This review is for lash extensions. After going a few times and having 2 different techs do my lashes this is my experience. My first visit was with a GroupOn with Darlene. She did a great job with my medium length lashes the first time. I thought their practice was a bit shady because when she learned that I had a GroupOn she quoted that the normal price for the medium lashes was a bit cheaper than a GroupOn Cert. I then put the price list in my phone that she quoted me. The next time I called Darlene directly, I wanted natural lashes. This time she did an okay job, she charged me $10 more than what she quoted me the first time I came and used a GroupOn certificate. I showed her the prices I put in my phone and she said that her prices went up. Okay, noted, I updated the price list. The next time I went to her, she once again attempted to charge me more than the previous time, I showed her the price list, she honored her last quote to me for Natural lashes. I joked that every time I come in her prices have gone up. My next experience, I called and made an appointment with the front desk with the lady who said she was the owner. I made an appointment and asked about prices. She quoted me the lash prices and the fill-in prices, I mentioned to her that these quotes were $10-15 cheaper than what Darlene had been charging me. She stated that the prices she quoted me were the shops prices and all techs should be charging that price. She made my appointment with Zoey. On my first visit Zoey did a good job. When it was time to pay, she tried charging me $10 more than what I was quoted on the phone. I explained to her my conversation with the owner, fortunately either the owner/shop manager overheard the conversation and acknowledged the prices. However, turns out for natural lashes she stated that she said $69 for natural lashes but I thought she said $59 honestly, and $50 for a 2-week fill-in. This I blame on the language barrier, even though I repeated the prices over the phone as I saved it the info. The medium and glamour prices did not change. I came back for a two week natural lash fill-in with Zoey, and she attemps to charge me $60 for a fill-in. I reminded her that I was there 2 weeks ago and discussed pricing, we agreed that Natural lashes are $69, a 2 week fill-in $50, and why would I pay near the same price for a full set AND a fill-in. She tried to act like she didn't remember, and asking who did I talk to, acting utterly baffled when I showed her the prices in my phone. Then she says okay this time I give you discount but next time a fill-in is $60. Wow. There will not be a next time. There are several other neighborhood lash studios that I will try out. This place is shady with their price structure, they charge different prices for different customers as evidenced by other reviews on this thread. I even suggested to the manager/owner that they POST their prices to alleviate confusion. Second, the glue or tape that Darlene uses caused my eyes to water really bad the second and third time she did my lashes. This did not happen with Zoey, nor did it happen the first time Darlene did my lashes. And my eyes did water at another salon that I have used, so I know this is not normal. The quality of the work is not consistent. My first visit with Darlene for the medium lashes was great. The second and third time, the natural lashes were a bit messy and did not last as long. I started losing lashes the next day! Bottom line, I DO NOT recommend this place for lashes. read more

I found a groupon for eyelash extensions and called to see when their next appointment was. Darlene informed me She would honor the price but I could just pay her. The first visit the lashes turned out wonderful even though it was more than the Groupon advertisement and the tape she used was poking my eye bad and hurt. Kept asking is it suppose to hurt this much (she seemed iterated ) but changed it to the gel most people use. Think they try to save money by using tape instead of what you're suppose to use. Again they looked great so I was still happy. So I went back for a fill. She used the tape again and poked my eye again. She made a comment about my eye always watering I said no it usually doesn't but it's poking my eye. So again she removed it and put the gel pad. Also felt her pulling lashes out and felt as she was cutting them too. At the end I went to pay and was wanting to use a credit card but she kept saying "you pay cash" "you have cash" I said yes but wanted to use a card "you pay cash". So I did. When I got home I looked in mirror and they are not half as good as they were the first time and already Had some daThey are shorter and not all in one direction. I texted her and told her they are shorter and she said no that's the longest we have. Which is not true because when I got them the first time she asked me which length and I didn't go with the longest. They also feel like they stick. Kind of feels like when you first wake up in the morning and can't open your eyes all the way. I'm really disappointed as I'm a good customer and a great tipper and was excited I found somewhere my eyelashes would look great. I want my $80 back from the last visit or I'm going to call better business bureau and Groupon and let them know what kind of business this is. This was painful and not what I wanted. Tina is simply the BEST!! A lovely personality with a very skilled hand!! I'm super happy with my permanent eyeliner!! I got both upper and lower lids done. I've