We just had a delicious Christmas meal at Benjamin's; we were a party of 4 and the place was packed. I've never seen the restaurant so busy. The holiday menu was perfect- the egg nog was delish (alcoholic & nonalcoholic versions were available) , we had lobster bisque, winter salad, grilled Norwegian salmon, the T-bone steak, lamb chops all paired with creamless creamed spinach, mashed potatoes, lobster Mac & cheese. We brought home dessert Which was NY Cheesecake, Chocolate Mouse Cake & Carrot Cake. The service was good not as efficient but it was a busy night. I am updating the review & downgrading the score because of the following: two of the women from our party, went to the ladies room at the end of our meal, both were from out of town and both reported that the bathrooms were and "disgusting.". Very disappointed, premium, top of the line steak cut on an angle so one side well done other side rare. Fish way over done, maybe precooked and covered with table butter to make it look good. Filet Mignon was ok. Six asparagus considered a side for 3 people, and many other disappointments, especially for self proclaimed First Class Restaurant. So many tables in the main dining room it was hard to get to our table without having people move their chairs. Not at all like their recent TV ad on MSG. Extremely loud. The valet parking attendant brought my car around and parked it in back of an abandoned car and brought another car out that went in back of me and blocked me in. Went here this past yesterday for dinner with my family and it's a really good place to eat. . Great steak and the waiters are very knowledgeable. Decor was very upbeat and the hostess was very professional and pleasant. This food was good but not great as I expected. The wait for our food after we ordered was way too long and the king crab legs we ordered for the table was almost cold when we got it which definitely affected the experience. Our waiter was pretty cool and somethings clearly was out of his control. Otherwise, The place was bustling with diners and ppl were happily celebrating birthdays which is always good to see. I dined at Benjamin Steakhouse in White Plains in May and for a table of four individuals, we spent approx $600. I split the bill with another couple and on my half of the bill, I tipped 18.5% on the pre-tax amount of the bill, which I rounded off to the nearest $10 interval for simplicity. When I looked at my credit card bill that month, Benjamin Steakhouse charged me a higher number that was totally, entirely fictitious. On what I think is already a reasonable tip, they inflated the amount of the tip by an additional $10.74 to $60.02. This was clearly a deliberate and purposeful act of inflation on their part to increase the tip amount because their higher tip # bears no relation to any pre-tax, post-tax, subtotal, tip, or my written all-in total number. My total number had no cents and was rounded off and yet their inflated number implies both a higher dollar amount and some included cents, which bears no relation to any number or to any semblance of what I could have possibly written, which is also very clearly articulated on the receipt. Even during the credit card dispute, they show my written tip on the receipt, which validates my precise math and clearly shows they charged me a higher and fictitious amount, and yet I still need to continue onward with the dispute when the text is very clear. Very dishonest business and either there was a bad staff member trying to inflate their tips at the diners' expense or there is a systematic process in place at Benjamin Steakhouse White Plains to boost tips for all unsuspecting patrons. read more

I don't understand any bad reviews for this place. Obviously no restaurant can be 100%, 100% of the time. Humans make errors and I am sure some peoples individual experience's was subpar. But I feel in this day of gimmicks and trends that most of the bad reviews are from people that are clueless, classless and completely naive to what a real steakhouse is. This is a top notch steakhouse. The only argument to have is which steakhouse you think is better. Some will say Peter Luger. Even though the steaks here come from Peter Lugers you have die-hards. Some would say Franks on Long Island. I personally like Uncle Jacks on the Westside. But regardless of personal taste, preference and opinions this is a 5 star steak house with 5 star service. So ignore the pettiness of the negative reviews. No fancy suit or attire necessary but put on your favorite shirt(even if it's a Knicks jersey) valet your car and enjoy a great steak. Disappointing is the best way to sum up this visit. Unfortunately the side dishes were better than the main meal ... the petit filet was not seared, and while tasty, had very little seasoning. The bone in rib eye was just short of terrible... first one came was overcooked and tough. While I never send anything back at $78 for this steak I had little choice... second one was undercooked and tasteless. The management took off the price of the steak and apologized but when a steak house can't cook a steak you need to wonder why it is in business. Waitstaff was ok at best and while being apologetic was not very attentive. Overall the meal was overpriced and certainly under par. I would hesitate before going back or recommending this place. Extremely disappointing meal we had last night at Benjamin's Steakhouse. Between the service to the food was just a grueling experience. Heard so many good reviews between friends, family and WABC radio over the years. I have attending many steakhouses over the years and Benjamin's was on my list to do. My wife and I for our 20th anniversary made reservations for dinner at Benjamin's which we deeply regret now. The restuarant and managers knew it was our anniversary and you would think make it a special night for