Came here for brunch on a Sunday and the place is cute. It's a grab and go spot with many options for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and desserts. I ordered the Grilled Cheese sandwich. It comes with kettle chips on the side but you can add other sides as well for an extra charge. The sandwich was just okay. I did not like the mixture of cheeses. The sandwich consisted of fontina, gruyère, and goat cheese. Was not a fan of those flavors. The kettle chips were good and I also ordered an almond milk iced latte with lavender syrup. It was really good! For dessert, we shared the strawberry pop pastry and it was delicious. I would say their desserts are better than their food selection. It was around 1:30pm by the time we stopped by after a 2 mile walk around the path by the river. We were pretty thirsty & hungry so we quickly put in our order. I think it took about 20 minutes before we received our food. While waiting, I got a few glasses of water out of chilled aluminum dispenser with a spigot. After a couple of tries opening the spigot to release the water & nothing coming out, I realized I had to tilt whatever was left in the container as it needed to be refilled. I was able to get 4 glassfuls. Also, I used the restroom & noticed the back bathroom was on it's last sheets of toilet paper so I notified the staff member who was finally replenishing the self-serve water dispenser. Earlier, I had been waiting in the restroom line as both were occupied. A mother and her young daughter & baby were waiting ahead of me. I stepped away as the wait was too long so I proceeded to get water. She told me shortly thereafter that I could use the bathroom since it didn't have a changing table. She told me she'd just use the bench by the tables to change her baby's diaper. I felt bad for her. We ordered Croque Madames with toasted ham and cheese, a poached egg, and Mornay Sauce on sliced sourdough bread. The Mornay Sauce was slathered on generously so everything soaked into the bread along with the runny egg. Very satisfying with a few packets of Cholula Sauce to add some spice & zing & to balance out the richness in the cream sauce. The dish comes with quartered, baby potatoes. Both of our orders had dry, hard, chewy, lukewarm potatoes that must have been sitting out either on the counter or in a warm oven. No amount of ketchup even helped it out so we just pushed ours to the side. That was disappointing. I also ordered a couple of Kouign Amann to go which I've had before. It has a crunchy, buttery, caramelized exterior like a crunchy croissant. It's formed like a tall muffin but has layers of flaky pastry filled with a generous amount of fluffy lemon curd. Gotta cut this bad boy in portions & exercise restraint as it's very rich but with texture in the slightly sweet, caramelized, crunchy exterior & creamy slightly lemony filling. The Cheese Danishes topped with raspberries used to be my favorite for many years til I tried these & now they're my favs as you can be sure you'll get a lot of filling. In summary, I think pastries are the ones that shine for this restaurant. They've got the talent there & what made them a success. We've followed the owners since we used to buy their pastries at The Quarry Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings, back in the day. We were happy to see Bay Area transplants & discovering their Pastry Chef pedigrees from Bouchon Bakery up in Napa. The staff just needs to be more diligent in cleaning the tables more thoroughly, checking the bathrooms for supplies needed/emptying the trash cans & making sure certain items like the potato side dishes aren't dry & hard to chew. Not really impressed with this location. We entered and waited behind someone who seemed to be ordering the entire pastry case. As the lined formed deeper behind us, my husband approached the two other employees who were just standing behind the register doing nothing. One of the young ladies then decided it would be a good idea to take our order. She wasn't rude, but wasn't particularly friendly either. We ordered the quiche Lorraine, the turkey on rye, and a lemon kouign amann, a grapefruit Jarritos, and water. I sorted through 3 drinking glasses before finding a clean one, but, hey, at least it's free water, right? We sat outside and waited for our order. The kouign amann arrived first and was really good. The only thing I would changed is the sugar glaze. It was boiled a bit too long, so it created a taffy-like consistency to the pastry that got stuck in your teeth. The lemon curd filling was properly tart and not too eggy. The turkey on marbled rye was a fairly standard dish. My husband liked the whole grain mustard on the sandwich, which was good, because there was a good amount on it. I got 3 bites into my over-baked slice of quiche before I encountered a 3-inch blonde hair. I'm Black and Puerto Rican and wearing a headwrap, so yeah. I walked the plate back up to the counter and was offered a replacement plate. Based on the fact that they were going to cut the new slice from the same quiche, I requested a refund. They obliged and offered a free pastry, but at that point I was grossed out. I noticed, while I waited for my refund, there was a young lady with full, beautiful locks swinging from beneath her hat and realized few hairnets or sanitation precautions were being taken. The girl said she could not make my grilled sandwich because the