Decided to move CA to NC in 20121. We called and requested a quote from Gabbie in January but didn't actually move until September so it really saved us a lot of money calling that far in advance! Beefcake Moving and Storage are terrible movers. My fiancé and I moved our belongings from an apartment in Los Angeles, CA to San Antonio, TX. Beefcake says they do long distance moves, but the movers who arrived with our belongings were actually contracted through a third-party. Although they did not pack the truck, the third party movers unloaded all of our items. The first mistake occurred during our pickup. The two movers themselves were very nice and packaged our stuff carefully, but they lost our headboard. Gabby called us the next day asking us if we had the headboard. We obviously did not and she seemed to imply that it was our fault that the headboard did not make it into the truck. Gabby ended up purchasing us a new bed frame free of cost, but I feel like that is because we had not made our second payment for deliver yet. Although giving plenty of time in advance about our first availability date, we waited almost the full 30 day business period. We were available mid-July and waited until mid-August to receive our belongings. Gabby would not tell us when our belongings would be there or even give us an estimated time frame. Every time we called, we got the answer "all of our trucks are out right now". The icing on the cake was when our belongings arrived and my desk was BROKEN IN HALF. The third party movers informed me that the desk was like this when it was packed into the truck. I received no information from Gabby at all or any follow up after my belongings were dropped off about the desk. I had to call myself to confront her about the situation and since the company had my last payment, I was referred to their third party claims company. My claim was DENIED and it took over 3 months for the company even to respond to my claim. Long story short: Beefcake only cares about their customers when they still owe them money. read more

The service started out good. The movers who came to get my belongings at pickup worked for the company and were great. Things went horrible when it was delivered. They use operators who are rude and have the worst customer service. They said the truck couldn't fit down the alley when management had told us it would. The delivery guys said it was their call to make and charged me an extra $450 to unload. They even threatened to leave my belongings on the side of the road if I didn't pay the $450. Who does that? Received the initial quote of around $6,000 which was before packing. No representative from the company came to check my initial pre-packing inventory. I updated my box count twice with the last time they said that it's getting close to capacity for the truck. Movers arrived and gave me a quote for around $11,000 because of some extra items not on the list because they MAY need another truck. My scam alert went off immediately. This is a move from SoCal to Phoenix of a 1100 sqft 3 br house. In comparison, our move from the midwest to SoCal cost $8000. I called the rep and also received a call from the supervisor who said not to worry. If I hadn't said something what would have happened? We needed to store our load for a week at their holding place. When we received our stuff I noticed some of our boxes had been broken down and items moved into other boxes or laundry hampers. Also the kicker was I opened up a box with my daughters video games and discovered that her Nintendo Switch box was empty. The system box was there, but the contents were not. When I tried to file a claim it was denied because the contents of each box was not written down. Can you imagine trying to do that? Haha So long story long, if you are not paying attention they will add extra charges and definitely do not label boxes if they are going into their storage place unless you want you're possessions ripped off. I recently moved from a 1 bedroom 3rd floor apartment in West Hollywood on Larrabee St. to a larger 2nd floor unit in Portland, Or. Beefcake Movers were very punctual, extremely fast, professional and made the whole experience stress free. Never needed to give them any instructions as they knew their job inside out. The job/work, fees and inventory were discussed thoroughly during my initial phone call and was very satisfied with the customer service that was provided via telephone. Everything was superbly packed and I like that they wrapped up my large furniture pieces with plastic wrap and blankets, ensuring that none of my furniture got dirty or scratched during the move. To be honest, I was a little skeptical that 3 men would be enough manpower to move all my stuff, but they proved me wrong! I was extremely impressed with their work ethic; they were efficient and moved pretty fast, considering 1) the apt I moved out of is located on the 3rd floor with no elevator, 2) my new apt is on the 2nd floor with no elevator, 3) I had tons of heavy boxes and large heavy furniture! I should mention that most of my furniture is white and the cautious measures that were taken to keep my furniture clean were phenomenal!!! The move started at 9am and was completed by 12pm, referring to my belongings being packed into the truck. I had them completely disassemble my furniture so that they could reassemble furniture once it was in my new place. Rules and regulations do not allow them to reassemble any piece of furniture that is not disassembled by them, which makes total sense due to liability issues. Beefcake took care of part 2 of my relocation from Orange County, CA to North Las Vegas, NV. The 1st movers actually moved very little because the cost