COVID-19 update: like many local restaurants, Beyond Bread is open for takeout during the current crisis. As best as I can tell, everything on the menu is available, including daily specials, drinks, loaves of bread, and growlers filled with beer and of course, their usual selection of sandwiches, salads, and soups. The website offers 10% off for online orders, but I could not get the online order portion of the website to display. Staff reported that other customers have reported online ordering as hit or miss. My last two phone orders have worked just fine -- quick, easy, and no mistakes. The food itself has been prepared with the same care as before. Bread is your friend. Particularly fond of the huge loaves of pretzel bread. Have never had anything here that wasn't scrumptious. The kids can always find something they want to eat as can I. I'd like to add on to another awful experience I've had. Managers are great but staff needs to be retrained or something. Worst customer experience ever. First off no welcome from the guy who "helped" me. Then his first comment to me is "this is the most complicated order I've ever seen." The way he approached me and said the comment was hurtful and rude. I thought it was extremely disrespectful. I have food allergies and I didn't think that would be such an inconvenience for this place. Not only was that bad but I left and my order was so wrong, it made no sense with what I had ordered. I ordered the Carmela's cap and there were two things on the sandwich. There were no tomatoes, no peppers, no onion, nothing. This nice mix of Starbucks and Panera is a busy and popular place on a busy major thoroughfare that shares a strip mall with a large used book store, an upscale resale furniture store, and various small retailers. The fresh baked bread is very tasty and affordable, which has kept me coming back for orders of morning toast, paired with a coffee with cream. The product is great, as is the location, but I sense they don't treat their staff very well. Most of my interactions have been cursory exercises in exerting the least effort possible. Order delivery is prompt but, once again, impersonal. Twice in less than a week, my toast arrived unbuttered; the second time, when I asked upon delivery, the person said outright that it was buttered and, if I wanted more, I needed to ask for it at the counter. Of course, it wasn't buttered and I immediately had to get up to ask for it. The place is popular and I doubt this review will have any impact. But either the wait staff needs to be treated better, they need to improve their attitude, or I'm going to start going elsewhere. read more

Used to enjoy coming to this location but every time I've gone lately, the place has been very dirty. Went this past Sunday afternoon around five. Very light crowd so ordering and getting a table was no issue but EVERY table was dirty and the floor looked like it hadn't been swept since they opened. And this with half the employees wandering around on their phones, most of which looking like they didn't want to be there at all to begin with. It made me question the quality and cleanliness of the kitchen if the entire sitting area looked like a kindergarten class had stopped by for lunch. I love this place. I went to college in tucson and lived for a couple years after but not anymore. I come to tucson a couple times a year to see friends and I always ensure I make a stop here. This is an amazing local place and the food is amazing. They fresh bake their bread daily and their desserts. I have never had a bad item here. Beyond Bread is my new favorite go to here in Tucson. I moved to the area in April 2020 and its now a regular stop for us; we visit at least 2 (maybe 3!) times a week! I have never had a bad experience or meal here. Everything I've ordered has been fantastic. From sandwiches (rex's revenge and the shawarma are excellent!), to soups (chili corn chowder!), to drinks (almond milk latte with strong espresso) to the pastries. OH THE PASTRIES!!! The sandwiches here are so good. I'm a creature of habit so I always get the same thing, Avi Avocado with sourdough bread. It's turkey, lettuce, sprouts, and cucumber mayo. It comes on ciabatta bread but that bread is too hard for me to bite down on, so I substitute it for sourdough. I always get a side soup or side salad both really good for only a dollar. Lunchtime and weekend mornings are always the busiest, but they get you in and out fairly quickly. Baby carrots as a side? *thumbs up There's a lot going on, and everything I've ever had has actually tasted quite good. Your typical meal is in the 10-15 dollar range, more if you bring home a loaf of bread or a pie or get some coffee, as they've got a full coffee shop in there as well. However, I'm not entirely sure on the calories. Their sandwiches range from 800 to around 1400 calories, and I'm confused as to how they fit that many calories into their sandwiches. Despite the menu and appearance, Beyond Bread is *not* diet food. You can get sandwiches half the calories elsewhere... although yes, I'd definitely agree that Beyond Bread is twice as good. It's just tricky to squeeze this place in if you're on a diet. I'd also like to throw in a minor complaint about how they layer their sandwiches shown in the picture, but it's all nitpicky. Awesome sandwich shop! All the bread is freshly made which makes it better. Love the Avi's Avo and Gordo's Gorgonzola. (Though I've yet to have a sandwich I don't like there.) They're also serving breakfast these days which is also yummy and of course their baked goods are on point (try the cinnamon rolls!) I go there for lunch a lot, just be warned that it gets super busy from like 11:30-1:30 where it's hard to find a place to sit and takes longer than normal, but definitely worth it. read more

The PTA bread NOT good. The inside of pita is cooked but the outside is coated heavily in Raw semolina flour. Very awful taste in my mouth. I found out afterwards that I could have changed to any other bread like whole wheat or sour dough. Apparently the pita are dusted in the flour so they don't stick but it's still raw awful taste to eat. It's my favorite place for a sandwich and some pastries. We always get the Roger's roast. The pretzel bread with the real roast beef and the horseradish, it's perfection. We tried the Enzo Ending and Tito's Torta with their house kettle chips, iced latte and Barrio Mocha Java beer. Both sandwiches were very good, flavorful and filling. Only complaint I have about the Enzo is I'd want to try it hot. It comes cold, was perfectly edible and tasty but I believe it would be better hot. The coffee and beer was a good addition to our lunch. To go we got a twist pretzel and chocolate eclair. The pretzel was hard on the outside but fluffy inside. Salt gave it a good taste, would be better warm. The eclair was huge but wasn't that good. Chocolate was bitter and cream was bland inside. But its still the same delicious taste to me. How it works: Grab a menu from the stand by the front door. When you're ready walk up to one of the cashier and order. They will give you a sign to place at your table. They will bring out your food for you and clean up your table after you. I come here honestly just for their sandwiches. Some sandwiches have the option of half or full, ranging from $5-9. Honestly, half a sandwich gets me to content (with the side) and full is good for those starving days. They give a fair amount of meat and toppings. You also have the option of changing the bread if you would like. They used to do it for free (which I wish they still did) but now if you'd like to change the type of bread its a $1 fee. They also serve mac and cheese, salads, soups. Take advantage of the daily specials too. I had to head back to Phoenix early in the morning and I am happy to say that my friends rallied despite their hangovers and we all came here for an early breakfast.
