Battello might've had me staring at the NYC skyline more than my actual date. The ambiance was super classy, the views were insane, and the service was on point all night. Oysters were fresh (8/10), pesto pasta was solid (7.8/10), but the sashimi definitely carried the team (9/10). Overall, really good experience -- perfect spot if you're trying to feel a little fancy for the night.
Limited parking parallel parking available on site, people don't follow the stripes to save space which is good. Great location with somehow private view of Lower Manhattan skyline. If you come early with reservations you may get the window seating which looks fantastic, either way it's a nice view inside. Food is so-so, not something I'd crave for or remember. Pricing average for a sit-in resto and the taste of food. I think 45 lunch for the setting is not bad for a single person these days. Bar drinks available for brunch. Good for group, family or dates! Staff were cool.
When I was a kid growing up in Jersey City, the area near the Holland Tunnel had a few seedy motels but was primarily an industrial area that wasnt a place anyone could envision that it would blossom into Newport, a great place to live, work and celebrate romantic dinners! We were recently invited to attend a wedding at Bottello, a gorgeous Italian restaurant that's located right on the waterfront with gorgeous views of downtown New York Cty. It's my understanding that the building was once a huge boat house but now has been transformed into a perfect venue forr weddings. As guests, we were impressed by their very professional staff of waiters and waitresses who were dedicated to providing excellent service. The food from the appetizers to desserts were delicious. As the setting for the wedding, the view was breathtaking, even on a cold night in January!. My wife and I want to return for dinner, since the food , (we had the branzino) was delicious and with such gorgeous views, I'm sure , it will be a very special romantic and memorable evening..
Food or views -- usually you get only one -- Batello lives up to the hype, giving you both. We ate here for a special Christmas Eve meal and wow, so amazing. The views were breathtaking, the service was warm and welcoming and the food was delicious. We started with the zeppole's, they are crispy and savory and fluffy and perfect, don't miss them. She had the Lobster Roll and I had the Halibut, both were excellent. I must admit, I had this place all wrong. I thought it was too expensive and should only be reserved for special occasions but our meal was great and bill was not crazy expensive--we'll be back with friends on Saturday nights. See you there!
Really really yummy food. Venue is gorg- both huge and right on the water-- you can't beat the views! We enjoyed lunch with a friend and had some amazing bites. Really large portions but enjoyed salad and sandwich combos. Also started with a bread app and side butter was chefs kiss. Overall really good quality ingredients in a beautiful atmosphere- recommend
Shout out to our sever Samantha as well as the entire staff like the runners bringing out all the food. We had a 630 reservation but got there 30 minutes early and they were still able to accommodate us. For a Friday night they were very busy but the food came out very quickly! We tried the wild ride and limencello spritzers. The focaccia bread and the beef ragu- amazing flavors! We loved everything! I wish we would have sat on the open are with the view of the city but it was still an amazing experience!
I stopped by for a quick lunch /bite. The views of NYC are super nice as you eat (especially with outdoor seating). I got the pesto chicken sandwich and was one of the best I've had. The service was fast, accommodating. I have to shoutout this place for having parking right in front of the restaurant at no charge. You don't hear of that often in a place like Jersey City. I highly recommend to give this place a try!!
Beautiful restaurant right in the waterfront area of New Jersey. We came here for lunch, but it would be a really romantic spot for dinner-- vibes were chefs kiss! Service was ok-- I kept getting dirty plates for some reason, but when I asked, they gladly changed my plates out for me. Food was a bit hit or miss... honestly, I'd be back for the vibes but idk if I would be back for the food itself. - Pecorino zeppole: 8.5/10 (probably my fav thing we ordered! I liked the donuts and the prosciutto. The sweet chili sauce worked pretty well, but it did seem like a very generic/store bought sauce? - Steak frites: 8/10 (decent steak and French fries) - Gnocchi: 6/10 (honestly wasn't a fan of the gnocchi.. it just seemed a bit overcooked and the sauce and pasta weren't harmonious but was kinda bland)
Chose Battello for our anniversary dinner since we hadn't been and were looking for a nice view as well. Unfortunately we did get some rain and couldn't enjoy the outdoor area post dinner. Restaurant is spacious, well laid out, and has a cool vibe. Ambiance -5 stars Service - 4.5 stars Food - 4 stars Appetizers Focaccia bread Spanish octopus Mid- course Ricotta gnocchi Entrees Day boat scallops Swordfish Dessert Lemon cake It was a nice experience overall and we would return.
We've been here twice. It's the only "fancy" Italian in Newport. The service is great. I find the waiters to be attentive and they make sure you're taken care of. Food is meh. It's good, but it's not great. And the price for the food is almost not worth it. You pay for the view of the NY skyline, not so much anything else. If you go into NY there's a thousand more Italian restaurants that make way better food at a cheaper price. I don't remember what I got the first time we went because it was a year ago. The second time around I got the squid ink pasta. It has a kick to it but it's almost completely drowned in tomato sauce. My husband got the spaghetti special that day which he said it was good. I also got a cocktail and we got dessert. It's small for the price and I wish it was a larger piece. It's also hard to eat here because it's the popular spot for many private events and parties. There's always something going on there. Overall, it's a nice restaurant with good service and okay food. Pricing is a bit high in my opinion. It's great for parties because it's quite a large space and the view of the skyline is always beautiful, especially on a nice day.
Battello starts with a beautiful setting. It is situated at the end of a long pier - upon which is their parking lot - off Washington Blvd in Jersey City, which juts out into the Hudson River, providing exceptional views of the Manhattan skyline. It's a romantic location. Given the setting and the fact it is not a BYOB establishment, it is not an inexpensive restaurant meal. We have dined here perhaps a half dozen times. Between the ambiance and the food it is generally a 4-star or 5-star dining experience. On the 4th of July 2025 we went here for dinner. It was beautiful weather - sunny, not too hot, and not humid. Accordingly, choosing to dine outside on their patio that's right over the river was a picture perfect setting. We started with their special holiday frose cocktails, which were red or blue to celebrate the 4th. We both chose the red variety, which had vodka and prosecco as the alcoholic ingredients. These were a very pleasant start and snuck up on you, as the existence of the alcohol seemed nonexistent while slurping these down. They offer a decent, though hardly extensive, wine list, which we'd generally order from, but given we began with a cocktail and had to drive home, we opted for single glasses of wine for our dinner. Unfortunately, their by-the-glass offerings were even more limited and unimpressive. We each had a single glass of their only California Cabernet, which was from a Paso Robles winery that was unfamiliar and disappointingly ordinary at $21 per glass. We shared the tuna tartare appetizer. It was not the best we'd ever had, but an acceptable opener. My wife had the pork chop, which she loved. It was accompanied by a garlic mashed potato mousse, which she likewise raved about, but the accompanying broccolini was nothing special. I had the $85 market price lobster risotto arrabbiata. While the lobster (the out of the shell tail and both claws, though without the arms) was perfectly done, the risotto itself though, which should be spicy, was over the top though and not what I'd consider risotto, as the rice was not soft enough or creamy enough. So the mains were not perfect this evening, but more than good enough when it came to the main ingredients. We often skip desserts, but not this evening. My wife had the pavlova, which was excellent, and I had the affogato, which was likewise above the ordinary. The bill was almost $300 before tip. They do add a 3% credit card fee, which is now a more often than not standard add on at most restaurants, though it's frankly obnoxious and would have hoped the card issuers would have put a stop to this practice by now. It was bad enough when this began with gasoline, but now it is applied to so many transactions, it's just pathetic. While a less than perfect meal - and therefore not a 5-star evening - it was still a hit evening, between the parts of the meal that were hits and the setting. I'm sure there will be a future 5-star night and know we will dine here again.
So cute! This was the first place we dined while in town and we loved the restaurant and the views! It was a bit annoying when our uber driver left us at the street because in the cold it was a bit walking down the pier. However the food was great. We got a pasta and the halibut and enjoyed everything
Writing a review for dinner / drinks, not a wedding lol. We had both drinks at the bar and then dinner in the dining room. Everything was great! Standout service all around plus all of the food was great! The dining room is beautiful - you can get a seat without a view and still enjoy the ambiance here. Some people were dressed up and others were wearing casual outfits so even though Battello is very nice, it's not over the top in terms of fanciness. As far as the food goes, we loved everything. The apps are 10/10. We had the burrata, zeppolis, focaccia, and the agnolotti for our apps. For entrees I split the gnocchi and the scallops. You can't go wrong with anything here. Drinks were solid and they have a great wine by the glass list. Our server was very knowledgable and helpful when it came to choosing the wine. Overall I really enjoyed my experience here and would recommend Battello for any occasion.
Unfortunately I cannot say many good things about Battello based on my experience. I dined here for a friend's birthday with 8 people in the party on a Thursday. It was surprisingly busy. The decor was lovely since it is a wedding venue. There is also parking right in front of the restaurant which was helpful because it's a busy area. We were seated quickly and the waitress was very nice. I could tell she was trying to do the best she could. We put in our drink and appetizer orders. I will say the cocktails were delicious but every round took a while to get to us. They were normal pricing for a high-end spot. I tried the Emmy James at first and it was a bit too bitter for my liking but I had the Main Squeeze afterward and it was perfect! Sorry I didn't get a photo I was too busy drinking! The appetizers came in and they were extremely small portions for $20+ price but that was expected. I only tried the steak tartare and it was good. I've never had that before. The table liked both apps. The problem was with our entrees. The portion sizes were ridiculously small for entrees! The Prime NY Strip was half the usual serving size and $54. I also found it so odd that the Lobster Ravioli comes in 2 sizes. My friends ordered the small and there were only 3 raviolis. Who gets full with that? I had the Pan Roasted Half Chicken and I immediately spotted a hair and sent it back. Luckily they comp'd the meal without me asking. They came back pretty quickly with a plate I think was the same one but I was hungry. It was good and seemed to be the only normal portion size. I loved the fluffy mashed potatoes. I won't be coming back to this restaurant. You don't get high-end service or meals for the high-end prices. read more