was jacked up when they arrived at my O.C. 1bdr apartment. We all know it's very expensive to move out of CA, but the misquote is on them. Needing the rest of my stuff moved, understanding the cost per sq. in. in the van and adding in stairs, etc., I found Beefcake. Gabbie walked me through it, went over it with me several times being upfront and honest about the "do you really need that?" questions as we discussed cost. She worked with me on the date a couple of times to assure my delivery would be within a reasonable time period. The move out was with two gents who listened, made suggestions, were extremely professional and kind. The move in was during a sudden rain shower and the gents doing the move in were as professional as the move out guys. While there was a little leakage in my plastic crates from the rain, nothing was damaged or ruined thanks to the tape and layers of cardboard the move out guys used that absorbed the water. Payment was handled per Gabbie's recommendations. I highly recommend Beefcake as it has been a month since their delivery and all is intact and accounted for, and what they couldn't fit based on cost fit into my Honda CR-V for my last drive to my new home. read more

So I had requested a quote for a relatively small move- 6 pieces of furniture from the living room. Nothing else. First off, I was stunned that there was a 4 hour minimum for moving. Not exactly something I needed for a move 20 minutes away (I'm aware that DDT being added on top of the minimum is a thing as well). Being at work I managed to get a quick call in to speed up the quote process and answer a few questions in hopes of getting a quote emailed to me so I could go over it later. That's when I was told it would be a $900 move. For 6 pieces of furniture and ZERO boxes. When I asked if I could be emailed the quote I was told that it was $900 (no breakdown of this price) and then I needed to end the call since I'm at work- asking for it to be emailed to me. I would not move with Beefcake. Good: Loading Crew Bad: Sales Team, Pricing, Organization Starting with the good: the loading crew was professional, efficient, and friendly. On to the bad: I was given a binding quote of about 1K and set up a day to move. I was not given any more information. In my mind a binding quote means that that is the amount that I will pay. When all was said and done I ended up paying about 500 dollars more in packing materials and labor for the crew. I thought all of that was included when I filled out the inventory of my things and spoke with the sales rep, but it was not. Any part of furniture made of glass will cost you big time. Each piece of glass was required to be packed in a crate. Each crate was 90 dollars. You can imagine how that could get expensive quickly. Large crates are something like 150. These are SIGNIFICANT costs that should be discussed up front and the sales team should do a much better job of estimating the price. Giving a binding quote and then ending up demanding 50% more in cash on the day of the move is not acceptable to me. This was my first time moving in California, but when I moved in Texas, I was given a price and I paid it. The sales representative also never discussed when my things would actually be delivered. Since no date was discussed I assumed it would be the same day it was picked up. When I talked to the manager he said that was a reasonable assumption. The problem is, I called Beefcake the day before my move to make sure everything was set up and in line. It was only THEN that they informed me that delivering my things would take 7-21 business days. This is something that needs to be planned for. I set up the appointment a month in advance and that should have been discussed the FIRST time we spoke, not the day before the move. To their credit: I spoke with the manager and after I was about to cancel my pickup and look for another company, the manager said he could guarantee that my things would be delivered early the next week. That time frame is reasonable, but 21 days is not. If it would have taken 21 days I should have been notified of this far in advance. In conclusion: those doing the actual labor were good to work with. Their business and logistics side is terrible ***Update*** I had almost forgotten about this travesty when a manager from Beefcake commented on this review saying they have discussed this with me offline. Yes, I had gotten a call almost a year ago when I first posted this review asking if there was anything they could do to make it right. I asked for some of my money back. They said they would discuss it with the partners and get back to me. What a step in the right direction, I thought. They never got back to me. First and foremost, NOTHING in my review was false, and I have disproved all the lies/inaccuracies from her comments, below: 1. Yes, my move date was 6/28/16. I see you failed to mention that my delivery date was 8/17/16. 6/18/16 to 8/17/16 is exactly 7 WEEKS AND 1 DAY. Please do your math first before accusing me of lying. I clearly stated in my original post that the ~7 weeks also accounted for storage time. 2. $150 + $75 = $225. $225 is in fact HUNDREDS of dollars. So yes, as I said - I truly did pay HUNDREDS more for pickup than my binding quote stated. You also incorrectly stated that my grand total was $1497. My grand total was $1647 (additional delivery charges too, but I paid those willingly because they were actually FAIR). 