This location is much nicer and seems to be bigger than the one near Sac State and off of Fair Oaks. The seating - I was not a fan of the location of our table. It seemed like they just tried to fit as many tables as possible because we were seated side by side to 3 other parties with a pole in the middle so it was really difficult for the server to get through and there were times where there were trays over our heads and we had to duck. Not cool. The service - I can't remember his name but he was an older gentleman with facial hair. Lol, considering they were super busy he was very nice and helpful. Any time we asked for something he'd bring it over as soon as he could. He also snuck in our happy hour orders before happy hour official started so obviously that was very appreciated! The drinks - they have lots of drinks listed on happy hour and I tried the angry bomb which was an angry orchard beer with Sake. I really enjoyed it, more than the traditional sake bomb. We also had sake bombs since they were only $1! But they limit you to 4 a person, LAME. They were served in plastic side cups though which I thought was weird, cheap and tacky for a restaurant but whatever. The food - big portions with delicious fish! Every single roll came out at the same time and they were huge! Atleast 7-10 pieces per roll. I had he spicy dragon which was actually spicy, I loved it! My boyfriend had the crunch and he enjoyed it but I felt like the textures were off. The fish was like smeared in the roll or something so it was mushy. The spicy edamame was really spicy and delicious too! I wouldn't recommend the happy hour tempura mix cause it's 4 pieces for $5 & it looked kind of pathetic on the plate. Bento Box is super underrated based on yelp reviews! I came her after midnight on Friday for a quick bite. It was pretty live and our server was very nice. I would recommend the chicken teriyaki rice bowl and Spicy Cali roll. For the rice bowl, ask for extra teriyaki sauce and sriracha. It really makes it pop. The chicken was well seasoned and the vegetables must have been, too, because they were not bland at all. The spicy cali roll is pretty basic, but hit the spot. Not much to say there. The managers and owners of the establishment, Bella and Phil (if they are really the managers and if those are really their names) were dismissive and rude. Stating that they wouldn't take the drink back because the whiskey was expensive. Bella started interrogating the birthday girl about why she didn't like the drink. Reading the ingredients to her as if that should prove that she should like it. Then she rolled her eyes and abruptly walked away. When I tried to speak to Phil and Bella a few minutes later, Phil told me that the reason she acted that way was because a few weeks ago she got into it with a party of black people and our presence was probably triggering for her. I came to meet my girlfriends here for dinner. Happy hour ended at 7pm on a Friday so it was a good deal. There wasn't a huge selection on the menu, but it was decent. We ordered a variety of items on happy hour and others from the regular menu. Of the items I ordered, the food tasted mediocre. I've had better sushi at other places. The one thing I think stood out for this place was the dollar sake bombs. I can't remember how many rounds we ordered but it was cheap. This usually is my go to place but the one time I didn't eat there and just ran in simply to get something to drink since I had a long drive home and was just really thirsty, they wouldn't accommodate. I stopped by The Bento Box at 1:20 this afternoon hoping to get the AYCE lunch sushi special. The signs on the windows and doors proclaim a special for AYCE before 2pm. I walk inside and say that I wanted the sushi special. The server leads me over to a long table and puts down a napkin and eating utensil while telling me that the special only includes basic sushi rolls. Any "special" rolls must be ordered separately. I ask which rolls exactly are included. Instead of answering me, she waves a hand at the pre-prepared food area and says off-handedly, "Those in there." This was my first time eating there, I did not know what the routine was. Instead of instructing me, she wanders off, leaving me at my table. I looked at a menu to see what other lunch choices there were. Was I supposed to serve myself? I planned to ask for clarification when she returned. So, I waited. It was well past the lunchtime rush, surely she would return shortly. I sat, waiting, reading a little from the book I had with me. No one came by with water or anything. After 10 minutes, still nothing. I looked around, Not all that many other customers were there. I read a little more. Still nothing. Finally, I stood up and walked to the door. The two employees at the front desk were talking, heads down, and didn't even notice me leave. I sure as heck hope that this was an off-experience. Bento box is such a clutch for when you are hangry. I have been here a handful of times and have never had a bad experience. Happy hour: whether you are trying to get a drink or rolls, coming in during either regular happy hour or late night happy hour, you are bound to enjoy what you order at a discounted price. Service: both the servers and hostess are always friendly and attentive. While it