I NEVER give 1 star reviews, you can check my cred. Out of my current 223 reviews, only 2 of them are 1 star. That should just prove how truly bad this experience was. If it wasn't for my Benihana Club $30 birthday reward, I wouldn't have even stayed to endure the pain and suffering that was this visit. First off, they were extremely understaffed. With both servers and grill chefs. We had an 8:30 reservation, and were seated on time, but we then sat around for AN HOUR before our soup and salads even came out. It also took quite some time for our drinks to come out, then even longer to get refills. About an hour and 30 minutes into sitting by the hibachi, our Chef rolls out. He tells us "sorry for the wait, we're running out of this and the kitchen is slammed" They sent me out with some stuff to get started, but we're still waiting on items to get prepped". You're telling me that after an hour and half, you don't have the damn cart prepped for our grill?! The restaurant was maybe 60% full. There were still 4 grills that weren't sat, and the dining room of regular tables had hardly any patrons. As our 'Chef' started cooking, he realized there weren't enough shrimp for the table. He did a count, and told the runner he needed X amount more shrimp. Then he served us up, and realized he was wrong and he was still short. Runner had to grab MORE from the back for 3rd time. Then when he was grilling veggies, he didn't have the mushrooms that accompanied the steak. Finally got those, and he portioned those out. After he portioned them out, he realized he forgot to serve a customer her share. He over salted EVERYTHING. And I'm sorry Benihana, but charged $4.50 PER PERSON up charge for 'fried rice' is ridiculous. $9 extra on my bill for some rice with a sparce amount of veggies and egg with mediocre soy sauce. This was some of the worst 'fried rice' I've had. The chef was complaining, the servers were complaining, the food runners were complaining. It was almost comical at this point. By the time we got served our full meal, it was after 10:30, a full 2 hours since we sat down. Then our server didn't even offer up the dessert that was supposed to be included with our selections. At that point I was so annoyed that I didn't even care. I cannot recommend this to my worst enemy. Benihana Corporate, y'all need to either shut this place down, or bring in staff to do a complete revamp because it was RIDICULOUS. PS - forgot to mention the bathrooms were a damn MESS (pee on the floors, paper towels everywhere) & the heat was broken so it was cold as heck in the restaurant. read more

Wow where do I start. I will say the hostess was a doll and before leaving asked if we wanted a photo. I'm glad she brought it up because I was shocked there was no mention earlier as I felt the pic was a Benihana staple. Now to the dinner.... Well it was a hot mess. The cook was pleasant and funny but soup was out after like half hour of waiting and mind you we had ordered sushi and drinks prior. She kept saying sushi will be out soon. Well chef rolls cart out and rice is cooked and plated before salad or sushi came. Sushi well Alaskan roll was good but the spicy lotus was awful only because it was cold (this is a tempura fried roll). I know for a fact it likely sat for a half hour. We were running out of room with glasses plates etc. so steak being cooked well I will say mine was perfect medium rare as requested however another guest at our table well she got exact same thing I did and she ended up getting her filet last and I knew it was cooked well well done. She didn't speak up to chef but did to us once he was done. We got the shrimp appetizer at end of meal. Only veggies we got were zucchini and onions cooked separately. He did not tricks not cool things in the hibachi. Scallops were teeny tiny. And never once was dessert mentioned and it was to come with my meal for sure. I checked but I was over the entire experience. Very sad how awful this place has gotten. I'm surprised it hasn't shut down yet. But my total was 173 dollars and that was with my bday $30 gift. For what this restaurant is intended for, it does a good job with the quality of the show, and the taste of food. The food was pretty average but you got to see someone one cook in front of you. I had a blast there with my friends. Their cocktails were pretty nice and sweet for the one that we got. I got their land and sea. The shrimp was a bit salty but still pretty good for the place like Benihana. I did really love their fried rice. Furthermore, our chef was very friendly and fun. Stay away! Had my birthday dinner with friends there last night. It's been several years since we've been to this Benihana. The prices are outrages, of course, but that was expected. What wasn't expected is how run down this place is. It's like dining in a neglected dirty cheap restaurant in a basement of an old building. For the prices you pay, I'd expect