I mean, you cant go wrong with Battello. Everything is good here, no complaints. Only that the menu almost all sea-creatures, which i love, but options are always nice. At one point we had two waiters, but our main server Erica, was super knowledgeable and nice. Great views by the water and really good light live music. He was playing bangers but in a soft tone. First time here and we liked it. I would give it 4 out of 5 for overall. Food: 5 out of 5 We had the Tuna Tatar as our appetizer, which was very tasty and overall very good. Then my husband had the Halibut which was well cooked and served, and I had the Lobster with Risotto, which I loved every bite. Atmosphere: 5 out of 5 Very nice place, clean and very relaxed. Really like it. Very nice for a romantic dinner with a beautiful view of NYC Service: 3.5 out of 5 This is where they lost some points. The waiter disappeared on us and the food seem to had taken forever to come to the table. One other waiter pick up on the lack of the other waiter so that kind of made up for it. We were celebrating my birthday (which we noted on the reservation) and they gave us complementary Champagne (without us having to tell them) to toast with. read more
Food and service were very good! It was pricey, but as expected with the location. My fiancé took me to celebrate my birthday which was so nice. We didn't get sat in the back with the large windows (boo) because I really just don't think they cared. lol (yes he put in the notes that is was my birthday when making a resy) anyways back to food... we each ordered a cocktail and Focaccia bread and honey truffle butter (butter was so good!) we then tried the zeppole and Parm appetizer (very unique!) and we really enjoyed that. For mains we ordered 1/2 order of Cacio E Pepe and some rigatoni (with vodka sauce) they did bring out a dessert, can't unsure what it was? Overall food was good - I heard the weddings are very nice as well. read more

