Bamboo Garden took over the former China Bistro restaurant, which is under new ownership. Similar to before, the restaurant is very casual and inviting which has a clean full service dining room with booths and tables, pergo floors, a small bar with 4 high seats in the front area, takeout counter, plus an additional bar in the dining room (new feature). The menu offerings include the standard Chinese items and a few Udon and Pad Thai noodle dishes, as well as special dishes including moo shu, mango chicken or shrimp, and coconut shrimp just to name a few. Most dishes $8.99-$16.99. 35 Luncheon Specials (Mon-Sat until 3PM) with choice of soup and choice of rice are also served, $6.49-$8.99. For lunch takeout, I ordered the L5 Chicken with Garlic Sauce ($6.99) served with Pork Fried Rice & Hot & Sour Soup and added an Egg Roll for $1.25 more. The hot food was packed and ready in under 10 minutes. The lunch portion of food was good and right for the price, fried rice and main dish packed in a plastic compartment container. The chicken with garlic sauce had a sweet and mild spicy flavor with mix of soft boneless chicken pieces with fresh vegetables (plenty of broccoli, peppers, onion, seaweed & water chestnuts). The pork fried rice (light tan) was good, which had tender sweet roast pork cubes, peas, carrot, egg, and onions. The hot & sour soup was pretty good, which had a mild spicy broth with a mix of tofu, mushroom, fungi, whipped egg, and spicy pepper seasoning. The egg roll was tasty, but extremely greasy and crispy outside and filled with shredded cabbage, celery and minced ground pork. Overall, the food I had for lunch at Bamboo Garden was pretty good, filling, and reasonably priced. read more

Stayed at the hotel next door and was in the mood for Chinese and the reviews seemed great so we thought we would try it out. The food wasn't that great and ended up getting food poisoning. Heard good things about this place. After our bad experience at the buffet place in Portsmouth, we thought we'd give it a try. Stopped by to order take-out. My husband is deathly allergic to shellfish, but loves egg rolls, so I asked if the egg rolls were fried in the same fryer as shrimp. Yes. Okay, then. We both ordered dinners, no appetizers and he suggested the house fried rice. Good to go! The meal was quickly prepared and we got home to eat. We had candles going (yes, we are kinda romantic, ha ha) and unpacked the food. My dinner came with plain steamed rice, which was fine. As we dug in, my husband suddenly jumped up, turned on the light and pointed at his dish. The house fried rice had shrimp in it! After I told them he was allergic (and I am talking emergency room), they should have mentioned that. Thankfully, we had Benedryl on hand, and he had taken a bite of rice with no shrimp in it. I swapped rice with him. That night he ended up with a fever and sweats, but no rush to the ER. We will not be back. Such a shame! read more

This place looked super cute and had good reviews so I had high hopes. Guess it was my fault for ordering Pad Thai at a Chinese restaurant... it was the worst Pad Thai of my life, if you could even call it that. It was mostly onions (huh?), in a weird sauce, with like 3 shrimp and nothing else. It tasted nothing like Pad Thai and was really just barely edible. I imagine if you stick with standard Chinese dishes they'll be better. The service and atmosphere were lovely, just really disappointing food. read more

This is the best Chinese restaurant. Some of my favorite menu items are the crab rangoons (best I've ever had), veggie fried rice and the pad thai. The restaurant is always clean and the service is always fantastic and quick. This is my family's go to restaurant for both sitting down and ordering take out. I definitely recommend. read more

We were staying at the hotel next door and got take out. The house special, Shrimp Amazing, was truly amazing. Lots of large shrimp and vegetables in a tangy sauce. Also chicken chow mein had a delicious mild sauce and a generous bag of freshly fried crispy wide noodles. The chow mein was a little light on the chicken though. The egg rolls were good as well. Exactly what I expected. Earnest service, clean, just ok Chinese food. Prices were reasonable. General Tzo's chicken was heavily breaded and did not include any vegetables at all. Mu shu pork was a better choice. Boneless ribs were over cooked. read more

Bamboo Garden has outstanding and authentic Chinese food. Their ingredients are extremely fresh and consistently cooked to perfection. They prepare everything to order, so minor adjustments (e.g. Hunan chicken with only broccoli) are not an issue. Bamboo's friendly and accommodating owners and staff complement the cuisine to make this restaurant second to none in southern Maine and New Hampshire. A must stop restaurant for anyone!!! The staff were AMAZING from the minute we walked in the door. Visiting from Wisconsin, we are used to very cheap and average Chinese cuisine often in run down buildings that appear to be unclean. This is exactly the opposite of that! Our 1 and 3 year old daughters received immediate attention from the waitstaff who quickly brought different fun food for our 3 year old who was upset because she wanted a booth seat. They quickly accommodated a booth for us as well. We ordered four appetizers and four entrees in our party of four adults and two children. The spring rolls, egg rolls, teriyaki beef and fried pork dumplings were all amazing and accompanied with delicious dipping sauces. I especially enjoyed the excellent beef teriyaki! Our entrees were orange chicken, orange beef, General Tso chicken and sweet and sour chicken. All of these dishes were absolutely delicious!!! We will certainly be back every time we visit New England!!! Best Chinese cuisine I can recall having in a very, very long time and certainly a friendly, clean and comfortable atmosphere! read more

Great improvement from the prior restaurant (China Bistro). It's somewhat hidden behind a Rite Aid but worth finding. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. Favorites....kung pao chicken, sha cha beef, twice cooked pork. The owner is very friendly and always appreciative of your business. Bamboo Garden is BY FAR, the best restaurant in both Kittery and York. The owner/staff are super friendly, the food is EXCELLENT, the atmosphere is both tranquil and pleasant, the portions are great, the restaurant is very clean and the prices are more than fair. I come to York from Chicago every year to take my mother on vacation and this is THE meal that we look forward to the most since we've been disappointed by the lack of variety from Kittery to York. I understand that this is seafood country but when you're staying for a week or more, variety is important and it seems outside of Bamboo Garden (which is excellent) there is really only seafood and bar food. Bamboo Garden is a REAL treat and I hope both the locals and the tourists support this restaurant, it really is THAT good! read more