this place to be scrubbed down and the service to be top notch! Everything is dirty there! The bathrooms are disgusting with the floor all sticky; the tables are sticky, there's old grease dripping from the hoods. It's just nasty! The service was very poor. Our hostess was rude and when he didn't seat us 40 min past our reservation time, and we asked, his response was very dismissive. No one offered us any drinks or anything while we waited. Other people waited as long past their reservation time. One of the appetizers was forgotten and only brought out when we asked about it; they didn't even take it off the bill, which is a common courtesy. I don't regret spending that much on my birthday dinner. I only regret giving this money to a business whose owners have zero regard to its customers. I've been going to this Benihana for years. It was so beautiful and lively when it first renovated. Now, not so much. The only time I really visit is when myself, or someone else, has a birthday certificate. My birthday was in December and I missed out on using mine because I wasn't in a rush to go. It's a $30 value, so that's significant that I can't even make it a point to use it. Anyway, a friend and I randomly decided to go for happy hour. That's probably the only other reason to go. Their happy hour menu is decent, though you can still rack up a decent bill if you aren't careful. Between the two of us we ordered the teriyaki wings, edamame, Philadelphia roll, fiery shrimp tempura, gyoza, and the chili shrimp roll. Everything was just satisfactory. Nothing stood out at all. I assume that the .50 cent difference between regular shrimp tempura and "fiery" was the generous drizzle of some sort of hot sauce. They could have kept that on the side because it could make the tempura soggy if left too long. What's happy hour without drinks? I had a seasonal drink, the Pacific Ocean Cooler. It was good, but not boozy enough for me. I really enjoyed my Bene-tini though. That's actually on the Happy Hour menu. Still not boozy, but had a good flavor. Service was decent, I don't usually have too big of a problem in the lounge area. Though I'm relatively sure out waitress forgot to put in our sushi orders at first. The delivery person from Door Dash entered into the system that my order had been delivered without actually delivering my order. That's when the nightmare began. I'll spare everyone the horrific details, however, after speaking to five people, I was blessed for Mia to be the final stop.After explaining the problem for the 5th time, Mia simply said; "I've got you" and she did. Mia worked diligently between challenging systems and non empathetic people but did not waiver in resolving the problem. Mia's customer service was exceptional. Thank you Mia! Benihana was once a classy fine dining experience, and my favorite place to go. Wanted to take my son here for his birthday lunch, he had never been. Wow, not fine dining anymore. The prices are. Theatatric's are banging spatulas together, hell, I can do that in my kitchen. Was not impressed at all. Sad to say, I will cross off Benihana my list for a nice dining experience. The place looked dirty and outdated, the help was rather crappy in their attitude, rushed to "get out" started setting table while we sat there for next customers. Hmmm!! I'm not sure where to start. Customer service is everything no matter what capacity it's delivered. I take the time to give good reviews just the same as complaints. With that being said I have been coming to the Beachwood location since I was 16 years old and they were called the Samurai which is 34 years. I visited this establishment on 3/29/23 and had the worst experience ever. The cook LV did an excellent job with only 6 months of experience;my server not quite sure the receipt says Erin. We were seated about 7:45. My grand children got antsy because it was past their bedtime. Long story short I initially asked for noodles instead of rice steak medium well which was over cooked while I left the table to inquire about why I only had steak, colossal shrimp, mushrooms and onions and no rice and was told by Ray that the server was supposed to bring the rice; I'm irritated now and said I don't want it. I got the bill and the server said that I didn't bring the rice because I left the noodles on which I didn't get. I am grateful for getting the $30 off for the Bday coupon. However, we had to ask for something to drink after being seated for 20 minutes, served soup another 15 minutes later, served salad after asking about it after the Chef started cooking. The soup and salad bowls were never removed from the table, none of us received green tea. Nor was I offered Ice cream or Sherbet. I then called the restaurant and asked for a manager and was put on hold after 11 minutes the call disconnected. I called 4 more times and Ray answered and when I expressed my concerns he said you should have said