kitchen is already closed at 5:50 when I don't know it says 6 o'clock is when they close. I think that is very bad customer service. If you're open till six you can take orders at six if you close at 5:50 put on your Dan ad that you close at 5:50 is ridiculous. Heard a lot of great things about this place, but have to solidly say I can't recommend it after this visit. Breakfast sandwich was subpar and you're better going to McDonald's for a McGriddle. The sandwich had a hamburger bun and lacked flavor and was full of grease. The cinnamon roll tasted old and was supposed to be a warmed up version, but the frosting part definitely lacked. Not good, and the service was extremely rushed by the cashier, she was super rude and kept rushing us without a line or anyone behind us and didn't grab our food for like 5 minutes when it was sitting behind her and she just started eating macarons. We grabbed the signature ginger spiced lattes and were in love! They were subtly gingery and sooooo smooth! The almond croissant was amazing per usual as well. Where the meal fell off for us was the chicken sandwich's it was incredibly dry and the flavor just wasn't there for us. I really like this place and I was so excited to get a sandwich for lunch but I was pretty disappointed this time. I was hoping for better for a $15 sandwich. It's good but just overpriced. The BL BLT was super bitter and I'm not sure why. I think it was something on the bread. I'm a pretty adventurous eater and I couldn't finish it bc of the bitter taste. It has been a long time since I have found an almond croissant that exceeds my expectations and Bakery Lorraine has certainly done that! The first question I always ask is if there is an ample amount of almond spread on the croissant and I am usually told yes, only to be disappointed. This time, when I asked this same question, the young lady gave me an emphatic yes and so I believed her and my croissant was so good, I couldn't stop eating it and it was obvious when I got home and my t-shirt was filled with croissant flakes. Do ask them to warm it up if you plan on eating it at that moment. I also ordered a breakfast turkey sandwich and for some reason since it was breakfast, I assumed it came with turkey sausage, but instead, it was sliced turkey deli meat and while the sandwich was good, I do not like my eggs with deli turkey meat. Also, my chai latte was extremely watery and barely consumable. Bakery Lorraine at The Rim is a place where we used to go quite often and after a while of not going, today we decided to go and noticed that they had changed the menu. When we asked the cashier for two of our favorite dishes (that were mainly the reason of us visiting) he answered that they did not have them in the menu anymore. Suddenly the manager with whom we hadn't had any previous communication, she appeared from behind the counter and with an aggressive attitude she told us that "good things do not last forever" to which we replied that they should. She told us "good things are not forever and you would appreciate them when they're back that's how it works" but her attitude was very disrespectful. After her unpleasant comment, we decided to leave the place and I told her that her comment had kicked us out. It is worth mentioning that I never raised my voice and was always respectful. Then as I was taking a photo for this review, she told me that I was not welcome and that I should leave the place and that if I didn't, her staff would intervene. In other words, she threatened me. I HAD NEVER BEEN KICKED OUT OF ANY RESTAURANT and this wasn't absolutely uncalled for. What a shame that owners invest in a restaurant and the bad employees with their bad manners and service, are the reason that they make you NEVER want to go back. I hope that the owners read this message so they can take pay attention to the people that they hire. read more

Eh, is kind of the only word I can think of to describe this place. The food is good, don't get me wrong but it's not really memorable or worth the price for that matter. The avocado toast was pretty bland, which shocked me by how much praise it gets. I honestly think the plate had more lentils than avocado. The toast was also super hard and wouldn't cut with a knife, I had to rip it with my fingers. Tomato soup was average, it tasted like the soup you can get from H‑E‑B in the prepared section. I love that soup so nothing wrong with the flavor but I wouldn't pay 8.50 here for it again. The salmon sandwich was the biggest surprise. It was huge as far as portions go and very filling BUT my only complaint is the caper spread is too salty that it completely over powers the salmon. I personally love the salty taste but I would have liked to be able to taste the salmon. I deeply love Bakery Lorraine (and probably always will). Atmosphere is nice and cozy. I have many memories of visiting each location and spending quality time with friends and family. I have dreams and cravings for their BL-BLT sandwich. Their macarons and desserts are delectable and hard to say no to. Their chai hits me in the right spot and my husband loves their cappuccino. Even in the midst of a pandemic, I had to pay a visit (and I am very pleased with the distancing involved, QR scanning menu and placement of hand sanitizers everywhere). My first time at BL on my visit to SATX. DELICIOUSLY prepared TurkishEggs! Lavender coffee made a perfect duo with the Queen Aman.