us. List below are the pros and cons of our experience. PRO's The decor of the Restuarant is beautiful. The managers were accommodating with taking back our meals (steaks) three times and providing us with deserts and drinks on the house after this horrible experience we encountered. Desert was delicious the chocolate molting cake was tasty and the cheesecake was very good. CON's Service on the other hand was awful our server just dropped the ball with us and not like he was overwhelmed he only had two other tables. We noticed the other servers were all on top of there tables and customers. He never filed our waters, he forgot our drinks and he brought us our food which was ice cold and sub par. He never checked up on us or even followed through to do the right thing. The two managers stepped up to make things right and still the kitchen messed up our orders. At the end this was the worst services I have experienced in a steakhouse and I have been to many steakhouses over the years. Food is just basic they are not at the caliber of a NYC steakhouse and with those prices you should have top quality food and service. They should be a shamed of themselves. You can get the same quality steak at the local diner or Restuarant a few miles away at half the price. They do not know how to Pittsburgh char a steak which they attempted three times and failed. Also to top it off our meals came out cold. The salad dressing was watered down and our sides were nothing to rave home about. The mushroom side was something you can get out of a can and they would taste the same and the loaded baked potato was not appealing. Bottom line there are many other steakhouses in Westchester (Flames, Hudson Valley Steakhouse, Macelleria Italian Steakhouse and Morton) which are 100 times better with the service and food. My conclusion is would never recommend Benjamin's to anyone based upon our experience. Between the prices and quality of food they should not consider themselves a premier steakhouse. There was no excuse for poor service and poor quality control of our food especially at those prices and to top it off they were not even that busy. Aside from Morton's Steakhouse in Downtown White Plains, Benjamin's (closer to Hartsdale on route 100A) biggest draw is also- Steak. We've either done a number of regular or Restaurant Week Dinners here and on each occasion, service has always been top-grade. Benjamin's claim to fame came after another Steakhouse restaurant shut its doors a while back and made way for its current owners. Tables are dressed in white cloth but the eye-catcher here though- is their wood design. No.... not circa 1975 wood panels- but a presentable and masculine style. Let me put it this way- design is like on steroids! Keep in mind- this is obviously a Steak house and from the look of their online menu, Benjamin's is putting a nice emphasis on Seafood. It's a welcome change in their menu and a lot has changed since I was last here. Now noticing, more Seafood options that weren't offered such as Sea Bass and Yellowfin Tuna- are on their menu. Hubby has always had a very good steak here and prepped to his liking. His only request has always been for the kitchen staff to bring out his steak- bone-in and not sliced. Benjamin's has never disappointed. My most recent visit was after Easter Sunday service. Although it was packed, the staff did not miss a beat. They remained attentive and were able to accommodate every ask that my family and friends had, including multiple orders of their cranberry bread. I stuck to a classic Ribeye, served medium rare with sides of garlic mushrooms, Mac n cheese, and creamed spinach. This was great after the Lobster Bisque that I would have swam in had they let me. The outside seating is my mothers favorite place to sit and for good reason as it offered great natural light and a garden feel. Our visit was capped with a velvety piece of New York cheesecake. It was such a nice night that we decided to eat outside and I was quickly impressed by how they scrambled to get us a table. That is dedication to the customers. We asked for medium-rare and it came out basically rare. We were ok with that. Every place somewhat has their own idea of doneness. It was pretty good. A solid step above Mortons but definitely not on Old Homestead level or other Manhattan level steakhouses by far. The sides were serviceable but a bit on the bland side. Both the homefries and mashed potatoes were meh. Interestingly, the best thing was the sautéd onions side. Sunday evening May 18th Graduation Dinner, the first time at Benjamin's. Seven steaks ordered at my table four weren't cooked as ordered. My ribeye was returned, the waiter, the service was nothing to boast about, had to have the manager confirm my complaint and inspect the steak at my table.I received a replacement ribeye, half cooked medium rare and the other half rare; in addition, this steak was inundated with globs of fat and tendon (unfortunately for me the chef probably had a bad day). About 40% of the replacement steak was eatable, that's when I had enough of this $82.00 garbage and complained once again. The manager did absolutely nothing to compensate me for this shocking service. This was bad business decision by the manager and the waiter received a minimal tip based on a $1000.00 bill. I actually should have left no tip at all. I'm 78 years and frequented multiple steak restaurants in my lifetime. This was the worst steak I ever had and will never return to this overrated restaurant again. Excellent service and excellent food! Took my parents here on Christmas Day for lunch. They don't require you to order the Christmas dinner on Christmas. The NYC location doesn't give you that option which was the deciding factor of whether I go to their Manhattan midtown location (on 41st St. between Park & Madison Ave.) or go to their Westchester