something while you were here so I could have taken care of the issue then and the only thing I can do at this point is offer you 20% off If you come back which I hope that you do. Uhh nah!! The last thing I want to say is clean up your bathrooms because one thing people dislike is to walk on sticky floors and to see something that doesn't belong. We come to Benihana's twice a year for my husband and my birthdays because of the $30 Chef's Table coupon. It's a great deal! We had never been to this Benihana's before as we are not from Ohio but we were here for work so thought we would give a new location a try. The best part of the entire meal was our cook Tot. Amazing! Of all the years we have been coming to all the locations we have visited, he was the funniest. Great sense of humor and didn't act like he hated to be there, which unfortunately we have had many times before. The food was cooked great! I could the usual Land and Sea which is filet mignon and scallops and my husband got the Trip which is filet mignon, chicken, and colossal shrimp. Everything was great! Make sure to get the chicken fried rice. It's amazing! My single complaint is that the portion sizes were much smaller than the Benihana's we go to in California and the prices were more expensive. That was quite disappointing since this is such an expensive dinner. Overall great food and service! read more

This was the first time I'd been to a Benihana, so I wasn't sure what to expect. We were seated right away with no reservation next to a nice family. We waited at that table a looooong time. The waitress barely came to check on us, but she seemed distracted with other things. We noticed there were only 2 chefs working the hibachi tables, and they looked exhausted. In fact, the entire staff looked stressed and tired. I think they were extremely understaffed and kept taking in reservations and additional seatings without giving any of their skeleton crew breaks. That said, our chef was nice, and the food was good. But waiting an hour for a chef to be done with one table to be able to prep the food in the back and then come entertain us in an exhausted state was not a nice dining experience. We left with an expensive bill for something that felt terrible and icky because of the mistreated staff. Don't take in so many customers if your staff is too small! Tell customers how long the wait will be so you're not forcing the chefs to push through all day long with no breaks! Treat your people better, and your customers will notice a happy crew and have a good time. read more

The customer service here is horrible. We sat at the bar where they have one employee working which was a older guy who is the bartender. We literally sat at the bar stools at the bar. He didn't not take our order nor give us water. We figured we should sit in the bar are at a table And maybe we would Get served. We literally sat in this restaurant for 45 min and didn't get our order taken at all! Not even a water, nor did he acknowledge our presence so of course we don't even have a menu. I don't recommend this place AF AT ALL. WE WALKED OUT WITHOUT A THING, NO FOOD, NO "ONE MINUTE , ILL BE RIGHT WITH YOU" nothing ! Like many others Benihana poor time management with reservations made us never want to come back. We were celebrating my daughters birthday, reservation for 6 at 6:30. We were seated finally at 7:45 - yet I had to ask about how long, because the lady at the front never gave us any information. Once we sat down, it was 8 before a server came over to get our drink orders.... 8:45 before the chef came out. 9:45, we opted to take our food to go and couldn't get dessert or even serve the cake I brought. So disappointed. Over 3 1/2 hours there - poor service, poor communication. Horrible....we went on new years eve as a treat for kids and witnessed every table around us as well as us being seated 2 hours past reservations Once seated their is no server and no cooks. Our reservations with kids is at 8:45 and as of 10:19 have still not even got water. The prices are high but they are not offering any extras for the inconvenience but instead are still accepting reservations on open table. This is the EXACT email I sent to Management at cleveland@benihana.com with NO RESPONSE: Tonight's dining experience has been the worst in all of the years I have been coming to Benihana's.  I am reluctant to even get the fried rice to-go that I get in between my dine-in visits. The beginning of this poor experience was the debris I discovered attached to the inside of drink.  How can you just replace the drink without adjusting the cost?  It was disgusting!   The experience continued throughout the dinner service when we had to continually ask for items that is customary to offer:  forks...the noodles we ordered...the steamed rice we ordered...extra garlic butter...green tea (which was only available in a kids plastic cup at the end)...yum yum sauce (that had a better consistency than water)...ice cream...an accurate bill, etc.   I work in customer service and therefore choose come to Benihana for an elevated customer service experience.  Your Opentable rating is reflective of that as well.  That, unfortunately, was the furthest thing from what happened tonight. Please advise us on how this can be corrected for a future visit. read more

