How didn't I know about this place before? I definitely think this Peruvian restaurant is better than their neighbor and competitor riko pio. They have a nice wine selection and great Peruvian staples. My bf had the churrasco and i had the lomo saltado and both dishes were delicious and perfectly executed. My waiter also couldn't be any more helpful. And the green sauce is BOMB.COM. i think this will have to be my new go to spot! read more

I stumbled upon this Peruvian restaurant on a Saturday night for dinner. Couldn't have been more pleased with the food and service. The staff was very courteous and the food was delicious. I tried chiritos a la chalaca, very fresh. The aguadito did not disappoint as well the pesto pasta. It reminded me how my grandma used to make pesto for me. Great little Sunnyside Gem! From the music in the background, to the service and most importantly the food. We ordered the special mussels in garlic wine sauce which were absolutely devine! Not your typical mussels in white wine sauce. For entrees; the Arroz con Pollo and the Lenguado Punta Sal. While you can never go wrong with the Arroz con Pollo, the Lenguado was absolutely amazing with its Peruvian pepper sauce perfectly sautéed veggies served on the side.. not too el dente not to overcooked. One of the best meals I have had in Sunnyside, and in this international food mecca that is high praise. I had Escabeche de Pescado (stew fish with onions and black olives). Good quality fish in a delicious sauce and perfectly-cooked onions. The avocado salad was a nice mix of fresh greens with onion and avocado. And very spicy ahi accompanied by good bread. I don't ordinarily do reviews like this but I feel the situation warranted it. I was in the Sunnyside neighborhood around 10:35 and feeling a bit hungry I was happy when I spotted this Los Pollos restaurant with an 'Open' sign. So I went in and after about a minute one of the employees came out and after asking someone in the back she told me the restaurant opens at 11. I was a bit annoyed because then they should have turned the sign around for closed. Anyway I came back around 11:03 and literally stood there for a minute before I walked out since no one came out. I even coughed so that the employees knew someone was inside. To me this is a sign that customers weren't welcome and I wouldn't eat there no matter how good the food might be. Let's start by saying that as a born and raised Peruvian I am very picky when it comes to Peruvian food. Usually the food here is on point but that is not the issue for me this time. I recently placed an order with them online directly from their website and after receiving confirmation email I waited for almost 1 hour ( I figured its the weekend and its likely very busy). However, being that it took so long I gave them a direct call and come to find out they never got my order (yet I got a confirmation email). The lady who answered the phone said that it wasn't showing up in their system and told me she was going to check with the owner and abruptly hung up on me. I gave her 10 min to figure out what the issue was but since I didn't hear back I proceeded to called them back. This time she put me to speak to another guy who repeatedly said "I don't know" and didn't offer any solution when I had been waiting for over 1 hour and my credit card was already charged. He claimed that neither the owner or manager were there so there was nothing he could do to help me. I don't understand how is a business running with no management to deal with situations like these. His customer service skills were terrible and irritating which prompt me to write this review. As much as I like the food there, this bad experience makes me not want to eat from this place again. Now I'm left to deal with my bank to get my money back for an order I never got. So upsetting and inconvenient. read more

I'm SHOCKED at the low reviews.. I came here last Friday and boy oh boy was this place mind blowing. The waitress was so sweet, her name was Daisy. She wasn't too pushy nor rude, she was really really nice and helpful when needed. The food was great, I ordered roasted chicken with yellow rice and frijoles along with platano maduro. A glass of sangria, and good company, what else can a girl ask for? Anyways, AMAZING. I was stuffed like a turkey and at the end of the night, I had no complaints. I have to wholeheartedly disagree with Jeff... I thought the chicken here was dry and underwhelming. And there's no whiff of delicious rotisserie goodness that WHAMS you in the face as you walk in. For all I know, they could be outsourcing their chicken. Blasphemy! The atmosphere is drearier and not as lively as PPR's. I didn't try the ceviche, but the other dishes we had were subpar. I'm surprised by the low reviews here. When the in-laws are in town, this is one of our favorite places to go to. You kind of HAVE to compare this place to Pio Pio, which is right up the block. They both pretty much serve the same Peruvian style dishes, but Pio Pio tends to have lines around the block whereas this place is much more quiet and offers seating for much larger parties. I personally think if people knew about Los Pollos, they wouldn't bother waiting so long for a seat at Pio Pio. Chicken is succulent, jalea is huge, and everything tastes very fresh. It is comparable in quality to Pio Pio, with the added benefit of outdoor seating! read more

The food had no salt and seasonings at all. When we let the server know, he said it's because they put less salt. I couldn't eat it there because of the taste. I brought it home and tried to fix it. Hidden gem in the heart of Queens... another Peruvian option other than Pio Pio... love this spot!!