been coming to Tina for several years. The first and second time I came to her was about 2 years ago when I needed a touch up on my eyebrows and wanted to get my upper and lower lids lined. I had gone to someone else prior for my eyebrows and decided to give Tina a try after seeing her on Groupon and reading her great reviews. I left loving my new eyebrow shape and color and really loved my new eye liner. She really has a good eye for what eyebrow shape fits your face best. Two years ago, Tina used a different numbing cream than she does now. Before, the eyebrow pain wasn't very bad, but this time, it was almost nonexistent. Two years ago, the eyeliner pain on a scale from 1-10 was most definitely a 12. I almost couldn't finish last time. Could you imagine walking around with one completely lined eye and one only halfway lined? LOL I managed to dig deep and finish the job, vowing to NEVER voluntarily put myself through that amount of pain again. Fast forward to now... I needed another touch up on my eyebrows so I went to see Tina about a month ago. She used a new numbing cream and the pain, I kid you not, was a ZERO. It felt like I was getting a mini forehead massage. Tina assured me that she was getting the same response when applying eye liner. I had a tough time believing that since my last experience, when I was about to grab her tool and launch it to get it away from my eyes, was so painful. I decided to take the bull by the horns and give it a try, putting all my faith in Tina. On Monday, 07.08.19, I had my eyeliner redone a little thicker than before. If on the pain scale it was a 12 two years ago, this time it barely registered a 1, maybe a 1 1/2 since my eyeball had some funny twitching sensations. But seriously, she now has some miracle numbing cream that by all accounts diminishes the pain to darn near nonexistent. If you're thinking about getting eyeliner but are hesitant due to the pain factor, stop thinking as the pain is no longer a factor. You won't regret it! read more

One month later I went back to get the bottom eyeliner done and I also decided to get the lips done too!! WOW - I am so pleased and would highly recommend Tina (408-476-1387). IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME WITH EyeLASH EXTENSIONS............... I bought a Groupon for lash extensions. First time ever, thought I'd try them. When I went to Beatrice, the first thing the lady told me was that I was not getting a full set of lashes. I'd have to pay more if I wanted that. I didn't know what a full set vs partial set was like.... It was hard to understand the lady since her accent was very thick. Not sure she was speaking English. She got the owner on the phone, but that wasn't very helpful. Then Beatrice got to work on my lashes. Turns out, (I learned later) there are different types, lengths and thicknesses and materials. And, there are three types of lash extensions: synthetic, silk and mink. Size availability ranges from 6mm to 17mm. Once selected, the lashes are applied one at a time using a specially formulated, semi-permanent glue that will not irritate the eye nor damage the natural lash, but choice of glue should be determined based on one's sensitivity, since allergic reactions are possible. But none of this was explained to me -- there were no options discussed. Shame on me for not researching this better before I went, but I take responsibility for my own lack of preparedness, and that's why I'm writing this review, -- so you will be better informed than I was! After I got home, and for the next 5 days, these lashes just about drove me insane! When I lay on my pillow at night, the lashes pushing against my pillow actually hurt. (They told me when i left to sleep on my back - now I get it). The glue is inflexible so it feels like there are these tiny, hard bits on your lashes. Plus they were so long they looked kinda funny, clownishI put up with this til they started falling out only bc it would have cost another $80 to have them removed! Now, six weeks later, they are almost gone, thank goodness. My own natural lashes seem thinner now, and I hope they grow back. This was not a good experience. One star because Helen is a sweetheart. And that's it. But this place is not worth coming to for eyelash extensions. My eyes were burning the morning after I had got them done. My eyes were in pain. The lashes are not mink. Each lash was hard and stiff. Very uncomfortable. Even worst when your eyes are burning from the glue and in general from the application of the lashes. I regret it! Not to mention I lost a lot of my natural lashes. Ladies, do not get you lashes done here. It is cheaper than other salons but they do not apply them properly. Another red flag is that there is poor hand hygiene here. Not once did she wash her hands or at least use hand sanitizer. read more

