HOWEVER, I was completely shocked when I arrived the restaurant....none of the people including stuffs were properly wearing the mask, yes, they had a mask on but not fully covered the month or noise, and when they were talking, they pulled off the mask. Here's the fun part, after my food was picked up and completed the transaction, 12 hours later, they charged me on my card for 20% more on the item that was showing as free item when I made the payment. Where to begin,waited almost 20min for our reservation to be called and that was when they opened for dinner at 5pm,the atmosphere is old and worn like an old wedding hall. This was my first experience with Benihana's but most likely my last, the service okay the food was tasty but extremely overpriced for what you actually get in my opinion. Loved: how they made extra effort to keep my vegetarian food meat-free Disliked: Drink prices. Ridiculous. We went on a Wednesday at 5pm and there was no happy hour...a real shame. Port of call, on the other side of the block, offers an awesome happy hour. Hated: The huge slab of butter added to each grilled component. It took it from healthy veggies to artery clogging. The food was okay. I had the tofu. It said it came with a tofu appetizer as well, but it did not. The salad dressing was mediocre, at best, very watery and gingery. I did get miso brought to me because I'm a vegetarian instead of the meat broth. Yumm. The tofu was good but rubbery from staying on the grill so long. Spicy. Needed it to be cut into smaller pieces - chop sticks can't cut through rubber, so I looked and felt silly stuffing huge, unbreakable pieces of tofu into my mouth. I think there is a general idea of what you are going to experience at a Hibachi restaurant, and what Benihana delivered was far short of that. When you are paying $40 per person for dinner and drinks, you would think the dinner would be memorable. The seafood dishes were prepared first, leaving those who ordered that will a plate of either scallops or shrimp and nothing to go with it. These expensive proteins got cold, as we waited for rice and vegetables. On top of that, the vegetables came out last, which was disappointing. Save your money, go somewhere else. read more

Terrible customer service. There was no attendant at the door had to go retrieve one after standing there for about 5 minutes. Even though we made a reservation we still had to wait another hour! The waitress has a bad attitude and was rude! Had to get the manager to tend to us, and he gave us a free round of drinks for our troubles. The chef messed up on all his tricks. Went here last night with some friends from out of town. Drinks were fine, service wasn't bad but the dishes were pretty underwhelming. Ordered the hibachi tuna steak that, on the menu, said it was seared but rare (to medium rare) but the tuna steak I received was cooked the entire way through (kind of a cardinal sin to do that to ahi). My boyfriend order a medium rare steak with his hibachi dish and it was, again, cooked nearly well done. Left feeling disappointed and that we didn't get our monies worth by any means. read more

Please note: one star is being generous. A complete disappointment all around. To start, we had reservations at 6:30 for 4 guests. We walked in and were told to sit at an open table in the empty dining room downstairs until we were called. This was strange, there were about 6 other groups also waiting, there were confused looks all around. At 6:45 we finally got called to go upstairs. We were seated at a hibachi table that was not large enough for our group, and the other group that sat with us; two of us ended up on the side of a table with absolutely no room to eat! My husband had to pull his chair back from the table and eat over his lap to provide more room. At the beginning we were asked if anyone was celebrating anything, I let them know it was my friend's birthday the day prior, so we were celebrating. You think they would've acknowledged it somehow since they asked, nope. Didn't sing, didn't bring a dessert, didn't even say a simple "happy birthday". It gets worse...the waiter (if you can call him that) took drink orders, and when he arrived back with the sodas for the table they were all watered down and flat. Mind you, this was 3 different types of soda too. The chef was OK, although by the time our meat was cooked and served, our vegetables that had been sitting on our plate for 10 minutes were ice cold. Chef then started cleaning up the griddle and packing up his stuff, when I had to ask where our white rice was. Nobody at the table got rice! By the time the roce was brought out the entire meal was cold. And the taste, flavorless! Throughout the entire dining experience we had to track down our waiter for drink refills, the bill, and for him to take our payment. I loved this place. The food was fantastic. And the staff was friendly. We sat at a normal table and we had the chef that was preparing our meals also bring them out for us. I commend this locations for their hardworking, dedicated staff. We started our meal with a nigiri roll and a philly roll and then ordered the filet mignon with a side of chicken fried rice for my entree. And of course it was to die for! read more

