Because we waited so long for our chef to arrive I asked to see the manager because our entire party was there and we had two additional people at our table. I was shocked, whyvdid she need security for a table of seven people to inquire why we had been waiting over an hour for the chef to come to the table. He was pleasant enough but he made it very clear he was there to cook the food, not entertain us with food tricks while he prepared it. The most he did was make a heart shape with our rice. The air was either not working or it was turned off because everyone seated at our table mentioned how hot it was in the restaurant and the chef had to keep wiping sweat off his face. My 76 year old mother requested to come here for her birthday because she had the $50 birthday certificate. I had called beforehand and Jody informed me that the certificate can be used on Sunday before 430pm. Our reservation was at 6 so we didn't use it. Feeding 5 people came up to $520. I truly didn't have a $500 dining experience however this included three glasses of wine, two martinis, two long Island ice teas and a beer. I imagine they are mostly still open because of nostalgia because its definitely not the service.. This place needs an overhaul beyond belief!!! NEVER AGAIN. Such a bad experience however the only thing that was good was our chef-Chef James. He was great. Even spelled out our grandsons name in rice since it was his birthday. Our server on the other hand was atrocious!!!!! We were sitting down for 40 min and NOTHING. No "your server will be with you soon" or "what can I get you to drink while you wait?". I had to ask for all of our drinks THREE times, THREE different people. Finally the last person I asked was a manager. The place was HOT!!!! Not good for anyone but especially silly a woman in menopause. They had all kinds of plastic bag venting going on, portable air conditioners and don't get me started on the decor! For the $$$$ they are charging people to eat here the decor should be impressive. Our server-sadly didn't get his name-was a young skinny male who was HORRIBLE in so many ways. I didn't want to even tip him and I usually always tip 30%. He didn't deserve a dime. Phew. I don't think that I've had a worse dining experience in years. I haven't been to Benihana in so long. The only reason I ventured there was because my boyfriend wanted to finally take advantage of one of their birthday gift cards, so we decided to head there for lunch with our toddler. We made our 1:45 reservation by just minutes, but we were quickly seated by the young lady at the hostess stand. As our table filled with other guests, we chatted as we waited for a server or chef. We waited. And waited And waited. Around 2:20, a super sweet waitress named Ashley greeted us. She was so nice! She went down the menu options at lightning speed and took our drink & appetizer orders. Later on, I saw Ashley handling two other large parties, even being super fun & engaging with a tambourine celebrating a birthday at another table. So to be clear, Ashley was amazing! The issue came when we continued to sit without even water. Yes, servers put their drink orders in but it's even more than that. Seeing that she seemed to be the only server with multiple tables, that's a bigger issue. As we continued to wait for any attention at all as other tables got drinks, we noticed a woman who was obviously management. She repeatedly visited the POS system which was DIRECTLY next to our table. She continued to glance at our table, seeing that we had no drinks and that I personally looked disgruntled. She continued to walk around the dining room looking over tables but not doing a thing to help an obviously overwhelmed team of servers and chefs. When we finally got her attention, she gave us the "one second" finger, walked away and then finally came back 5 min later. When we voiced our concerns, instead of offering any assistance, apologies, hell, even a carafe of cold water for us as we waited. She walked away, talked to Ashley and kept going. When my boyfriend went to the restroom minutes later, he respectfully addressed her again and she still did nothing. When does someone step in to say, "We're sorry for the delay, can I get you all a drink? Our chefs are a little backed up, we'll get someone over here with your apps." As a former waitress and bartender, as well as one who frequently dines out I understand and appreciate the hard work happening there and that things happen. However, the lack of communication, haste or desire to even help turn around a bad experience proved that this location and management team lost 4 different parties of customers in one swoop. We all ended up leaving our table empty around 2:51 after being beyond fed up with the lack of effort on the manager. I thanked Ashley before leaving as she was the only one to even try to apologize and explain the situation while her manager continued to dodge accountability on our way out. I've always sat at the hibachi tables, but this time since I was dining solo and needed to be in/out fairly quick, I decided to sit at the bar. The man running the bar was pretty efficient, despite being busy. He was always moving - cleaning, taking orders, pouring drinks, serving food - he never stopped working hard. Even though my order was taken promptly, the