I came here with a Groupon for a Brazilian and yeah, I have definitely experienced better. Nancy was very nice and a fast worker, but she used soft wax and cloth strips and that is NO GOOD! For the love of all things good, use the hard wax! I didn't think they even allowed soft wax to be used on your ladybits anymore! EVERY place I have gone in the past 8 years has used the hard wax. First of all, it doesn't rip your skin off (and when you are getting sensitive parts waxed that is a MUST). Second, it is a much cleaner way to wax rather than re-using the strips of cloth. I get it, it is all me on that strip and that is a long piece of material, but still, something seems a bit unsanitary about using the same piece more than once. Thankfully there was NO double-dipping of the sticks in the wax!!! Also, I mean I know she is going to get all Nancy Drew up in my business, but can I at least take get undressed and lay on the table without you being in the room? I know modesty is not really a factor when you are getting a Brazilian but still, estheticians generally step out of the room and let you get situated and then come in, they don't ask you to drop trow with them in the room. I did appreciate that Nancy was willing to give me the Groupon price if I came back (so that I didn't have to buy the Groupon) but until they get hard wax I will not be coming back. read more

In reliance on other yelp reviews and on my quest for a decent nail place in the bay area, I made an appointment at Beatrice's. Fellow yelpers . . . you have failed me. The pros of Beatrice's: price. I got a mani and pedi for $30. Oh, and they accept credit cards, which was nice. The cons: many. Based on the photos, Beatrice's did not look that ghetto. It is. There is no ambiance, and it feels generally . . . dirty. The back door to the left of the massage chairs was open, from which we could hear one of the local latin american radio stations blaring from someone's house. Not exactly the relaxing, Sunday afternoon pampering I had hoped for. The woman doing my nails apparently does not see on the same horizontal plane as the rest of us. She not only cut my big toe on a diagonal, but also filed two of my nails at a 45 degree angle. I didn't really notice until she had finished painting the nails so I didn't say anything. Nothing pisses me off more than having to go home and file my own nails correctly after paying for a manicure (even if it was a cheap one). read more

Found this lovely salon thanks to Groupon. A girlfriend and I were looking for a place to get eyelash extensions and there was an awesome groupon for $59 (original $120). Called in the morning to make an appointment and spoke to Tina, who was very accommodating and helpful in getting us both in at the same time. Helen did my eyelash extensions and she was extremely friendly and thorough. It was my first time getting my lash extensions done so I had a lot of questions, which she gladly answered. She made sure she was doing them exactly how I wanted (length and thickness). I'm so happy with the results I referred my sister in law who's coming in this week to get them done and my aunt is coming in next week. Also got my eyebrows waxed by Helen and she's amazing. Will definitely be coming back here for more beauty needs (maybe semi permanent eyebrow tattooing) Too bad it's a little far from my house in San Jose, but definitely worth the drive! It was the first time I experienced someone else....ummm....waxing my "Netherlands" and was pretty apprehensive. DARLENE was the epitome of professionalism and I was immediately put at ease! Brazilian waxes are definitely the way to go, and I wouldn't go anywhere else for this service. Nice place, clean, and inexpensive. They will sell you your own kit, and provide a foot tub insert if you ask for it. All the pedicure chairs are massage chairs. The staff is friendly for the most part. I brought my Mom here and she comes every week now on her way from work. I forgot to mention - they are open 7 days a week (Sunday by appointment only), and they will stay open past their set hours to take care of the customer. My mom, sister and even husband go here now. Accommodating service and thorough waxing job! When I called, it was nearing closing time and they actually stayed open past 7pm so I could come in at 7:30pm. I thought that was awesome of them, but I figure, well if times are rough, you do what you gotta do. They knocked my Brazilian down to $35 for being a first-time customer. I had Nancy do my Brazilian and eye brows, both were awesome. I've never had as good of a Brazilian as this spot. Only thing was that she uses A LOT of small strips. Probably like 20 small ones vs. 8-10 larger ones, so you're going through a lot more ripping and it feels a little more painful, but I think it's better in the long run. Nancy is also a sweetheart, genuine and understanding. I know Vietnamese salons tend to sweet talk their customers to get them to come back, but I didn't get that. She was very open with conversation, which I'm a little paranoid sometimes because I hate Asian women seeing another Asian girl come in to get this kind of stuff done, like they're judging me, but she made me feel really comfortable and relaxed. After all, she does this to herself, so who's to judge? Nancy did offer to make me another appointment in 4 weeks, which I declined and she didn't push, which was nice. Got a groupon for this place to get a eyelashes extension. Call them to make an appointment over the phone and ask the girl over the phone is there any preparations that needed to be done. She told me no. Which was not the right answer, you don't want to go there with any makeup on or mascara on for sure! Trust me. I probably will not come here for an eyelashes extension if wasn't for the groupon. This place is nothing fancy. For the most part of the store was for nails and there are rooms to the side for other purposes such as eyelashes extension, plus this place smell like a nail salon. Anyway... the person who did my eyelashes was Tina. I think she is the only one who does the eyelashes extension. I think she spent almost an hour doing my eyelashes extension. I got