One of the worst quality meals I've eaten in Milwaukee but at the higher end of the price scale, all the seafood was poor quality as was the steak the service was adequate. I enjoyed the onion volcano was probably the best thing about this meal. The steak wasn't even cooked how we requested and when asked if we wanted white of fried rice the waitress forgot to mention that it was an extra $8.00 for fried. They add gratitudes automatically of 18% even for two people I will not be back and would not recommend this place to anyone read more

Great hibachi restaurant! Ordered the chateaubriand and scallops with no shrimp extra veggies and the plain white rice. I think it was sushi rice but it was perfect. Their yum yum sauce reminds me of where I used to go as a little kid on every birthday back in Florida where I grew up and I basically drowned my food in it even though it was tasty all on its own. I recommend registering your birthday for the $30 coupon and going during your birthday month!! read more

Went to Benihana's during downtown dining week. My boyfriend had the hibachi and I ordered sushi. The show was wonderful and my sushi was beyond compare. I will definitely be returning shortly. 1. The greasy smell of the place means that they don't keep it clean and don't run an Ionizer at night. 2. The chef had a hissy fit when I asked for some sesame seeds for my sushi. I received a tiny amount that didn't even cover the bottom of a sauce cup. The server said the chef would charge me if I wanted any more. At these menu prices? Really? 3. Had reservations for 8pm, didn't get seated until 8:40pm. Then waited another 40min for our cook. Looks like they only had 4 cooks and 4 servers for the dozen plus or so full hibachi tables. The place seems very disorganized compared to other Benihanas I've been to (Anahiem, Las Vegas). I would have to say this is the worst one I've been to. The food was really good and up to the normal Benihana standard I'm used to but the service was extremely slow. It's not like they forgot things, it's more that it was so slow I was looking on open table for other places. The building could stand to be remodeled and updated too. I think they need to close this location remodel both the building and the management / service. The Benihana franchise should be ashamed of this location for its service. Wow. Pretty disappointed in this Benihana. The restaurant is old and tired with no ambiance. It's like eating dinner in a Barnes and Noble with hibachi grills instead of books. The staff isn't particularly friendly. The chef didn't even try and smile as he muttered through his hibachi jokes that he had done at least a 1000 times. It's amazing that Benihana doesn't refresh the routine after 20 years. Usually it's entertaining but hard to enjoy when the chef never looks up or smiles. Food was fine. Not great - not bad. We had a reservation for a birthday dinner for 16 people at 8pm. We had called to reserve it the day before and had to give a credit card number to hold the reservation. Did not get seated until 9 pm. At the end of dinner the waitress mixed up my tab with someone else's which was $20 more than mine. I was then told that my debit card had been declined which was unrealistic because I had plenty of cash to cover the purchase. I could see the charges listed on my account online, but they continued to assure me I had been declined. I did not want to wait and argue so a friend covered my check for me. This was 4 days ago and today the charges that supposedly got declined posted to my account and caused two overdraft fees. I have had to file a claim with my bank which could take up to ten days to be refunded and I also need to pay my friend back who purchased the dinner for me. Absolutely ridiculous and too much work to go through when I was assured I had not been charged and was not listened to when I showed them that I had been charged. Would not recommend because of terrible customer service. read more

Pros: the food was great tasting, as usual. We got seated 25 minutes before our reservation. They cooked the steak rare. The chef was entertaining. All great but there were some serious disappointments cons: ok I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, it was Valentine's Day, but the place was completely disorganized from the hostess to the server. The restaurant must have been 55 degrees and that's with a stove top right in front of us. We must have waited 30 minutes for the chef after we placed our order. I saw my drink I ordered from a random employee who asked if we needed more drinks, not our server (so not her fault), at the bar top for 20 minutes before I had to go get it myself. Random thought: I think they need to prepare the food in a different order. The chef cooked out rice first, which is fine but by the time we got the meat, the rice was cold and the lobster was cooked before the veggies, which doesn't make sense, because again, it was cold if you waited for the rest and finally why do the onions get cooked last? I don't get it? All in all, we will go back on a non-holiday for hopefully a slightly better experience! read more