Came here to celebrate my birthday on Tuesday. The place is beautiful. i stumbled on it, looking for outdoor dining in New Jersey. I was hoping to sit outside for some IG worthy pics, but sadly, the smoke covered the city, but still, the view was nice. And it was raining as well. I like that it's very romantic but also good for groups or just having dinner with a friend. I was able to ride the Uber all the way up to the restaurant, which was nice. My date and I sat by the window to see the view which I requested. I ordered the schooner seafood tower, and my date picked out a bottle of wine. I think the manager came over to speak to us, and that was nice . My date told them it was my birthday and I thought I would get a surprise piece of cake as some places would do but that didn't happen. The seafood was nice and fresh, and I enjoyed the wine pairing. The staff were nice and very attentive. I got some great pics, and I was satisfied. I would go back to try the black squid ink pasta and some other things on the menu. And I'll also looking forward to exploring the area. This place is worth a visit. read more
What an amazing place to hold a reception. WOW! My niece held her reception here and it was off the charts. Super swanky. The vibe of this place is just unbelievable. The view of New York City skyline, the lights coming off the water, red brick building inside and out, the layout of this place is just perfect. The food was amazing from the 2 different types of carving station to the 10 foot charcuterie board, a great bar and the service was phenomenal. And that wasn't even dinner. Dinner was either Filet Mignon or Sea Bass. Everything about this place was perfect. It was sad the night had to end. read more