3. That photo was definitely taken at my home by my mom at the pickup on 6/28/16. Those are MY boxes sitting behind YOUR truck in that photo! What a ridiculous accusation!! Also, my mom did NOT ask the mover to back into a parking spot. She asked for the truck to back up to the end of the cul-de-sac shown in the photo, which is much closer to my home. THERE IS PLENTY OF ROOM behind the truck. I've also uploaded an aerial view of my property, showing where the truck was parked (red block, size and position approximate) and where the door to my home is located (yellow star). Does the distance from my door to the asphalt look like 150 ft? You be the judge. Also, as shown in my photos, your truck blocks cars no matter where it's parked in the lot, so that's not a valid excuse. 4. You also failed to mention that while yes, you did bill me for a "hideaway sofa," or rather a "SOFA, 4 CUSHION HIDE-AWAY" to be exact, you ALSO billed me extra for an additional "CHAISE LOUNGE" piece due to the "odd shapes" of my sofa when I explained the nature of my sofa to you over the phone BEFORE pickup. So like I said, you already charged ONE sofa as TWO pieces of furniture before the extra $150 "bulky" fee was demanded at pickup. 5. Please tell me - which additional items did you move for me that were not listed on the inventory sheet, and which I was not charged for? I would LOVE to know what items you are referring to. (Hint: there are NONE because you just made that up right now.) 6. I suspect the foreman pressured my mom into signing the inventory list with this "note" regarding the desk WITHOUT discussing it with me or my mom first. Had the foreman said to us that the desk would not be insured, then I would have told him NOT to move the desk at all! You said it yourself - a desk like that needed to be properly disassembled in order to be transported safely. 7. I've never dealt with a moving company that REFUSED to schedule a delivery date. I have email proof that I asked you about delivery dates multiple times BEFORE you even shipped my items. Giving customers a 5 DAY WINDOW with no exact date is unreasonable and unfair! And how could I have known that once you shipped my items, you would not allow me to select, request, or even discuss a delivery date with you? You NEVER communicated this info to me before my items were shipped, nor is this stated anywhere in the contract I signed with you. That is just plain unethical on your part. Also, let me reiterate that when I authorized you to ship my items, you told me you would call me back to discuss delivery dates, but you NEVER DID. 8. Again, I did not receive 24 hours' notice from the delivery driver before he arrived. You made it VERY inconvenient for me to schedule someone to receive the delivery, and this is after I already told you I was out of town. Also, Beefcake did NOT apologize for this at all. 9. Yes, I did file a dispute with my credit card company against you. However, I told them exactly who you are, what business we did together, and why I was filing the dispute against you. I never acted like I didn't know who you were. Also, you only tried contacting me AFTER I filed the dispute. And in fact, you failed to mention that I had contacted both you and the foreman to discuss the extra charges, and both of you shut me down and REFUSED to remove the $225 in extra charges from my bill. (By the way, I was successful in getting my $127 deposit back. I don't know why you're saying it was denied.) 9. Per instructions on the contract I signed, I did file a claim with the third party claims department, so it's highly unlikely that you are unaware of my claim. 10. I would like to point out that your sarcastic "sorry if your dining table has a scruff" remark on Yelp was the only "apology" of any form that I've EVER received from Beefcake in response to my multiple concerns/complaints. Nearly every time I've contacted you, either over the phone or via email, I never got my "issues" addressed. You either played dumb, or just disregarded my "issues." So don't pretend to be innocent. I received an initial quote of $4200.00 and when a representative from the company arrived it immediately jumped to $6700.00. After contacting Gabbie, she knocked down the price to $6,300.00 however they were ridiculous at what they did not disclose up front, I had no choice but to pay them, as I had to be out that day and had no choice. Upon moving in they damaged several items, scraped my from door upon move in, damaged my dining room table, my dresser, a brand new desk took a huge chunk out of it, they damaged a lamp shade and completely destroyed a end table which I did not even realize until they were gone and found it in the garage. this is a horrible company. Summary: If you're looking for an inexpensive move of a one or two bedroom well-packed set of items, these guys are pretty good. I chose Beefcake because they have a discretionary pricing model which distinguished them from other moving companies. I needed a long distance move from San Diego to San Francisco at very short notice (within the week). I wanted discretionary pricing (e.g. priced by the item) because I kept all of my boxes for my TV, dishes etc., and knew I could minimize the number of items to be moved. Positive: - Discretionary pricing model was ideal for my situation - Agents were very responsive and easy to deal with on the phone - Good customer service - They jumped on the opportunity and didn't waste time - Movers were fast and efficient - Time windows for pickup and delivery were reasonable Would be 5/5 but... - Movers were a bit too hasty at times and I was worried about the walls (e.g. wrapped mattress and box spring up together and had to shove it through one hallway. I didn't notice marks but it was risky, e.g. I might be wary of moving a piano if I had one) - Discretionary pricing has potential for "nickel and diming" - I was worried that items such as ironing boards etc., weren't easily classified and the costs might add up. We