sand. Still, I wish they hired nicer people behind the counter. I have lived on the island my entire life, and bagel boys is the go to spot for bagels. No matter what. There is no better bagel place on the island. Recently, the staff has become a bit more sketchy, and a lot more rushed. As in, my boyfriend ordered a bagel with creamcheese, and they didn't toast it, and they are always doing a million things at once. However, I have been a loyal customer for about 20 years, and often drive out of my way to get a 6 pack of bagel toes (an absolute must... but you have to be here by 10:00 or they are all out!) and a bagel with a nantucket nectar drink. The prices are very reasonable, but I must warn you it is cash only! I really appreciate the artwork they have, as it makes it a little more than a bagel place, and the work is always interesting and unique. There is also options for outdoor seating. read more

Having lived on Aquidneck Island my whole life, I've learned theres no better place to buy bagels (especially if you love copious amounts of cream cheese). Their cinnamon sugar and garlic/garlic parm bagels are great and their sandwiches are delicious and hearty. Despite the great bagels, the customer service is horrible. I mean the workers are just miserable when they're taking your order, talking to each other, calling orders to pick up. The woman working the counter was extremely impatient and rude to the woman ahead of us, and gave her tons of bad attitude about not ordering all of her sandwiches at once. Working in food service myself I'm able to keep up a kind and friendly demeanor no matter how busy we are (management at most jobs insist on it! )...so not sure why the ladies at bagel boys can't do the same. I'm surprised that despite every review on here mentioning the bad customer service it hasn't improved in years. I've frequent both the Middletown and Newport locations, depending on my schedule, etc. I would not buy bagels from anyplace else on or off the island. These bagels are made FRESH DAILY! Sooo good! Such interesting flavors - perfect bagels! Also ... the cream cheese -YUM! Aside from delicious bagels for breakfast, the lunch menu is also phenomenal. ANd for those who enjoy an interesting setting, there is local art displayed throughout. FUN. Customer Service-wise, I am not sure what other reviewer's expectations are... While both locations offers seating, this is cash and carry, not full service. The folks who work at the counter are also working in the back and making your food, etc. I try to be understanding of the fact that they are all responsible for the shop and I don't expect chit chat. They do seem to be laser focused on what they do best. In terms of counter help being on the phone, etc. I have noticed this as well but the few times this has happened during my transactions, they were either taking a call-in order for delivery (THEY DELIVER!) or communicating with the other location or shop owner. NOT HAPPY! OWNERS take notice. When we went in there at ~11 am, they literally had 2 different bagels. We almost left. This was a Sunday when we assumed people would still be buying them for brunch. The other issue is the employees behind the counter. They were not bad but need some training on how to be professional and learn customer service. When I asked if they were going to make more bagels, Lady 1 replied with, "If we make more and don't sell, the owners will be pissed at us." Really OWNER? You will be pissed at them for trying to satisfy the customers? Please don't get mad at them, help them with this issue. It's not their fault. Guide them like a good leader would. I've eaten here quite a few times, since it is close to where I work. The prices are OK, just under 10 bucks for a sandwich, a drink, and chips. They're sandwiches are pretty good. Since this is a bagel place, I try and get my sandwich on a bagel, but if you wait too long to eat lunch, the bagels seem to get hard after 1 o'clock. The sooner the fresher! read more

I used to eat here regularly in high school and every summer in college...that's way back in the 90's... I haven't found a place that can do an Amigo with Lox Spread like these guys can. We were in town for a wedding and staying just down the street at the Bay Willows Inn so this was just down the street. I had a sesame seed bagel with cream cheese which was yummy and my friend and I took a tomato and cream cheese sesame seed bagel to go for lunch later in the day. We also got a bag of their bagel chips (we got the sweet ones- blueberry, raisin and cinnamon) which were great for snacks while we explored Newport as well as for late night post-party munching! The coffee was ok- I worked as a barista in college so maybe I'll always be picky. They can't do a cold chai, either. They have a TON of bagels but you have to go early in the day because when they are out- they are out. You'll find a wide selection of bagels (IF they are in stock) I recommend the cinnamon and sugar or the jalapeno and cheddar. The honey wheat is good and the spinach is also good. The garlic chedar is good too but you will smell like garlic for the rest of the day. The bagels taste pretty fresh but if you get there later on in the day you'll get the bottom of the barrel and they taste like the last of the bunch. They also have breakfast bars and bagel sticks which are great. I've only ordered plain bagels here so I don't know about sandwich or food preparation. For the past year my colleagues and I have been going to Bagel Boys every friday before school. As regulars we have tried almost every bagel in the place. This is no small feet because there are at least 15 different kinds of bagels. They are just like New York bagels (in my mind they are better). My favorite is the rosemary and olive oil bagel with veggie cream cheese. My colleagues like to get an asiago cheese bagel egg sandwich! Omg very good! The homemade banana bread is also amazing. It is a recipe held close by the owner and for good reason. And bagels are not just for breakfast! I love the different lunch sandwiches especially the hummus one. I LOVE this place. They have so many different kinds of bagels. My kids love going here. My 2 year old loves the little bagel bites. My little guy has allergies and I love that they make everything on site and can tell me what is safe for him and they usually have fresh fruit too. Okay, I'm back. I decided to go back to bagel boys the other day and give it another shot. Well, guess what!? i had an awful experience yet again! So, i guess the manager hired new workers. There is one girl there that works there quite often. I believe her name is Christa. She is the meanest of all of the workers there! There is a Hispanic worker there named Felipe. He has a birthmark on his face. As i was eating my bagel toe, i was the witness of domestic violence towards the man. First, she made fun of his birthmark! Then punched him in the face and tried scraping it off! with her shoe! Then, a customer came in. He was waiting for a solid 45 minutes until she decided to show up and finally take his order! she was the only one working there at the time! The manager, i believe, has a lot of fish tattoos. he put on suddle coffee house music, and she threw a complete fit about it! she then went on blasted "scream o" and he asked her why she did that. she said it was because the coffee house music made her want to "vomit"! HORRENDOUS! the manager should hire more workers immediately! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE. the old white man with the old white van came in shortly after. He almost drove through the bagel shop.