Great waterfront restaurant with parking! Let's just let that sink in. Ok, the minute you walk in the door you are swept away by the ambiance and low key vibe. The waterfall wine wall was a sight to see. Stroll out to the patio and get ready for a "Shipwreck" cocktail that is light and refreshing with Botanist Gin and basil. Yummers! The noise level varies but definitely ramps up around happy hour. However, the live music made it all worthwhile. We enjoyed the fried shrimp appetizer, which had a touch of heat to it with flavors to tease any palate. The risotto was amazing. However, the lobster ravioli, while quite expensive for the appetizer portion definitely lacked the "wow" factor. I would not order this again. I did make up for it with the banana cake. Flavors that are out of this world. Try it! I would definitely return because of the ease of parking and the waterfront views. Do yourself a favor and give this one a try. read more
Popped in again after some time away, service was spot on. Drink - the water was warm. Lobster roll was a bit fishy, fries were good but salty. The salad was salty and sour, too much dressing? And the pepe di cacio was excellent - but salty. I'm sensing a theme here. I'll try salad w/ dressing on the side next time, and will definitely be back for the pepe di cacio (pepper and cheese pasta - simple but delicious!). read more

Visited Batello for the first time today. Such a beautiful restaurant. Some important things to note if it's your first time 1) there's free parking in front of the restaurant. Try there first before paying for the parking deck like we did lol 2) not sure if it's every Sunday, but there's only a brunch menu up until 2:30 and we showed up around 2. Super fun fact they closed the restaurant after 3pm for the super bowl Food: our server recommended I get the gnocchi because it's what the chef is known for. It was good, but a little salty. I also with it was more meaty. Our party also liked the shrimp n grits. The chocolate wine cake was also just ok for my opinion. I wish it was sweeter. If you're not into sugary dessert than you might enjoy it more. Drinks: The shipwreck was recommended by our server. It was strong but a little too bitter for my liking. I had a second drink (something with lavender ) it was very pretty but the taste wasn't impressionable. All in all, I would love to revise for dinner service. It's a beautiful restaurant and perfect for special occasions. Theres a perfect view of the New York skyline from inside the restaurant read more

Came here for some drinks and a bite to eat with a friend. Matt the bartender was attentive and accommodating and even made this passion fruit cocktail! The drinks are beautiful and taste even better than they look. The avocado toast with salmon was generously portioned. We sat at the bar and time slipped by with all the catching up and not once did we feel rushed to leave, which I really appreciated. Will definitely be coming back to sample the rest of the menu! read more

We had: * Squid Ink Torchio * Fennel Crusted Pork Chop This was our second time back at Battello and the ambience and amazing service remain unchanged! If you're lucky, you can get a view by the water, but even without the skyline, we were perfectly satisfied with the live music that happened to be playing the day we were there. The pomodoro sauce of the Squid Ink Torchio was a little too strong and the dish ended up mostly tasting like tomato... But the Fennel Crusted Pork Chop was amazing both times we had it! One of the best pork chops I've ever had, absolutely bursting with juice and flavour, it never disappoints! Note: the pastas no longer come in small or large sizes, which I do miss as it allowed you to try more options read more
I had lunch here with a friend. We sat at the bar. I was early, so I decided to grab myself a cocktail which was the sunset serenade. Erin the bartender was awesome. Great personality, so friendly and makes a phenomenal cocktail. I needed a suggestion for what to order for lunch and she recommended the smoked turkey blt. It was delicious and the side salad was perfect. My friend had the panino and he said it was great. The atmosphere and views of NY are awesome. I loved that they have onsite parking. Another plus to this establishment. I will definitely return to sample their other mouth water cocktails and food items. I'm sure this is the place to dine in Jersey City, especially when the weather allows for outside dining. Make a reservation if you want to eat here. You won't regret it. I know I didn't. read more
Had an enjoyable evening celebrating my sister's 25th birthday here! This place is a little hard to find from the street if you don't see the sign... but make sure you do your best to find because there is a free parking lot. When you do find it, you realize that it is a treat for the eyes and the vibe is really laid back, yet happening (telling my age). Very dimly lit, so much so that I needed to use my phone flashlight with my aging eyes lol. Open space.. we were seated away from the bar area, where I saw some TVs playing pre season football games.. there seems to be an upstairs, not sure if there is dining up there, I was there for the bathrooms. And we enviably watched some patrons be seated outside in an enclosed patio with a magnificent view of Manhattan. Next time, we have to figure out how to score those... Let me first say, thank you to Battello for being so understanding with my zillion calls to change the party size and time of our visit... I have very inconsistent family members. But, nonetheless, it left a good taste in my mouth before I'd even arrived. Once we were seated, we were immediately waited on by a very pleasant, accommodating waiter, Francisco. He's a good guy. I ordered two French martinis that were totally different than I'm used to, but in a very tasty way. Drinks are small, but pretty mighty. A few of the items on the specials menu, like the calamari, were sold out, so that was a bummer... but the grilled octopus and white shrimp were tasty, but small.. all the dishes were not so plentiful, btw. The cacio e pepe was bland.. For my entree, I ordered the short rib tortellini from the specials menu, which I inhaled... it was sooooo good! Yum! Dessert: donuts with marshmallow fluff and peanut butter fudge dip.. I was definitely not that impressed. The fluff tasted anything like what I remember as a kid of the glass jars... and the donut itself wasn't anything special. I did enjoy my cappuccino with sambuca. An added treat... make sure that you hang around outside to get some wonderful photo ops of the NYC skyline.. read more