might take a bit to get seated or your food, it's worth the wait. Food: there are an overwhelming amount of options on the menu, which for some is awesome but for me can be overwhelming. Just take your time, as there is something for everyone. Hours: they are open until 11:30 most nights, but as long as your seated by around 11, you won't feel rushed to order. Shout out to my host/server last night (the day before Xmas eve). We showed up around 10:45 and it was suuuuuper packed but only like three servers. She ended up telling us sorry as there were a ton of people who called out. So I had put a deposit of 25.00 to reserve for a party of 15 in the private room. We get there and they had us in the main dining set up not in the private room. I was okay with that no problem I didn't complain. Food was great and waitress was great too. At the end when we paid I ask the waitress about my deposit and if it got credited on my bill. Ordered two rounds of sake bombs for 4 people and I ended finding something floating in the drink, twice. One was a lemon pulp (there was no lemon or lime on our table/drinks) and the other was a black lint. The dishes were all cracked, chipped or heavily stained where it's no longer the color white. They need to start investing on new dishes and utensils. Sushi was okay. Parking can be a pain in the rear depending what time you decide to visit. & Good luck with getting reception on your phone. Bento Box during the week - yeah, sure. Bento Box on Friday/Saturday nights - no thank you. I casually go to Bento Box during the week to grab a 1-2 rolls, a sake bomb and call it a day. Super ideal if you're strolling by and want to catch a game. They are good at changing the channels to the game you'd like to watch (being courteous of others around of course). The service is above par during the week. Went this past Saturday night and, as expected, a busy night for Bento Box. It's a prime location and relatively blocks from a solid night scene in Sacramento. With that said, I walked in requesting a table for 6. A 10 minute wait was said, we didn't sit until 25 minutes later. (Quick fix: its okay to tell your customers 30-40 min and if it's 25 min I would have been more pleasant than waiting those additional 15 minutes. Seated, we await for our server. Completely understanding the ambiance and what's considered slammed, we awaiting patiently. The server arrives and asks for rounds of drinks- we were ready to order and so we put our order of rolls in. Decided an additional appetizer so we tracked him down and put an order in. 10 min later the appetizer arrived. 5 min after our table were served their rolls. They were specialty rolls so we assumed ours were next. 20 min later we have yet to receive ours. Yes we got ours thereafter, but our guests felt rude to eat without us. Threw our night off. We addressed it with the manager. I was calm about the situation, my guests weren't. I'll leave it at that. Oh, we did order sake bombs but they are now $1.99. Decided to have an early dinner today at my favorite sushi spot. I haven't dined in since the pandemic started (only to go orders), but things have definitely changed. I was not greeted until I spoke to a staff walking by. We asked if the bar was open, and was told yes and handed out menu/napkins and chopsticks and told to pick a spot. From there it took over 10 mins to be greeted at the bar. Once we received our food, we were told "I'm coming to bring you the check to pay, since I'm going to lunch." So while trying to eat our food, we had to stop and pay. Not to mention the guy next to us was waiting for 20 mins, never greeted until he went to the front and asked for service. I worried that the mixed tempura would be sweaty and soggy, but I'm glad the pieces were still somewhat warm and crispy. The tempura was a combination of greasy and soggy. Nice. The container the sauce was in melted from the heat of the hot tempura and soaked it. So, greasy on the top, soggy on the bottom. I know it's possible to deliver this dish hot, crunchy and greaseless because I got it that way from the Bento on Fairoaks last week. Lastly (and so ironically) the spicy udon noodle dish with beef they sent instead of the veg pan-fried noodles I ordered was delicious. Ordered the Bento Box and the Bento Tuesday special. The girl taking our order was friendly and answered our questions. Order was ready within 20 minutes. The reason for our low rating was: 1. Found a hair in our "salad." 2. The salad wasn't really a salad. Its more like a few pieces of lettuce, 2 pieces of purple cabbage and a few sliced carrot slices. Had to try one Couple blocks south of the convention center we needed a quick bite. Their lunch menu was great- a couple if pages of sushi, a page of bento boxes and a few other dishes. Prices very nice for lunch $9 - 15. The Korean BBQ chicken bento box was great. Chicken extra crunchy with a sticky BBQ sauce and it was piping hot. Even the rice was quite hot. My friend had the noodle bowl that was still steaming when it hit the table- yummy for the tummy and a facial at the same time. Interior nice and bright from big full windows that wrap around a good portion of the restaurant. Very clean. And great prompt service. Next time when I'm not in a hurry I will have to try the sushi. read more