As a newly employed college graduate, I'm on a semi-limited budget, especially when it comes to food. So when I received a free $30 voucher, me and my friend went there for dinner. I've never had teppanyaki in my life and was expecting something entertaining. There are lots of issues when it comes to this Benihanas. Tackiness - The Fake Samurai costume, the entire staff not even having one Asian employee, a grungy elevator to transport you to your car (I guess its suppose to make you feel at a "special" place). This whole place felt like a "tourist trap" / "Faux ethnic food" much like Panda Express. The Show- Very boring. I was expecting much more based off what I've seen on TV throughout my life. I know your chef is not going to chop your food and shoot it your mouth, but this guy couldn't do the most basic moves. At one point I felt sorry for him. They must have put in the B-lister for our group since it was a slow night. He also was very quiet, not interacting at all with group. Benihana's is about the show and food, and this show was uneventful and boring. The Food- The Steak was nothing special, in fact I could probably go to Walmart (yes Walmart) and cook a better steak. It tasted real bland, and I had to use their dipping sauce to add some flavor. The chicken rice was good, but if I had to really pay $3.50 for it, I would have been outraged. I could personally whip out something like that within 30 minutes. Its really nothing special. Service- The waitresses had a slight frown on their face, or trying their best to hide it. It all seemed very unnatural. The manager was very aggressive, and although was polite enough to all the guests, I could imagine her yelling at the waitresses from behind. My friend seemed satisfied by the sushi, but it was "nothing great". Overall, with the birthday coupon the bill for both of us was $20 before tip. So I guess for $10 a piece, the dinner was alright. I would give them 4 stars, since it even included a free birthday dessert. However, I am rating this as a one star since if I paid full price, I'd be outright angry. Avoid this place and go somewhere else to spend your money. The one thing that always surprises me about this place is its ability to stay open for at least 13+ years in the same location despite the mediocre reviews. I went here earlier this week with my coworkers because we wanted real hibachi. We walked in and were ushered in to the second floor where it seems like they primarily do dinner. I wish I could give the waitstaff 5 stars because our hostess was responsive and always kept our glasses full as well as gave us free sundae's because we were celebrating a few milestones. I felt bad for her because she seemed a bit miserable at her job, but did a great job nonetheless. The hibachi chef was a nice guy but the fake chicken and beating heart schtick gets a little old, but I know they have to follow procedure. The food was pretty tasty and I feel like we got our money's worth. However, I can't help but think it's just kind of sad and tired in there, they seriously need some sort of facelift. I'm not sure how busy it gets on the weekends but it's just a dark depressing mood on the inside...dark and dank. My suggestion to the owner would be to invest just a bit of money into making this place have a bit more ambience, could make a difference. read more