When I think San Antonio, I always wonder why we don't have more coffee and cake options. Those that we have, are merely ok, but not really great. Take Bakery Lorraine, for example. It is a good place to sit with friends and have a cuppa with cake, but although, it's a great concept, the goodies and coffee don't stand out. The cakes are small and overpriced, and that coffee, Ugh. Some of the worst I've ever had. Very bitter and unpleasant. But the Bakery Lorraine atmosphere, especially if you happen to be at the Pearl one, is very comfortable and open, so that merited the three stars. I think more dessert choices and a change of coffee would make this an outstanding place to meet up with friends and chat. Definitely something that we still need in our area. read more

I'm a longtime fan of Bakery Lorraine. I remember my parents talking to the owners in the original location's backyard about the various trees planted. Very cute. I'm happy to see BL expanding, first to their Med Center location, then relocating OG to The Pearl, and now opening a shop at The RIM. Frequent BL fliers will immediately recognize the wooden tables and lightweight aluminum chairs along with the bright, inviting lighting and decor. This ones feels a bit more "modern" and "posh" than the other two spots. The framed artwork in the walk-in area adds to that feeling. (It's lovely artwork!) One thing I noticed this location does that I don't think the other two do is serve mimosas, or.. perhaps alcohol in general? I saw beer also for sale and I don't really recall the other locations serving that. The pastries looked perfect, as they do. I had a grapefruit juice and a cheesecake, and it had that perfect Bakery Lorraine finesse I've come to love. Staff is friendly and patient. I took some time trying to decide what to get and I didn't feel rushed or pressured. Next time I'm shopping at the RIM I definitely will grab some avocado toast here. read more

I first tried this place and the Do-seum, just a pop tart though and loved it! Couldn't wait to try the full menu. Decided to pop in on a Saturday afternoon. The area is nice and wide open. Plenty of spacious seating and lots of sunlight. There's also outside seating for nice days like today. The food menu is small but definitely a nice size portion. I got the chef salad which was bigger than I expected. I loved the bowl they used, wide and shallow, so you can get a bit of everything without having to dig or take stuff out of the bowl. Just the right amount of dressing, plenty of meat and blue cheese, and a full egg. There was about a quarter of avocado and delicious bacon crumbles. My ONLY issue with the salad was the dark crunchy bread crumbs. They were bitter and too much. It kinda ruined the flavor of the salad for me. They had beers in a can and I got the Love Street, which I like. Only $3.50, not too bad. I also got myself a birthday treat, the lemon cake. I've been eyeballing that cake for MONTHS. This place was absolutely delicious! My mom and my sister were in town and my mom wanted to try a little cafe so we decided to try this place. We had such a great time I forgot to take pictures of our food but it was so good. The only picture I got was of my vanilla latte and oh my it was delicious. My mom and I had the turkey pesto sandwich that came with a side of chips and a pickle. My sister had the ham and Brie also with a side of chips and a pickle. Wow! I'd heard this place was good, but I've never seen such beautiful pastries! Everything was delicious. The quiche Lorraine was hot and delicious and the side salad very tasty. The choice of beautiful pastries is extensive. The cinnamon rolls were very large, and the display case had things I've never heard of before. I will definitely come back whenever I'm at the Rim. The only catch is I thought it was a bit pricey. The small slice of quiche Lorraine was $12 and doesn't come with anything else. Side salad is an additional $5 and a small iced tea $3.25. Over $20 for a small lunch. At 12:15 it was pleasantly busy but not quite half full. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating and people have their dogs on the patio.
