I came here for a quick dinner with my friend. We came on a Saturday night around 6pm. They close at 7:30pm which is really early but understandable. It was self seating when you enter in. My friend and I got a table and they quickly brought over the menus. We ordered crab Rangoon, chicken wings, classic bang mi, seafood pho, pho with everything, Thai ice tea and mango summer pop. Out of everything we ate, we couldn't agree on the rating. There's certain preferences so let's break it down. Crab Rangoon was on the sweeter side. Chicken wing was seasoned properly but the sauce on the side is also a sweet and spicy mix. Banh mi... I'm going to have to give this a pass because the sauce was unnecessary and made the whole sandwich red. It was screaming red40. Phos - average. It's about the same you'll get in Chinatown so unless you want to make the drive, this will do the job. Noodles were soft, broth was seasoned. Drinks- my Thai tea and the other table's Thai tea are not identical.. this means that they add as much milk as they want but it changes the taste. Mine was too much milk and it wasn't the orange Thai tea color. My friend said her drink was enjoyable and I saw that a lot of people ordered the same drink. Overall. I stopped in the Bahn Mi Pho Cafe for a brief lunch between stops. It was quiet but the staff was friendly at the counter. I ordered to go and my sandwich was ready in less than 10 minutes. It was good and the veggies tasted fresh. Some of the meat was a bit chewy, but the sandwich was large and the bread was fresh. Plus lunch for $10 is hard to beat these days. Their pho hits the spot on a cold winter day; it's one of the few pho places in the area so if you want to satisfy a craving, this is the place to go. Only downside is I asked for "fatty broth" which I consider is a staple for Viet places, and when I've asked all standard viet spots for fatty broth (aka nước béo) they know what I am asking for and will provide. When I asked the server for fatty broth she didn't know what i was referring to, and when I explained what it was she commented "but wouldn't that make the pho too fatty"? Hubby ordered food from this place to try. Food smelled really good and looked really good so I was looking forward to trying their food. We got the Shrimp Fried Rice and the grilled Short Ribs. Both were flavorful and delicious. We have ordered from there several times through UberEats and they never disappoint. I want to actually dine in the establishment soon. I dined in at around 4 on a Monday and ordered a chicken pho. The food was alright, definitely not bad, but also not note worthy. The issue with this restaurant is the service. When I walked in, no one acknowledged me and so I was left standing in the entrance for a few minutes while employees walked by and looked at me. After I asked if there was open seating and was given a table, a rude man took my order and it seemed as if I were bothering him by being there. Once my food arrived, not once did the server come over to check on my table. He did check on other tables around mine multiple times and as a server, I know that he avoided mine on purpose. Overall, will not be returning. The mediocre food does not make up for the terrible service and lack of respect that I received here. read more

Of the Vietnamese restaurants I've tried, I would rank Banh Mi Pho Cafe as above average. The pho was rich and flavorful. You could taste that they took time cooking it, and it was not a quick 1hr pho. The Bun Bo was okay. Not the best I've had, but definitely solid and would eat again. We ordered a Bahn Mi to go which was also flavorful and packed well with meat. Aside from the food, it was a very quiet and lowkey place. Good for afternoon lunch, or an early supper. I ordered what's on the receipt and called and told them I felt like I was shorted on food. The PHO PREMIUM COST ME $20 dollars. Had half of a half of meatball, 2.5 oz of brisket, 1.25 oz of sliced meat. The broth was filled about 3/4 of the way, called and the person who answered the phone said that is how we serve it here. I really doubt that bowls looked super healthy at the restaurant. The short ribs weighed at 4.5oz, still seemed a bit skimpy for $15.50, but you look at the pics and judge for yourself. My boyfriend and I got the Vietnamese style egg rolls, the fresh spring rolls, as well as the crab rangoons, and were blown away! The crab rangoons were incredible, along with the rest of the appetizers. You can tell that everything is homemade and fresh. Next, we both got the Pho Tai, and were so happy with it. The pineapple smoothie drink with strawberry I had was really good. They give you a really good amount on the drink. The reason I gave a 3 star is because the short rib plate was not what I expected. A lot of improvements! First off: service was much more smooth and attentive. This was a sore spot the first time I visited so I'm glad they got things ironed out. The banh mi bread was much fresher/crispier/flakier. Meats still savory and fresh. Pho broth was roughly the same but they changed the meat to differentiate it from the lemongrass beef in the sandwiches. Plus, they have outdoor seating now! Excited to have Vietnamese in the area, wanted to like this place but unless they get it together not sure they will last. We dined in--server clearly hadn't been trained didn't even understand the menu nor had knowledge of the "lunch special" which was in big signs as you walk in. Got egg rolls, arrived ice cold like they had been reheated in a microwave. Meats (beef and pork)were woefully under seasoned/marinated for typical Vietnamese. Pho beef was sliced way too thick and horribly overcooked. Pho broth was fine, and vegetables to add in were nice and fresh. Note to managers/owners-- cocktail napkins are not what should be your main napkin on a table. I know we are in a pandemic, but napkins are available now everywhere. Ordered for delivery through grub hub. I got a banh mi and pho with steak and meatballs. The meat was raw, sitting in plastic bag in my noodles, a little unappetizing. The sandwich tastes weird. It has too much soy sauce and not enough pickled daikon. The pickled carrots are overpowering and are mushy because they're sliced thinner than they should be. The bread also has a weird taste. The pho broth is just okay. I ordered this on a whim, because pho is the best cure for a hangover but I really regret my choice. My partner and I came here tonight for early Valentine's Day dinner. I was craving a broth based meal that is also slightly healthier than fast food, and we've been meaning to check out their food but have tabled it for awhile. I've only been here once for a cup of bubble tea but was upset that they didn't fill my tea to the brim when I asked for no ice. I told myself I'd come back once more just to see how their food is. They don't have any competition in Oak Lawn as far as Vietnamese cuisine. The service is great -- the gentlemen made sure to check on us several times even though he was the only one at the front end and there were several people at the counter waiting for their takeout order. I can totally appreciate it and was blown away because I know for a fact that Chinese restaurants prioritize the takeout traffic over the dining in customers. My only complaint is the place isn't the most clean -- our table and parts of the seats had some crumbs on it, but nothing that we couldn't wipe off ourselves. My partner ordered their chicken pho, and I did their beef pho. We ended up splitting a chicken banh mi, and both the pho and the banh mi was really delicious. One thing I missed during COVID was having a fresh bowl of hot noodles dunked in broth -- it's not the same experience when you order takeout, especially with noodles in broth. The broth was seasoned to perfection -- not too salty and not too bland, and the lime juice, jalapeños, and mint leaves really bring out the flavor of the broth. I can appreciate their meat to noodles to broth ratio, there was a really good amount of everything, and we both inhaled our meals quickly. We left with a full and happy belly, and we didn't break the bank. It's slightly pricier than Uptown Chicago, and that is expected because in Uptown -- you have a ton of competition, there's literally a Vietnamese restaurant every block. Their lunch special looks very reasonably price, and we already discussed coming here one day for lunch. I also love how they have 3 signs on the wall near the entry where it talks about the anatomy of pho, bubble tea, and banh mi -- it definitely helps the community better understand what ingredients makes up the dish and beverages. A lot of people are unfamiliar with Vietnamese food or don't know the difference between each Asian country's unique cuisine, so even this well-versed Asian American can appreciate and approve of the propaganda.