I went to the restaurant today to celebrate my birthday. We arrived 5 minutes past our reservation time and the manager Robiea? S. (Not sure of the correct spelling) was in charge, he was very rude, disrespectful and had very POOR customer service . He said the company's policy is that if you're 5 minutes late (which sounded ridiculous), you have to go on a waiting list. We asked him if that policy was on the website and he said no. We were told that a party was coming in at 5:45 and one at 6:00, so therefore we couldn't be seated yet. We waited until after six o'clock and no one showed up. We asked him if we could be seated and he kept making up illogical excuses as to why we had to wait. I looked around and only 2 hibachi tables were filled. I don't know why he kept lying to us, but eventually we got seated. There was another party that came in after us and evidently he treated them the same way he treated us because they were very upset and promptly left. He is obviously turning down/losing a lot of money for the restaurant. The floor was dirty and our table was dirty. Benihana's great service has gone down the drain. Fortunately, we had a nice waitress and excellent cook, so that sorta saved the day. read more

Sad that they earned a 1 star rating for customer service without even eating their food. Last time I was here was 36 years ago for prom. It was were you took your lovely date to impress. The story: I was given a $100 Benihana's gift card from a student's family. I went online to order Steak and Chicken for 4. I was unable to complete the purchase so I called the establishment. I asked to order for a curbside delivery and tried paying with the gift card and was told they were unable to complete the transaction as I would have to be in person to do this. Well, here we are in the middle of a pandemic and they would not honor their gift card, so I asked to speak the manager. He said they were not able to complete the transaction even though the card had numbers as a credit card and asked for me to give them my real credit card first. Of course I was not doing this over the phone for security reasons. The manager asked that I can pay with the gift card in person, and of course I declined as it would also create more contact with the store employees as I was trying to avoid COVID19. I offered some feedback to the manager and mentioned how I can order food from any other establishment without a credit card and that they trusted their customers enough to pay when they arrive ( I was prepared to forfeit the balance on the card just -$18- so I did not have to meet with the store clerk). The manger said, "how can you tell me what to do" and hung up. Click. Once I spend the full amount on this card, it will be much longer than 36 years that I return. Benihana has excellent food and service! I've dined at Benihana twice and both times, the food and service were exceptional! The hibachi chef's antics were really entertaining and funny. The only drawback was the price. They were two of the most expensive meals I've ever eaten. I'd rather eat at Tomo because it costs about 1/3 the price. While dining here, we sat next to a professional skateboarder, Bucky Lasek, and his entourage so that was cool. Overall, I guess it's a place that you have to try, but once you had it you can find sushi or hibachi elsewhere for a fraction of the cost. The decor is dated. I highly recommend coming here for happy hour... We got there right at 5 and we were the only people in the lounge area which usually means good service...I was right. Our server was excellent! The plum wine is delicious and only $5 a glass. We decided to order a plethora of items and I think we picked all the right ones. Teriyaki wings...perfectly crisp and just the right amount of spice. The spicy tuna roll was just okay, it wasn't bad by any means but it was just your typical spicy tuna roll. Pan-Fried Beef Gyoza Dumplings...very good! Now for the drum roll please......CHILI SHRIMP ROLL!!!!! (see picture) Where do I begin, this is a combination of everything delicious and looks pretty too. It is a somewhat crunchy hand roll on the bottom with rice and crab then a comes a crab and spicy mayo concoction, on top of that is a piece of shrimp tempura...that's not all! The icing on the cake is the jalapeño on top with a dollop of Sriracha. Needless to say, we ended up ordering a second chili shrimp roll, it was THAT good. For all of this delicousness our bill was $28. Everything was under $6. You just can't beat it! read more