kitchen must've been very backed up because it took a hot hot minute for my food to come out. My steak entree was fantastic - they definitely used a lot of the garlic butter heh - not great for the body, but very tasty. My shrimp on the other hand was quite a let down compared to the steak. The portion size is clearly smaller, and it wasn't as flavorful as the steak. Something I do appreciate about the lunch entrees is that it comes with vegetable fried rice. One small gripe is that Benihana is quite pricey. I think the lunch prices are okay, but I've seen the dinner prices and it's steep. AYCE level prices, but for an entree. I have not been to Benihana in at least 10 years, and I hope that I will not return for another 10 years or more. I went for a friend's birthday, so I had to appease the birthday girl. Nothing has changed, at least for the better, since my last visit. The chefs are less talented than they used to be and the prices have skyrocketed. The only positive change is a tofu/vegetarian entree option. Be ready to pay at least $65 for any meal, unless you get the tofu which is $35. Fried rice will incur an upcharge though. Our chef literally only did one "trick" which was making the heart of rice beat. Very sad show. We had a reservation but still had to wait an exceptionally long time to get the food service started. I gave them 2 vs 1 stars because the food actually tasted good and the portion was large. The menu states "dipping sauces". We were only given yum yum sauce. When I mentioned it, the chef asked if we wanted ginger sauce too. We shouldn't have to ask but pretty sure we should've also gotten teriyaki and/or soy sauce as well. I also mentioned that we didn't get a show, at the end after preparing everyone's meal, then the chef did the onion ring of fire and attempted to do the choo-choo train but the train lost steam before it left the station and definitely fell off the tracks (fell apart) when he tried to move it. Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Unbearable Dining Conditions and Customer Service I arrived with a party of 15 guests to celebrate a very special occasion: a student who was recently awarded a $25,000 scholarship, along with her birthday. We were looking forward to celebrating this significant accomplishment together. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by the unbearable heat inside the restaurant. The temperature in the establishment was so excessive that our drinks were visibly melting, and guests were perspiring through their clothing. The conditions were extremely uncomfortable and, quite frankly, unacceptable for a restaurant of Benihana's reputation and price point. The photograph accompanying this complaint clearly illustrates the conditions we were experiencing, including the excessive condensation on our drinks. I personally spoke with Manager Meisha and Manager Kenny, as well as our chef, Omar, regarding the temperature. I was particularly concerned to learn that this is apparently an ongoing issue. I was told that corporate is aware of the problem and that it occurs every year. Chef/wait staff stated that the restaurant is cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Kenny also told us that we had the option to either stay or leave. While I understand that unforeseen facility issues can occur, telling a party of 15 guests that our only options were to stay or leave was extremely disappointing. We had made plans to celebrate an important milestone for a deserving student, and leaving was not a realistic or reasonable option at that point. We should not have been placed in the position of having to choose between abandoning our celebration or enduring unacceptable dining conditions. Additionally, I was very disappointed by the pricing. Given the prices charged at this Benihana location, the overall experience did not come close to meeting the level of service and comfort that customers should reasonably expect. My friends and I came here for a birthday dinner, and unfortunately the experience was horrible from the moment we walked in. There were only four of us at the bar, yet the bartender repeatedly said she was "overwhelmed" despite not making drinks for anyone at the bar or in the restaurant. We ordered steamed rice and didn't receive it until we were nearly finished eating, even after asking both the waitress and the cook multiple times. The cook had a noticeably dry personality...not rude, but very flat and disengaged. He kept self‑proclaiming that he was such a great cook yet later mentioned he had only been cooking for six months, which honestly matched the quality of the food. Every dish across our group was overly salty and drenched in butter, a consistent complaint from all of us. From the time we sat down to the time we finally got our checks, more than two hours had passed. Meanwhile, we watched another family of four come in, be seated, eat, and leave all within the span of our visit. I have never beem to a Benihana before so I figured it was worth a shot. Boy was that a bad decision. The service was not good and neither was the food. They gave our appetizers to other people and charged us for it. They also never came back around to ask if I wanted another drink or refill my water. The food was over salted which is common in mediocre food places. Rather than just use high quality ingredients, they just salt the hell out of things. I couldn't eat my food. It was low quality and super salty. The final bill was over $500 (after I made them remove the appetizers they never gave us) for 5 people with everyone either getting a soda or 1 mixed drink. I must admit I was a little nervous dining here based on the Yelp and Google reviews. We went here for my niece's 13th birthday, and reservations were made for a party of 12. The food show was entertaining, both adults and kids were laughing and smiling. Everyone enjoyed their meal and I was pleased with my spicy hibachi shrimp meal, I had enough for leftovers. However, my sister only received 8 shrimp in her hibachi shrimp meal and thought it was too expensive for the portion she received.   