Is it the best Asian fusion food I've had? Not exactly. Was it still a fun experience and the best food we ate while at Terranea? Yes it was! Nothing too special but the food was good. Compared to the surroundings, the food in Terranea did not live up to the hype, but bashi was actually one of the better options we tried during our stay. We sat at the bar because wait times were astronomical during the Fourth of July weekend. It was so completely packed we almost couldn't enjoy our food because it was so crowded we had to squeeze into a corner of the bar. Not too comfy, to be honest. Still, our drinks and food choices were good. The brussel sprouts salad I loved (needed something green even though it was generously dressed up!) and the vegetarian garlic noodles were very good. All of the meat and fish skewers were cooked well too. All in all, it was the type of late night dinner that satisfied but didn't impress. Because of that, I am not sure I would go back again. The "wow" factor is definitely missing from this place and that's kind of a shame when you are at such a stunning place like Terranea. read more

Be sure to book reservation as the wait can be lengthy. We enjoyed this place so much that we had it for two meals during our stay at Terranea Resort. The first visit was for dinner. We were quickly seated and the food arrived quickly. I had the tofu curry which was very flavorful but the true star of the show was the dessert. The Chocolate and Vanilla bean pot de crème with passion fruit is seriously my top three desserts I've ever had. The second visit was for lunch. We were seated in the sun so the hostess attempted to move us in to the shade but that resulted in us being seated way too close to a nearby table. We asked for another seat in the shade since there were several empty tables. She indicated those were for reservations (we had a reservation as well) and walked off. We were so crowded together that the nearby table couldn't get out of their seats. Luckily we were finally able to move after speaking to another worker however it tainted the enjoyable experience. Our server was not helpful either. The server just assumed we would be a problem, so she sent the manager over who was even more rude to us. The ambiance and service is unparalleled, I won't argue with that. i got the salmon carpaccio and garlic noodles. The carpaccio was mediocre, The fish wasn't the freshest. The seaweed salad was the only good part, but you can't really go wrong there. The garlic noodles is basically what you would buy from the frozen section of Costco and reheat on your stovetop. The management (Oksana) at this location has no idea what she is doing and/or what is going on. Extremely unfriendly, inhospitable, and doesn't know how to appreciate people's time. There was an issue that Oksana blamed on someone else below her. It has to be pretty embarrassing to be a GM and not know what is going on in the restaurant that you are supposedly managing. We dined here twice during our last stay, and both meals were memorable. We split our time between San Francisco and LA, so our standards for Asian food are pretty high, and we were thoroughly impressed! My partner has Celiac, so careful attention to gluten is very important to us. Both the servers and the kitchen were exceptional in this regard. While the sushi was excellent, they worked absolute magic with some hot Asian dishes that we've never seen translated into gluten-free versions before. Delicious! Let's start with the food. Another reviewer said the food is about as good as at Panda Express. I mostly agree. Some dishes were better, but many were actually worse. For example, when they brought the Lobster Fried Rice -- one of the most expensive dishes on their menu -- I instinctively leaned over to my dining companion and asked whether it looked like barf on a plate. And it didn't taste appetizing at all. Now, let's talk about the ambiance. The view from the outside dining tables is absolutely stunning. However, it is marred by the sound of screaming kids in the swimming pool right in front of it. Whoever thought that putting a swimming pool right next to all their upscale restaurants was a good idea? Finally, let's turn to the service. We'd requested, in our reservation, a seat at the front edge of the restaurant (these are the ones with the best views, with no heads blocking your view). But when we arrived, they didn't give us any of these tables. They insisted these were reserved for larger parties and since there were only 2 in our party, they couldn't seat us there. This, despite the fact that there were two unoccupied tables at the edge, each with only 3 chairs. Barely 10 minutes after we'd been seated, the maitre d' filled up both these tables each with a party of 2. To add insult to injury, she didn't even bother apologizing or explaining her actions. She just walked by us without even looking at us. Overall, it was very evident that all of the service members, from the maitre d' down to the wait persons and busing people, have not been trained to treat customers with respect and attentiveness. I found myself repeatedly requesting service from a wait person other than our assigned wait person. Our wait person rarely looked at our table to check if we needed anything and rarely walked by our table. BOTTOM LINE: I guess I should have paid attention to the reviews online and avoided this place. Don't make the same mistake I did. Avoid this place. read more

With a nice view of the ocean, Bashi matches such a serene ambience with excellent food and service. Our server, Alexandria, accommodated my table by offering to ignite the outdoor warmer as a breeze started to reach us, as well as being thoughtful enough to change the channel on the tv above the bar at my request! All of the staff were well-presented, professional, and friendly. As for the food- all of it was amazing. An asian inspired restaurant, this is definitely one of the most disappointing and underwhelming experiences in resort dining anywhere. I would recommend you skip anything raw here - you are not going to be impressed with poorly executed, paper thin sashimi slices or worse, overcooked and what is pretty gross, off, post-frozen, shrimp. Clearly the restaurant hired "chefs" that failed at the Sarku sushi joint at the mall. For the cooked foods, while palatable are a step below Panda Express, you will find food that is the most skimpy anywhere. $17 for approximately 12 string pieces. We had to go send it back to ask for at least 16 (see the color difference between what was originally given and what we got when we complained). In short, just skip this place. I've eaten here a few times and always found it to be just okay. Based on the price, you would hope for a food experience worth of 4 or 5 stars, but that never turns out to be the case. What I do really like, the location and views. With COVID you will be required to sit on the patio, which is really nice with a view of the pool or the ocean. At night they have plenty of heat lamp coverage so you should be warm, but bring a jacket to be safe. Our server was excellent (Sophia), and checked up on us regularly. So really, no fault there. I guess the biggest fault is the sticker shock relative to the quality of food, which is good, but not special. Outrageous prices for just average Asian food is not something you build a business on, unless your location is on a resort property where patrons have limited dining options. The fish is farm fresh, not wild, so the resort premium feels outrageous when you pay $19 for a tiny bowl of poke with ONE fish choice. Such is life. Our server said the portions are "sharable" for 2, somehow we did not get the right items I guess, LOL. Truth be told, their various noodle options are tasty and plenty big. We also brought our own bottle of wine, which comes with a $40 corkage fee, so that probably gives you a feel for the price structure. As a weekly customer, last night was disappointing. we ordered the Miso soup as a starter, then the poke bowl and garlic noodles. The poke bowl came out first with barely any tuna at all. We have been getting this for years and last night the difference was noticable. They charged us 5 dollars for each as a cake cutting fee, but the funny thing is they cut the pie and put the candle on a slice of the cake. I was expecting a whole cake with a candle.
