When a menu boasts its gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options, you might assume they are capable of handling lots of food allergies, right? Nope. I am allergic to dairy, wheat, and peanuts. When I told this to my waitress, she literally said "Wheat...am I like, retarded or is that gluten?" Then I asked about many of their GF options and whether they could also be made dairy free. I was told no to all of them, including the gluten free pasta. When I tried to get a burger, which you can take the dairy off of and the menu said could be gluten free, the waitress came back and said the only gluten free bun had milk in it. I finally gave up and ordered a steak because it seemed impossible to screw up. It was fine, but not at all exciting. My dining companions were not overly impressed with their food either. So basically if you have any combination of food restrictions, I wouldn't recommend coming here. Even with all the GF menu options, there was only one cider on the menu and no GF beers. Visiting Bistro781 for the first time was epic. Staff was very friendly and inviting. My friend and I stopped there for one drink and ended up staying to close the bar. Myranda, Emily, Arianna, and Amy were all very hospitable. I will definitely return just because of them! I've been for dinner and for brunch and both visits were delicious. The pork belly hash on the brunch menu is divine and I absolutely love cauliflower tacos on the dinner menu. I love that the restaurant takes gluten allergies seriously and has separate equipment and can make many of the options gluten free. I've always made a reservation as the restaurant is always crowded. The bar serves a variety of drinks and they've always come out strong and well made. My biggest issue going out is never being able to find anything to eat beyond fries. Their vegan menu has a good variety of foods and I've not been disappointed by any of them. Our first time for brunch. It was probably a 4 star experience but we've been for dinner and it was much better. The crab cakes were super salty and hard to eat (a little pricey too to leave most of it on the plate) but everything else was great. The drinks are very tasty as well. It was somewhat busy when we came in for lunch, but we were seated immediately. The restaurant itself is very modern and sleek - great decor and lots of tables and room. After we were seated, our server gave us our menus to take a look through. One of the biggest selling points for Bistro781 (imo) is the fact that they are very, very good about dietary restrictions and allergies. My co-worker has pretty much every allergy known to man (gluten free, can't have nuts, etc.) and Bistro781 is the only place in the area that she can trust to eat at. Pretty crazy! When we went, I got the eggs benedict with crab cakes. She got the tuna poke. Our orders came out in a pretty timely manner and the food was DELICIOUS. I really want to try my co-worker's order next time. It kind of reminded me of a deconstructed sushi roll, which is pretty cool. My eggs benedict was phenomenal and so, so filling. Everyone we spoke with here was super friendly and very professional. They were more than happy to adjust orders to any allergies or requests we had and answered any questions we asked. Disappointed, won't be back. My teacher colleagues and I have been to Bistro several times, for their first Friday of the month teacher events as well as lots of other times. Even though we like the food and drinks, they have a weird repetitive habit of kicking us out by saying they have reservations for the table. This has happened at least 3 times now even though we are actively getting drinks and apps the whole time. One time we even had a few teachers who were planning to order dinner as well. While it's possible we might have been a little loud and energetic, the place has a sports bar/pub vibe where that is usually the norm. Oh well, message received. We went to this Bistro on Xmass - it was the ONLY business besides convenience stores open that evening on Moody. So kudos for that. They had a somewhat limited food menu probably due to Pandemic. I had the feeling of entering a post Apocalypse saloon as several people waited by the empty host stand for about five minutes until a hostess / server speed walked towards us, obviously doing something in the kitchen. Short staffing doesn't make a better restaurant experience BTW, it causes unnecessary wait time even though she was extremely personable and efficient - just a pleasant person to interact with and clearly very hardworking & cared abt good customer service (which can be an utter rarity nowadays.) So I ordered a pilsner style beer which was ice cold an excellent. My name had spoken by a group of loud males at the far end of the bar as I entered the Bistro, further adding to the lawless feel that night or post apocalypse vibe. They mentioned Yoga ostensibly and at length very loudly, and funnily enough I'd just sent an email abt Yoga to some one. Odd coincidence. ( My life is full of odd coincidences .) They seemed 2 have no drinks in front of them so I was confused by their rowdiness and avoided eye contact studiously. The food offerings were exactly two or three appetizers, plus two entrees, and about 3 available desserts. Despite this business was steady and picking up as night wore on. The "roasted salmon filet with wild rice, tomato confit, asparagus or green beans, and wild mushrooms with a French sauce for $26.00 USD " arrived as a salmon crab stuffed roulade with a lovely square of potatoes dauphinoise, and nicely roasted asparagus spears with a great butter, cream, and