You really just come here for the ambience and view rather than the service and food. Food is good, but too pricey for Italian, wannabe fancy or not. I understand it's the area and it is what it is. Additionally, I attempted to come here once after a late night in the office, and although an hour left before closing, was told I could only sit in the bar area instead of the window side dining area with the view. The restaurant was not even half full and with an hour left I was told the remaining tables were reserved. Complete and utter garbage, and I left. I won't come here on my own accord again. Do better read more

Beautiful space on the waterfront for a lovely meal! Nolan was our skilled and wine knowledgeable server. We surely appreciated his expertise. Even the non-alcohol beverages were good. I recommend the Ginger Apple Fizz. Prices are moderately high, but the portions are sizable. My Tricolor Salad was fresh, flavorful and very large. Glad it's all I ordered! My companions enjoyed the Pistachio Tiramisu. I thought the Chocolate Budino was rich, smooth and full of cocoa. read more
Good food, friendly service, live music (on some nights) and nice views of NYC - what's not to like? Had dinner at Battello a couple of times - Nicole was our server for one our visits and Justin was the server during the other, both were great. Love the Housemade Foccacia to start and they had a Salmon Tartare appetizer as a special one of the nights which was excellent. For the entrees, we especially liked the Smoked Salmon and the Scallop dishes. The Baked Chicken and the Cacio E Pepe were also good. The Expresso Martini Affogato was a nice finish. If I could give this place 10 stars I would Service was immaculate. The tables were kept clean. The food was delicious and beautiful plated. The atmosphere was just on point and Jessica was an excellent server. Will definitely come back here so happy I'm lucky I found this restaurant. read more

Batello is a great place to bring guests for a more fancy or business-related dinner. We made a reservation for a weekday evening and asked to be seated at a table indoors, in the room with large windows that provides abundant natural lighting and a magnificent view of the city. There are also tables outside by the dock, or more inwards within the restaurant. As the evening continued, there was also great live music that made for a wonderful ambiance. All of the food was so beautifully presented. For appetizers, we tried the Braised Octopus and the Hawaiian Kanpachi Crudo. The octopus was great and size was quite decent. As for the crudo, while it was fresh and aesthetic, the portion is rather small. In terms of entrees, we quite enjoyed all of them. To comment on a few, the texture of the tomato lacquered eggplant was wonderful--soft on the inside with a nice crunch from the bed of crispy lentils atop. The squid ink campanelle had a great taste and we appreciated the sizeable portion. And the lobster ravioli was so delicious, some of the best ravioli I've had. read more

Everything was great until dessert which took a while to come out. The decor, though, was spectacular. Location: Located on a pier in Newport, Battello is very convenient, especially if you live in Hoboken, Newport or Jersey City. Despite all this, since the restaurant is on a pier, it's much quieter than the rest of the city. Decor: The interior was decorated beautifully. The Christmas decorations made everything feel super festive and this is a perfect date place with the view of Manhattan. Food: I liked my gnocchi entre and the cheese platter and octopus were good. The cheese platter was missing bread slices to go with the cheese but they remedied it after we let the wait staff know. Service: The service was great, but dessert took a while to come out. Price: A little pricey. Verdict: Worth checking out but dessert might take a while. Also, this place is a little pricey. read more