I am beyond disappointed in this location. First, I did not even get to eat the lunch because of the foolery that took place. I took my boyfriend here on his birthday for lunch. We walk in at 1:10pm and were greeted and seated pretty fast. I asked to be seated by a grill for the hibachi. They said upstairs was closed and the people at the grill were paying now. It would only be a couple minutes. LIE # 1 It took almost 10 minutes for our waitress to make her way over and ask what we wanted to drink. I explained that we were waiting for seats by the grill and were on a time crunch for lunch break. She said we would be seated in five minutes (LIE # 2) and she'd turn on the grill to get it ready. She took our drink order in the meantime. Cool. Ten minutes later. She must have squeezed the lemons herself for this lemonade that finally made its way out. Still no seat by the grill. Five more minutes and we arrive at the grill. We quickly place order so they could prep the meat and get going. TWENTY MINUTES LATER we are sipping water and eating wilted salad. No one bothered to update us, check on us, nothing. Mind you, there are multiple to go orders going out and people who sat after us receiving food. I approach our waitress and she says "the chef is on his way now". I couldn't believe it. We would most definitely be late back to work and the blatant disrespect was unbearable. She spoke with her manager and he charged me for the drink and two salads. I refused to pay and was appalled that he could not offer any compensation or at least some customer service. He took five dollars off the bill. I paid it and left to avoid wasting anymore of my time but I'll never return. The place looks dingy and run down anyways. This restaurant has the worst hostess/manager you have ever come across. My co-workers and I call her the dragon lady because she is such a rude woman. Firstly, the food is acceptable. Not delicious or amazing. And frankly, it's quite overpriced, especially the lunch portions which run about $11. We eat there often enough that we have experienced a multitude of issues that are bothersome but namely: I once ordered "extra mushrooms" with my lunch special (which was teriyaki chicken and steak with rice and veggies) and the charge was $3.50. I kid you not. For the equivalent of 3 medium mushrooms, sliced and sautéed. But whatever. Last time we were there, dragon lady encouraged us to sign up for the website because we would get special emailed to us. My friend received such an email on her birthday and it was a nice one! $30 gift certificate! We thought, wow, what a nice incentive! Well, when we arrived, we were, as usual, seated at "our" table (we eat there so often that she leads us to the same table every time as if it is "ours") and we show her the gift certificate. She then makes a HUGE 10 minute deal of comparing the certificate birth date to my friend's driver's license and at one point argues that the dates do not match. They of course did match and we went from there. She next makes a loud point of showing us that the certificate will not cover MY lunch, only HER lunch and I will "have to pay separate!" Seriously? It's $30 and we always buy each other's lunches every time we eat out. Oh no! You cannot use this to cover friend's lunch! So then, long story short, not only do I pay for my own (which is fine) but I also am paying the tax for the entire meal because that is also NOT INCLUDED! In the certificate. When I asked her about my lunch costing $9.75 and hers being charged $14.95 (for the EXACT same lunch menu item) she again loudly argued that it was covered by the certificate and was a different "weight" of food. Just ridiculous. The straw was, after informing her that I was finished arguing with her and listening to her nonsensical justifications for this thing or another, she continued to bark at us about the 'rules' and at one point went so far as to say "certificate does not cover alcohol!" Incidentally, my friend had an ice tea and I drank a glass of water. Ugh. In any event, it's overpriced, the food is merely okay and this woman is unbelievably rude, obnoxious and we will not only not ever be going back (they just lost our repeat business) but we also made a point of passing this information around to the firm we work in where our motto is "CUSTOMER SERVICE IS OUR TOP PRIORITY." So bummed & disappointed in our dinner!! My sister nor I have ever been to a Benihana and honestly not sure we will ever again. We came in and the place looked like it hasn't been remodeled since 1990. The hostess was nice & the sushi chef who brought us our sushi was nice. But our waitress, she couldn't get our order right. She brought our shrimp tempura to a different table after we had been there 15 minutes and the other table barely 5. The sushi chef brought us our sushi. We asked the waitress about our shrimp tempura and she yelled across the dinner area, "Oh I brought it to the other table! Oh well we will make a new one." Our sushi was at the best mediocre. Maybe it's because I love sushi and have had a variety. The menu has very basic sushi, thought they would have specialty sushi with it being Benihana. I ordered the crunchy shrimp roll and it was okay. I also ordered the rainbow roll and only had one piece. It was dry and couldn't finish it. My sister ordered the Alaskan roll and spider roll and only had a few pieces of each. We were so disappointed. We have both only heard good things about Benihana. The food is pretty good, somewhat pricey. Hibachi is never really all that impressive, they always do the same tricks, but nonetheless fun in a large group. If you get the trio: chicken, shrimp, steak, you will get the meat sweats. It is a lot to eat especially once you add in the soup, salad, ice cream etc., never mind sushi rolls and drinks. Everything tasted great minus the house salad which had some weird chilled ginger dressing on it.