herb sauce. Just a really excellent sauce. This was billed to me @ $29.00 USD & I was going to point out as we paid that I'd ordered a different dish for less $ and now was being charged nearly $40 bucks for something I hadn't ordered. Stuff like that really gets my goat and shows a lack of appreciation to patrons and staff, lack of communication from BOH to FOH, from FOH to customers, and is deceptive pricing as well. Since the entree I was sent was pretty excellent ( nice job Chef even tho' I know the quality of that crabmeat intimately and Thank God I have no shellfish allergy - that would've been a bad scene !) So I really had the impression of Pandemic dining where literally anything could happen, and on dimly light rainy Xmass night the sense of surviving a shipwreck or similar was palpable. However, I was still admiring the chops of whoever prepped and executed the entree with that sauce and laughing up my sleeve @ the audacity of serving something completely different than was written on the menu as the salmon entree. Since I love potatoes dauphinoise and this was a good example of one I was mollified. My twin looked uneasily and somewhat owlishly at me when I expressed dismay @ the $ increase and wearily took a sip of her ( excellent, well chilled and portioned white wine that was anticipated by the friendly server the minute she walked in. ) I paused. It was Xmass. There was a pandemic. I looked at my mostly empty plate and down @ my cell phone where some one had been flirting with me via auto spell by inserting the numbers 10 into a few sentences that had no numbers or indeed need for them. I was not a 10 that evening but was flattered just the same. I looked over to my right and perused a group of males who were more to my liking, seeming to be Marine veterans, who all spoke and behaved at appropriate volume and tenor and who were discreetly checking me out but not intimidating me, except for the phone hacking, if that was indeed them. They exuded a quiet intelligence. Who knew tho' ? It could've been the other Marine. I looked 2 my left. A young man with his friends gazed back @ me somewhat soberly, though they had all ordered cocktails, as if 2 say, "I know you well even though you don't know me from Adam. " I covered my mouth with my mask as I exited after leaving a nice tip in cash. So, I'll probably return to this Bistro. I look forward 2 being served a dish completely different than the one I ordered. read more

Excellent brunch today. I'm vegan and there are at least seven or eight things to choose from on their vegan menu. Today I tried the zucchini rancheros and it was delicious. They also have a warm Buddha bowl that is amazing. The vegan French toast is very good and the quinoa burger is good but not great. Also they have a quinoa burger on their regular menu that is NOT vegan so be sure to specify if you go. While dinner can be on the expensive side here, breakfast/brunch is definitely reasonable. Highly recommend. But you will want to call ahead and make a reservation as it is hard to get in otherwise. Outside seating on Moody Street is also lovely although today we sat at the bar since it was raining. read more

Love this place! Just enjoyed the daily special of tuna tacos and sautéed tiny clams with a lobster cognac sauce. SO YUMMY-we asked for more bread just to dip in the leftover sauce. Also enjoyed the spinach stuffed chicken fricassee for an entree. The wine-don't get me started! The selection is on point and the service is awesome. I had a warm bowl which I loved and I'm eating my mother-in-law's left over quinoa burger for lunch today. I've been here twice in the past week.; with my family on the Saturday before Mother's Day and this evening for dinner. Both times the food was outstanding and the service was better than good at the Saturday brunch and excellent this evening. Thank you Elsa. At my the brunch, I really enjoyed the Eggs Benedict with tomatoes and spinach. The eggs were perfectly done, which you don't always find. Even without the potatoes, it was a very filling brunch. Dinner exceeded my expectations. My friend and I split the mushroom gnocchi, which was amazing. I honestly could have eaten the whole appetizer and another for dinner. I might not have been able to walk out without undoing the waist of my pants, but the gnocchi was that good. My friend had shrimp, which he loved and I had the street corn bowl, another item I could've eaten two of if I could increase the size of my stomach. I'd also recommend the Sugar Cookie martini. I play hard to get... And by that I mean it's hard to get five stars from me. This new hot spot has it all including delicious food, a trendy atmosphere, and wonderful service. We chose Bistro 781 for our Girl's Brunch today and certainly were not disappointed. Can we talk about the "Build Your Own Bloody Mary" menu? I don't even drink Bloody Mary's, but this concept is pretty impressive. Each place setting is supplied with a small pencil and a pad of paper for choosing and circling add-ons for your drink. My friends indulged in Bloody Marys including stuffed olives, pepperoni pizza crostini, and even strips of bacon. "It's like a little snack before the meal" one of my friends said in reference to the garnishes atop her drink. I opted for my brunch favorite, the mimosa, which was very light on the orange juice with the perfect pour of champagne. The brunch menu has a lot of flexibility consisting of build-your-own omelets and eggs reflecting your style by choosing from a list of sides. There are a variety of breakfast sandwiches, flatbreads, and the amazing Eggs Benedict. This was my choice today and it was delish! This meal has the option to "go Irish" with added corn beef hash. Home fries, perfectly cooked home fries I must add, are served on the side. My friends enjoyed the Smoked Salmon sandwiches and the Morning Staple sandwich -everyone was commenting on how good their food was. This restaurant serves dinner as well. Our server, Marissa, was very friendly and attentive. We interacted with other servers as well who had assisted with bringing our meals to the table. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. I loved the Sunday brunch. (thank you Lindsay M. For recommending it). My wife and I each had a breakfast pizza. Mine was delicious. First, mine was gluten free, which I need. And the eggs, avocado and cheese are in the right proportion. What I want to mention is that the gluten-free dough was tasty, which is rare. I won't lie...I was meeting a friend on Moody St. this morning with the intent to have brunch at In a Pickle, but, there was over an hour wait (in the rain). So I did what any avid Yelper would do, and turned to Yelp to look for restaurants in the area that had also offered brunch. Backstory: I had dinner at Bistro 781 with a friend a few weeks ago and was impressed by their food. I suggested we try their brunch based off my last experience and, of course, their Yelp reviews! We walked in, and were seated immediately. I will give the Readers Digest version for the rest of the experience: Brunch options: So many! From basic eggs to high end eggs benedict. Lots of options. Service: Fast and efficient, the only suggestion I would make is, the staff not recommend the guest to over order. I understand it's my decision in the end, but often times people rely on the suggestions of the staff if they're new to the establishment. I asked about the size of the pancakes because, they come as 1, 3 stack or 5 stack (not sure why you can't get two?). I was going for one and it was recommended to go with three as they were described as being big, but, you at least need two. Prices: Reasonable! Particularly since they make all of their breads fresh! Last time I was here I got the burger which; you have the option to have a homemade English muffin as the "bun". Which I did, and, incredible!! Quality: The pancakes were delicious, the sausage, incredible, and the vanilla bean butter paired with the "real" syrup ($3 additional charge) literally put the pancake over the top. However, I did end up with two pancakes in a take out container to take home (who eats leftover pancakes)?? Also, I ordered orange juice, which you could tell in the first sip freshly squeezed. Cons: You can't order two pancakes. One is actually enough, but, if you're a little more hungry than usual, two would be great. They are big. Also, they charge you $2 for "add ins" for pancakes, i.e.: chocolate chips, blueberries, etc. Not a deal breaker, I've just never heard of that before. Atmosphere: Modern, spacious, dark interior, not too bright and comfortable. All in all I would recommend Bistro 781 for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. I would also go back. The food and drinks were amazing! I had a seasonal cider cocktail and the duck alfredo entree. The plate came out piping hot and the mixture of the rich duck, creamy cheese, and homemade noodles was the perfect meal for a freezing winter night. The wait staff was attentive and was able to give recommendations off the menu. There are two seating areas, one near the bar with a view of the TV screens (you could also sit at the bar for this), and another area towards the back that is probably quieter. read more

I have to say, it took me longer than expected to finally make it in here to try their menu, but I am SO glad I did; it left me far from disappointed! On my first visit, I came with a friend for a few drinks. The bartenders and front staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, and also made an AMAZING choco-espresso-mint martini that has become a favorite when I come here. On my second visit, I opted for the BBQ pulled pork flatbread. This was absolutely delicious. The pork was tender and held its own flavor up against the BBQ sauce. The sauce was a flavorful combination of sweet and smokey, which delicately glazed the flatbread without drenching it and making it soggy. On my third visit (and this is where it gets REALLY good) I ordered the chicken waffles with jalapeño maple syrup and the steak bomb egg rolls. The chicken waffles NEED to be added as a staple item to the menu. These waffles were infused with so much flavor, it had my tastebuds dancing. From the crispy exterior of the waffle, to its fluffy, chicken-filled inside, doused in a sweet and spicy jalapeño syrup, it was perfect from start to finish (not that it lasted long on my plate, haha). The syrup offered a sweet zing with pleasantly spicy kick at the end. The steak bomb egg rolls were also delicious, and not greasy like a lot of egg rolls can be. I rarely order different menu items from the same place because I can be a bit of a bore and like what I like, but I can honestly say, the menu here has yet to disappoint me. Nice Friday night dinner with the family. Two kids under 2, they brought us booster seats. The street was closed off and we ate outside. Good people watching location. Restaurant was busy and the food took some time (as expected) I had the Carne asada with grilled avocado and risotto. The risotto had corn in it, kinda through me off. Apparently this place is loved by vegans. I can see why, they don't over cook the veggies and the plate presentation is good. I would go back. Definitely glad I made a reservation.