hired BEEFCAKE MOVING to move some office furniture from LA to our STL offices. DON'T USE THEM. Payment Policy: You pay 65% down and the rest is due before they unload the furniture. They increased what we owed twice: Once upon pick up when they said the desks (2 U shaped and 1 L shaped) were considered 2 and 3 person desks. (there was nothing on the contract that asked what shape the desks were or listed them as extra fee items). And second upon arrival when the mover said it was more than 75 feet from the truck to our office door. If he had not pulled up so far it wouldn't have been over 75 feet. Movers: Beefcake hired a guy to pack up the furniture, where he took everything apart and didn't mark what pieces went with what. A different mover picked up the items and transported them to our office, where upon arrival he threw a fit about where we wanted him to park, stating he was scared he would get hit by a car or get a parking ticket. A police officer, our building security officer and I were all trying to talk reason to the guy but he kept whining. I finally convinced him to proceed by offering to stand outside with him and tell him if a car was coming. (This was a side road, not heavily travelled, and only a parking lane away from the curb). He brought no help except for his wife, he had no ramp to unload, me and my colleagues had help him with several items. And after he finally unloaded, he stated that he doesn't put anything together, and left. He would only accept cash, (isn't it hard to document payment for tax purposes with cash??). I used beefcake moving moving for my move to Ventura county. After finding them on yelp and reading their reviews I thought I'd give them my business. Pick Up- They did not disappoint, Hector and Daryl got to my place early started going over my paperwork and got to work. Amazing work these guys do and I must say they represent there company very well. They were well mannered and didn't skip a beat. They disassembled my furniture and wrapped it with such care. My boxes were a mess the way I had packed them and there were nice enough to re-tape them without charging me extra. Delivery- went even smoother then pick up, these guys really live up to there name, my new apartment is on the 3rd floor no elevator and they moved my furniture up the stairs as if it weigh 10 lbs. Once again.. Impressed. After all my belongings were unloaded and brought up they place every piece of furniture were I requested, such curtesy. Beefcake responded very quickly to my short term request for an out of state move. They gave me an accurate bid and rebated some of it because they arrived a little late for the pickup. Everything was well packed. The responded to communication quickly. Communication with Beefcake was good. They always picked up the phone and got back to me with accurate information. At my destination, they were a day early. All drivers were friendly and professional. I highly recommend. As an aside: All movers are the same when it comes to quotes. If you give them the correct information, they will be able to give you an accurate quote. If you forget stuff or don't mention stairs and access and packing, you won't get an accurate quote. You can't ask them to pay for your bad packing or forgetfulness. read more

I am very pleased with the service I recently received from Beefcake. The move and delivery was a success and their price is unbeatable. I checked with about 6 or 7 different companies for a quote and Beefcake beat their competitors by at least $200. When I first looked into them I was concerned since they are still relatively new with little history of reporting by users. But they best fit my budget constraints so I decided to give them a try. The sales rep answered all my questions to insure I understood the process and the pricing well. She went through the quote with me line by line. So nothing surprised me except their great price especially since the move was across country from CA to NC. On top of that she accommodated my multiple methods of payment and kept an open dialogue on the preliminary process. The delivery was great and the guy was very nice. I appreciated the number system for the boxes that Beefcake uses to insure all boxes are delivered and received. I've used a different mover in the past and lost a couple of items without realizing it until several days after the delivery, so their number system was a big plus for me. Here is my experience with Beefcake on a long-distance move from CA to MI: 1. When they arrived the day of the move to load the truck, they informed me that I needed to pay 20% before they would do anything. I admit that I added three rugs and a washer/dryer to a 6 bedroom - 7,000 sq ft house move, and according to them this increased the price 20%. However, at this point I had no choice, so I paid it. 2. They started loading the truck on July 22nd and unloading on August 19th. Technically, this is within their delivery schedule as they can take as long as 21 business days to deliver your furniture and you should expect them to take this long. 3. When they arrived to unload, the driver wouldn't park on my street, in fact he wouldn't even drive on my street. This is a street in Michigan where cars park on both sides and one can still drive through them...but he wouldn't drive on this empty street (I asked my neighbors to move). So now they informed that they needed $2,500 more for shuttle service (i.e. renting a small moving truck) and that they would not unload my furniture until I paid. Again, at this point I had no choice, so I had to pay. They might be OK on a local move as the loading and unloading was pretty good, but stay away from Long-Distance moves with these guys. read more