location (610 Hartsdale Rd, White Plains, NY). I made a reservation by phone and the hostess was helpful over the phone and answered any questions I had. We had a 12pm lunch reservation on Christmas. The restaurant filled up quick and the waiters never rushed us. A bar when you first walk in so you can wait with a drink at the bar if there's a wait. There are a few different dining areas. When you face the bar as you walk in to the restaurant there's a dining area where you can hold private events. That area has wall dividers for such events. The right of the bar is the entrance to the main dining room. They have a beautiful wooden fireplace, spacious tables, and comfortable seats. The restaurant has a warm and inviting feel. The food was all well prepared and delicious. Although we enjoyed everything, my favorite dishes were the Canadian bacon, mushroom, and porterhouse steak! The lobster bisque soup had a clean and not too heavy taste. Canadian bacon is a must. Perfectly toasted on the edges and soft bite in the center. The porterhouse too had a nice crisp exterior and soft melt in your mouth steak. They have valet parking. A good place to come with family. Ordered: little neck clams on the half shell, lobster bisque, thick cut Canadian bacon, creamed spinach, mushroom, porterhouse steak for two, 3 scoops of sorbet, bottle of champagne, and a half carafe of red wine. Wanted to take my spouse out for our wedding anniversary; he loves steak and I wanted to treat him! Asked around my friends and they recommended Benjamin's. It was 730 on a Thursday evening and the place was full! Families and friends in larger groups, business associates at tables of four and plenty of couples - every age represented! Outstanding service: wish I knew our waiter's name: he was a true professional. We had cocktails (excellent martini for me) and split a Caesar salad as we knew this was going to be a filling meal! The rolls, butter, and olive oil dip were excellent quality and the table setting had all the correct silverware (rare these days) Linens were thick and high quality and the room is very attractive. The table side presentation of a medium rare porterhouse was very good- they cut and resear the steak along the edges of the platter and then serve from the filet and the strip and top with the juices (which are tempered with butter). We also had the mushrooms and whipped potatoes (served table side as well) We cook a lot at home and I was extremely happy with everything from this kitchen; and I am picky! The strip was actually tastier than the loin but both were excellent and better than I can do in a home kitchen! And so much more relaxing especially with the attentive service! We polished off the side dishes and had leftover porterhouse to bring home. Excellent NY cheesecake with shlag and good coffee and espresso! Next time I will come on a night when we don't have work the next day; looking forward to ordering the recommended Cabernet and an after dinner drink next time! They handled our party of 16 without a problem. Seafood appetizers like jumbo shrimp and raw oysters with a variety of dipping sauces came out continuously from the kitchen. They never ran out. Slab bacon cut into small squares with different dipping sauces never ran short. And most of my group are serious eaters. The onion soup was tasty, but a bit salty in my opinion. Muenster cheese topping. Reasonably sized bowl. The rack of lamb was a relatively small portion, four lollipop pieces perfectly cooked, rare in the middle like I ordered it. Spicy onion rings and french fries and home fries and broccoli came on the side in family style. My colleagues had filet mignon which was cooked as well done or rare as they ordered it, ribeyes and porterhouse all beautifully prepared. They set a beautiful table, and never let the water glasses or wine glasses or coffee cups go dry. Their steak knives bear their own name, they have a full tang and are up to the task of cutting through all of their meat offerings. The forks were a bit light duty, but I had no trouble devouring my order. Their water was heavily chlorinated and tasted like it came straight from the YMCA pool. That was very distracting and very annoying. Other than that, everything was more than satisfactory. They have lots of nooks and crannies in this spacious fine dining restaurant so we had our own private space. Wine bottles of every variety line the walls. You can tell it's a family owned restaurant by the love they put into making your meal and making you feel like family. The wait staff are so attentive as well as the host and bartenders. Even though I'm not a huge red meat eater, I absolutely love this restaurant! The service is impeccable -- the staff are so attentive and do a great job remembering the details of your order. I usually start out with the lobster bisque, which is creamy and full of flavor and by the end I wish I could lick the bowl clean. The rib-eye steak is perfect: it's tender, charred, cooked exactly the way you specify, melts in your mouth, and the portion is huge - I always take home leftovers for lunch the next day. The steak fries are so yummy, as well as the broccoli, home fries, onion rings, and spinach sides. Definitely my first and last time at this location. I ordered salmon because I couldn't chew steak due to a dental procedure earlier in the day. The salmon was a small piece and was as dry as the Sahara Desert and barely edible. Costco has much better salmon in the package. My wife's sea bass didn't look much better. Very poor presentation for both the salmon and sea bass. It was just plopped on the plate. The salad was very good and the shrimp and oysters were fine. The sides were good although they forgot our mushrooms, which was more than okay. I had a chicken tender from my nephew which was good. For dessert there was a hair in the tiramisu.