I thought this place was great and would be better with a couple adjustments. First, they actually have a daily menu, and the portions came the same (ie, huge) as they would have at a menu restaurant in Lima. Second, carapulcra was involved (places on Northern Boulevard only have it on the weekends it at all). The canchita was awesome, and the ají was slamming, even if it was green. I had the menu choice of aguadito de pollo + ají de gallina. My friend had the carapulcra, which came with arroz blanco and fried red onions and a bit of salad as expected. The aguadito was .... I'm tempted to say better than I've had in Lima.... absolutely out of this world. Dense, green, flavorful, balanced. Every other dish, unfortunately, was over-salted. This is sad, because I could tell that the flavors were there and that the food would have been quite good had they (or she - the chef/cook/owner) literally not added as much salt. My beloved carapulcra (even if salt content were lowered) could have been better - I like it with a hint of cloves and canela and such in addition to the standard garlic, ají panca, i guess cumin and whatever else goes into it .... but then, again, the way she made it is kind of typical of what you would get if you ordered it at a menu restuarant in Lima, IMH experience. Finally, the atmosphere/ decor was lovely. I give them kudos for putting a suggestive bottle of wine on each table, and will probably have a glass the next time I go - which I most definitely will, when I am in the mood for Lima menu-restaurant food and prices. read more

There are a few things this place does incredibly right, and is definitely worth a shot if you're in the neighborhood: -Very good and very reasonably priced sangria! -Best "green sauce" of all Peruvian chicken restaurants in the area. -Very fresh ingredients in all seafood dishes It is unfair to compare Los Pollos to Pio Pio Riko as they're doing different things, and this is a slightly higher price point. I recently had one of the most pleasant dining experiences of my life at this restaurant. Food, atmosphere, service--all excellent. Case in point: I walked into the place and everyone--waiter, customers, bartender--said hi to me. A guy at the table nearby stood to shake my hand. Little things like that go a long way. When you sit down they bring out a bowl of toasted corn kernels and plantain chips, which are a fun alternative to bread and butter and very tasty. I ordered a sangria (SO TASTY, 6 dollars and totally worth it, lots of apple and orange floating in it) and the chicken and dried potato stew. The stew was excellent, it came with a refreshing onion salad and a big pile of steamed rice. I was worried the chicken might be dry little cubes of breast, but they were two juicy thighs instead, my favorite part of the chicken. The meal also came with a spicy green sauce on the side that was phenomenal and I ended up putting on everything. They let me sit there as long as I wanted (I read and write a lot in restaurants, so this was a big plus). I sat there for about 2 and a half hours, and the guy at the table next to me bought me another sangria to "celebrate good times" haha. When I finally asked for the check, the waiter had it in three seconds, ready to go. Fantastic waiter all around, very attentive, very patient. When it arrived I was not provided a receipt and instead of giving me avacado I was given fried sweet bananas. If you don't have avacado a courtesy call would have been more helpful instead of simply putting something else in the bag. Food Quality: bland is the best description. The chicken soup should be called cilantro soup. I had no chicken and it was green. Mind you the "side" of white rice was bigger than the actual soup. The tostones were soggy and flavorless. Unbelievable experience here! From the food to the service, this is a gem in Sunnyside. Everything was fresh. Large portions and reasonable prices. I can't believe I haven't ordered for delivery from here yet. I got causa for an appetizer. The flavor was rich and there was no doubt that everything was prepared that same day. My husband ordered the skirt steak which was cooked to perfection and came with a pregnant side plate full of rice, beans and plantains. I ordered pollo saltado. The best I've ever had.