the natural one which indeed looks very natural. I think it was the perfect length for my asian eyes. I like how the eyelashes are not all the same length, hence the natural look. Tina was not good giving post-care instruction. She actually gave none. i was the one who asked her how should I maintained it and is there anything to watch out for. Even with that, she answered poorly. She had another appointment right after me, maybe that was the reason. Luckily I was able to looks up post care instruction online. There are 2 things I don't like about the eyelashes extension I received. Being that this is my first time getting eyelashes extension, I don't know if the problems I had occurs to other people/place as well. But here you go: 1st is that the eyelashes are really stiff. It's really feel like the eyelashes that I put on myself. And it hurts if you accidentally pushed on it. For the first few days, I can feel that I have nothing on my lids, which was pretty annoyed. 2nd is that those eyelashes burns!!! Every time I washed my face or take a shower and the water got into my eyes, it burns like crazy!!! This didn't just happen to me but to one of my friend who got it done by Tina as well. According to me friend, "I paid money to torture myself." Yeah. Not a good feeling. It has been 3 weeks and it still burns. I don't know if it supposed to be like that or this place just used some kind of cheap material (maybe it's the glue? I don't know) Yeah... no more eyelashes extension from this place. Tina's always done my waxing - but since Nancy started I've been seeing her a lot too. She is a real sweetheart and does a great job with waxing! When I come to Beatrice salon, I feel exactly like Elle Woods from Legally Blonde... I finally have a salon and my main person to turn to for some groomin' and lovin'! I've been coming here for awhile now, thanks to Groupon! And each time I come here, I see Nancy. She's very sweet and quick with all her services. Her services are also quite a steal, especially if you promise to come back and see her. What's also nice is she's easy to get a hold of and texts a reminder for an appointment. Of course, like all waxes, they hurt like no other, but what I like about my trip with Nancy is that it doesn't feel sensitive like it normally does after any other wax... There has been a time though, where she wanted to reschedule and asked me to come in immediately. it seems like the other employees there aren't really mindful and fight for clients. So... be careful. I also sometimes get a bit nervous since she gets a little pushy about getting nails or eyebrows done, etc. Also, this place is a typical Vietnamese salon. Don't be surprised if they talk smack about you behind your back, ask about your love life, and call you honey. =) Overall, it's a budget-friendly salon. Twice I went and Tina was out of town, evidently she instructed the staff to help me, but when I showed up they simply told me Tina was out (offered no help) and sent me packing. I brought a eyelash extension on Group-on. I called this morning to make an appointment and was able to come in on the same day! (Keep in mind that this is the second time I've gotten eyelash extensions; however, my first time wasn't at this particular salon). Helen was the one that did my lashes and they turned out amazing! I got the thin, middle length. I was completely comfortable the entire time. There wasn't any pain or eye watering, which i had gotten when i went to a different salon. There also wasn't any lashes pointing in directions where they shouldn't. Each lash is completely isolated. I am very satisfied. Bought a Groupon for a Brazilian wax and it was the worst waxing experience of my life. The lady was rushing and rubbed numbing cream onto the inside of my vulva which stung like hell. She then proceeded to roughly smear the wax on and rip it off without placing her hand over it afterwards to ease the sting. There were many places she went over 5+ times, and she kept blaming my hair for being too thick when I have had other places only go over each part once or twice. In the end, she didn't even have oil to wipe off the excess wax so it was rubbed off with baby wipes. There were still many hairs left that weren't taken off. I bought a living social voucher for this place that was $60 for a full set, supposed to cover $120. I get there and the lady I had said I'm going to have to pay an extra $30 to get a proper set otherwise it would be very very natural. I wanted it to be full and have more volume so I went along with it. I got these on MONDAY and it is WEDNESDAY morning. They are sparse, uneven and very very natural. I'm not exactly sure what they intended people to get for the voucher but this is with an additional $30, so it ended up being $95. These are not full or have volume whatsoever. I tried explaining to her that the voucher is supposed to cover up to $120 but she did not understand. She said that what I had done usually costs $100 so I'm confused why I had to get charged an extra $30 if my voucher was supposed to cover that ( the whole point of buying it "50% off". I'm going to call and see if they can get fixed but if you bought the living social voucher be ready to pay extra for very minimal work. My lady also was talking on the phone and kept leaving the room and talking to people so I feel I did not get the proper work I payed for. I feel they do not understand the concept of living social an instead just applied what I bought to the regular price.