This was a Saturday night and the restaurant was packed.   Self-parking was available in the restaurants private lot. There was armed security inside, so not sure if sometimes there are incidents at this location. I probably wouldn't dine here too late, I would come early when you see more families. Definitely a more younger crowd as time passed.   With that said, this is not a gourmet restaurant, and for the experience and food I think it's at least worth 3 solid stars. A server came to us at 9:05 and we received our drinks at 9:15, and the chef came over at 10:15. The server next to us was on top of it and her table (who sat 20 min after us), had their drinks and apps quicker than us! Highly recommend Benihana (Buckhead) for a great meal anytime, but especially for their "Be the Chef" special experience. I purchased the "Be the Chef" experience for my grown up son to celebrate his birthday. Everyone had a blast, ate a huge meal, and fond memories were made. KICK ROCKS!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. Please read the other one and two star reviews here. I wish I had prior to going and having a disappointing experience. First of all, make sure you aren't seated under the A/C vent, because you'll have to tell the unbothered server that the water condensation from it is dripping on you. Then you'll have to wait about 10mins for a worker to get a mop handle/towel to wipe the vent off, while holding your own plate because you don't want the water dripping on your plate. Also, though the website has a lunch menu listed, they don't offer one at the restaurant. My party was told that menu as of 3wks ago was ONLY for take out/delivery services. WTF??!! Shout out to our cook, John. He was professional and pleasant. My coworkers and I came to celebrate three special events in our lives. WE SHOULD HAVE CHOSEN ELSEWHERE. Long story short, don't ignore the reviews, even if it has been a few years. I arrived at 6:50pm to attend a birthday party with a 7:30 pm reservation. We didn't get seated until til after 8pm. Finding a parking spot was terrible for this to be a private lot. I expected better. Nevertheless, it was what it was. If you visit just take heed that it will be better to carpool or you will be waking a few blocks if the parking lot is full. Let's fast forward to finally being seated. The waitress took our drink order. I ordered the hibiscus flower power tea. In red print on the menu it states complimentary refills, which is my prime reason for ordering it. I also ordered a sushi roll, and of course hibachi that was also to come with soup, salad, green tea and ice cream. I purposely added a picture of the online menu but please be warned, it states this on the menu in person as well. Refill on teas are complimentary. The waitress stated that she only gave me a refill because her manager was "looking out for me". There was nothing to look out for me on! This was my 2nd glass of tea in the entire 2-3 hours I was there and we never received the complimentary green tea with the meal or the ice cream. Back to the food, the soup came before the sushi, the salads came seconds before the chef arrived. Because of the position of the tables, our chef and the other chef in front our table were on top each other trying to cook. It looked uncomfortable for them from my point of view. Nevertheless, our chef attempted to make up for poor service and cramped accommodations. The food was decent. I also appreciated the fact that he made note of my food allergy and cooked my food separate and separate sauce from the table. Overall, don't waste your time. This location needs a remodel cause it appeared dated, the parking lot is too small for the volume, service is entirely too slow and wait staff is uniformed. When the soup arrived, I wanted to cancel my sushi because at this point what's the point of an appetizer. And the soup was lukewarm at best. The waitress reply was, these things take a long time. The order in which the food came told me the kitchen was discombobulated. I hate to be complaining but for the price you pay for food, quality should be just a tad bit better. I expected better. But anyhoo, I tipped my server 15% off my tab and wished her the best. Maybe she was newly hired, I'm not sure but there is always room for improvement. I've been a huge Benihana fan since I was a kid, and the downtown Peachtree Center location was always one of my favorite spots before it closed. That place was clean, vibrant, diverse, and had a welcoming, family-friendly vibe that made every visit feel special. So, I was really excited to return for a birthday celebration, but sadly, this visit, along with my last one in Alpharetta, didn't live up to those memories. The atmosphere wasn't what I hoped for. It was so loud that it was difficult to hold a normal conversation at our table. Benihana used to feel like a universal, family-oriented spot where people connected, but this location leaned more toward a party or hipster crowd, which dampened the experience. Even before stepping inside, the smell of weed in the parking lot set an off vibe. Once seated, the people at our table came across as aloof, unfriendly, and overly demanding. In the past, meeting new table mates was part of the fun and ritual, this time it felt awkward and isolating. It's now happened to me on two visits in a row, which is concerning. Bringing a big group of 8+ seems to help, but I shouldn't have to rely on that just to enjoy the night. On the bright side, the hostess who seated us was fantastic, very friendly, attentive, and gave me hope for a good evening. She even refilled my lemonade without me noticing or asking, which is excellent customer service and something others could learn from. Unfortunately, the rest of the service didn't live up to that standard. We felt overlooked much of the night while some people seated right next to us seemed to get more attention. I've seen reviews praising a chef named Jose, and I wish we'd gotten him, because our chef felt very different. He was a younger guy who came across as disengaged and dismissive, just going through the motions instead of bringing the fun, energy, and interaction that make Benihana special. When we spoke up, he acted like he couldn't hear us, and when we finally did get his attention, our requests felt like an afterthought. At one point, hot oil splattered onto me and my brother, and instead of apologizing, he brushed it off completely. That was both careless and disappointing. The food itself was still tasty overall, but not prepared the way it should've been. The garlic butter was overused, leaving dishes greasy and mushy. The steak, chicken, and shrimp were overcooked, likely because the chef defaulted to well-done after some table mates requested it, but in the process, our own instructions were ignored. At Benihana, those details matter, and getting them wrong really takes away from the experience. It feels like this location (and Alpharetta as well) has shifted from the classic Benihana formula toward a high-volume, fast-paced approach. The result is less attentiveness, less quality control, and an atmosphere that feels impersonal compared to the warm, diverse, and engaging Peachtree Center days. Back then, all the sauces were ready without having to ask, portions were consistent, and the staff really brought the experience to life. Those are the things that made Benihana memorable, and what Master Aoki built the brand on. Benihana has always been a go-to spot for me, so it really hurts to write this review because I have such a soft spot for it. I'm not ready to give up on it, but I'd need to see improvements in customer service, food quality, and atmosphere before I feel the same love again. I had 2 reservations for May 13,2026 for 9:45 & 10pm for my daughter's graduation dinner as this is her favorite place to eat!!! I got a call from the restaurant Manager Derek who wanted to inform me that they closed at 10pm and we would need to be there by 9:30pm. I advised him that the graduation was running a little behind, but we were up the street and would do our best to get there by 9:30pm and thanked him for the courtesy call. At that time graduation was already running behind & was supposed to be over by 8:30pm; but it's to be expected as this was a big moment for this kids!!! So as graduation ended, it was 9:17pm and we were 14 minutes away. We got there is was 9:40pm and as we got to the door the amazing security advised that they were closing as I'm standing there with nine hungry young adults. I advised that I spoke to Derek the manager and he advised he would just need to confirm with him really quick. I walked in with the security and he got Derek and I told him I was Tay and we had just spoke on the phone during the graduation. He asked was all of the party here and at the time the other car had made a wrong turn and was arriving in the next 5 minutes. So he told the amazing security guard to let us in and also the other car that had made the wrong turn. The restaurant had 1 family that was there and they were almost finished eating and now it was 18 people coming in at closing time and I understand people were to be getting off as they closed at 10pm!! When I say that Derek had them sit us as he nor the security didn't want to ruin moment! The cooks at both tables and the servers were absolutely superb. Dakota was our cook and the kids absolutely loved him and the food was perfect! The lady who was our server was amazing as well and everyone was super kind! The security even took pictures of us to cherish the moment!!! I had just flew in from LA so I had already had a very long day and was exhausted, but this experience and service must be recognized. I will always remember the kindness of everyone at this Benihana ! I'm so appreciative that they made this such a special experience!
